SEAFOOD tourism otherwise known as pescatourism is set to increase its turnover this summer as projects to turn tourists into fishermen for a day are growing at a "doubledigit" rate on the coasts.
The digital booking platform, Pescaturismo, which brings together businesses throughout the country dedicated to offering trips on board or other activities with fishermen or shellfish gatherers, has registered a 10 per cent increase in visitors and turnover in 2023, according to its CEO, Pepe Martínez.

Fish tourism consists of enrolling tourists who adapt to the outings of the fishing fleet and marine tourism covers activities, routes or tastings that are more tailored to the visitor.
They in turn offer a source of extra income for the fishermen and in this line of diversification, there are possibilities of financing with European Union funds.
The president of the National Federation of Fishermen's Guilds, Basilio Otero, confirmed that this type of tourism can contribute to bringing the sea closer to the people.
