Olive Oil & Eulogies
Moaning hinges, screen slams, sunlight shards on terracotta, Nonna hunched, a mountain in a fl
Slapping dough, muttering prayers under her breath, garlic perfume
Clinging to the air like incense. Uncle Nino grumbles news, Spits olive pits in the chipped enamel colander, Face creased with the map of a life spent squinting at sun
Across endless rows of gnarled olive trees.
Vincenzo, my cousin, all elbows and teenage scowl, Plucks fat green olives, slings them at the chipped plaster saint
Above the stove, a rebellion veiled by boredom. His mamma scolds, a whirlwind of A tempest in a teapot of simmering ragu.
They argue, a symphony in broken Italian, Their voices a chorus echoing off the worn stone walls. This kitchen, a stage for the same acts, night after night, Love and frustration bubbling in the same pot.
I sip on a glass of inky red, the tang cutting through The thick air, heavy with the weight of unspoken things.
Nonna's hands, gnarled like the olive branches outside, Move with practiced grace, a lifetime of kneading etched in the lines.
This scene, a snapshot, a million others before it, Imperfect, beautiful, like a cracked heirloom plate. We fight, we laugh, we eat, the cycle spins, relentless. The scent of garlic and simmering tomatoes, a lullaby of sorts.
Because even as the plaster crumbles and the arguments
There's a comfort in the chaos, a messy love that binds.
Underneath the shouts and olive-spitting rebellion, A fierce loyalty, a shared history simmering in the ragu.
In this kitchen, time stretches, expands, contracts, The past clinging to the floorboards, the future a question mark
Scrawled on the steamy windowpane. We are all ingredients In this stew, simmering together, a bitter herb, a dash of hope.
And as Nonna sets the table, a crooked smile on her face, The clinking of forks a benediction, a temporary truce, I know this night, like this kitchen, will crack and splinter, But the love, the memory, will linger, a ghost in the olive oil.

O solitary Door! Portal of plank and brass, You stand a rectangle against the mountain vast, A frame of man's design, a hold against the sky, Where wild winds cry and soaring eagles fly.
The Mountain, stoic giant, sleeps in sunlit gown, A granite titan, anchored to the ground.
Its slopes a canvas, painted green and brown, A perfect form, where peace and silence drown
The restless world. The mountain's heart is stone, Yet cradles life in every verdant zone.
A silent teacher, lessons yet unknown, Whispered in the rustle, where the wild things roam.
The Sun, a blazing orb, a circle in the blue, Pours down its light, eternal, vast, and true. It paints the mountain's face with hues anew, And bathes the door in warmth, a golden hue.
These shapes, these forms, a harmony unfold, Man's crafted line, the mountain stark and old, The sun's bright circle, a story yet untold, A timeless peace, a mystery to behold.
No need for words, the message clear and bright, A balance struck, between the dark and light. The door, a promise, the mountain, endless might, The sun, a constant, banishing the night.
Here, in this scene, a truth begins to rise, A simple beauty, that fills the soul with sighs. No struggle here, no battles fought with lies, Just steadfast presence, beneath the boundless skies.
So let us stand in silence, at this sacred gate, And drink in deep the peace, ere shadows fall too late.
The door, the mountain, sun, a cosmic weight, A timeless emblem, of a love that cannot wait.

The whitewash gleams, a summer postcard scene, This Moughins villa, bougainvillea bright, Cicadas chirp, a drowsy afternoon, And laughter spills from windows, warm and light.
A girl with braids, all olive skin and grin, Teeters on heels too high for her young stride, A boy, all gangly arms and hopeful chin, Fumbles with blooms, trying hard to hide
His pounding heart, a drum in summer's heat. They share a joke, a secret whispered low, Innocence hangs heavy, bittersweet, A future vast, where possibilities
But shadows lurk beneath the vibrant sky, A fleeting doubt, a question in her eyes. Will summer's Will whispered dreams survive as autumn sighs?
The cicadas keep singing, unconcerned, Oblivious to worries yet to come. The weight of time, a lesson yet unlearned, Of love's sweet dance, and hearts that beat like drums.
They stand, a tableau bathed in golden light, Youth's tapestry, with threads of joy and fear. This perfect scene, a summer's brief delight, A taste of forever, whispered in her ear.

