PAMELA WILSON

Pamela Wilson, Birds Of a Dream Disorder, oil on canvas, 20 x 16

“I always want the viewer to have an experience. I want to make them unsure, and yet I want to soothe them. I want them to strap on their wings and come with me on a journey. I want them to open their minds, bring their story, and let their imagination flow freely. Pamela Wilson 3

LYNN BOGGESS

Lynn Boggess, 05 March 2013, oil on canvas, 54 x 45.5

“Taking to the open” in, quite literally all kinds of weather, Boggess paints his subject as he stands in its midst. If the snow seems to fly across the picture plane, it is because Boggess stood there, working against time and the elements. When viewers say to him, “I feel as if I really am in the picture,” it is surely because Boggess was there when he painted it.

LOUISA MCELWAIN 1953 - 2013

Louisa McElwain, Cumulous Song , oil on canvas, 42 x 54

Louisa once said “I never want to forget that what I am looking at is paint on canvas.” Paint on canvas is inescapable in her dramatic paintings of the landscape of Northern New Mexico. Broad strokes of color applied with masonry trowels capture the energy of the landscape in frozen moments. Her “joyous exploration of the sensual potential of oil paint” resulted in a unique style that captured her relationship to the landscape. 13

SEAN CHEETHAM

Sean Cheetham, Gretchen, oil on panel, 10 x 8

While portrait painter Sean Cheetham’s work harks back to past traditions in realist painting, particularly work by artists like John Singer Sargent, and even further back to the golden age of Dutch painting, his subjects are clearly contemporary. 15

GARY WEISMAN

Gary Weisman, Unasking Whisper, bronze, (life size) 38h x 64w x 24d

In Weisman’s sculpture, his intense search for contemporary content seems to continually involve a retrieval of the past. Being figurative, his work confronts the preeminent motif of all historical sculpture. His figures reflect the influence of the canons of Greek design, the romance of the Renaissance and, later, Rodin, as well as the universal sculptural language of Brancusi or Egyptian stelae. Most of all, Weisman’s work continues the timeless preoccupation we have with ourselves, our bodies, and the human condition. In it, he extrapolates the drama that our bodies and beings create, and inspires in the viewer a sense of awe for the heroics we can mentally construct, or physically perform. 19

Gary Weisman, Accomplished, bronze, 33h x 16w x 9.5d

JORGE SANTOS

Jorge Santos, Hunters, oil + acrylic on canvas, 68 x 85

“I want the viewer to find pleasure in the mystery and intrigue of the settings. Most importantly, however, I want to offer them thought-provoking pieces. The kind of work that the instant the collectors see it, they can’t stop thinking about it, about how it relates to them, about how it relates to the world around them.” Jorge Santos 21

Jorge Santos, Fish Tales, oil + acrylic on canvas, 48 x 48

Jorge Santos, Idol, graphite on board, 10 x 8

LISA GROSSMAN

Lisa Grossman, Monsoon Season, oil on canvas, 20 x 22

“For nearly twenty years my prairie work, primarily plein air, has been a sustained meditation on open spaces. The power of this place, and my visceral responses to weather and shifts in light, color, and seasons, have been the true subjects of my work. My work has always been about shifts and the ephemeral. I’m not so much trying to freeze moments in time as much as I am attempting to convey my experience of them. My wish is to share some of what I’ve discovered, offering a new way a seeing these waterways and open prairie spaces that hopefully, ultimately, awakens a new appreciation for them.” Lisa Grossman 23

Lisa Grossman, Bitterroot Peaks, oil on canvas, 9 x 12

Lisa Grossman, Bitterroot Peaks II, oil on canvas, 9 x 9

Lisa Grossman, Reflect, oil on canvas, 36 x 72

KENT WILLIAMS

Kent Williams, The Mayan, oil on linen, 28 x 22

“Arriving at an uncanny equipose, his current paintings and drawings interweave the transitive states of dream and waking made in a heady mix of representational precision and breathlessly animated abstract gestures. Pure and simple, whether manifest as delicately jostled or fluently robust, Williams’ revered strain of para-objective mark-making stages some of the most seductive narrative and formal play generated by any artist at work today.” Alex Ross 25
