Bright future for your favourite free paper Great to see a respected brand and community based advertising platform back in the hands of a pro-active marketaware Director. Can’t wait to see the relaunch edition and I’m looking forward to working with an old and trusted friend and a leading name in publishing. Good luck to you and your team for 2017. Brett Stokes, MD Blenheim Properties SL and landlord of Churchills Pub
Congratulations Geoff and what a smart move! Jennifer Cunningham wishes Geoff and his team at the RTN good luck for the re-launch and is delighted to continue advertising weekly. Having worked with Geoff for many years, I for one missed him very much when he took a well-earned break. Now they are all back – watch this space.
SINCE the RTN was first published on 1st October 1999 Geoff Gartland and his team spent the subsequent years establishing a newspaper that represented it’s thousands of readers, providing informative news, events and stories at a local, national and international level. After almost 15 years Geoff decided to take early retirement, signing an agreement with a third party publisher allowing them to continue to use the RTN brand, unfortunately things did not go as planned. Negotiations broke down and Geoff had no alternative but to reclaim the RTN and joined forces with the EWN Media Group, who also own another publication called the Euro Weekly News. Having sold the brand to EWN Media Group Geoff was asked to stay with the RTN and use his expertise and that of his team to bring the paper back to its former glory. Geoff said: “this is a really exciting time, particularly as we have now joined the EWN Media Group who are a very strong company. They have the expertise, the infrastructure and are dynamic in their approach to sales. This can only be a positive move for the RTN, our readers and our advertisers.” Today’s RTN hits the streets with a bumper 56 page edition, the original design style and an extensive distribution in both North & South Costa Blanca. The paper will continue to support local charities and events, but also cover national and up-to-date news articles from around the world Geoff said: “I couldn’t be happier to be back at the helm, with the original team by my side and backed by the EWN Media Group the future is secured for the RTN.” If you have any suggestions or comments Geoff is happy for you to share them with him, simply email geoff@ewnmediagroup.com
Rested and revitalized after a short spell away from the paper, it¹s great to see Geoff re-join his team and be back at the reigns of the great RTN, that we all know and love. Good luck Geoff and welcome back. Heidi Winstanley Managing Director Round Town Travel
All of us DragonStack were very pleased to hear about Geoff’s return to RTN and we want to wish him and his team all the best. We look forward to working with you for many years to come
Congratulations Geoff on your return to RTN. It’s fantastic to see you and your team back where you belong. I’d like to wish you much success for the future and I’m sure that you have already settled back into you new (old) role! Sammy Kruz Co-organiser BENIDORM PRIDE

Couple denied civil partnership A couple in the UK have been refused the right to have a civil partnership instead of getting married by a Court of Appeal. by Caroline Tyszka Steinfeld and Charles Keidan, who have a 20 month old daughter, have been together for seven years and wanted to get legal recognition for their daughter but do not wish to get married. The heterosexual couple have said that they are ‘being unfairly treated because of their sexual orientation.’ Currently civil partnerships are only for same sex couples. Three judges hearing the appeal on Tuesday accepted that this was a breach of the couple’s human rights but that the Government should be allowed more time to decide the future of civil partnerships. The narrow decision to rule against the appeal was a severe blow to the couple who say they will continue to campaign for change. Miss Steinfeld aged 35 spoke following the ruling saying: “we are deeply disappointed by the decision.” Her partner Mr Keidan, aged 40 said: “Opening civil partnerships to all is fair, popular and will be good for families and children across the country.” The couple have nothing against marriage and believe it to be a meaningful expression of love and commitment but is not right for everyone. Campaigners have expressed their anger at the court ruling saying that it is unfair that same sex couples can either have a civil partnership or get married whereas mixed sex couples do not have the same rights.

One dead and four seriously injured in an accident in Orihuela One man has died and four people have been seriously injured following a traffic accident that occurred on Tuesday evening near Orihuela at about 7.30pm. One of the injured is a two year old child. The accident occurred in the section near the exit of the hamlet of La Matanza. The incident occurred after a head on collision between a Volkswagen car and a truck, on the fast lane that connects the ring road of Orihuela with the motorway, about 500 meters from the exit to La Matanza. Firefighters had to cutout a section of the car to reach the man who died in the collision. The car, a white Golf, was totally destroyed in the accident. Also travelling in the Golf was a young couple with their baby, all from a town in Murcia. The woman and the child are the ones who are in the most serious state. The other two injured people were travelling in a medium sized rental van. Emergency services were quickly on site and besides the firemen and the health assistance of the SAMU, there were Local Police patrol cars to regulate the traffic flow in the area. The injured have all been transferred to the Vega Baja hospital.
Rafal Town Council has removed the kiosk from the Plaza de España after serving the community for more than half a century. The local government, presided over by Manuel Pineda (PSOE), claims that this business has never had any type of opening license to carry out any activity or as an administrative concession, so Pineda considers that the situation is irregular and its removal has taken place. The present owner decided to appeal to the court because it considers that the situation causes them serious economic damage. The sale of this business took place in November of 2007. The seller was the commercial Construcciones Jurifran SL, who was represented by Alberto Hidalgo, who at this moment is a councillor of the PSOE. The buyer was Maria del Pilar Maciá, who is the mother of another current councillor, this time of the PP, Alberto Pastor. The agreed price was 84,141€ for the acquisition of the 12-square-meter kiosk and the agreement was initialed in the City Hall itself, being sealed by the then Justice of the Peace. However, nine and a half years later, the City Council say they been forced to close the installation and dismantle the booth. Actually, the business had been closed for more than a year but the owner had the right to open it when she wished to: or so she thought. “We have not had the intention to harm the family because the kiosk is not open and nobody works there. We are limited to complying with the legislation”, said Cutillas.

Hospital Quirónsalud Torrevieja offers new hope by Keith Nicol This week the Hospital Quirónsalud Torrevieja presented a new device for the treatment of cancer with intraoperative radiotherapy (RIO) in an operating room that suppresses or reduces the sessions of external irradiation. Treatment for patients with early breast cancer, called one step therapy, allows for surgical removal of the tumour, irradiation and iconoclastic reconstruction of the breast, suppressing external radiation therapy sessions. Dr. Rosa María Cañón, who is responsible for the Radiation Oncology Unit of the Oncology Platform of the Hospital Quirónsalud Torrevieja, explained that "the procedure in the operating room of the irradiation lasts 30 minutes, which avoids the normal 25 or 30 sessions of external irradiation of conventional treatments." RIO is a high-precision technique in which a single and elevated fraction of radiotherapy is administered during a surgical procedure on the tumour bed, with the advantage of direct visualization of the bed to be irradiated, avoiding the unnecessary irradiation of healthy tissues Surrounding areas. RIO has been used in the treatment of different malignant tumours, such as gastric, pancreatic, rectal, lung, gynaecological, retroperitoneal and limb sarcomas, generally in programs that associate external irradiation, to increase local control of the illness. The RIO with Mobetron (unique in Spain) allows the treatment of a large variety of tumours with the help of a multidisciplinary team. In the treatment of patients with breast cancer, it contributes directly to a greater benefit in the quality of life, since it shortens or suppresses the days of external irradiation, decreases the side effects and, in the cases of one step, allows for the immediate breast reconstruction. Firefighters mobile maintenance
In Torrevieja the Provincial Consortium of Firefighters have developed the first mobile unit for equipment maintenance in all of Spain. This is to aid them in their efforts to cut down the amount of fires and interventions in the region. Last month the Provincial Consortium of firefighters closed their books on January, 2017 with 779 interventions, 228 more than the same month in 2016. However, this was mainly due to storm damage, during the two instances of heaving down pours. The new pioneering maintenance unit has essential tools to carry out the rescue tasks for people trapped in vehicles (jaws of life), landslides or any other circumstance. In the case of the Provincial Fire Department, which includes 140 municipalities in the province of Alicante, this is a state-of-the-art unit at the forefront of the latest de-
velopments worldwide. The materials onboard are of millimetre precision, lightweight compared to the conventional units and require specific and exclusive training for its maintenance and development. Unlike other organizations, that decided to establish a fixed unit and outsource this unit, the Provincial Consortium, through its risk prevention department, carried out relevant studies and chose to incorporate a mobile unit. This decision has meant an optimization of human, material and economic resources. The Provincial Deputy of Emergencies, Jaume Lloret, explained that "the Provincial Firemen Consortium has a magnificent team and, to this extent, we also intend to have the best materials available to be really useful to those professionals and the 140 Municipalities of the Province of the Alicante consortium to which we service."

