Dear readers,

Євро-2012 – в кожному українському домі, в кожному українському серці. Чемпіонат надихає багатьох народних майстрів творити дива. По всій Україні співають, малюють, ліплять і вишивають, віддаючи часточку свого серця ідеї Євро. Тисячі українців приєднуються до таких творчих проектів. У цьому номері – знайомство з 10 митцями, які присвятили свою творчість турніру-2012. Вони вже стали творчою частиною великого футбольного свята. Те, що чемпіонат – справа кожного українця, доводить і опитування громадської думки, згідно яких ми віримо і в успіх проведення чемпіонату на нашій землі, віримо і в своїх футболістів. За даними останнього опитування, три чверті українців вірять в те, що національна збірна України зможе вирішити завдання-мінімум на Євро-2012 – подолати стадію групового етапу. А майже третина опитаних висловили впевненість в тому, що «синьо-жовті» опиняться серед призерів чемпіонату. Віра і натхнення українців є однією з складових підготовки до свята. Усі разом ми створимо незабутню атмосферу для свята і перемог.

Euro 2012 is in every Ukrainian home and in each Ukrainian heart. The championship is inspiring many folk artists to perform miracles. People all over Ukraine sing, draw, create sculptures and embroider, thereby donating part of their heart to the Euro idea. Thousands of Ukrainians are joining artistic projects of this kind. This edition will familiarize you with 10 artists who have dedicated their creative work to the 2012 tournament. They have already become a creative part of a grand football feast. Opinion polls also testify to the effect that the championship is the business of each and every Ukrainian; on the basis of these polls we believe that the championship that will be held in our land will be a success, and we trust our football players too. According to the most recent poll, some 75 per cent of Ukrainians believe that the Ukrainian national team will be at the very least able to cope with the Euro2012 task of getting through the group tournament stage. Almost a third of those questioned expressed their confidence that the “blue-and-yellow” team will be among the prize winners at the championship. The faith and inspiration of Ukrainians is one of the components of the preparations for the holiday. And all of us together will create an unforgettable atmosphere for celebrations and victories.

Емблему презентували 28 квітня в приміщення столичної галереї «Мистецький Арсенал». Переможцем конкурсу на кращий логотип НСК став Сергій Мельник з Бердянська. Він отримав фінансову винагороду в розмірі 10 000 гривень та запрошення на урочисте відкриття стадіону.

Реклама Євро – з вересня З 1 вересня розпочнеться широкомасштабна рекламна кампанія, присвячена проведенню в Україні чемпіонату Європи з футболу 2012 року. На цьому наголосив Віцепрем`єр-міністр – Міністр інфраструктури Борис Колесніков під час Національного семінару з журналістами регіональних ЗМІ. «З 1 вересня 2011 року розпоч неться широкомасштабна рекламна кампанія України, присвячена Євро2012. Раніше її розпочинати немає сенсу, бо літо – сезон затишшя. А з вересня вона буде запущена і буде працювати в режимі нон-стоп до

1 липня 2012 року», – зазначив Борис Колесніков. За його словами, у рамках цієї кампанії будуть продемонстровані 5-6 рек ламних роликів як на всесвітніх, так і на українських телеканалах. Водночас Віце-прем`єр-міністр підкреслив, що чіткіше рекламна стратегія щодо Євро-2012 визначиться після 2 грудня 2011 року, коли стане відомо, які конкретно матчі проводитимуться в кожному українському місті, що прийматимуть чемпіонат. Після цього стане зрозуміло, в яких країнах необхідно буде активізувати рекламу України до Євро-2012.

Euro advertising from September A large-scale advertising campaign dedicated to holding the 2012 European Football Championship in Ukraine will be launched on 1 September. This was emphasized by Vice Prime Minister and Infrastructure Minister Borys Kolesnikov during a national seminar with local media journalists. “A large-scale advertising campaign dedicated to holding the 2012 European Football Championship in Ukraine will

be launched in Ukraine on 1 September. There is no sense in launching it earlier, as summer is a slack season. It will be launched in September and will be effective in non-stop mode until 1 July 2012,” Borys Kolesnikov said. According to him, five or six promo clips will be broadcast within the framework of this campaign both on international and Ukrainian TV channels.

Meanwhile, the vice prime minister has emphasized that the advertising strategy in relation to EURO 2012 will be more clearly outlined after 2 December 2011 when the precise participants in matches to be held in each Ukrainian host city of the championship are known. Then it will become clear in what countries Ukraine’s advertising for EURO 2012 should be made more active.

