RE-TRANSFER PRINTER AVANSIA Evolisâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; new retransfer technology card printer is extremely robust and provides high security card issuance.

ansia is the latest printer to enter the Evolis range of products. This printer is our introduction to a premium retransfer printer for high definition cards. Avansia is capable of issuing more than 140 single sided color cards per hour. Thanks to the high capacity feed tray and output tray (250 cards each) - and high capacity consumables, you can print your card runs with no interruptions. As Avansia is a retransfer printer - the printing quality is improved, colors are now more vibrant with a high resolution of 600 dpi. If you are new to retransfer technology, this is how it works. The cards are printed in two phases: first, the card design is printed by dye sublimation on a transparent film. This is then followed by the printed file being fused to the card using a thermal bonding process for flawless results. The built in flattener will then apply pressure on the card,

ScholarChip Evolis and ScholarChip join forces to bring multiservice card based ID’s to the Baltimore County Public School System

Evolis, along with ScholarChip, an expert in smart card technology for educational institutions, announced the successful roll-out of an infrastructure to deliver multiservice student and staff ID cards for public schools in Baltimore. These IDs will serve as a single credential for multiple applications, from access control to identification and library services, as well as attendance monitoring and bus attendance to and from schools. In January 2014, The Baltimore County Public Schools awarded a contract to ScholarChip, to implement their card-based student and staff IDs as part of their automated student attendance services, called BCPS OneCard. The District required

RFID: an absolute must RFID – Radio-frequency identification (RFID) – is a technology that uses radio waves to transfer data from a chip to a remote reader. An RFID card hosts personal data to speed up visitor access to events by using a dedicated reader that accesses stored data, then grants or denies access to the card holder. An RFID card can be updated to grant specific access rights to a user who, for example, registered himself as a participant to a conference. RFID also helps organizers collect behavioral information about a card holder to update databases and execute targeted marketing actions. Since January 1, 2013, in the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, Africa, vehicle owners have experienced a major change that has made their life easier: a process to obtain the technical inspection certificate of their vehicle, along with the vehicle tax tag. Société Ivoirienne de Contrôles Techniques Automobiles (SICTA) was selected to manage the implementation of this new combined process. SICTA, a long-standing player in vehicle technical inspection in Côte d’Ivoire (also known as Ivory Coast), manages around 30 technical centers throughout the country and handles the collection of vehicle taxes since 2013. The latter is a new attribution for SICTA which aims at helping road users save time. The Ivorian government also benefits from this process, which improves visibility on the vehicle fleet in the country and on tax collection: this goes a long way in helping make consistent planning decisions. “When SICTA was selected to collect vehicle tax, we rallied to design the infrastructure that would best support this goal”, explains Robert N’Goran, CIO, SICTA. “We were already finalizing a major IT and automation plan to improve our technical centers, and our subsequent project was to deploy the appropriate tools to provide each vehicle owner with a certificate that proves the successful outcome of the technical inspection as well as the payment of tax on the vehicle.” The format of a plastic card was selected, so that the certificate could be personalized on the spot.

This card also replaces the traditional tax tag affixed on the windshield, which, today, is fully dematerialized.

Streamline tax collection while ﬁghting fraud As explained by Robert N’Goran, there was also another goal to this project: “The government also wanted to fight forgeries. The tag, which was previously available on paper, was vulnerable to forgery attempts. We surveyed the market to find the right solution and the Securion printer from Evolis got our attention because of its multiple anti-forgery features and capacity to match our requirements in terms of quality, security and fast operations.” After comprehensive testing, the Securion printer was deployed across all SICTA’s technical centers countrywide. The project was rolled out with the assistance of Evolis Distributor GENESTAR Technologies, which also provides maintenance and repair services to ensure high availability of the deployment, countrywide.

A proactive stance against road accidents The Republic of Côte d’Ivoire has not been left untouched by the scourge of road accidents, with a figure that soared by nearly 49% between 2011 and 2012. To curb this explosion, the government went to war against these accidents, employing awareness campaigns and using legal provisions that aimed at making road users accountable for their driving behavior on the roads. Technical inspection is also a key weapon in this fight, posting very satisfactory results: at the end of 2013, the country’s Ministry of Transportation announced that only 6% of road accidents were due to reasons other than human-related, such as the poor condition of a vehicle.

Designed and engineered by Evolis to deliver cards with tamper-proof security, Securion has captured the attention of multiple organizations around the world to support their official document applications. Securion is a multifeature printer that offers card personalization, lamination and encoding, delivering close to 100 personalized cards per hour in monochrome. SICTA actually selected this personalization in monochrome, which is performed on one side of their certificate, while the lamination film, which is applied on the whole card surface, comes with an embedded hologram, as additional weapon to fight forgeries. The printer comes provided with a standard lock that prevents unauthorized access to blank cards, while the version adopted by SICTA is personalized with an anti-dust filter affixed on the top cover: this makes it possible to use Securion in very versatile environments.

Those who use the printers are our inspectors, and they are not IT experts. After appropriate training, they began operations in a timely manner, started using the machines and ensuring day-to-day maintenance, such as reloading blank cards or the printing ribbons. The overall level of satisfaction is high, because the printer is so simple to use and very robust. Besides, the fact that we benefit from a support agreement at the local level is of great help.

Evolis was committed to making this project a great success right from Day 1. We were able to test drive Securion over a rather long period of time before making our decision. In addition, a Technical Manager from Evolis was staffed on this project and supported us locally throughout the deployment. Overall, we are very satisfied with our decision to collaborate with Evolis.
