coastal regression on its website. The neighbourhood association has expressed its concerns to the Ministry of Ecological Transition, along with other residential or ganisations on the Spanish coast. In the report published, the neighbourhood association pointed out a series of incomplete projects on the urbanisa tions of Orihuela Costa. The concerned representatives demanded the repair of the road on Avenida de las Adelfas as it passes the Nacimiento River, the replacement of the pavements and a study and implementation of measures for the retention of sand on the beaches.

Social housing upkeep

THE Alicante Housing Board of Trustees has awarded the conservation and maintenance contract for 750 social homes to Elecnor Servicios y Proyectos SAU, with an investment of €720,071, divided into two parts for the next two years, which will then be extendable for another year.

The Board currently has 27 residential buildings and garages in the Casco Antiguo and San Antón area, seven residential buildings and garages in the neighbourhoods of San Blas, Campoamor and Zona Norte, 189 homes scattered throughout different areas of the city, and two office buildings. The total number of rental homes managed by the Board amounts to 750.

The contract has been divided into two lots according to geographical criteria, lot 1 has a budget of €309,760 and lot 2 has a budget of €410,311.

Alicante bars suffer heat

THE extreme heat in Alicante City centre saw bars and restaurants lose up to half of their income, as customers decided to avoid sitting in the blazing sun.

Javier Galdeano, president of the Association of Leisure and Restoration Venues of Alicante (ALROA), warned of the situation in which many venues found themselves. “This excessive heat wave is destroying life on the terrace.”

For patrons who decided to venture inside restaurants instead, the cost to the bars and restaurants was high, as air conditioning units had to be constantly used in order to keep interior spaces comfortable. With some bars not having air conditioning units, the heat made sitting inside unbearable, leaving proprietors with barely any customers.

Installing a unit in a short amount of time did not seem to be a solution for many, as air conditioning installation companies are experiencing extremely high demands for their service.