25 Years Of Pizza No 1
In the heart of Plays del Cura in Torrevieja is a landmark known to one and all in the city. And if no, it should be because on Monday March 13, Pizza No1 will celebrate 25 years passing since Salvatore Schinello and Maria Zabatta arrived from Italy with their two small daughters, Lisa and Daniela, and decided to make Torrevieja their new home. Salvatore was born in Dinami (Reggio Calabria), right at the tip of the boot of the Italian peninsula, but decided to emigrate to Germany, to the city of Freiburg. There he met Maria Zabatta, also an Italian who showed a prosperous future as a bank employee. They married had their two daughters, Lissa and Daniela. But fate would play its hand as one summer, they visited the family home that their parents had in La Mata, ... and they had visited on other occasions, but that summer, it was special. They thought it best to leave the cold Teutonic lands and start a new adventure in Torrevieja. Salvatore, travelled to Venice and for months was stubbornly learning the secrets of the best pizzas, to try to put his learning into practice. The family arrived in Torrevieja and on March 13, 1992 they inaugurated their first pizza place in Calle Ramón y Cajal, 16. In 1994 they moved to Playa del Cura, a place that today receives the visits of numerous diners who can delight not only in pizzas but with an assortment of first class menus for everyone, blending with the incomparable sea views of its terrace.

Supporting the Poppy Appeal in Mazarrón
The Ex Servicemen’s Association of Mazarrón District (ESAMD), founded in 2006, is a nonprofit organisation based in Mazarrón, Murcia, whose aim is to encourage the type of camaraderie experienced in the Armed Forces, whilst raising funds to support other military and local charities. Current membership has risen to more than 100 including three members of the Belgian Armed Forces. ESAMD has over the years raised much needed funds for a number of local charities, but every November members can be seen in Mazarrón and the area distributing over 60 boxes of poppies to the local businesses. The Association has tremendous support locally from businesses which have also raised money in various ways for the Poppy Appeal. In 2009 ESAMD raised €489, increasing in 2016 to an amazing €6,851.74 for the Poppy Appeal. The running total so far is almost €35,000 which is a tremendous achievement and testament to the dedication of the members and the generosity of the general public and businesses in and around the Mazarrón area. Bill Roberts, Treasurer of the Association, said his members felt so proud t o have
been able to assist their ex-comrades of the Armed Forces who were in need. The money was transferred into The Royal British Legion District North account to add to their annual total; last year it was over €165,000. Peggy Wyatt, the local Legion Public Relations Officer said, “I was delighted to recently meet with members of this superb Association. It was an honour for me to be able to thank them personally for all their contributions to the Legion over the years. We are often asked how the Poppy Appeal money is spent in Spain and here are just a few of the many ways we are able to help: • Stair lifts • Mechanical wheelchairs and scooters • Refurbishing homes so beneficiaries had a better standard of life, ie. changes to a bathroom or bedroom • Wood, oil and solar panels have been purchased for isolated properties There were also smaller items, gas canisters, fridges and food, as well as dental bills and help with the purchase of spectacles.” Our caseworkers are always busy visiting and spending time with potential beneficiaries. The definition of a beneficiary is someone who has served in the Armed Forces or their dependants. On some occasions we are able to ‘signpost’ someone to another charity or organisation and this means the person can have the best possible help available.” For support or information about the Legion please contact assistance.rbl.dns@gmail.com or telephone 676 451 780 or visit www.britishlegion.org.uk/counties/spain-north. Turning wine blue
One of the most interesting innovations in the world of local wine making, is happing thanks to local Scandinavian restaurant Casa Vital. On Tuesday evening more than 100 invited guests and dignitaries enjoyed a wine tasting of local wines accompanied by flamenco music and dance in the cultural centre in Albir, an event that will be followed up on 11th March with a dinner and special tasting session at Real Club Nautico in Torrevieja. The wine in question is called Azul Mediterrรกneo, which is made from chardonnay grapes. Although most famous for its still, dry wines, Chardonnay is used to produce an impressively diverse range of wine styles. The variety is put to use in sparkling wines all over the world (most famously Champagne), when it is usually paired with Pinot Noir. Azul Mediterrรกneo is blue thanks to a natural pigment called anthocyanin. This pigment is extracted from the skin of red grapes and is mixed with the broth until the chardonnay grape colour that characterizes Azul Mediterrรกneo. Anthocyanins are also powerful antioxidants, and thus have anti- ageing properties. They are protective against cellular oxidative stress, as with most of flavonoids has been able to establish a link between regular consumption of foods rich enantocianina and a lower incidence of a variety of malignancies. So, why not raise a glass of wine tonight, as it could be good for your health. The party was hosted alongside Currency Direct’s long time media partners the EWN. Helad at Marbella’s Puente Romano Beach Resort & Spa, a great time was had by all. Group Corporate Director John Thomson was overseeing, with canapés, drinks and ambience in abundance in Joe’s Bar. Long term clients, friends and family all attended from both companies, travelling in from all over the Costa Blanca. Currencies Direct Southern Europe director, Peter Loveday and his team hosted this great celebration. Peter spoke of the company’s rise from small seeds to an enterprise with 14 offices in Spain, and a product which means “we buy in huge volumes at great rates and we pass these benefits onto our clients.” He generously took time out not only to thank everyone for coming, but also asked everyone to spare a thought for little Leo Bermejo, from Almeria, who has so bravely been battling his cancer.
24 feb - 2 march 2017
“So many people in the community have helped this little family. The way people have rallied round to raise money and help Leo is just marvelous,” he said. Leo’s brave battle has featured prominently in EWN and in our hearts, as he takes his trip to the US, hopefully for the treatment that will rid him once and for all of the cancer that has plagued his young life. After Peter’s generous speech, EWN’s managing director Michel Euesden had a surprise in the form of a giant birthday cake – so large it had to be wheeled in – to wish the company many more years of success. It was accompanied after a chorus of ‘Happy Birthday’ by a salute from two canons which fired orange confetti and mini-euro notes into the air! On such a wonderful night, you want your choice of music to make it a celebration to remember. This was achieved with the stunning vocals of Mr Maph and Simone Lisa. The couple have been together for more than 30 years providing amazing solo and duet pieces for R&B, Soul, Reggae…you name it and they have it in their marvelous repertoire. From the driving vocals of Ike and Tina Turner’s Nutbush City Limits to Bob Marley’s greatest, it’s all there. They were supported by Marbella-based entertainer Antony Wolfson and his inimitable take on the Presley greats. He’s a man who is neither a tribute artist nor an impersonator, but a singer who lives and breathes the songs of his great hero Elvis. When you’ve been praised by the great man’s wife, you can’t go higher than that. Topping off the musical offerings were several from Steve Cline, including Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline. The thunderous applause after every act showed just what an appreciative audience was there on the night. This quartet made it a night that will live long in the memory. In keeping with the business of the hosts on such a wonderful evening, the guests were greeted by two giant balloon structures, one a euro and the other a pound sign. Guests were generously supplied with money and although it was fake on this occasion, it did mean entitlement to cocktails throughout the evening! When you’ve turned 21, you want a night to remember…everyone at Puente Romano joined in the Happy Birthday salute to their hosts, Currencies Direct, taking away memories of a great night on the Costa del Sol… here’s to the next 21 years!!!!

