An Inspector Calls

SALÓN VARIE-

TÉS Theatre in Fuengirola presents the grippingly intense and intriguing thriller ‘An Inspector Calls’ from Wednesday May 15 to Sunday May 19. Performances are nightly at 7.30pm and on Sunday at 7pm.

Directed by Ruth Norris and starring: Sarah Coombes, Daniel Coughlan and Owain Griffiths, the play is set in 1912, at the home of the prosperous Birling family.

Arthur Birling, his wife Sybil, their daughter Sheila and son Eric are in the drawing room just after dinner celebrating Sheila’s engagement to Gerald Croft, son of Sir George Croft, and heir to the most successful

family business in the north of England. Their cosy celebration is suddenly interrupted when Edna, the parlour maid, announces the unexpected arrival of Police Inspector Goole. The Inspector has come to the Birling home as part of an inquiry into the death of a young woman. As the Inspector’s investigation unfolds, it is revealed they each have se-

crets linking them to the tragedy. More relevant now than ever, this is an unconventional approach to the traditional whodunit of detective fiction, the play is a scathing critique of the class system, moral complacency, and the consequences of individual actions. Set against the backdrop of pre-World War One England, Priestley uses the Birling family as a microcosm to highlight the social issues of the time.

For bookings call +34 952 474 542, tickets can also be bought at the box office on Mondays to Fridays, 11am to 2.30pm or one hour before each performance.

Bodega El Pimpi

Malaga’s highly acclaimed, historic Andalucian tavern, announces its next opening, in Puente Romano Beach Resort, Marbella.

Bodega El Pimpi, an icon of Malaga culture and gastronomy, spanning more than 50 years of history, will open this spring a new location in Marbella, in the award-winning Puente Romano Beach Resort.

This unprecedented expansion of El Pimpi, the first in its long and successful history, is an exciting and historic milestone. This emblematic Malaga bar & restaurant has remained almost unchanged since it opened in 1971, under the leadership of Pepe Cobos and Paco Campos from Cordoba. Considered an authentic gastronomic destination in the city, it has emerged as a place of pilgrimage for all those in search of the authentic flavours of Southern Spain. There are many reasons behind the collaboration between El Pimpi, currently in the hands of the Cobos family, together with the actor Antonio Banderas, and Pablo Gonzalo, and Puente Romano Beach Resort. Firstly, both El Pimpi and Puente Romano Beach Resort have unconditional love for Andalucia: for its traditions, for its wonderful people and for everything that makes this region a uniquely charismatic and alluring place in the world. Also, both businesses have the common desire to celebrate and share the extraordinary richness of Southern Spain (the exceptional produce, time-honoured recipes, award-wining wines, and captivating music...), with the wider world. And, last but not least, both are committed to excellence, not only in execution of the project, but also creating experiences with soul.

The arrival of El Pimpi at Puente Romano will further strengthen the culinary offerings of the resort - which already boasts world-renowned restaurants such as Nobu, COYA, Cipriani and GAIA - by offering guests a truly local and unforgettable experience.

This exciting new culinary adventure is expected to attract both guests, residents of the province as well as international visitors, creating a new gastronomic destination on the Costa del Sol.

Located in Fuengirola, this restaurant has been selecting, “the best ingredients on the market to bring them to the table fresh and prepared by hand since 1997,” reports the guide.

At Primavera you can find pizzas made with organic flour, sourdough and long fermentation, “to achieve better digestibility and aroma in

the final product.” What makes their pizzas special is the choice of the product and the craftsmanship of the preparations: “All our preparations are handmade and we use seasonal organic products,” they said. 50 Top Pizza has also announced the celebration of the first edition of Pizza Week Spain Edition, created in collaboration with Mammafiore, the distributor of Italian products in Europe. DOMINO (Dogs of Malaga in Need Organisation) is a registered charity in Malaga that takes care of abandoned, abused and injured dogs of the region.

They take dogs into foster families, where they are given medical care, vaccinated and chipped, getting their passport and the love and warmth they never received before.

For some of them it’s the first time that they do not have to be hungry and cold. After months, they are passed on to loving families where they can continue their new life. All this not only costs a lot of energy but also a lot of money. DOMINO organises events

in order to make this care possible including, every first Tuesday of the month from midday to 3pm there is a coffee morning at La Naranja in Calahonda. And on Saturday June 1 they have organised a Charity Lunch at Play Restaurant in Las Lagunas de Mijas.

The event is to raise funds for the charity and costs just €45 per person for a three-course lunch which includes one drink (beer, wine or a soft drink). There will be a raffle with prizes, relaxing music, free parking and, of course, dogs are welcome.

This festival, declared of Tourist Interest in Andalucia since 2009, is widely celebrated by tourists and residents alike. With a great agricultural and livestock tradition, the entire town takes to the streets for five days of celebration. Parallel to the Fair, a series of livestock competitions, food and wine tasting, shooting contests, bird exhibitions, horse riding, axe and chain saw handling competitions, are among the activities taking place.