Україна виконала 79% вимог з розміщення Станом на кінець квітня 2011 року, компанія TUI Travel, яка є офіційним туроператором УЄФА, законтрактувала в українських приймаючих містах Євро 14361 номер, що на 79% виконує вимоги УЄФА у 18185 кімнат, повідомляють в Нацагентстві з підготовки України до Євро (Укрєвроінфрапроект). Із загальної кількості підписаних УЄФА для потреб Євро-2012 номерів, у київських готелях рівня 3, 4 та 5 зірок законтрактовано 6448 кімнат, 2699 – в Донецьку, 2318 – в Харкові та 2896 номерів у Львові. Покриття існуючого дефіциту номерного фонду засобів розміщення планується за рахунок готелів, що будуються та реконструюються у приймаючих містах. 10

Ukraine fulfills 79 per cent of accommodation demand As of the end of April 2011, the TUI Travel company, being the official UEFA tour operator, had contracted 14,361 rooms in Ukraine’s Euro host cities, making 79 per cent of the UEFA demand of 18,185 rooms, the National Agency for Ukraine’s preparation for Euro (Ukreuroinfraproekt) reports. Out of the total number of the rooms signed by UEFA for EURO 2012

needs, the number of rooms in three-, four- and five-star hotels contracted in Kyiv is 6,448, in Donetsk – 2,699, in Kharkiv – 2,318, and in Lviv – 2,896 rooms. The existing shortage of the number of rooms in accommodation facilities is planned to be covered at the expense of the hotels being built and reconstructed in host cities.

До вересня 2011 року центральний фасад столичного «Палацу спорту» буде повністю оновлений. Про це під час брифінгу з нагоди урочистого відкриття оновленого Палацу сказав Віце-прем’єр – Міністр інфраструктури України Борис Колесніков. За його словами, до осені фасад, фойє, фаст-фуди, санвузли Палацу – усе це буде приведено до європейських стандартів. «Провівши першу частину реконструкції об’єкту, ми лише виконали вимоги Міжнародної федерації хокею, забезпечивши насамперед найкращі умови для спортсменів. Що стосується глядачів, то про них ми подбаємо дещо пізніше, провівши другу чергу реконструкції», – зазначив Борис Колесніков. Як розповів Віце-прем’єр, вартість оренди «Палацу спорту» для проведення у ньому концертів не підвищиться. Однак абсолютно пріоритетне право винаймати це приміщення буде віддано під спорт, а конкретно під льодові види. «Було б нерозумно не використовувати ресурси льоду. Палац відкритий для всіх. Усім київським хокейним клубам варто лише підписати контракт з керівництвом Палацу та погодити це з Федерацією хокею», – резюмував пан Колесніков. Нагадаємо, 15 квітня був урочисто відкритий реконструйований київський «Палац спорту». Першим випробуванням оновленого Палацу стали хокейні поєдинки чемпіонату світу з хокею у першому дивізіоні групи В, які протягом 17-23 квітня проходив у столиці.

The central facade of the Sports palace in the capital will be fully renovated by September 2011. This was announced by Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister and Infrastructure Minister Borys Kolesnikov during a briefing dedicated to festive inauguration of the renovated Palace. According to him, the facade, the lobby, all fast food restaurants and utility cores in the Palace will be upgraded to European standards by autumn. “Having carried out the first part of the object’s rebuilding, we just fulfilled the requirements set by the International Hockey Federation by primarily ensuring best conditions for sportsmen. As regards spectators, we shall take care of them a little bit later, while carrying out the second stage of the reconstruction,” Borys Kolesnikov noted. The Vice Prime Minister has said that the rent for conducting concerts in the Sports Palace will not be increased. But the absolute priority right to rent the premises will be granted to sports, and namely, to ice types of sport. “It would be unwise not to use the ice resources. The palace is open to everyone. It is just worth signing a contract with the Palace management and getting approval from the Hockey Federation for all hockey clubs in Kyiv,” Mr Kolesnikov summed up. A reminder that the reconstructed Sports Palace in Kyiv was inaugurated on 15 April. Hockey tournaments of the World Hockey Championship in the first division of B Group that were held in the capital city between 17 and 23 April became the first trial for the renovated palace.

Poland prepares special “beer” law

Fans will be allowed to use low-alcohol beer after matches of the European Football Championship in Polish stadiums, anyway. However, its quantity will be limited. According to futbolnews.pl, the law on total ban on using alcoholic beverages in sports arenas, which came into effect in the Republic of Poland in 2009, will not be applied during the tournament. The special law prepared for EURO 2012 envisages the possibility of selling beer (up to 4.5 per cent alcohol content) during the tournament matches. However, in some cases, and in particular, during high-risk matches, this regulation will not be effective. Beer will be sold only in specially designated areas, and this process will be regulated. This is why it cannot be ruled out that organizers will stamp people’s palms in order to prevent large amounts of alcoholic drink being consumed by the same person. In case of illegal delivery of alcohol to a stadium, the violators of this regulation will be subject to imprisonment or fine.