Torrevieja twitching tourism by Keith Nicol The Department of Environment of the City of Torrevieja this week attended a presentation from the Valencian Autonomous Secretary of Tourism, Francesc Colomer, who presented a new Plan of Action to Promote Ornithological Tourism in the Valencia Region. This new program is promoted by the Valencian Tourism Agency, and Torrevieja was cited as an example of the work that has begun to enhance this tourism offer. Francesc Colomer noted “Ornithological tourism has outstanding growth potential" and stressed the importance of "having a strategy within the sector to develop product training, promotion, qualification and the creation of a
Product Club that allows us to be relevant in this specially world of Ornithological tourism." The International Fair of Ornithological Tourism - FIO - which celebrates its 12th edition, takes place this weekend of February 24-26, 2017, at the National Park of Monfragüe (Cáceres). Torrevieja;s Department of Tourism delivered promotional material to be given to the expected 12,000 visitors who come to this exhibition.
La Laguna Fair This year the Antiques and Collectors Fair are expanding to include four fairs and the next one is to be held at the lovely new venue, The Hotel La Laguna, Golf and Spa, Quesada. They are supporting a different local charity at each fair and at this one it is to be DEBRA The Butterrly Children's charity which is a charity that they had not heard of before had and after accidentally finding their charity shop not far from the hotel, they were so moved by the plight of these children that they had to be the first charity for this area. They will be represented at the fair and anyone wanting to know more about them will find their stand there. The hotel is a super location for an Antiques and Collectors Fair and the Events Director has been more than helpful. The Fair is on the 8th March from 11am hours until 6pm.There will be some fantastic Antiques and Collectable pieces to see. Almost every field in the world of antiques can be found. Entrance and parking are free and there is food and drink available all day.
Birdwatching enthusiasts will be able to collect information about the Natural Park of the Lagunas de Torrevieja and La Mata, which reflects the richness of species that this natural space attracts at different times of the year. While Torrevieja looks forward to a great future, already the International Ornithological Tourism Fair has put Extremadura on the world map of bird watching and this has become the second most important event in Europe.

Birthday girl and founder Janine Williams and Maddie Pinfold
The Club and Associations area is as busy as every on the Costa Blanca and one of those who quietly enjoy themselves and do more than their fair share of fundraising is Ladies who Lunch. LwL, as the name might apply, is a ladies only lunch group based in Quesada, who meet on the first Wednesday of every month to enjoy friendship and raise money for charities across the Costa Blanca. This group also undertake initiatives to collect and donate items for schools, the homeless and needy families in the area. One of the highlights of the February lunch, which was held at Pacos Restaurant, Guardamar Campo, was that the 53 ladies not only enjoyed the Menu Del Dia bu also raised the great sum of 215€. Three charities were also represented a the lunch and chosen to receive a share of the donations from other fund raising initiatives. Anne from DEBRA received 1,000€; The Alzheimer Association representatives Pauline and Javea also received 1,000€, and in turn presented the group with a plaque. Paul Cunningham Nurses, the group's original charity received 513.75€; this charity was represented by Tricia Lee. This day was also a celebration of the founder, Janine Williams, becoming an octogenarian. And so great fun was had by all, including a cake and candles made by a loyal member of LwL Josie Caunce. For information about LwL and their work, please contact the birthday girl: Janine Williams 966 261 359 or Maddie Pinfold 966 840 241.

Carnival time in Torrevieja by Keith Nicol Thousands of people lined Torrevieja's main street on Sunday afternoon, for a full four hours of carnival processions. From early afternoon, eager attendees started arriving and taking their place on the seats on route, and with cameras and mobile phones at the ready, prepared themselves for what was possibly Torrevieja's most colourful carnival to date. And the good news is, if you missed it, or want more of it, the main Carnival is tomorrow night, Saturday, starting at 10pm as it makes its way down Calle Ramon Gallud in the opposite direction to which the traffic normally runs. This year's afternoon carnival was full of feathers, colours and sci-fi themes. with great music and dance moves that delighted the audience throughout the afternoon. Thirty-two dance schools, local associations, schools and children's groups took part: five of them foreign or from other areas of Spain, surpassing the numbers from previous editions. Apart from the estimated eight thousand or more lining the streets, nearly two thousand people participated in one of the most spectacular editions of Carnival seen in Torrevieja. Just last year the parade-contest of carnival was declared a "Festival of Provincial Tourist Interest". Although the Torrevieja Carnival is not as big and lavish as some other provincial events, the compact nature of the street parade plus the imagination shown in designing the costumes and choreography, sets it apart from may of the less personal and bigger events, as one feels one s really part of the action. For more than four hours the dancers paraded from the neighbourhood of the Plaza de MarĂa AsunciĂłn (JJ Mullins Pub) to Patricio Perez Street, to the rhythm of music and clothed by the applause of a public as they made their way to the finishing point at the Plaza de la ConstituciĂłn. Don't miss tomorrow's spectacular parade, that starts at 10.00pm and should reach the town square about an hour later.

A Spanish North Pole I’ve lived in Spain now for nearly 27 years, and I don’t regret a minute of it. The only trouble is that this year’s been the worst I can remember. I never thought I’d see snow on the beach near my flat at Altea, and that b – y wind nearly crippled my chilblains. And it’s still not over. This isn’t Spain any more. It’s the North Pole! Bob (Jock), Altea
Benidorm cycling lanes gone mad!
Is it just me or has Benidorm Town Hall gone mad? It seems that everywhere you turn recently there is a new cycling lane. By the edge of the road where we all expect them to be, and now, right down the CENTRE of major roads. Cyclists generally do not regard road signs at the best of times, and now they are flying across busy junctions, through red lights, between two moving streams of traffic etc!! Alternatively there seems to be many new multi million euro cycle paths completety empty. Yours, Disgruntled Driver
A night at the flicks
I love Spain and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else in the world. However there are one or two things which irritate me. Why oh why do we have to travel so far to see and hear a good concert or opera? Our local cinema in Denia is doing a fine job transmitting live performances of opera and ballet from the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, but although I admire their initiative, it’s not the same as the real thing. And talking of cinema why do nearly all the local Spanish cinemas refuse to show more than one original language films a week when there are so many expats living in their area? What’s more the one film they show is usually the worst of the week’s bunch. I’d love to know what other film buffs like me feel about this? Dorothy Pilger-Smythe Denia
Justice gone wild
My husband died in 2010 but it wasn’t until the following year that I discovered he had left enormous debts. That was the start of a year of nightmares for me as not one of the local authorities offered any help about who I could see for advice. But the worst was to come when I discovered that for years my husband had not only been having an affair with a Spanish woman but that they had a six year
old daughter. Imagine my horror when one morning I was summoned to court in Alicante where a Spanish judge told me that I was responsible for the maintenance of the child until she had reached the age of 18 and that if I didn’t keep up with the payments I would be evicted from my home. Is this what they call Spanish justice? Elsie Jackson (Mrs) Villa Joyosa

