LA VEGA BAJA continues to lead the way in construction for the entire province of Alicante. According to data collected by the Official College of Surveyors, Technical Architects and Building Engineers, the region is the one that shows the most progress.

In the second quarter of the year, the figures represented 47 per cent of the total new builds in the province. A total of 1,404 new homes were registered with the official college. This number represents a 58 per cent improvement on the first quarter of the year, which was already a very positive figure. With this figure, the Vega Baja is at new home levels higher than those prior to the pandemic situation.

Although the city with the most new builds was Alicante (421 homes in this quarter), many more towns in the region registered a high number of new builds. These included Torrevieja (407), San Miguel de Salinas (275), Denia (260), Guardamar del Segura (204), Muchamiel (170) and Orihuela (168).

A COMPANY in Elche has been selected to become one of 20 to participate in an international programme to promote food tech. Oscillum, located on the science park of the Miguel Hernández University (PCUMH) in Elche, have developed a smart and compostable food label.

The label Oscillum that has developed slowly changes colour from the moment it is applied, indicating its freshness.

KM Zero Venturing, who mentor startup programmes, will develop a personalised plan for the scaling and growth of Oscillum.

The programme received more than 200 applications from 22, and aims to support startups that are developing solutions to make the food chain more resilient. The programme covers different areas of work, from internationalisation to commercial and brand development, industrialisation and legal and financial advice.

In addition, Oscillum will be able to collaborate with corporate partners such as Makro and Mahou San Miguel to test their product, carry out proof of concept, review their business model and share knowledge with a ‘winwin’ approach.
