WHAT’S ON: SPECIAL ROMANTIC MOMENTS Personally, I think that Saint Valentine’s Day is just a commercial lover’s day, because we can be romantic every day of our lives with our partner. For this reason, I’m going to give you some ideas about special places to go with your partner any day of the year.
TIME TO RELAX If you would like to have a break in good company I encourage you to go to a Spa. There are special offers for 2 people even with a glass of bubbly and chocolates on arrival! There is a website where you can find all the offers around the UK to have a Spa Break/Day. Most of them are also hotels and they always have offers if you want to sleep or eat there. This will be more expensive but if you really want to have some romantic days it is a great option. Where: Wherever you want

TIME TO HAVE LUNCH/DINNER Our pocket money is not for luxuries, but we can afford to have a special meal once in a while. I do not propose fancy restaurants because we don’t need to eat well, so I suggest a few that are accessible on our budget. There’s no need to break the bank to ‘do lunch’ in style.

WHAT TO DO ON A RAINY DAY BANFF MOUNTAIN FILM FESTIVAL The world's most prestigious mountain film festival is coming! The UK Tour of the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour kicks off in Edinburgh on 27th January and is heading right across the UK. On the 2nd of February it takes place in our city, Leeds! The hosting venue is The Carriageworks and the tickets cost £12.50 to see 7 different short‐films. DRESS‐UP PAINT IN ARTSPACE On Saturday 4th of February it’s time to celebrate International Women’s Day. There is a special activity in Leeds Art Gallery, where you can have fun painting clothing. This is a workshop to explore new art ideas and ways of making. Booking is not required, so I encourage you to do this activity and arrive there as soon as possible! It’s also important to not dress up with your best clothes… When: Saturday 4th Feb (11am to 3pm)

PIP DICKENS: NEW WORK – ART EXHIBITION This exhibition shows new paintings and works on paper from the contemporary artist Pip Dickens. Influenced by the imagery and technique of Hieronymus Bosch, Disney animation and Francis Bacon, Dickens presents her new work in the University of Leeds. The Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery is situated in the Parkinson Building (the big white building with a lot of steps) on Woodhouse Lane. The entrance to the gallery is off the south end of the Parkinson Court (turn left at main reception desk). ILKLEY
WHAT TO DO ON A SUNNY DAY
Ilkley is the ideal place for walking, hiking or enjoying a great Sunday lunch and it's easily reachable by train and bus. Ilkley is a picturesque town set in the Yorkshire Dales. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and the famous Ilkley Moor there's miles of beautiful countryside to explore. Ilkley is also a “Walkers are Welcome town”, a title that recognise the town's walks for all abilities and its commitment to welcoming walkers. Ilkley also has lots of interesting independent shops including vintage boutiques, gift shops and delicatessens. There are lots of cafes, pubs and restaurants including the famous Bettys Cafe & Tearooms and the Michelin starred Box Tree. For culture you can visit the Manor House Art Gallery and Museum.

PARK SQUARE, LEEDS CITY CENTRE Park Square is a Georgian public square in Leeds, it is grassed over and now is in the financial centre. The park is the best place in Leeds for idling. It’s quiet and seldom crowded (you can usually get a bench to yourself); there’s plenty of sandwich shops just around the corner; and, best of all, if you idle on a weekday, you’re aware of being surrounded by terribly busy people doing terribly important things, while you – quite literally, when the impressive banks of flowers are in bloom – simply stop and smell the roses! LIVE MUSIC IN LEEDS
MUSIC STUART MCCALLUM TRIO LIVE AT THE GROVE INN Best known as the guitarist for The Cinematic Orchestra, Stuart also has an extensive solo career and has toured and recorded with the likes of Ari Hoenig, Tim Garland, Don Weller, Kenny Wheeler, John Surman and Mike Gibbs. The Grove Inn is a traditional English pub worth a visit so that you can enjoy a drink of good beer and to meet interesting folk. There is acoustic music every night of the week and the owners are enthusiastic supporters of live music. The Grove Folk Club (Friday nights) formed back in 1962 and is still in existence today. SAINT VALENTINE’S FAIR Europe's first and largest Valentine's fair couldn’t be in any other city: Leeds! People from Leeds said that St.Valentine would be proud of this Fair so… Let’s go! Back at Elland Road and opening on Thursday 9th February, the fair is celebrating its 21st birthday in Leeds with a bang. From 8.30pm onwards (on the opening night) visitors can enjoy a giant firework display as well as over 150 attractions. Cost: Entrance is free, but as in every fair… if you want enjoy you have to pay When: 9‐19 February. Open daily from 1pm‐10.30pm (except Thu 9th, Fri 10th, Sat 11th and Sat 18th) Where: Elland Road Car Park, Leeds. Bus service numbers 51 and 55 from Vicar Lane outside the market (stand M7) stop at Elland Road so there’s no reason to miss it.