Під час матчів чемпіонату Європи з футболу на польських стадіонах вболівальникам таки дозволять вживати слабоалкогольне пиво. Щоправда, його кількість буде лімітована. Як повідомляє futbolnews.pl, введений в 2009 році в РП закон про повну заборону вживання спиртних напоїв на спортивних аренах не діятиме під час турніру. У підготовленому спецзаконі до Євро-2012 передбачається можливість продажу пива (до 4,5% міцності) під час матчів турніру. Однак в окремих випадках, зокрема під час матчів підвищеного ризику, це правило не діятиме. Пиво продаватиметься лише у виділених зонах і цей процес регламентуватиметься. Тому не виключено, що організатори ставитимуть печатку на долонях, аби уникнути продажу в одні руки великої кількості алкогольного напою. За нелегальне пронесення на стадіон алкоголю порушникам цього правила загрожуватиме ув’язнення або штраф до 2 тисяч злотих (понад 700 доларів США). UKRAINE 2012 11

Це українці, які не сидять склавши руки, коли країна готується до Євро. Їх приклад доводить: Євро-2012 – загальнонаціональний проект, а тема підготовки до чемпіонату небайдужа не лише владі, яка опікується організацією турніру, й простим людям, які також хочуть внести свою частку у написання футбольної історії.

Ukraine2012 offers you an opportunity to learn 10 stories about ordinary people who have got involved in Euro with their art and belief in the success of the championship. In reality, there are hundreds and even thousands people of this kind. They are the Ukrainians who do not sit idly when the country prepares for Euro. Their example serves as proof that EURO 2012 is a nationwide project, and the theme of preparation for the championship is the concern of not only the authorities supervising the organization of the tournament, but also of ordinary people who also with to make their contribution in shaping football history. кромний сільський вчитель з села Устя Снятинського району Івано-Франківської області Віктор Ладинський заримував пісню про Євро-2012 та українську перемогу. Автор куплетів про Євро об’єднав патріотизм і невмирущий гуцульський жанр фольклорної пісні. Тут, на Франківщині, коломийки складають традиційно. Веселі і жартівливі лаконічні пісеньки колись виступали приспівками до танцю, а потім переросли в окремий жанр – місцеві дівчата та хлопці частенько влаштовували тут задиристе змагання, хто кого переспіває коломийками. Щоб висловити своє ставлення до Євро-2012, Віктор спробував свої сили в літературній категорії – у конкурсі серед футбольних уболівальників «Вболіваємо за нашу збірну – творимо історію разом», організованому Місцевим оргкомітетом, і отримав почесний статус Друга Євро-2012. Як розповів автор, у коломийку про збірну України та Євро-2012 він вклав віру у непереможність наших футболістів. «Україна йде до Євро й ця дорога – вірна. Переможе Україна й українська збірна!» – так починається коломийка вчителя географії у загальноосвітній школі. Талановитий вболівальник у коломийку заклав традиційні футбольні гасла і рідні карпатські мелодії. «У мене виникла ідея перефразувати наші традиційні тексти з дідів-прадідів на сучасний лад і скласти, врешті-решт, таку коломийку про Євро та про збірну України, якої досі не було», – розповів автор. «Під час ЧЄ у 2012 році Україна отримає можливість покращити свою репутацію і стати на одну сходинку з країнами ЄС», – формулює гуцул акцент свого твору. Віктор сподівається, що його пісня стане частиною сучасної української фан-традиції. Перемогу і славу України він віщує такими словами: «Ми за наших футболістів будем вболівати, з ними Крим, Волинь, Полісся, Таврія й Карпати!». За його задумом, найбільше фан-спільноту має зачепити заклик до народу згуртуватися в єдиному пориві і підтримати нашу збірну. Принаймні, його односельці та земляки, для яких він повернувся з Києва справжнім героєм, вже поширюють між собою слова коломийки та підспівують, продовжуючи варіаціями на тему Євро. Ось як про це сказано в коломийці: «Вся Європа буде знати: футбол в Україні, У пошані в кожнім місті і в селі й родині. У фіналі наші будуть неодмінно грати, Їм Дніпро і рідний Київ будуть помагати». 14

