YOU’RE INVITED TO PARTY! Friday, September 16, 2016, 7pm

EVERGREEN It’s our 20th Anniversary as the premiere theatre and entertainment venue in the Tri-Cities. Come celebrate this milestone and kick off our new season with a dance party featuring SweetPea Swing Band and Rock/Blues/R&B masters Brickhouse. You can celebrate all the fun and excitement of the last 20 years for just for $20! Visit evergreenculturalcentre.ca/seasonlaunch for more details!

WELCOME TO EVERGREEN’S 2016/2017 SEASON It is my great pleasure to announce the 20th season at the Evergreen Cultural Centre! Hard to believe that it was 20 years ago, in 1996, that the doors opened to this wonderful facility, paving the way to a vibrant arts and culture scene at the Evergreen. This is a very exciting year in Coquitlam as well, as we celebrate Coquitlam’s 125th anniversary. There is great anticipation with regards to continued development of Arts and Culture in the cityand we are excited to be part of the celebrations! There are many people to thank for the continued success of the Evergreen Cultural Centre for the past 20 years. There are so many staff and hundreds of volunteers at the Evergreen throughout the two decades who have worked tirelessly to provide the programming and environment that is so very welcoming. In addition, the multitude of arts partners who have produced and/or presented shows and programs, leaving lasting legacies and experiences, are invaluable contributors to the on-going success of the Centre. Most importantly, we must thank the citizens of Coquitlam for continuing to support the programming at the Evergreen and believe that Arts and Culture is an integral component of a healthy and vibrant community. On September 16th we celebrate this milestone with an anniversary bash that will be talked about for years to come. But if you can’t join us that evening, we have so many great theatre, music, dance and comedy performances throughout the year for you to choose from! As well, there are exciting exhibitions to explore in our Art Gallery and adventurous Visual and Performing Arts programs to attend all year long. Happy Birthday Evergreen! See you at the Centre!

CELEBRATING OUR 20 YEAR ANNIVERSARY! We all love an excuse to celebrate, and this season we have lots of them! 2016 is of course Coquitlam’s 125th and we are celebrating that with two officially sanctioned Coquitlam 125 events in September: Flotsam and Jetsam: Life on the West Coast by the Other Guys Theatre and Coquitlam Rises! an original theatrical production written and directed by our own Mandy Tulloch featuring a local cast of 35. Flotsam and Jetsam is a multimedia folk music revue featuring original and adapted songs and stories focusing on the history and lifestyle of the west coast in general, whereas Coquitlam Rises! will bring to life the history and culture of Coquitlam through theatre, music, dance and even martial arts! 2017 is Canada’s 150th and we are celebrating that with performances by The Canadian Guitar Quartet and a special program devised for Canada’s birthday: Ballet Kelowna’s 150 Moves: A Celebration of Canadian Dance. This is also Evergreen’s 20th Anniversary Season and we will be kicking off with a dance party featuring SweetPea Swing Band and Rock/Blues/R&B masters Brickhouse. And in honour of Black History Month in February, we present an acclaimed production about one of the greatest singers America ever produced – and then exiled for his political activities: Paul Robeson. Nigerian-born British opera and theatre star Tayo Aluko stars in Call Mr. Robeson: A Life With Songs. Naturally, every new season is something to celebrate, and this year there is no shortage of great performances to choose from. Create your own celebration!
