My project aims to improve the food supply infrastructure in the suburbs of Gininderry and balance development and food security for the future.

Population growth and urbanization are putting pressure on arable farming land and increasing food insecurity risks, and carbon footprints through long food transport distances.

Urban Agriculture provides an opportunity to offer space to connect industry, nature, and farming, increasing the life quality of residents and enhancing resilience.

The Gininderry housing development covers 400 hectares of land previously used for agriculture. In the centre of the development is a hectare of future parkland proposed for a closed landfill. This site will be capped with clay and a soil mix which will struggle to support trees.

Development

My project aims to improve the food supply infrastructure in the suburbs of Gininderry and balance development and food security for the future.

Using the agriculture space to increase the connectivity with the development and the adjacent Belconnen farm heritage. Reverse the landfill into an urban agriculture space, turning the waste collection into production space and providing local food for communities, at the same time has opportunities to become a food center to help people with training, education, and activities around agriculture.

Provide food for about 70 % of the residents.

Design the terrain to control the water to lead the water to the farming land to improve irrigation more efficiently.

Increase more high-density residential to create more area for green space.

Provide 1260 work opportunities.

Learning from Griffin's axis, increase the connection from the residential area to Murrumbidgee River, different land uses and views invite people and improve the relationship.

This project aims to connect separate Powerful Owl habitats to enhance biodiversity and resilience. Powerful Owl, the top predator in Victoria, have faced human and city development interruptions so the suitable habitat for them has become fewer and fewer.

To restore the owls’ habitat, I focus on the City of Yarra and Melbourne area, where several pairs of owls live and are isolated from the owl area.