npretentious village teacher from village Ustya, Snyatyn District, Ivano-Frankivsk Region, Viktor Ladynsky, has rhymed a song about EURO 2012 and Ukraine’s victory. The author of the verses about EURO has united patriotism and the immortal Guzul genre of folk song. Kolomiykas are traditionally composed here, in Ivano-Frankivsk Region. These laconic, jolly and comic songs were used to serve as refrains for dances, and then transformed into a special genre: local girls and boys often organized cocky contests in singing more Kolomiykas here. For expressing his attitude to EURO 2012, Viktor has tried his capabilities in a literary category: in the contest among football fans “Support our team – create history together” organized by the Local Organizing Committee and has got the honorary status of Friends of EURO 2012. As the author has told us, he put his belief in our team’s invincibility into the Kolomiyka about the Ukrainian national team. “Ukraine goes towards Euro, and this way is right. Ukraine and the Ukrainian national team will win!” is the beginning of the Kolomiyka written by the secondary school teacher of geography. The talented fan has put traditional football slogans and his native Carpathian melodies into the Kolomiyka. “It has occurred to me to paraphrase our traditions texts coming from the times of our grandparents and great-grandparents and to finally compose the kind of Kolomiyka about EURO and the Ukrainian national team which did not exist before,” the author said. “Not only will the Ukrainian national team win the 2012 European Championship, but all of Ukraine will get an opportunity to improve its reputation and to achieve the same level that EU countries have,” the Guzul said, formulating the emphasis of his work. Viktor expects his song to become a part of modern Ukrainian fan tradition. He predicts Ukraine’s victory and glory with the following words: “We shall support our football players; Crimea, Volyn, Polissya, Taurida and the Carpathians are with them!” According to his intention, the fan community should be most touched with the appeal to the people to unite into a single impulse and to support our national team. At least, his fellow villagers and compatriots to whom he had returned from Kyiv as a real hero already disseminate the lyrics of his Kolomiyka among themselves and sing, proceeding with variations on EURO themes. Here is how the Kolomiyka goes: “All of Europe will know: Ukraine’s football Is respected in every city, village and family. Our team will play in the final for sure, And the Dnieper and native Kyiv will help them.”

ксана Бакота з села Фитьків Надвірнянського району на Івано-Франківщині не є професійною вишивальницею, але вишивка і Євро-2012 стали вже частиною її життя. Понад два роки вона творить оригінальні рушнички – народні сувеніри для гостей чемпіонату. На полотні розміром 100 на 50 см червоним розграфлено футбольне поле, його обрамлено традиційним українським орнаментом. Щоб не нав’язувати вболівальникам традиційні гуцульські чи бойківські візерунки, майстриня обрала червоні троянди – поширений символ у всіх регіонах країни. Окрім того, вважає пані Оксана, квіти об’єднують всі народи. Кольори вишивки також класичні українські – червоно-чорним по білому. «Наші вишивані квіти – особлива краса, від них гості Євро отримають естетичне задоволення. Окрім того, в народних традиціях на завершення важливої справи, великого будівництва, усе увінчується квіткою, – вважає вишивальниця. Наразі готові 12 таких рушничків. Майстриня планує розширити асортимент, включивши в символіку ще й м’яч. А також випустити серію з орнаментами з різних регіонів країни, футбольні шалики у такому ж стилі. Для простої сільської жінки тема футболу і Євро-2012 – невіддільні від питань духовності. «Взяти голку в руки, сісти вишивати мене змусила ідея обрамлення квітами футбольного поля. Ось такі ми, українці – любимо все прикрашати. Це стиль нашої країни – квітковий, радісний, красивий», – вважає майстриня. Для Оксани Бакоти важливо, щоб гості Євро побачили не тільки нові стадіони і чисті дороги, а й те, чим багата наша земля, багатовікова українська культура. «Гості Євро мають повезти додому наші сувеніри, зроблені українськими руками, в які буде вкладено наше серце, – підкреслила вона.