Spanish Property Ownership by
Mark Roach
Company Director and Spanish Tax Consultant
What BREXIT could mean for property owners in Spain The United Kingdom’s decision to leave the European Union has raised important questions in regards to how such a move will affect British buyers of property in Spain or current Spanish property owners. As a member of the Association of International Property Professionals, Wincham is made up of qualified Lawyers, Tax Consultants, Accountants, Gestores (qualified Legal Assistants) and Economists. Using the skills and experience of its staff, Wincham is monitoring the situation very closely and will continue to be at the forefront of events as they develop, offering support and expert advice to new and existing clients. It must be noted that Spain has a long history of welcoming overseas buyers, so Brexit is unlikely to impact the rights of British citizens. Spanish property remains excellent
value for money. What’s more, trade treaties have operated between the UK and Spain for many years and existed long before the UK’s entry into the EU during 1973. With offices in the UK and Spain, Wincham specialises in helping clients purchase, own, inherit and sell Spanish property either privately or within a UK limited company structure. Purchasing Spanish Property within a UK Limited Structure can provide a number of benefits including:• Possible reduction of the 6-10% Property Purchase Tax on Resale Purchases. • Spanish Inheritance and Wealth Tax savings. • No 3% annual Off-Shore Company Tax. • No Spanish Will and Probate required. • Reduction in potential future Capital Gains Tax Wincham can provide a range of services to make the process easier, including 24-hour UK Company

Living in an uncertain world by
Jennifer Cunningham
What a fascinating few weeks it has been with regard to the new President of America. I, along with many, felt very unhappy about even the thought of Trump becoming President. I realise there are many in America that supported him and still do, but I am unsure if they all understand, for instance, what a dreadful decision he made regarding Muslims coming into America, with bona fide reasons for wanting to travel to the US, with permissions which took years to be granted. These people are not the terrorists that he suggests, just traumatised families escaping a war zone. He would be better to concentrate on the real threat to the Western World - ISIS, the Syrian President and Putin. Within the first few weeks Trump has already lost his CIA Director James Woolsey and now his National Security Adviser, Michael Flynn and I don´t expect them to be the only ones. With regards to the seven countries whose people were banned from entering the States by Trump, this obviously is now causing a huge rift between the President and the Supreme Court, which does not bode well. Having recently watched a press conference, which was reminiscent of his campaign presentations, where he continually attacked the press both in America and the UK. I was flabbergasted and have never seen anything like this, either in the UK or America, in my lifetime. On listening very carefully to all the arguments for and against Brexit, I along with many Expats are amazed at the total lack of interest in those of us Brits living
within the EU. I for one am not worried about Spain’s reaction – they couldn´t afford to get rid of us and then have the Spanish living in the UK returning home to add to the unemployment list. It just doesn´t make economic viability. However, not much in life at the moment seems to make sense. Something that does make a lot sense, whilst living in Spain, is to take responsibility for inevitable that will happen to all of us. I understand in the UK that the uptake on funeral plan purchases is quite staggering. I find this quite refreshing as it means that the British are at long last able to discuss their demise in a clear and constructive way. One wonders if this is down to the “baby boomers” coming of age at long last. I realise that some of the “baby boomers” are living in Spain but there are many others who need to be persuaded that a funeral plan is essential, especially when living in a country and culture different to their own. Why do I say that? I felt the need to start to offer funeral plans after I lost my husband in unexpected circumstances many years ago. Not only was it very expensive but exceedingly stressful. I must admit that I had never heard of funeral plans been available in Spain before his death. Last year sadly, I lost my partner, and again it was a steep learning curve but a very different one. Philippe wasn´t very interested in a funeral plan, as he was Belge /French and had never heard of them and like many men he didn´t believe it would happen to him ( I hear this often), although I was very close to persuading
him. When his two sons arrived in great distress from Belgium, they could do nothing until they had obtained their own NIE´s, not even to request a funeral (even I didn´t know this). Had a funeral plan been in place, the whole procedure would have been very much simpler, far less stressful and they would not have had the additional burden of having to find a large sum of money immediately. They would still have required NIE´s for all the other issues but not for the funeral. Even with my help and others, it took over two weeks before they were able to return home, and they have since had to return to continue the paperwork. This has obviously been very costly and emotional for them both. Without myself and the help of my staff, I dread to think how much longer everything would have taken. As far as I am concerned, it is the most loving and supportive action that you could do for each other and your entire family. So therefore why not take a moment of your time and ask yourself – have you done all you can to help your partner and your family cope with one of the most dreadful times of their lives – or are you going to ignore the inevitable and leave your family to sort out everything that is required of them? Having had experience of this and seen the effect it had on my partner’s two sons, who in their grief had to deal with the whole process of a funeral, instead of making one call, to have it all organised and paid for. How much simpler it could have been. You know it makes sense. Contact one of my offices for more information or go to my website www.jennifercunningham.net

Machines could take over the future EVER since the Jewish religion introduced the concept of the Golem in the middle ages, a mud statue brought to life but without a soul, mankind has believed that human replicas could eventually be animated and created with intelligence. By John Smith The word Robot was first introduced to the world in 1920 in a play and since then, the concept of a mechanical being has been expanded to include Android (human robot) and Cyborg (man-machine hybrid). Popular culture abounds with references to these man created machines and robotics have been used in industry for many years now but the European Parliament is worried that as they become more human in form and thought, their existence should be covered by law. MEPs have therefore been presented with a report which recognises that there is a new revolution in robotics and artificial intelligence and therefore laws should be passed before it is too late to regularise their
production and ‘lives’. In essence the reports suggests that the parliament needs to decide whether there is such a thing as an ‘electronic person’ and if so what rights if any they should be given. In addition, MEPs are recommended to instruct manufacturers to come up with an easy way to terminate the robots ‘life’ if necessary. In his 1950 novel ‘I Robot’, science fiction writer Isaac Asimov created the three laws of robotics which were built into the brains of all robots and these are; “A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.” “A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.” “A robot must protect its own existence as
Robots could take over Photo Credit: Willyam Bradberry Shutterstock
long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.” It is possible that these ‘laws’ will be part of any new EU legislation especially as artificial intelligence becomes more than a jerky white plastic robot playing chess and humanoid androids start to take over work from human beings. It is already anticipated that call centres manned by humans will disappear within the
next 10 years or so and as we enter the ‘Brave New World’, the EU wants to ensure that it does become a dystopian nightmare as seen in ‘The Terminator’ and ‘The Matrix. It is however unlikely that legislators will be brave enough to stop the inevitable job losses that will occur when big business is able to use artificially intelligent creations which don’t have unions, lunch breaks, wage demands, holidays or maternity leave.
Enjoy free coffee and pay for your time By John Smith TWO major developments have caused some problems for High Street operators and a Russian entrepreneur may just have found the answer. When the coffee revolution saw the expansion of companies such as Starbucks, Costa Coffee and even McCafe across Europe, it created a whole new generation of baristas and customers but this coincided with the growth of home working for many. Rather than hang around in the house, individuals with their lap tops started to congregate in these coffee shops to take advantage of the trendy interiors, good coffee, warm surroundings and free WiFi. The problem that arises is that these individuals take up space and unless they are keeping the corporate coffee cup loaded, are not generating the sort of profits that these international (and even independents) need to keep in business. A few years ago, a Russian poet turned businessman Ivan Mitin expanded a poetry group which met in bars and cafes in Moscow so that it had a regular meeting place called the Treehouse. At that time, he relied on donations to ensure that he was able to secure the room on a regular basis but having decided that this was a somewhat
precarious situation he came up with the idea of charging people to attend. As this went so well he expanded the concept and created Ziferblat which means Clockface in both German and Russian with the concept that people would pay by the minute to use a room as a café and meeting place but all food and drink would be free. So successful was this concept that he soon found himself opening a number of these rooms around Russia and in 2014 opened his first Ziferblat in London. Very simply visitors receive a clock when they arrive and pay 3p (4c) per minute whilst using the room. There are no waiters but guests can make themselves tea and coffee, have biscuits and cakes and use the free WiFi whilst chatting with friends or sitting at their laptops working. Unlike a coffee shop, the laid back atmosphere encourages people to talk to each other and there is background music as well as occasional performances by local musicians with artists often welcome to hang their work on the walls. Whilst this wouldn’t suit everyone, the concept is such that it has expanded within the UK to Liverpool and Manchester and other sites where rents are not too high will be developed. As the business continues to develop so it will no doubt head for popular cities with trendy student populations such as Amsterdam and Barcelona.

