ABOUT ROYCE RICH

Royce Rich is establishing himself as one of Canada’s up-and-coming concert instrumentalists. In July 2021, he was listed as one of CBC Music’s “Top 30 Under 30 Hot Canadian Musicians” for the release of his debut studio album entitled Short Stories. In July 2015, Royce was awarded the coveted Gabora Prize in Italy at the Casalmaggiore International Festival, and has since appeared on concert stages as a solo artist and chamber musician across Canada, the USA, Italy, and Germany. He has performed as guest artist with the Brampton Symphony Orchestra, Lions Gate Sinfonia Orchestra, Durham Chamber Orchestra, Smazal Chamber Orchestra, and twice with the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Royce’s violin students have graduated with top marks in performance exams through the methodologies of The Royal Conservatory of Music. He completed his formal post-secondary classical music training at The Glenn Gould School of The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, where he obtained his Bachelors of Music Degree, as well as completed one full year in the conservatory’s Artist Diploma Program as a full-scholarship recipient of The Jack Whiteside Scholarship. Royce started taking violin lessons and performing at the age of five years old – he has studied with some of North America’s leading violin pedagogues, namely, with Victor Danchenko, Martina Smazal, Taras Gabora, and Mayumi Seiler.

In March of 2021, Royce was thrilled to have self-produced and released his debut album entitled Short Stories – a collection of beloved encore pieces with pianist, Jeanie Chung. Short Stories the album is currently available to stream and download on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes and Amazon Music.

Rich has performed solo recitals and chamber music recitals for such concerts series across Vancouver and Toronto, such as West Vancouver Community Arts Council, Arts at One hosted by Douglas College, Music Friends, The Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver, Chabad Richmond, Vancouver Chinese Garden, Newmann Production, Concerts @ 100, St. Andrew’s Noon Hour, KnoxVan Events, Clearly Musical Home Concerts, West Vancouver Memorial Library, Vancouver Playback Theatre, Richmond Potters’ Club, Civic Plaza North Vancouver, Shipyards Square, among other concert and recital series.

Royce has cultivated a following on the internet via his online community on the social media app Instagram (@ roycerichmusical). As of February of 2023, he has produced weekly music-related content for his curated series: “Tuesday Tunes”.

Aside from performing, recording and teaching music across Vancouver and Toronto, Royce loves swimming, cycling, running, hiking, listening to Retrowave and Dreamwave music, and getting together with friends over coffee.

ABOUT JOSEPH STACY

Joseph Stacy is an American pianist based on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-watuth First Nations in what is now called Vancouver, BC. He was awarded the Faculty of Arts Graduate Fellowship to pursue his Master of Music in Piano Performance at the University of British Columbia, graduating in 2021. Prior to earning his master’s degree, he graduated summa cum laude with his Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance/Pedagogy from Ohio University, where he was also presented with the School of Music’s award for Undergraduate Achievement in Performance (2019).

Accomplished as a soloist, collaborator, and pedagogue, Stacy’s career has taken him across the U.S., Canada, and Austria. He performed in the Esterházy Palace as part of the 2018 Classical Music Festival in Eisenstadt, Austria, took part in multiple chamber ensembles for the 2022 AlpenKammerMuzik Festival in the alpine village of Liesing, Austria, and he was awarded a scholarship to participate in the 2023 Collaborative Piano Institute in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He received 3rd prize in the New Albany Symphony Orchestra Student Concerto Competition (2017), an Honorable Mention in Ohio University’s Student Soloist Competition (2016), and he was recognized as a finalist in the United States Virtuoso Artists’ International Piano Competition (2018). An avid lover of piano duo/duet repertoire, he and Gabriel Landstedt performed together as finalists in the Ohio International Duet and Duo Competition (2023), and he and fellow performer Mallory Scaife were awarded 1st prize in the Ohio MTA/Graves Piano Competition’s Adult Duo Division (2018). He has performed in master classes of internationally acclaimed pianists including Michael Chertock (Cincinnati CCM), Jane Coop (UBC), Ralf Heiber (Vienna Music and Arts University), Warren Jones (Manhattan School of Music), Rachel Kudo (International Bach Competition Winner), and Stanislav Tichonow (Haydn Konservatory).

ABOUT JOSEPH STACY

In addition to his attainments in performance, Stacy has delivered presentations at the Music Teachers’ National Association (MTNA) Collegiate Chapters Piano Pedagogy Symposium (2018, 2019), the MTNA National Conference (2017, 2018), and the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy (2019). He also participated in the highly selective Eastman Leadership Academy (2020).

His primary piano professors include Steinway Artist, Mark Anderson at UBC and Yamaha Artist, Christopher Fisher at Ohio University. Additional piano professors include Stephanie Wu, Rena Sharon, and Michelle Mares. He also studied organ under the tutelage of Paul Barte.

During the few hours of the week in which he is away from a piano, Stacy can be found taking his weekly cold plunge in the ocean, hiking the North Shore mountains, or running along the Vancouver seawall. In 2023, he officially earned the title of “marathoner,” completing the BMO Vancouver Marathon with a respectable time of 3:12.