ksana Bakota from the village of Fytkiv, Nadvirna District, Ivano-Frankivsk Region, is not a professional embroiderer, but embroidery and EURO 2012 have already become a part of her life. She has been creating original embroidered towels for more than two years now: these are folk souvenirs for guests of the championship. A football field is ruled in red colour on a canvas 100x50 cm in size, and it is framed with a traditional Ukrainian ornament. In order not to enforce traditional Guzul and Boyko ornaments on fans, the master has chosen red roses, a widely spread symbol in all regions of the country. Besides this, in Oksana’s opinion, flowers unite all nations. The colours are also classical Ukrainian ones: red and black on a white background. “Our embroidered flowers are especially beautiful, and guests of EURO will get special pleasure from them. Besides this, in line with folk traditions, the completion of an important work, a major construction is always crowned with a ‘flower’ ”, the embroiderer said. The number of such embroidered towels that have been already completed is 12. The embroiderer plans to make the assortment more diverse by including a ball into the symbols, along with making a series with ornaments from different regions of the country and football scarves in the same style. The themes of football and EURO 2012 are integral with spirituality issues for the ordinary village woman. “I was inspired to take a needle into my hands and to begin embroidering by the idea of framing a football field with flowers. We, Ukrainians, are this kind of people: we like to decorate everything. This is the style of our country: floral, jolly and beautiful,” the embroiderer said. It is important for Oksana Bakota to make guests of EURO see not only new stadiums and clean roads, but also the wealth of our country and centuries-old Ukrainian culture. “Guests of the EURO should take home our souvenirs made by Ukrainian hands into which we shall put our hearts,” she emphasized. емпіонат вніс креатив і в творчість різьбяра по дереву Миколи Христича з Рівного. Готуючись до турніру, він вперше в історії виготовив футбольне крісло Євро-2012. Ідеї для оформлення кожного крісла, як каже сам майстер, йому підказує Господь, а тому у кожну роботу вкладає всю силу та душу. Поки що в доробку митця чотири стільці та ще дві спинки до них. Це два футбольних крісла для України, а також по одному для Росії та Німеччини. «Уявіть, як було б приємно запеклій футбольній вболівальниці – канцлеру Німеччини Ангелі Меркель отримати від України такий подарунок», – наголошує різьбяр. Микола Христич розповідає, що окрім унікальності футбольних крісел, не має аналогів у світі їхній дизайн, створений окремо до кожної моделі: «На сидінні одного крісла в мене зображені два леви з м’ячем. Вони уособлюють команди, які змагаються на футбольному полі. Символ лева – це мудрість та сила». Особлива техніка і щодо оздоблення фарбами вирізьблених елементів. «Використовую лаки та екологічно чисті фарби. Їх кладу в три шари. На фарбування готового крісла в мене йде близько 4-5 днів», – каже пан Христич. Він стверджує, що фарба на готових кріслах прослужить все життя. Майстер наполягає, що в футбольному кріслі все повинно нагадувати про гру мільйонів, тому задумав робити свої витвори без підлокітників. «Коли людина дивитиметься футбол, сидячи у моєму кріслі без бокових перил, то відчуватиме себе на трибуні стадіону, – пояснює він. – Окрім того, я спинку крісла навмисне зробив під кутом – щоб людина могла витягнутися і розслабитися». На виготовлення одного футбольного крісла йде від одного до двох тижнів, та, зважаючи на скрупульозну працю над кожним твором, автор свої крісла називає безцінними. Однак головною ціллю майстра залишається виготовлення великого тронного крісла для найкращого футболіста Євро. Готовий і проект майбутнього шедевру. «Висота виробу сягатиме 1,8 метра, ширина – близько метра. Щодо деревини-матеріалу, – використовуватиму дуб або волоський горіх», – розповідає рівнянин, однак залишає у секреті, з яких художніх елементів компонуватиме крісло. 16

While preparing for the tournament, he made EURO 2012 football armchairs for the first time in history. As the master says himself, the idea of decorating each armchair is being prompted to him by the Lord, and this is why he puts all his efforts and soul into each item. The artist has already made four chairs and two backs for them. These are two football armchairs and Ukraine and one for Russia and Germany each. “Imagine how pleased devoted football fan German Chancellor Angela Merkel will be to get a present of this kind from Ukraine,” the carver emphasizes. Mykola Khrystych has said that, in addition to the unique idea of football armchairs, their design created separately for each model has not counterparts anywhere in the world: “I have made an image of two lions with a ball on the seat of one armchair. They personify the teams competing on the football field. The lion symbolizes wisdom and strength.” Painted decoration technique for carved elements is also special. “I use varnishes and ecologically pure paints. I spread three layers of them. Some four or five days are needed for me to paint a finished armchair,” Mr Khrystych said. He asserts that that durability of paint on finished armchairs is life-long. The master says that everything in the football armchair should remind about the play of millions of people, and this is why he has decided to make his works without armrests. “When one sits in my armchair without armrests on the sides watching football, he feels like on a tribune of a stadium,” he explained. “Besides this, the back of the armchair has been intentionally made angularly in order to enable a viewer to stretch out and relax.” Making one football armchair takes from one to two weeks, and in view of thorough work on each item, the author says that his armchairs are invaluable. But still, the master’s main goal is to make a large armchairthrone for the best EURO football player. The design of the future masterpiece is also ready. “Its height will reach 1.8 meters, and the width will be around a meter. As regards wooden material, I shall use either oak or Circassian walnut,” the resident of Rivne has said, but he keeps the artistic elements of which the armchair will be composed in secret.