Spotted I was on my way to New York last week for a mini break with my gals, swanning through Terminal 5 and a very animated young lady invited us to be checked in VIP, of course we followed with wide eyes (thinking free UPGRADE!) We then met a lovely “chatty Cathy” who asked us a bunch of questions about our trip. Now, my friends started giggling and asking if I recognised the BA staff member… erm no I didn’t, then after a few moments I realised, its only blooming EMMA BUNTON from the SPICE GIRLS! Undercover Comic Relief prank apparently! Gutted, because I found out Tom Daley and David Walliams were there moments earlier!
Best Vocal Bruno Mar’s Tribute to the late Prince. This man has no limits… you have to check it out!

On everyone’s lips The 59th Grammy Awards – Queen B vs The A Bomb. Hosted by fellow Brit, James Corden at the Staples Center, LA on Feb 12th, the event proved to be … eventful at the least. Now I run a live event every year and you can bank on small teething problems, however this international event with over 26 million viewers certainly had its fair share of cock-ups! (Check out the full video on YouTube). As soon as the nominations were released the tongues started wagging, it was crystal clear the race was between Adele and Beyonce. Adele received 5 nominations winning all 5 Beyonce received a whopping 9, winning 2 Being the gracious gal that she is, Adele emotionally dedicated her “Album Of The Year” award to B.
Trumped out Super awkward! Sheltering from a blizzard in the entrance of Trump Towers in NYC and being ordered to MOVE ON by machine-gun-clad officers!
Most random collaboration Metallica and Lady Gaga. Gaga was on top form, but due to microphone issues the performance felt awkward.

The Cucaracha Club on the Big Screen ALMOST A year ago, the locally produced and independent micro-financed feature film, 'The Cucaracha Club' had its World Premier to a full house in Torrevieja, last March. By Keith Nicol The word this week is that the spy thriller will now have its UK premiere at the Darlington Arts Festival on 15th May, at The Forum Music Centre, Borough Road, Darlington. Early reviews are very favourable, and Siesta Productions, who made the film, are now looking for distributors in Europe. Recently The Cucaracha Club was awarded a 12A certificate for general release and work has been frantic behind the scenes as negotiations continue for broadcast, streaming, DVD and distribution rights. This marks yet another proud moment for actor Billie Anthony Gaddess, who co-wrote the screenplay with Phillip Routledge and stars as not-so-special agent George Ramshaw. In an interview with Sandra Piddock, she said: “As a native of North East England, Billie is delighted that the film’s first UK showing will be on his home turf. The Cucaracha Club was made entirely in and around Torrevieja, using local actors and featuring many local beauty spots and businesses.” Several of the film’s cast and production crew will be travelling over from Spain for the premiere, and everyone will be able to enjoy a buffet supper before settling down to watch the film in the Forum’s comfortable auditorium. Looking towards the future, Billie has now written the screenplay for the sequel, 'The Cucaracha Club 2: The Route of All Evil', which is set to go into production in October 2017. Once again, Los Montesinos musician Peter Taylor has written songs specially for the film. Looking even further ahead, Billie, executive producer Clive Gray and director Rai Woods are already working on the script and putting together ideas for a third film.

Children's Activities in the Roman theatre By Keith Nicol As part of Cartagena's Carnival activities, the Roman Theatre Museum has organised a family activity, tomorrow, Saturday 25th February. This fun, educational activity is aimed at families with children aged 5 to 10, and participants will be able to enjoy the fun of dressing up and also participate in games plus a parade. The Roman Saturnalias left behind their legacy through the use of masks, parades or political satire. In February the Lupercales hold celebrations in honour of the god Fauno Luperco. On the way, the young Lupercales, cheered on by the public, turned the walk into a carnival parade, with songs and dances. The activity is free and will be held in the Museum of the Roman Theatre at 11.30am, lasting for approximately one and a half hours . You can request more information and reserve a place at the Museum box office, email: fundacion@teatroromanocartagena.org and at the telephone number 968 50 48 02.
XLVI Provincial Contest of Music Bands If you've never been to the excellent International Auditorium in Torrevieja, or you fancy enjoying a free night of music tomorrow, you have the opportunity to do so. Tomorrow, Saturday, February 25, the 46th edition of the Provincial Music Band Contest will be held at the Torrevieja International Auditorium, in its third and first category, with
Phoenix Solos, Dinner Dance
the award winning "Unión Musical Torrevejense" as its host
One of Torrevieja's longest established social groups, Phoenix Solos, will soon be holding a dinner/dance to celebrate 15 years continuous operation since its formation in January 2001. It has provided an opportunity for those on their own to improve their social life and make new friends. The event will be held tomorrow, 25th February at Restaurant Rendezvous, Altos del Limonar: a date which coincides with the 85th birthday of one of the co-founders. President Malcolm Peasgood added: “Former members who would like to attend are invited to contact the Treasurer on 96 670 3139.” As per their website at: http://phoenixsolos.wix.com: The Phoenix Solos Club, based in Torrevieja, was formed in January 2001 by Joy Warwick and Malcolm Peasgood and Malcolm is still active overseeing things as Club President. The demise of an earlier Solos International club had left a void with nowhere for those on their own to meet people and make new friends and so from the ashes of the old, the appropriately named "Phoenix Solos" came into being and is still going strong today. Phoenix Solos is an English Speaking club open to people of all nationalities that aims to provide a social setting for the widowed, divorced or single to network, plan activities or just have a chat. In Malcolm's own words " what people miss when they are on their own is somebody to talk with and this is what the group as a bare minimum aims to give to it's members. If you are single and wish to make new friends, then we invite one and all to come along and join us for drink and a chat. The Social Club meet on Monday mornings from 11am at The Marina Club, International Marina Puerto Deportivo, 03180 Torrevieja. Membership only costs 5€ for an entire year.
4.00pm. It is a great opportunity to listen to great musical
band. Admission will be free until the auditorium is filled to capacity is completed and will be celebrated in sessions of tomorrow from the 10.00am and in the afternoon from societies of our province. This event is organized by the Provincial Council of Alicante and hosted by Unión Musical de Torrevieja.

