Handball Tour ends

THE Arena 1000 Playas de Orihuela handball tournament came to an end on Sunday, July 23. It was held at Playa Cala Bosque in La Zenia. The tournament was the third and last scoring event of the season, before the Spanish Championships in Almeria on Saturday, July 29. The championships will mark the close of the Arena Handball Tour 2023, organised by the Royal Spanish Handball Federation. It was a hectic weekend, which brought together 2,200 athletes from 151 different teams and in which nearly 300 games were played. “The tournament has been a resounding success of participation, both by athletes, as well as by fans and sponsors. It has been a fantastic weekend,” said José Vegara, mayor of Orihuela.
The council has welcomed the 16 volunteers into the operation, who will provide the service throughout the summer. They will patrol on foot, on bicycles, assist at firstaid tents and also patrol the water with a new boat. The volunteers will work until September together with Local Police officers of Alicante, from 10am to 6pm, and actively participate in the summer preventive programme organised by the city council on its five Alicante beaches, which are Postiguet, Albufereta/Almadraba, Saladar/Urbanova, San Juan and Tabarca, with the aim of offering better service and protection on beaches to visitors of the Alicante coast.