У планах – підготовка фестивалю футболу. «Центральною подією фестивалю стане створення велетенського плетеного килима, розміром з футбольне поле. Вузлик до нього може зробити кожен бажаючий на знак єднання всієї країни, яка з нетерпінням очікує Євро-2012. Таких вузликів буде близько двох мільйонів», – зазначив Рагулі Власідзе. Завершити народний витвір планують за рік – напередодні турніру. Велетенський гамак розмалюють як газон поля, по боках прикрасять вишивкою і прапорами країн-господарів. По завершенню робіт килим планують показати у містах України та Польщі. А згодом – урочисто передати до штаб-квартири УЄФА. На думку режисера, акцент свята – об’єднавча ідея, яка необхідна сьогодні і Україні, і цілому світу. «Футбол – це велика та захоплююча гра, яка у світі єднає більше країн і народів, ніж світові політичні інститути. Ця гра допомагає будувати стосунки між усіма суспільними верствами, націями та расами. Тому за рік до Євро-2012 українці мають унікальну можливість показати всьому світу, що наш народ – єдиний, як вузлики створеного українського «Футбольного килима», – пояснив пан Власідзе. Ще один проект, який готується до свята – футбольні булави як подарунки гостям турніру, визначним українцям від імені народу. Івано-Франківські гончарі вже сьогодні підготували пробну серію з 15 керамічних символів з наконечниками у вигляді футбольного м’яча з українськими орнаментами. За словами Рагулі Власідзе, гуцульські майстри випекли булаву з козаком для президента УЄФА Мішеля Платіні. Для Президента України – із зображенням козака, що сидить на гарматі – цей символ, на думку майстрів, має охороняти майбутнє України. «Футбольна булава – не зброя, а прихована сила, яка потрібна і українській збірній, і всій країні для підготовки до турніру. Вона завжди дає енергію, натхнення перемагати», – пояснив ініціатор проекту.

His plans comprise preparation for the football. “Making a huge weaved carpet the size of a football field will become the central event of the festival. Everyone who wishes will be able to make a knot for it as the sign of unity of the whole country, which is impatiently anticipating EURO 2012. There will be around two million knots of this kind,” Raguli Vlasidze noted. The work on people’s creation is planned to be completed in a year, on the eve of the tournament. An immense hammock will be painted like grass in the field and will be decorated with embroidery and flags of host countries on its sides. When the work is completed, the carpet is planned to be shown in all Ukraine’s and Poland’s cities, and then to be festively handed over to UEFA headquarters. In the director’s opinion, the emphasis of the holiday is the idea of unity which is presently needed both for Ukraine and the whole world. “Football is a great captivating game which unites more countries and nations in the world than world political institutions. This game is helpful for building relations between all social strata, nations and races. This is why Ukrainians have a unique opportunity to demonstrate a year before EURO 2012 that our nation is united like knots of the Ukrainian ‘football carpet’ that had been created,” Mr Vlasidze explained. Football maces to be presented to guests of the tournament and prominent Ukrainians on behalf of the people are another project being prepared for the feast. Potters from Ivano-Frankivsk have already prepared an experimental series of 15 ceramic symbols with the heads in the shape of a football with Ukrainian ornaments. According to Raguli Vlasidze, Guzul craftsmen have fired a mace with a Cossack for UEFA President Michel Platini. The one of Ukrainian president is with a figure of a Cossack sitting on a cannon: in the opinion of masters, this symbol should safeguard Ukraine’s future. “A football mace is not a weapon, but unrevealed strength needed for the Ukrainian national team to prepare for the tournament. Два роки тому у піднесенні він створив ікону-талісман до європейського футбольного чемпіонату. На такий серйозний крок його надихнуло і саме Євро, і знайомство з проектом режисера Рагулі Власідзе. «Існує багато видів зображення Богородиці – Ніжність, Одигітрія, Оранта. Є також Провідниця – через яку передаються Богу усі наші молитви і прохання. Ікона написана в давно відомих символах. Новим прочитанням є лише поява м’яча та футбольного поля, присвячена Євро-2012», – зауважив іконограф. Для уважного глядача Василь Стефурак робить підказку: «Якщо придивитись до жестів, можна помітити, що перший перст Марії торкається поля, другий вказує на Сина Божого. Це має наштовхнути на думку: якщо ми хочемо зробити щось велике, таке, як Євро-2012, треба молитися, щоб бути духовними і сильними», – підкреслив автор. Про ікону Богородиці з національними символами країнгосподарів Євро-2012 України та Польщі пішов поголос по всьому регіону. Чимало односельців вважає, що ікона має знаковий характер – вона захистить не тільки турнір, а й об’єднає всю Україну. Іконограф з 20-літнім стажем каже, що робота далась йому дуже легко. Створити оберіг для українського футболу мріяв ще з 1975 року, коли «Динамо» виграло і Кубок, і Суперкубок УЄФА. Але тепер українському Євро потрібна підтримка ще більше, переконаний він. Пан Стефурак ще каже: люди, які відвідають Україну під час ЧЄ-2012, мають залишити у пам’яті не тільки наші стадіони, але й українську культуру, духовність нації. Саме такою є мета цього проекту. 18