Kenny, I am haunted by a dream that repeats often. Sometimes it is not the whole sequence that repeats, but a part of it always does. I find that I am being asked questions that I cannot answer and then I get upset. What does this mean? Sue J. Any such repeating dream, or part of it, serves to really get a message home to you. Very often it is you who needs to ask a question rather then you being unable to answer somebody else’s question. Are you currently upset about something? Or distressed about the way things panned out? Try before you sleep to have some questions you need answering and they will stand up to your being questioned. Flash up your silence as a refusal to answer anything you don’t have to, and as a way of saying that you are not to be messed with! This dream will leave you for sure, if you take control! Make a difference now that finally the time is right.
If It’s Your Birthday This Week
Take time to act coolly to a change in situation. Right now the Cosmos fuels you with energies and supports strongly your immediate need to continue on with something you gave up on. You had your reasons to do what you did, and it’s all about to make a difference now that finally the time is right.

The midweek opposition with Jupiter means that you will finally take a stand to enforce your own opinions, if that is what it will take to get your message out! Forget the idle negative comments of those who do not know all the facts, you do, and you must show those who doubt you now that above all you are determined and not to be messed with!
Some innermost energies are reaching out to you right now, and the subtle changes you have made just lately are certainly a feather in your cap. Not a time to think about anything but a time to do what feels instinctively right for you. You know what needs to be done and taking control is an agreement with yourself to move to where you should be!
It is stubborn pride that keeps somebody away from you right now. You did what you had to do and even in hindsight you can justify your actions since, for you, the truth will always win through whatever. Just as Jupiter takes on Mars, it is time to look ahead for a change, since you have a lot to gain and nothing whatsoever to lose this time around.
A focus on your domestic arrangements comes to the fore this week. You have been burning the candle at both ends and it is time to be a true part of the family once more. You have had your priorities in mind, but the warm support you get in return is much needed now. The Sun conjuncts with Neptune to allow for some much needed rest and relax.
A time to be a shoulder to cry on! As Mars opposes Jupiter there is an air of indecision and there needs to be a nip in the bud, which will be seen as a short sharp shock for someone. Expect only a temporary change in your stability as treasured routines may go out of the window and you are left alone, holding the fort for a change and doing a good lob
Mercury instills the value of hard work in the equation that relates to your innermost soul right now. This is the portent that you need to release some of that creative energy, allowing you to finally start thinking about the future, and your just desserts! If the time and tried doesn’t work then look at inner resources and at all the talent you hide inside.
Mercury takes on Pisces fairly and squarely with a view to spreading the word this week. It is time to renounce your silence and to let your views be known, as this will encourage much needed communication. Whilst you are at it this is the ideal time to take on a home based project that you have been putting off, but which now is even more necessary
The Sun conjuncts Neptune, and ambition is your guide right now. Plough your ideas and your aspirations into making the most of a loophole that will help you to establish yourself; and be very unafraid of the changes that you can now make. Better times are coming your way, and there will be no need to ever look back, unless you really want to!
Peaceful solution comes from your soulful innermost self and not as advice from those who seek to establish control on your behalf. There seems to be more than just meets the eye in something that has become a set back to your recent progress. In the opposition to Uranus, Jupiter makes sure that your intentions are really on the level
Either somebody has got hold of the wrong end of the stick, or your message may have been deliberately misconstrued. Whatever it is time to make amends and you must take steps to clear the way to a prompt resolution. The sextile with Ceres is calling time on resentment and misunderstanding, bringing a fully clean slate to work with.
The Mars opposition to Jupiter sponsors a plan to travel, but it is you who must take control of the forward planning, this time around. Having something to look forward to will allow you to shift your focus away from current problems, and this alone will serve to motivate you in many ways. Check the small print before you sign anything!!
The Sun conjuncts at the start of a very busy week; and one in which you will see your hopes and plans illuminated; so as to encourage you all the way. There are a few surprises around the corner and these are pointers as to which direction to take. Belief in yourself is the key to getting ahead and then there will truly be no stopping your progress.

Exercise could help shrink tumours
Staying active during cancer treatment can improve survival rates. VIGOROUS exercise could help those going through treatment for cancer. Whilst it may be the last thing patients feel like doing, a group of researchers at the University of Copenhagen said it could be beneficial in the long term. They have been studying tumours in mice and discovered that intensive physical activity can help the body’s own defences shrink the growth of tumours by up to 50 per cent and believe there could be a similar effect to human cancer patients. Researchers found that ‘Natural Killer’ cells were directed towards tumours
during vigorous exercise and they believe that the shot of adrenaline produced by a high-intensity workout helps move these immune cells towards lung, liver, or skin tumours. Meanwhile Macmillan Cancer Care found 77 per cent of cancer patients had not received any advice from their physicians on the benefits of exercise. A review of six studies by Macmillan found 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity per week had a 40 per cent lower risk of breast cancer morality and breast cancer recurrence compared with women active for less than one hour per week.

Mind tricks to make you a healthier eater A HEALTH psychologist who has studied eating behaviour and obesity for 25 years, believes there are simple tricks to making you a healthier eater: By Gemma Quinn Accept the hunger Hunger pangs are not a sign to snack, it simply means you are getting hungry and so try and avoid the urge to snack and just enjoy your next meal. Three minute cravings Hunger isn’t just a physical process to do with how full or empty the stomach is, essentially hunger comes from the mind. ‘Cravings’ are not necessarily about the food but it represents and they usually only last a few minutes so go and distract yourself for three minutes to avoid the need for reaching for that chocolate bar. Anticipated regret Many who are trying to lose weight and eat healthier feel guilty when they eat a naughty treat and wish they hadn’t so next time you want that cake remember and imagine how you might feel afterwards. Even better, think about how good you will feel if you eat an apple instead. Cook from scratch You will be in more control of what you eat and avoid hidden sugars and fats in preprepared meals and sauces. Even if you are short on time, a quick pasta dish with a tin of tomatoes and diced vegetables is a healthier choice than putting a ready meal in the microwave.
What are the causes of smelly feet? IT is thought that around 20 per cent of the population suffer from foot odour, but what actually causes smelly feet? A poor diet, metabolic disorders, fungal infections, eating certain food or wearing shoes made of synthetic materials are all factors, according to the College of Chiropodists of Valencia (Icopv). However, the Icopv also noted that generally the most common cause of this problem is the proliferation of bacteria in the body due to excessive sweating. The use of deodorants and antiperspirants “is not a solution” said Icopv who recommend going to a podiatrist to determine the cause. Regarding treatments to solve the smelly feet, they can range from antibiotics or anti-fungals, applying drying powder treatments, the elimination of certain foods and in cases of extreme sweating, surgical treatments. To help prevent odour remember to wash feet daily and fully dry them. Avoid wearing shoes that are too tight or are made from synthetic materials, and opt for leather, canvas or mesh materials to allow the feet to breathe and wear socks that repel moisture, are wool or cotton.

