Young People with Fewer Opportunities (provided by European Commission)
“Young people with fewer opportunities� are young people that are at a disadvantage compared to their peers because they face one or more of the situations and obstacles mentioned in the non-exhaustive list below. In certain contexts, these situations/obstacles prevent young people from having effective access to formal and non-formal education, transnational mobility and participation, active citizenship, empowerment and inclusion in society at large.
Social obstacles: young people facing discrimination because of gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, disability, etc.; young people with limited social skills or anti-social or risky sexual behaviours; young people in a precarious situation; (ex-) offenders, (ex-)drug or alcohol abusers; young and/or single parents; orphans; young people from broken families, etc.
Economic obstacles: young people with a low standard of living, low income, dependence on social welfare system; in long-term unemployment or poverty, young people who are homeless, poverty, young people in debt or with financial problems.
Disability: young people with mental (intellectual, cognitive, learning), physical, sensory or other disabilities.
Educational difficulties: young people with learning difficulties; early school-leavers and school dropouts; lower qualified persons; young people with poor school performance, etc.
Cultural differences: young immigrants or refugees or descendants from immigrant or refugee families; young people belonging to a national or ethnic minority; young people with linguistic adaptation and cultural inclusion problems.
Health problems: young people with chronic health problems, severe illnesses or psychiatric conditions, young people with mental health problems.
Geographical obstacles: young people from remote or rural areas, young people living on small islands or peripheral regions; young people from urban problem zones; young people from less serviced areas (limited public transport, poor facilities, abandoned village).

PREPARATION Check List The Sending organization provides preparation for the trainee before departure, according to the individual needs and learning opportunities of the trainee. The preparation takes place before the departure and provides trainees with the information about the traineeship, traineeship´s different phases and Parties involved, practical and technical information. The purpose of this form is to talk about trainee´s motivation, expectations, fears and potential learning outcomes. The Preparation can wary from country to country and is dependent on sending organization`s usual practices, organizational possibilities and trainee’s individual needs. Nevertheless, it should cover a list of activities and ensure that before departure to the hosting country, trainee:

knows about the concept of the traineeship and its goals met the past trainees (ex-trainees) and heard good practice examples is familiar with the Sending and Hosting organizations and their goals is aware of the rights and responsibilities of the Sending and Hosting organizations, and trainee shared his/her motivation/expectations, fears and expected learning outcomes and skills development shared the information about his/her special needs (religious beliefs, dietary requirements, special other needs) received the project description and draft Activity Plan has been informed about the living and social condition, practical and financial aspects surrounding project placement (accommodation, food/pocket money, meal arrangement, local transport, local amenities and services, entertainment, sport and leisure activities) has received the information about the working hours and alternative activity if the project closes for the holiday period has been informed about formal and informal training and certification at the end received the contact information of the responsible person in the hosting organization received an insurance received visa (if applicable) arranged his/her travel to the host country and is informed about further travel arrangements (for example, flight/ baggage requirements) has been introduced to the host country (history, culture, law, food, music, interesting facts, main phrases in the host country’s language, geographical and physical location of the project) has compared his/her own country to the host country (history, currency, culture,

food, music, stereotypes, interesting facts) is informed about the present trainees and trainees during the project time knows who to contact in case of emergency agrees with the Sending organization on how the communication will be managed during the traineeship
