They shoot confetti cannons, encourage members to bring bells to ring and banners to wave. Last Easter everyone was given a cake pop as they left the service!

CREATE A GRAND TABLESCAPE. We decorate for Christmas at least a month ahead, so before Palm Sunday arrives set your dining room table to reflect the celebration to come. Use a gold and white color scheme—gold to remind us of our victorious King and white to represent the purity of His sacrifice and our future purity one day in Heaven! Arrange our Holy Week Candles down the center of the table with ivy or other greens, and on Easter Sunday add white roses, tulips or hydrangeas.

G E T YO U R C H I L D R E N I N VO LV E D. Encourage your children—boys will love this—to build a cross with pieces of old wood. Supply them with hammer and nails and then let them decide where to display it. You can explain that crucifixions were a common form of execution used by the Romans who ruled in those days. Jesus probably saw crosses standing on a hill in the distance as He arrived in Jerusalem the day before Palm Sunday.
T U N E Y O U R H E A R T T O W O R S H I P. Just as we listen to Christmas-themed music in the month of December, so we should fill the air around us with songs of His resurrection. Listen in the weeks leading up to Easter, but on Easter Sunday play them all day long. And respond as your heart desires with clapping, singing along, or with exuberant dancing! Easter is a day to party like no other. Here is a great Easter focused worship list from PraiseCharts.com.
ENCOURAGE YOUR KIDS TO RE-ENACT THE PALM SUNDAY STORY. Read the story out loud in John 12. Let them create costumes, a backdrop and seating for mom and dad and grandparents to watch.

PLAN TO WATCH THE JESUS FILM. Long time friends, Tim and Darcy Kimmel, watch the JESUS film with their family during Holy Week, often on Silent Saturday. They stop the movie when Jesus is nailed to the cross and then share communion together, explaining the meaning to their children and grandchildren. After communion they finish the movie. Watch here.
ADD RED ROSES TO YOUR TABLE ON GOOD FRIDAY AND AT TEND YOUR CHURCH’S SERVICES. Buy a dozen red roses during Holy Week. On Good Friday pull off all the petals and put them in a basket. Then gather your family and together sprinkle them down the center of your table around the 7 candles. Ahead of this day find or buy a piece of muslin fabric. As you read the day’s devotion in Behold the Lamb, rip the piece of fabric so your children see and hear the sound and can better understand the eye-popping wonder as God Himself ripped the curtain in the temple in half from top to bottom on this day.

ADD RED TO YOUR FRONT DOOR. Another way to remember Jesus’ sacrifice is to sprinkle some of the red rose petals on your front porch or add a long red ribbon or sash over your front door to mimic the blood of the lamb celebrated in God’s Passover in Exodus, a foretaste of Good Friday.
MARK SILENT SATURDAY. To help your family feel what the disciples felt after Jesus died on the cross, cover your table and the candles with black cloth. Close all your curtains or blinds and leave lamps and lights off to remember the disciples mood; for them all hope was lost.