He created in inspiration a mascot icon for the European Football Championship two years ago. This serious step was inspired to him by EURO itself and familiarization with director Raguli Vlasidze’s project. “There are many kinds of painting of Virgin Mary’s images: Tenderness, Hodegetria, Orante. There is also the one of Bearer: all our prayers and requests are communicated to God through her. The icon has been painted with the use of the symbols known for ages. Only the appearance of a football and a football field dedicated to EURO 2012 is a new interpretation,” the icon painter noted. Vasyl Stefurak gives a tip for an attentive viewer: “If you look attentively at the gestures, you can notice that Mary’s forefinger touches the field and the second one indicates at the Son of God. This should prompt the idea: if we want to do something great, of the kind of EURO 2012, we have to pray in order to be spiritual and strong,” the author emphasized. Talk about the icon of Virgin Mary with national symbols of EURO 2012 host countries, Ukraine and Poland, began spreading in the entire region. Many fellow villagers think that the icon has a symbolic nature: it will not only protect the tournament, but will also unite Ukraine. The icon painter having 20 years of working experience has said that he had accomplished the work very easily. “I had a dream to make a talisman for Ukrainian football back in 1975 when Dynamo had won both UEFA Cup and Super Cup. But Ukrainian EURO presently needs even more support,” he is convinced. Mr Stefurak has also said: “People who will visit Ukraine during the 2012 European Championship have to retain not only our stadiums in their memory, but also Ukrainian culture and spirituality of the nation. Namely this is the goal of this project.”

онецька художниця Тетяна Пономаренко-Левераш покаже гостям Євро історію шахтарської столиці, людей та футбольні традиції приймаючого міста у несподіваних образах. Майстер живопису та завзята вболівальниця свою любов до рідного міста та пристрасть до футболу вирішила відобразити в оригінальному проекті. Рік тому Тетяна подала на розсуд громадськості портрети дев’яти гравців «Шахтаря», тренера команди Мірчі Луческу і президента УЄФА Мішеля Платіні. На її картинах Маріуш Левандовскі став шляхтичем, Томаш Хюбшман – гірником, Дмитро Чигринський – мушкетером. Сьогодні автор готує історичну колекцію міських видів до Євро-2012, у якій покаже Донецьк та футбол, якими вони були 100 років тому. Як наголошує авторка, вона теж прагне долучитися до творення історії турніру – першого масштабного європейського футбольного свята, що пройде на теренах України. Водночас намагається розвіяти незаслужене кліше «безкультурного» Донецька та відкрити всьому світу незвичайний шахтарський край. «На картинах я вирішила показати Донецьк таким, яким його заснував англійський підприємець Джон Юз, яким він був 100 років тому», – сказала вона. Для того, щоб картини максимально реалістично відображали ті часи, художниця використовує фотоматеріали 1901–1913 років. «Зараз історію можна побачити лише на чорно-білих фото, але у моїх картинах Юзівка оживе у кольорі», – підкреслює вона. Раніше Тетяна вже малювала портрети міста. Донеччани пам’ятають монументальний триптих «Моє місто, моя любов», який минулого року взяв участь у виставці, присвяченій 75-літтю Донецької області. Тепер митець планує створити колекцію з 35 робіт великого розміру, 20 – у графіці, решту – олійними фарбами. Наразі готові 16 робіт. Особливу увагу у творах художниця приділила футбольним вболівальникам. «Покажу кавалерів та дам у капелюхах, що сиділи на дерев’яних лавочках на перших рядах стадіону, простих гірників, які не могли купити собі квиток, тому дивилися матч з терикону, маленьких вболівальників та інших фанатів гри», – сказала пані Тетяна. Колекцію «Юзівка» представлять під час турніру у Донецьку, далі картини вирушать у подорож містами Євро.

The master of painting is a devoted fan, and she has decided to reflect the love to her native city and passion for football in an original project. It was a year ago when Tetyana presented to public the portraits of nine Shakhtar players, team’s coach Mircea Lucescu and UEFA President Michel Platini. In her pictures Mariusz Lewandowski became a Polish gentleman, Tomasz Hubschman – a coal miner, Brandao – a painter, and Dmytro Chyhrynsky – a musketeer. The author is currently preparing a historical collection of city views for EURO 2012 in which she will show Donetsk and football as they had been 100 years ago. The author emphasizes that she also aspires to get involved in shaping the history of the tournament, the first large-scale European football feast that will take place on the territory of Ukraine. Meanwhile, she is trying to shatter the ungrounded cliché of “uncultured” Donetsk and to open the marvelous coal miners’ land to the whole world. “I have decided to show Donetsk on my pictures the way as it had been founded by English businessman John Hughes, the way it used to be 100 years ago”, she said. In order to make the pictures most realistically reflect that period, the painter uses photographic materials of the years 1901-13. “At present history can be seen only on black-and-white photographs, but Hughesivka will revive in my pictures in colours,” she emphasizes. Tetyana painted city portraits earlier. Residents of Donetsk remember her monumental triptych “My city, my love” which took part in the exhibition dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Donetsk Region last year. The artist currently plans to paint a collection of 35 large-size works, 20 of them to be graphics, and the rest to be painted in oil. She has already completed 16 works. The artist has paid special attention to football fans in her works. “I shall show gentlemen and ladies in hats sitting on wooden benches in the first rows of the stadium, ordinary miners who were unable to buy tickets for themselves and therefore followed matches from a pit refuse heaps, small fans and other fans of the game,” Tetyana said. The “Hughesivka” collection will be presented during the tournament in Donetsk, and then pictures will continue their voyage to other EURO cities. UKRAINE 2012 19

