Solace in the Streetwear is designed to celebrate two of streetwear culture’s classic favourite brands, presented to you in a new and exciting way. Streetwear stores themselves can sometimes be uninviting or intimidating places to shop. Solace in the Streetwear aims to be just the opposite: an interactive, welcoming and inclusive space for streetwear fans both new and existing. Following the journies of two ground-breaking brands, the space will feel as though you are wandering through a retail store, whilst learning about their history at the same time.

White Cube Gallery London is a simple, open space that we felt could mimick a shop floor really successfully. It’s airy and spacious, similar to a lot of Stüssy and Carhartt’s stores. You will be able to navigate yourself via the black arrowed way-finding stickers, visually travelling through each brand’s history (and shopping, if you fancy). However, unlike your conventional gallery space, the information will be presented on clothing tags, embroidered garments, receipts, tote bags and more, all designed by the two brands themselves, as well as selected guest artists.

olace hstreetwear’ is designed to shine streetwear under a new light in both retail and exhibition spaces.
‘Stüssy’s official launch date is anything but concrete. Don Letts, the musician, filmmaker and OG-affiliate of the brand says it all started in 1984, but Shawn Stüssy first remembers scratching his infamous punky scrawl in 1979. Without an official logo, per se, Shawn was making surfboards and branding them with a signature scribble -- a practice that, though he was unaware at the time, teemed with potential. He later applied it to T-shirts, earned cult acclaim, and a few years down the line, what is arguably the original street wear brand was in business.’ - Interview with i-D magazine.

‘Carhartt holds a legacy that spans over 100 years, from supplying apparel to the vital workmen who helped shape America to dressing some of the biggest Hip Hop figures. Since its early years of making overalls constructed only from denim and brown duck canvas, Carhartt has been dedicated to providing apparel tailored to meet the highest standards of quality, durability and comfort. Carhartt’s encapsulating story begins all the way back in 1882, when Hamilton Carhartt left school to start a wholesale furniture business. Despite the idea initially failing, Carhartt refused to give up and decided to ask rail workers what they were looking for in garments. Using this as a template for his designs, Carhartt went on to produce honest workwear pieces that ticked all the boxes and from then on the company never looked back.’
