MARBELLA is stepping up its efforts to support local residents with mental health conditions as it signs a new partnership with the Costa del Sol Association of Family Members and People with Mental Illness (Afesol).

The city signed a monumental agreement with Afesol on Friday, July 21, pledging to provide €20,000 to help the more than 200 people served by Afesol. The mayor of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz, praised Afesol’s commitment to supporting the vulnerable and assured that such support will continue throughout her term.

The funds aim to provide more comprehensive support to Afesol service users and their families. Muñoz signed the agreement with Afesol’s president, Concep ción Cuevas, and Councillor Isabel Cintado.

The mayor highlighted the need to address the sharp rise in mental health issues, especially among young people, highlighting plans to create a centre to cater to their needs within the expanded Hospital Costa del Sol.
