God’s Pantry

A DIRECT DISTRIBUTION OF FOOD IN ROWAN COUNTY


The Morning Arrival

9:30 AM God's Pantry Food Bank of Lexington delivers 12,881 pounds of food to the Johnson First Church Of God in Morehead Last Tuesday. This was the first of many direct distributions of food to Rowan County. Volunteer driver Mike Meadows, who is retired from UPS, helped unload the provisions that were handed out to Rowan County residence at noon.

Unpacking Pallets

As the pallets of food roll in, volunteers begin unpacking and setting for client distribution.

The hungry seldom receive an opportunity to bring home desserts such as these. Quite a treat for the clients.

Preparation And Paperwork

Ronnie Workman and Ginger Hatfield, who helps organize the Johnson First Church Of God's weekly food pantry activities, surveys the progress as church volunteers unpack pallets of foods in the Lovely Center activity hall.

This pallet of can goods would not come thru the door.

A variety of fresh bread products were included in the 12,881 pounds of food that was delivered to the Lovely Center for distribution.

Fresh Produce

STRAWBERRIES, CABBAGE, POTATOES

Each client received fresh produce including a full flat of Dole strawberries, three heads of cabbage and and a bag of potatoes.

Meat Department Frozen meats included; smoked sausage, pork ribs, sliced ham, turkey breasts, pork shoulder, angus beef, ground chuck, and chicken.

Over 600 pounds of frozen meat and 144 10-pound bags of chicken were included in the God's Pantry direct distribution. Johnson Church members Steve Mayhorn and Dolly Wood unpack a pallet of meat in expectation of client arrivals. Ann Litton and Samra Evans work in the background.

Quality Selection Of Food

Chuck Young, a God’s Pantry representative, works along side Eddie Ramey and other church volunteers as the Lovely Center begins to fill with foods.

Clients Fill Their Boxes

Children volunteers Riley Givens and his sister Avery work giving clients can goods. The children were snowed out of school. Clients soon began filling their boxes. The God's Pantry Food Bank direct distribution event helped supplement 150 Rowan County families with needed food including breads, juices, can goods, crackers, pasta, meat and chicken, fresh produce, milk, and desserts. The Johnson First Church of God will be hosting the direct distribution from God's Pantry on the fourth Tuesday of the month from noon to 4:00 pm.. First come first serve until the food is gone.
