Candidate for Alderwoman Evanston’s 2nd Ward

Darlene is a public servant and community organizer in the 2nd Ward, with a passion both for directly helping those in immediate need and for changing existing systems of power to center marginalized voices.

Currently Darlene leads and advocates in various spaces that have direct positive outcomes for both community members and democracy. Below are some of her current roles and engagements:

Co-founder and Executive Director of Feeding the Village Evanston, a not-for-profit grassroots community organization that was born out of food insecurities as a result of COVID-19

Board member of both the Democratic Party of Evanston, and the Evanston Community Lake & Garden.

Core member of Reclaim Evanston, an extension of The People’s Lobby

Founding member of Evanston United, Robert Crown Accountability Previous committee chair of the Evanston Voter initiative

Despite not having a seat on council, Darlene has spent much of her life ensuring accountability and transparency at the city level and is a known and sought community organizer and local leader. Darlene has organized and advocated for: equitable housing, transparent zoning and development, racial and class equity, taxes that do not burden minority and working class people, environmental justice and helping facilitate Northwestern University a fair share partner. Darlene’s accomplishments have inspired people to think about impact and being changemakers in their direct communities. Her work is contingent on open dialogue, community perspective, and she is energized around ideas of equity and ensuring policies meet the needs of the majority and not the desires of the few.
