IN a celebration of selflessness and community spirit, La Cala Lions came together to express their heartfelt appreciation for the unsung heroes behind their charity shops.

The event, held at the Times Bar in La Cala last week, was a memorable afternoon of celebration and social fun. Despite the summer heat, nearly 50 people enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch, served with a side of excellent entertainment from honorary Lion, John Sharples.

Shop manager Dave Greenwood took to the stage to thank the volunteers whose tireless efforts have led to remarkable sales for the shops. The shelves of the Charity shops on Calle Torremolinos, in La Cala, are a treasure trove for unique finds.

Lions President, Brenda Meredith, was delighted to present awards to nine exceptional volunteers who have devoted more than five years to the cause.

The Melvin Jones awards, named after Lions International’s visionary founder, went to David Kay, Fiona

Mackie, Bego ň a Navarro, Svetlana Nijboer, Jana Stanford, Shirley Taylor, Jana ThorpeMason, Elizabeth Winspear, and Pauline Zac.

Over the last 25 years, the La Cala de Mijas Lions have touched countless lives, raising over €1.3 million for charity.
