The 2019 record-breaking Latin America sale at Christie’s has been credited with being a watershed moment for Cuban Art, with paintings from contemporary Cuban artists reaching up to $300,000. On this upward trend, Cuban Art News publisher and collector Howard Farber explains, “There are many similarities between the emerging art markets of China in the late 1980s and Cuba, after the opening of dialogue with the United States in 2015,” Farber continues. “Though thirty years apart, both eras saw the art and artists break out with new enthusiasm, extraordinary skill, and access to materials and markets.” In recent years, numerous exhibitions exploring Cuban art have been organized in renowned institutions, with an increasing number of collectors and museums acquiring pieces by Cuban artists, including the Tate Modern in London and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. The rise of Cuban art in the international scene is, therefore, no accident, as more and more individuals are captivated by its narratives and unique perspectives. It will undoubtedly continue to gain recognition and contribute to the rich tapestry of the global art landscape. The increasing global interest in Cuban art is also a significant factor in safeguarding Cuban culture amidst an unprecedented diaspora. By embracing the cultural enrichment these artists embody and carry with them into exile, their collectors contribute to preserving and appreciating their unique artistic legacy.
Cuban Avant-Garde: Exhibition 2023 Evey Fine Art is proud to present a mesmerizing collection that captures the essence of Cuba's artistic legacy by showcasing four of the most celebrated Cuban artists who are about to reach new heights in their careers after joining the ever-growing Cuban diaspora in the United States. Our featured artists, whose works are part of the permanent collection at the National Museum of Fine Art in Havana, are leading figures among those visionary Cuban creators who are gradually redefining our cultural landscape with their unique perspectives and unparalleled technical skill, creating an enriching tapestry that effortlessly melds tradition with innovation, nostalgia with modernity, and passion with intellect signifying a paradigm shift in the perception of contemporary art today. Each brushstroke, every sculpted form, unveils an exploration of personal narratives, the outer and inner landscapes that define us and a universal expression of the human condition. "Cuban Avant-Garde - Flatiron House" invites you to immerse yourself in the awe-inspiring and captivating imagery these talented artists create as they skillfully merge technical mastery with boundless creative genius.
