THE Almeria Fair would not be the same without the traditional concert by the City of Almería Orchestra (OCAL).

This year it will be held on August 25, at 10:00.PM in the Plaza de la Constitucion.

The Orchestra will delight with pieces by great composers such as Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Rossini, Verdi, Bizet, Giménez and Sorozábal, among others.

OCAL will be directed with the experience and talent of Michael Thomas, an international benchmark, who is considered to be one of the most outstanding artists of his generation.

Michael is a native of Middlesbrough, UK, and began playing the violin at the age of nine. Aged eleven he became the youngest member to date of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.

ALMERIA City Council will be hosting a workshops for beach environmental awareness for children and youths during the month of August, with workshops coordinated by the Rescue and First Aid services.

Activities and workshops for up to 30 attendees will take place on Tuesday, August 15, starting at 10:00 am, on Cabo de Gata beach.

Activities include basic life support and first aid with a workshop called “Lifeguard for a Day”, teaching children what life ­ doba Orchestra, Musikene, RTVE Orchestra, Izmir State Orchestra and the Ostia Chamber Orchestra, etc.

Since 2000 Michael has been the artistic director of the Orquesta Joven de Andalucía (OJA), with which he has organized and conducted tours through Portugal, Great Britain, France, Italy...
