MARTHA About me
Hi! My name is Martha and I am 32 years old. I am doing temporary work in London and I love walking and cycling around the city.
The project
IN Motivation motivation
With no home or full time job I decided to take positive action and make the most of my freedom by trying something totally new in the “happy island” of Aruba.
Free Time
ARUBA The project
I work 2 mornings at Contreras Vets, looking after sick animals. I love assisting the vets with their consultations and operations. I’m now considering training as a vet assistant.
Accommodation
I also work at Aruba Donkey Sanctuary. I feed and water 50 donkies, clean their poo, give them medication, give guided tours to tourists, and work in the shop and bar. I love exploring the island. We’ve been horse riding in Arikok National Park and visited Ayo Rock Formation, the Natural Bridges and many beautiful beaches with our Arubian friends.
What did I learn professionally?
Professionally, I learnt to look after sick animals, administer medication, and to convert 2 currencies. I’m now considering new job options including being a veterinary assistant and an international tour guide.
I live with Claire (my project mate) in a nice apartment in Noorde. We are lucky to have a garden with palm trees and a pool, which I love swimming in.
What did I learn personally?
Personally, I gained confidence by learning how to drive an automatic car and drive on the right hand side, and I learnt to snorkel and improved my spanish and salsa dancing.
