BE ENTERTAINED ALL YEAR WITH OUR MOST SPECTACULAR SEASON TO DATE! I believe that every time you step through the doors of our Studio Theatre you should experience something special. In putting together our annual season, I try to create varied and interesting experiences for you, balancing artistic disciplines and styles and mixing the “triedand-true” with the “exciting-and-new”. I think you’ll find that our 2015/2016 season provides both the comfort of the familiar and the thrill of new discovery. You’ll encounter old friends: Lorne Elliott; Valdy and Gary Fjellgaard; Quiring Chamber Players; Norman Foote and the Arts Club’s Red Rock Diner. Lisa Brokop returns with a new concert, The Patsy Cline Project. But there are also plenty of new discoveries to be made: two all female Comedy Cabarets; an evening of dance featuring modern (Dancers Dancing) and tap (Danny Nielsen); Boston world music group Guy Mendilow Ensemble; roots music sensation Jayme Stone: The Lomax Project; and country vocal/fiddle supertrio Belle Starr to name but a few. And of course both the Theatre Series and Indie Series feature the best of new and recent theatre productions. It’s a special thrill to announce two new partnerships with Vancouver professional dance companies this season: MACHiNENOiSY which will offer a creative residency and performance with local youth; and NewWorks which will bring us a performance and public workshop as part of their Dance Allsorts Series. This is only the tip of the iceberg; there’s plenty more for you to discover at Evergreen. And we are making it as easy and affordable as possible to pick and choose packages of shows. So please check out all the Series Subscriptions and 3 Plus Packs available and experience the inspiring diversity of performing arts!

David Mann Performing Arts Manager

A note regarding the new series’ at the Evergreen: We have compiled your favourites into specific series (example: Comedy, Music, etc) and colours to create a seamless search of the performances you want to see.

Canadian born Lorne Elliott has performed from Newfoundland to New York City, from Los Angeles to Australia and points in between. Lorne started performing in 1974 as a folk musician in East Coast Canada. At the same time he kept writing fiction as well as songs, monologues and one-liners. The outcome of such a training is a very special show of comedy and music, totally original, entertaining, foolish and uplifting. Along with his unique performance style it is the timelessness of his material, joined with keen observations on today’s trends that make Lorne Elliott ‘s work so special.

Like many Lord of the Rings™ fans, Canadian actor, playwright and selfproclaimed ‘professional geek’, Charles Ross fell in love with Tolkein’s trilogy at an early age. When it was announced that Peter Jackson would adapt the stories for film, he was again among many who felt excitement and worry about the film (would he screw it up? would someone stupid play Gandalf?) Thankfully no, and no. After the success of his One Man Star Wars Trilogy, people asked him what he would tackle next. He didn’t even blink. Based on the literature of J.R.R. Tolkien and produced with permission of The Saul Zaentz Company d/b/a Middle-earth Enterprises f/k/a Tolkien Enterprises, Berkley, CA. “The Lord of the Rings,” “The Fellowship of the Ring,” “The Two Towers,” are trademarks or registered trademarks of The Saul Zaentz Company d/b/a Middle-earth Enterprises”.

THE FINE LINE ~ twisted angels explores in movement, sound and image how we experience, perceive, relate to and react to both our internal and external worlds. Ephemeral, sometimes transformative, the moments between perceiving, sensing, and cognition create a rich tapestry of somatic images. The work engages with the fragility of our existence and risks the deep and dark journeys necessary to project the internal experience directly onto the stage. With choreography by Judith Garay and performances by Vanessa Goodman, Bevin Poole and Antonio Somera, The Fine Line ~ twisted angels will infuse the Evergreen with sensation and perception.

Danny Nielsen is one of Canada’s brightest rising tap talents. He has performed in Europe, South America, and all over Canada and the United States. Accompanied by live music, Danny showcases tap dance as a percussive and musical art form as he melds with the musician. Combining the talents of these two acts will leave you mesmerized and mind blown.

WHAT IT’S ABOUT

Pete Seeger was a folk singer, political activist and a key figure in the American folk music revival. Mark Hellman is Pete Seeger in the Other Guys Theatre Company adaptation of Seeger’s The Incompleat Folksinger. He sang in defense of the poor, the oppressed and the exploited; always to enliven and encourage, to delight, and to tell tales. Through his own words and music (and Mark Hellman’s inspiring performance) share Seeger’s stories, his battles and his favourite songs.

WHY YOU’LL WANT TO SEE IT

This one-man show featuring Mark Hellman premiered in Victoria this past January and had people singing along throughout the show. The stories and commentary are based on Pete Seeger’s own words from his book The Incompleat Folksinger, and the many songs are favourites that became synonymous with Pete Seeger as a performer.

A good song reminds us what we’re fighting for... You will be moved to your feet with the inspiring lyrics of Seeger’s music!

Late Company

Touchstone Theatre By Jordan Tannahill March 29 - April 2, 2016, 8pm + 4pm Saturday Pre-Show Chat Mar 29 | Talk Back Mar 31

One year after a tragedy, two couples sit down to dinner. Far from finding the closure they seek, the dinner strips bare their good intentions to reveal the layers of hypocrisy beneath. A funny and moving exploration of a hot button issue, rendered in dynamic dialogue by an exciting young playwright. Touchstone’s hit production, directed by Katrina Dunn, features an innovative design and riveting performance from some of Vancouver’s finest actors.

WHY YOU’LL WANT TO SEE IT

If it takes a village to raise a child, then who’s to blame when one falls by the wayside? That’s the question lurking at the heart of Jordan Tannahill’s searing, unforgettable drama. From one of Canada’s most promising young playwrights, winner of the 2014 Governor General’s Award for Drama and the John Hirsch Award, comes a new play where there are no easy answers to be found; only the shattered realities of two families struggling to put a terrible ordeal in the past.

Til Death by Ryan Gladstone No Tweed Too Tight by Ryan Gladstone and Bruce Horak

Til Death & No Tweed Too Tight

February 25-27, 2016, 8pm WHAT IT’S ABOUT Til Death opens in the afterlife, in a bizzare waiting room where, one by one, the wives of Henry VIII arrive - much to the shock and dismay of each previous wife! What culminates is a heated frenzy of an ex-wives club where these women swap stories, toss Anne Boleyn’s head around, pick on the ugly German one, and, most importantly, fight for the right to be acknowledged as Henry’s true bride and eternal partner. In No Tweed to Tight - Another Grant Canyon Mystery, Grant Canyon is a perpetually inebriated insurance investigator. Every scene starts with him coming to consciousness in a new place (on an airplane with no pilots, on a Russian sub, getting buried alive…) and every scene ends with him either getting knocked out or drinking himself into oblivion.
