KIOSK: INSPIRED BY PHILIPPE STARCK Typical Newspaper Stand
Designed with inspirations stemming from Philippe Starck. A playfully political designer that tends to take historical elements and add a modern funky twist to them. With these inspirations of design it lead to a funky design for the busy streets of New York City. Inspired by the beauty the city posseses with it’s skyhigh buildings relinquishing anyview beyond its concrete aesthetics. I began by designing a kiosk from recycled wood that has vertical shelves tapering off into a fun energetic placement to relate to the cities skyscraper flooding every street, but not being too reflective. Adding irregularities to the shelf placement was a hip modern twist on the typical newspaper stand occupying the streets of New York City. Leaving the sides of the kiosk exposed to light with transpaprent glazing to exposed shadows within the kiosk to add to the overall design aesthetic.
A Typical newspaper stand in New York has a tendency to be extremely cluttered with no area to sit, lean or stand. The Purpose of most of these kiosks are to buy your paper or magazine and move on. Leading to a kiosk designed to intentionally involve the customer in a very different way than the city norm. In relation to Starck’s Maga Shelter designed to involve the hotel guest’s in a more interactive way.
PLAN: 13’ 0”

Kiosk passable through both the Southern and Northern ends of the Kiosk. Allows for a quicker on the go purchase for busy New Yorkers and a more interactive social space for those with time to spare and want to sit and enjoy. With an overall dimension of 10’-0” by 13’-0” this kiosk could be placed on most busy sidewalks without overcrowding the space

Prefab Site plan Prospect Heights, Santa Cruz, CA 7,000 Sq. foot lot 1,500 Sq. foot Prefabricated home
Designing a Prefab home on a large 7,000 Square foot lot that can accomidate a family of three and a home office occupying 500 feet of the home. Jason and Angeline Christenson and their daughter Camila have a love for the large property they have purchased so they didn’t want their new home to occupy the entire lot and not get to enjoy the trees and peaceful attmosphere. The family has one large dog that enjoys playing ball and chasing around the three year old daughter so the house has a deck off the main level from the kitchen over looking the backyard as well as a rooftop deck accessed from the parents master bedroom. This prefab was designed to fullfill the needs of Angelines home bussiness and the heavy traffic and personal needs for an active young family. Husband Jason enjoys cooking and BBQing in the large kitchen and patio equipped with all the BBQing needs while the home office can act as a spare bedroom with a fold out couch and home gym for those long and painful conference calls during work hours. This house was designed in a layered form to allow for each level to be seperate and get more personal the higher you get.

LEVEL 2: LIVING/SOCIAL After multiple trial layouts the final floor plans were designed as follows: 1,500 SQ. feet composed of a home office and family dwelling. Stacked upon eachother to separate each level to be intricate of itself. An office level on the ground floor for reception of guests and clients, a living/social level for the family and conferences if needed, and a living/private level for the family to keep there personal space separate from the rest of the social dwelling.

Part I: PAPER Working in teams of two a design must be drawn from a microscopic form or interesting organism. Finding interesting photos of mushroom veils and photoshopping colors and filters, two wall paper designs derived from what would once look like a part of a plant and fungi familia into a beautiful 3D design used for wallpaper in a future project.

such intricate beauty along the narrow curviliear underside of an oyster mushroom a design for a pendant light was created. With its natural separation like the mushroom veil it would put off a spectatuclar light ray and create shadows much like the wallpaper to introduce a playful movement along the spaces walls.

Designing further into the concept of mushroom veils, but now creating an object of tessalation. With forms created from the mushroom veil the tessalation would become a tile for the future hotel project. The tiles were designed to show of the never repetitive form the veil possess but the ontricate wave you would see from the underside of the fungus. The tiles were then printed in 3D form from walnut dust/wood particles at SJSU’s Interior Design Programs’ 3D printing facilities.
