Cool & Quality Cuisine at Coto Restaurante ADVERTISING FEATURE COTO Restaurante is a luxury dining experience, offering a specialised menu that consists of international cuisine of great elaboration. It is located on the winding Ronda road, between the two entrances to La Zagaleta and opposite El Madroñal. The restaurant not only serves its diners delicious and decadent dishes, but it also boasts breathtaking views over the Andalucian countryside and right out to the Mediterranean Sea. The history of the building dates back to 1978, when it was owned by a Spanish family who ran it as ‘El Coto Restaurante’ for many years. However, when Clive Rogers, who is the Head Chef and Owner, purchased the property, he had a bigger and much deeper rooted plan. Clive states that the aim of the project was to: “connect the natural Andalucian landscape with the interior of the restaurant, blending in with nature but with prominent architecture without being an eyesore.” To do just this, he collaborated with a local architect Juan Salvador Shvartzberg, and spent the next four years planning, designing and obtaining the various permits and licences necessary to carry out the works. The result is a striking but natural architectural masterpiece, that now hosts the meals and memories of Coto Restaurante. The entire façade of the restaurant is made up of floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors, ensuring plenty of natural light inside and the feeling of being outside even when
inside. This unique interior design makes the dining experience much more than just consuming a meal, it is a luxury, a drawn out pleasure, much like the Spanish style of dinner itself. Coto specialises in succulent cuts of meat, fresh fish, and of course its signature cocktails, but can also cater for each person’s individual wish. Euro Weekly News spoke to the man himself, Clive Rogers, who found it difficult to answer the question of ‘what is your favourite dish’. Clive responded that “it’s a tough one, because I put all my favourite meals
on the menu, I will have to say all of it!” Coto Restaurante is also available for events, and the team is flexible with each particular client’s needs and desires for their special occasion. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, Coto is offering a special seven-course menu which will be available from 6pm to 11pm on Wednesday, February 14. As a romantic musical backdrop to this dinner of love, the wonderful vocalist and guitarist duo Eva and Raul will be performing live. The cost is €70 per person and places are booking up fast so call +34 951 744 777 to avoid disappointment. Coto Restaurante is on Ctra. de Ronda, A-397, Km 44, 29679, Benahavis. Its opening times are Monday to Saturday, 1pm to 12am, and 1pm to 6pm on Sunday. Visit their website for further information and reservations: cotorestaurante.com.

A day of Welshness
Photo: Côr Meibion Morlais
BELLA Festival
Kevin Fraser Park FINAL arrangements are being made for this years St David’s Day event at Plaza Mezquita in Benalmadena, so prepare for ‘a day of Welshness’ on Friday March 1. What a line-up there is this year, after many emails, phone calls and a bit of nagging they have managed to secure a performance by a choir all the way from the Rhondda Valleys in South Wales, ‘Côr Meibion Morlais’ which traces its history back to 1928. The 35 or so members of the choir are drawn from all ages and occupations: the youngest are under 25 years old, and the oldest over 70, with members from all professions and backgrounds. They sing all kinds of music, from opera choruses and religious works to folk songs and jazz
to pop songs and musical theatre, with most of our concerts including a vibrant selection from all these genres with of course, a strong Welsh bias. There is also a huge line-up of some of the Costa del Sol’s favourite entertainers, all giving up their time for local cancer hospice charity, Fundación Cudeca. The event boasts a host of well-known local acts from along the coast. It all kicks off at 1pm and will be finishing about 9pm (ish). The Welsh are hoping that you will all come along and support them and have a great time. At the event they will also be selling tickets for the Choir as they will be staging a concert in Arroyo de la Miel at the Casa de la Cultura on March 6, with proceeds once again going to Cudeca.

STARLITE KINGS

Kevin Fraser Park THE Gipsy Kings will perform at Starlite in Marbella on Friday July 19 with their guitarist and leader Nicolás Reyes at the front, to once again captivate the audience with their unmistakable style in which they mix flamenco, pop and Latin rhythms. It has been 25 years since the Gipsy Kings captured the world’s imagination with their self-titled debut album, a record that became a genuine phenomenon, certified gold and platinum around the globe, introducing millions of listeners to a unique, irresistible blend of traditional flamenco styles with Western pop and Latin rhythms. Since then, the band has toured virtually non-stop, to the farthest-flung corners of the planet, and sold almost 20 million albums.
In 2014, the band split up, giving rise to two groups that share the rights to their songs, each led by one of the founding brothers. Nicolás Reyes’ band (the other is André Reyes) is the one that will once again fill the Marbella festival with their music. The Gipsy Kings have spent a remarkable two-and-a-half decades at the top, in a category that’s all their own. Yet in those occasional periods when they aren’t touring, the band members still live with their families in the south of France, the area that defined their identities and their sound. Nicolás Reyes’ Gipsy Kings, were already at the festival last year and performed to a rapturous audience but now return bringing their unmistakable songs including: ‘Volare’, ‘Bamboleo’, ‘A Mi Manera’ and ‘Djobi Djoba’ to the Starlite stage.

debut. It is a testament to her rising fame that she recently played two nights with the legendary Andrea Bocelli at the WiZink Center in Madrid. Both nights were sold out, with over 15,000 people in attendance each night. The event is hosted by the TulSun Foundation, which has been supporting Ukrainian orphans and the disabled for over six years with much-needed health, educational and future care. Last year’s compassion symphony raised
an astonishing €14,300, allowing the TulSun Foundation to offer solace and brighter days for even more war-affected children. Concert funds helped children at the Fastiv Training and Rehabilitation Centre and provided vital shelter equipment. The goal this year is to raise €20,000 which would fund an annual rehabilitation course for children with disabilities in the Kyiv region as part of the ‘Kids & Abilities’ project.