Planting with purple PURPLE is actually the second most common flower colour, only trailing behind yellow, but we often fail to get the most out of it. It is an incredibly versatile colour, which can either be vibrant or subdued, so it really depends on what kind of statement you’re trying to make with your particular flower garden. If you’re going for a pale purple, lilac and lavender can be a lovely choice. The contrasting colour for violet and purple is yellow. The paler shades offered up by lilac and mauve look very nice next to creamy yellows, such as common primroses. When purples are placed alongside whites, silvers and greys, they look darker and more vibrant than they really are, and both colour groups pop. For something more dramatic, try morning glories or some purple gladiolus.
Asparagus is absolutely fabulous
Ancient art of Bonsai
ASPARAGUS is one of the few perennial vegetables out there, so once you get a good batch going, you’ll have harvests for year to come, and you’ll barely even have to do anything. The first year that you plant it, allow asparagus to grow completely and don’t even bother to harvest it. Just enjoy looking at those green beauties knowing they’ll be all yours for the taking the next time around. In the second year, harvest the asparagus when the spears are about ½ an inch in diameter, but only do this for two weeks. Cut or break off the spears at about the 7- to 9-inch mark with the tips tightly closed. In subsequent years, harvest the asparagus for somewhere between five and eight weeks, then wait for the shoots to become ferny so that the roots are sturdier and stronger when the following year’s crop comes in. A COMPLEX craft requiring a great deal of dedication and skilful artistry, Bonsai reflect the essence of gardening by capturing the vast and wild within the small and tamed. Literally translating as ‘planted in a container´, Bonsai has historically held fascination among a western audience, having been exported from the Orient at the turn of the last century. The horticultural practice has been around for a thousand years and involves growing a miniaturised version of a plant in the form of a tree. Plenty of species can be grow this way with the right conditions and skilled grower. Pruning, clipping, wiring and pinching all enable the artist to cultivate the strength, health and aesthetics of the plant. Bonsai sales have increased across Europe as more and more people hope to challenge themselves, but the number of true enthusiasts has remained fairly steady. This is because the typical variety sold in garden stores are ill-equipped to last very long. Bonsai are typically grown indoors but are also highly suited to their own temperate climate, which means growing Chinese or Japanese exported plants in Spain is likely to lead to disappointment. By selecting a suitable Spanish plant with a strong trunk and following the right instructions, you can grow your own bonsai outside and open up a whole new chapter in your gardening experience.

Top tricks for a stylish home
By Eleanor Hawkins IF you’ve always drooled over stylish homes pictured in glossy magazines then wrung your hands in dismay after coming back down to earth and looking around you, you may well need these five top tricks to bring some style into your own home no matter what size it is or who lives there. Lose the clutter! The first thing to do is declutter. Make sure you have plenty of good, well-thought out storage to keep everyday items close to hand but safely out of the way. There are some very pretty boxes on the market which can be popped under beds or sofas and on top of cupboards without ruining the look of a room. Think about displays Shelves and mantelpieces benefit from carefully arranged accessories of different heights. Candles, framed prints and decorative items can be combined to complement and complete the look of a room. Clever with colour Choose an accent colour from the curtains, cushions and bedding and pick out accessories in complementary tones. Don’t forget a contrasting colour can also work, try grey with yellow or turquoise with pink for example. Break and soften Add colour to a plain bathroom or break up an expanse of monotonous kitchen units with texture and soft furnishings. Stylish tea towels of bathroom towels in a different shade could be all you need to turn it from dull to dramatic. Say it with flowers A bunch of flowers can create a focal point and lift a room. If you’re really not the floral type, a handful of decorative branches of twigs in a vintage-style milk bottle or modern vase can work perfectly.
Keep your towels softer for longer THERE’S nothing worse, particularly in Spain where they see a lot more use during the summer than elsewhere, than stepping out of the shower or climbing out of the pool and drying off with a towel like sandpaper. Luxurious feeling fluffy towels depend not just on their quality but also on how they’re cared for, and a lot of us are killing the fluffy feel ourselves without really realizing it. Hotel laundry staff use the following tips to help towels last longer: - A good shake before they go into the washing machine opens up the fibres a little which helps detergents sink into the material. - Specific detergents with softening properties are used in hard water areas to stop the texture going harsh. - Fabric conditioner is used sparingly. Although it improves the smell and softness, too much will stick to fibres, making them lose absorbency and eventually fall out. - Whenever possible towels should be hung out to dry in fresh air and only given a quick spin in the tumble dryer to fluff them up. Strange as it may sound, a tennis ball or two should always go in the dryer with towels to aid the fluffing process.

Huawei's Honor 6X Is a Sleek and Affordable DualCamera Smartphone Last year, the Honor 5X by Huawei shook up the affordable smartphone scene by bringing high-end features such as a metal body and fingerprint scanner. With the device’s successor, Honor 6X, the Chinese tech giant continues the trend by introducing a dual-camera sensor, more powerful hardware, and a bigger battery into a sleeker and more compact body. The Honor 6X has retained the restrained design language of its predecessor, but it is considerably sleeker. Once again, the manufacturer wants you to focus on the device’s metal body and large display. That said, the phone looks good in the metal, though also a tad generic.

How to Add a Printer to Windows 10
Most printers are connected to PCs with a USB port and often work as soon as soon as you plug them in (and many work wirelessly!). A new printer may also come with a driver disc. Here’s how to add a printer to Windows 10: Sign-in or log on to your Windows 10 computer with an administrator account. Connect your printing device to the PC. Click the Start button from the desktop screen. From the Start menu, click Settings. On the SETTINGS window, click Devices. Once the DEVICES window opens up, from the left pane, make sure that the Printers & scanners category is selected. From the right pane, under the Add printers & scanners section, click Add a printer or scanner. Wait while Windows searches for the connected printer.Note: If Windows finds the printer, you can click its name and can follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.
radio button. Click Next to continue. On the Choose a printer port window, leave the default options selected and click Next. Note: If you are an advanced user, you can also choose a different option from the Use an existing port drop-down list, or you can define your own port by selecting the Create a new port radio button and specifying your custom port in the enabled field before clicking Next.
If Windows cannot detect the connected printer, click the The printer that I want isn’t listed link.
On the Install the printer driver window, from the displayed list of printer manufacturers in the left section, click to select the one to which the connected printer belongs. From the right section, locate and click to select the specific model of the printer that is connected to the PC.Note: At this point, you can also click the Have Disk button and browse and locate the driver for the connected printer if you have downloaded it manually from its official website. Click Next to proceed to the next step.
On the Find a printer with other options window, click to select the Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings
On the Type a printer name window, in the Printer name field, type an informative name for the printer and click Next.
On the Printer Sharing window, make sure that the Share this printer so that others on the network can find and use it radio button is selected.Note: If you do not want to share the printer with the network users, you can select the Do not share this printer radio button and jump to step 20. In the Share name field, type a short share name for the printer. Note: The name you specify here will be displayed to the remote users when they search for this printer over the network. Optionally you can populate the Location and Comment fields with your preferred information. Click Next to continue. On the final page of the wizard, click the Print a test page button to check the connectivity and proper functioning of the printer. (Optional) Click Finish to complete the process.