Squares of chalk upon the cracked concrete, Tic-tac-toe, a childhood ritual sweet.
X's and O's, a battle black and white, Simple strategy, a winner takes the night.
But hold on, child, don't let the lines deceive, This ain't no playground, life's a game you can't achieve.
The board ain't flat, it tilts on unseen ground, And sometimes, brother, even winners can be drowned.
Your X, so bold, might crumble in the sun,
The O you chase, might vanish when the day is done.
The lines we draw, the plans we make with care, Can twist and turn, leave burdens hard to bear.
So play your game, but listen to the breeze, It whispers secrets 'bout the shifting seas.
The squares of life ain't always fair and square, But keep your head up, even when the odds ain't there.
'Cause even X's that lose can leave a mark, A reminder etched in the dusty park.
The game ain't over, the lines ain't set in stone, Keep movin', brother, 'cause life plays on its own.
So grab that chalk, don't let the doubts take hold, This game of life, a story yet untold.
Draw your X's strong, with a fire in your soul, And learn to win, even when the pieces roll.

In the labyrinth of human thought, we find, A perpetual motion, a ceaseless grind, Invention's dance, a relentless chore, Man's power to create, forevermore.
Yet, in this realm of endless creation, Lie complexities, veiled in fascination, For with each stroke of inventive might, Emerges shadows, casting doubt's blight.
The power to imagine, to shape, to mold, Brings forth wonders, yet tales untold, For within the gears of the mind's machine, Lurk complexities, unforeseen.
As man wields his tools of innovation, He navigates a maze of fabrication, Unraveling truths, yet weaving lies, Caught in the web where power lies.
The perpetual motion, a paradox profound, Where creation and destruction abound, For in the realm of man's inventive spree, Lie complexities, vast as the sea.
So let us ponder, let us reflect, On the power we wield, and its effect, For with each invention, a world anew, But do complexities obscure our view?
In Foucauldian echoes, we hear the call, To question the power that drives us all, For in the dance of creation's sway, Complexities lurk, night and day.

In Bauhaus lines, a period's breath, An era's essence, a dance of death, Where form meets function, sleek and austere, Yet within its walls, whispers sear.
Amidst the angularity of design, A couple tangled, a love entwined, An artist and his muse, they sway, In shadows cast by the light of day.
She, his canvas, his inspiration's flame, He, her brush, tracing lines of fame, But beneath the surface, doubts do creep, As secrets linger, and truths they keep.
For life's decisions, weighty and vast, Echo through the halls, a haunting blast, Do they share intimacy, pure and true, Or a fantasy, a lie, between the two?
In Bauhaus rooms, where angles meet, Their love's geometry, incomplete, For as they ponder, decisions dire, Their hearts' desires flicker, then expire.
And so they dance, in shadows deep, Where truth and falsehood gently sweep, In Bauhaus design, a period's tale, Of love's complexities, they unveil.

Amidst the hushed atelier's twilight gleam, A woman stands, a figure in a dream, Pose she does, for the master's skilled hand, Yet veiled is she, in enigma's command.
In silken robes, she bears a solemn grace, But who is she, in this tranquil space?
A wife, perhaps, with burdens deep and sore, Or a soul who seeks escape forevermore.
Does she bear children, laughter in her keep?
Or does sorrow's shadow o'er her weep?
Behind her eyes, a universe unfurled, Yet to the artist, she's but a fleeting world.
Captured in strokes of tender artistry, Her beauty blooms in the canvas' tapestry, But the bond they share, a shallow veneer, For in truth, their connection is unclear.
In the realm of beauty, they find solace sweet, Where purity reigns, and complexities retreat, In form and feature, they find fleeting truth, In the artist's gaze, and the woman's youth.
So let them dwell in this realm divine, Where beauty's simplicity intertwines, For in the artful dance of light and shade, They find respite from life's masquerade.