motoring
By Mathew Elliot
Road safety or robot apocalypse? Autonomous Car: Would you be comfortable on the roads with one? WOULD you trust an autonomous car? That was the question put to British motorists in a wide ranging survey and the answer was a resounding no. The behavioural scientists behind the research found out what anyone probably could have guessed – people don’t really trust machines, especially new-fangled ones zooming them along a packed motorway at 80mph surrounded by thousands of other ‘self-aware’ motorised computers. Almost seven in ten said that people should be in control of their cars at all times, while more than half said they would feel uncomfortable even sharing the road with an autonomous vehicle. Aside from latent fears of a robot apocalypse the main reason given was that the self driving cars would simply lack the common sense needed on the roads, where human error is frequent and it’s essential to be able to take quick instinctive action to avoid a crash. People also wondered what would happen in the event of a technical malfunction and thought the flow of cars would be very difficult for a machine to judge.
Look out Geneva! The 2017 Geneva Motor Show will no doubt feature many mouth-watering at eye-watering prices, but the street-legal Glickenhaus hypercar will be one of the top drawers. Capable of a speed in excess of 215mph (350kmh), the Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus SCG003S, is a car for the very purest purist. Horses are likely to be 750-plus from a 4.4-litre twin turbocharged motor with the carbon-fibre body built in Italy by Manifattura Automobil in Torino. If you fancy one, a price tag of $1.3m equates to €1.180m and that´s just for starters. The price tag is also matched by its rarity – the company plan to manufacture only ten! If you’ve got that kind of money to spare, Geneva next March could be the place to take your cheque book.
Bengala
More Ferrari By Matthew Elliott BENGALA has pledged to make a carbon fibre conversion for the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. It will be the first project from the Spanish tuner’s new ‘privilege program’ and come as part of a very select few examples numbering just ten. One F12 Caballeria has already been crafted by the boutique design firm based in Madrid which claims all the planned F12 conversions will be complete by next summer. The body of the custom F12 is entirely composed of carbon fibre and has been hailed as ‘adding more Ferrari to the Ferrari’.

Italian stallion
by Matthew Elliott ALFA ROMEO has come out of the woodwork as Italian brand’s protracted comeback continues. And where else to make a splash than the luxurious SUV market which is thriving in the States and growing steadily in Europe? The 2018 Stelvio is named after the Stelvio Pass in the Alps, reportedly one of the world’s most gorgeous roads to drive down, and couples Alfa’s distinct design heritage with a modern powerhouse. With more than 500hp it can reach 60mph from a standstill in 3.9 seconds with a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine and up to 20-inch wheels. A revamped infotainment system offers Apple CarPlay and a semi-intelligent cruise control system that screams warnings at any impending doom on the roads.
2017 Mazda CX-3 This is the best subcompact crossover for you if styling and sportiness mean more to you than utility. Introduced for model-year 2016, the CX-3 belongs to a booming new segment of SUVs smaller and less expensive than compact-class crossovers such as the Honda CR-V or Mazda’s own CX-5. The CX-3 is the most stylish entry in the class, and arguably the most fun to drive. For its sophomore season there are a couple new paint colors, new standard features for the most popular trim level, and a price reduction for an option package that delivers some desirable safety gear.

Where is the Apple iCar? By Matthew Elliott ONE giant apple-shaped elephant in the showroom is the heavily anticipated, inevitable and yet shrouded in mystery arrival of tech giant Apple into the motoring industry. There has been no official statement of intent from the Silicon Valley masterminds behind the iPhone over whether an iCar is on the horizon any time soon but the suspicions of potential competitors are certainly being aroused. Apple has already poached more than 1,000 engineers from top firms in the motoring world, including former Aston Martin and Tesla brainiac Chris Porritt. It has bought several enormous sites in California and Germany for research and development and registered the domain names apple.car and apple.auto and has reportedly been in talks to buy McLaren. What impact an iCar has on the motoring market is impossible to tell but its likely rivals will not be traditional manufacturing powerhouses like BMW and Audi. Instead it’s enormous hundred billion dollar plus budget will probably be aimed squarely at competitors in the tech world, namely Google and Tesla. Given Apple’s niche is innovation the iCar will almost certainly be a self-driving electric vehicle with a groundbreaking infotainment system linked through the Cloud to other gadgets such as its iPhone and Mac computer.

Torrevieja Swimming Club TORREVIEJA SWIMMERS were in action this weekend in the ‘4th Time Control’ of the season, an opportunity for regional swimmers to earn autonomous and national qualifying times. The Municipal pool in Torrevieja hosted the day’s events for 14 of the region’s clubs. For Torrevieja swimmers it was a day of unusual races as many of the team’s girls faced racing against each other in the same heats, which doesn’t happen very often. In the 400m Freestyle event, Paula Garcia, Zoe Connolly and Piroska Rideg stood side by side, nerves racing and ready for the 400m challenge. On the day Zoe came in first followed by Piroska, Paula and team mate Vicky in a previous series. Other good swims for the day were Vicky Pignuer in the 100m and 200m Backstroke, Zoe in the 100m Breaststroke and 200m Medley and Piroska in her 1500m, 800m Freestyle. Continuing on this positive theme Alexandra had a good swim in her 50m Breastroke and Skye Burns in her 100m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle races. Paula and Louise also swam well and all the girls had two good relay events, the 4 x 50m Medley and the 4 x 50m Freestyle. The team were placed 3rd and 4th in these races. With a slightly depleted male side of the team, Elian Del Rio Castillo and Yuriy Lymar both had good swims. Yuriy in the 50m, 100m and 200m Freestyle races and Elian in the 200m Medley 100m Butterfly and 100m Freestyle events. Elian, Zoe, Paula and Vicky all gained new Autonomous qualifying times for the Winter Regional Championships in Castellon on 7th and 8th March. 8 Ball Leisure Quesada Pool League report WEEK 19 was the start of the second half of the season and featured the reverse matches from last week. Four out of the six matches had different winners to last week, with only the two Green Baize teams managing to win their games on both weeks! Green Baize Amigos were obviously in the mood this week, after a very narrow 5-4 win last week against Booking Pub, as they had a comprehensive 9-0 win against the same opponents. Shenanigans Shakers reversed their loss last week against Mr Sniffs to win 7-2 this week and with Bar Pepito again having a bye, the Shakers and the Amigos have stretched their lead at the top of the league. Green Baize Minis won 7-2 against Bull Flanagan for the second week in a row. Both Monos A, who had a 7-2 win over Coopers Arms, and Rayz Bar, who this week won 5-4 against Shenanigans Movers, reversed losses from last week. The recent good run of results from Monos B came to an end against The Tavern with a 6-3 loss. For more details please visit www.quesada-pool.com
Trumping it! Thrilling Bridge matches The latest in a series of Contract Bridge ´International Matches´ involving 32 players from Camposol Bridge Club (CBC) and Mazarron Bay Bridge Club (MBBC) took place at the Playa Grande Hotel, Puerto de Mazarron, Monday February 13. Some would say only the finest local players were selected, others would say the teams were made up of whoever was around at the time. Last year’s winners were Team England. Owing to reasons too convoluted, and maybe too tedious to explain, this year’s match was billed as ´GB+1´ versus `Rest of Europe+1´. At stake was the ´Jean Boone Cup’ named
in honour of a local bridge legend who unfortunately was unable to participate in this year’s competition. The first two thirds of the match did not go well for ‘Team Europe+1,’which no amount of caffeine or bravado could reverse. However, Team GB´s lead was eventually eroded to give the Europeans victory by 214 imps to186 and fortunately there were a couple of experts on hand who understood what ´imps´ were. Note: If you are interested in playing bridge in a social yet challenging environment, Google ´Camposol Bridge Club´ and / or ´Mazarron Bay Bridge Club´ for further details.