За словами пана Слоцького, він чудово орієнтується в новинах футбольного життя та деталях підготовки до єврочемпіонату. «Я вже давно веду футбольну статистику. Відслідковую, як Україна готує свою інфраструктуру до турніру. Зараз працюю вже над другим томом збірки, до якої вміщую усі газетні та журнальні вирізки про організацію чемпіонату», – ділиться автор кросворду. Свою творчу роботу мешканець міста Рудки Самбірського району подав на конкурс, який організовував МОК «Євро-2012 Україна», й переміг, за що був удостоєний звання Друга Євро-2012. Щодо планів на поширення кросворду, до Євро Мар’ян Слоцький має бажання розмістити його в журналі «Футбол», оскільки хоче, щоб його робота була надрукована у кольорі. Але найбільше мешканця Львівщини турбує організація чемпіонату в Україні. «Керівництво країни, усі українці повинні зробити все, аби провести турнір на найвищому рівні. Для цього також потрібно підготувати національну збірну до змагань: треба, щоб наша команда дійшла хоча б до півфіналу, чи фіналу турніру», – резюмував автор. 20

aryan Slotsky, a road worker from Lviv Region, has compiled a super crossword puzzle about EURO 2012 in order to make devoted fans repeat the history of the tournament. “The crossword puzzle is based on the words ‘Ukraine’ and ‘Poland’. They have been done in national colours. EURO mascots Slawek and Slavko have been placed in the middle of the puzzle, along with official logos of the championship,” Maryan Slotsky has said. He has added that tasks of the crossword puzzle are related to history of football in Ukraine and Poland and details of preparation for the tournament. In order to solve it, one also has to know peculiarities of sports in the host countries. According to Mr Slotsky, he has perfect orientation in the news of football life and details of preparation for the European Championship. “I have been keeping football statistics for a long time now. I follow the way Ukraine prepares its infrastructure for the tournament. I presently already work on the second volume of the collection in which I place all newspaper and journal clippings about the organization of the championship,” the author of the crossword puzzle told us. The resident of the town of Rudky, Sambir District, submitted his creative work to the contest organized by the EURO 2012 Ukraine LOC and gained victory. For this he was awarded the title Friend of EURO 2012. As regards the plans of publishing the crossword puzzle, Maryan Slotsky wishes to place it in the Football magazine before EURO because he wants his work to be printed in colours. But the resident of Lviv Region is most concerned over the organization of the championship in Ukraine. “The country’s leadership and ordinary Ukrainians should to their utmost to hold the tournament at the highest level. For doing this, it is also necessary to prepare the national team for the competition: our team has to reach at least the tournament’s semi-final or final,” the author summed up.

о вдягнути на Євро? У чому вболівати за нашу збірну? Про це подбала молодий дизайнер, переможниця модного конкурсу Lviv Euro 2012 Fashion Day Ольга Романова. Небагато дизайнерів ризикнули взятися за таку незвичну тему. Із 12 авторів, що вдались до оригінальних рішень щодо одягу на Євро, майже всі робили акцент на ідеї поєднання молодості, спорту та патріотизму. Ольга додала до всього ще й жіночу лінію. Випускниця Львівської національної академії мистецтв вважає, що у завданні конкурсу йшлося не стільки про спортивну форму, як про спортивний настрій і азарт. Для неї стиль Євро – це передусім запал і захоплення. Назва її колекції звучить як «GoalBoll Fashion» (майже як «Global Fashion»), тобто дослівно – як «мода забивати м’яч». За задумом поєднання м’яча, голу та стилю надихає молодь на моду на перемогу. «Я використала образ футбольного м’яча не лише як ключового елементу футбольної гри, але й як універсального символу, що притягує усіх небайдужих до спорту, до руху, до перемоги – і спортсменів, і вболівальників», – зауважила Романова. Елементи чорно-білого та варіації на тему п’ятикутників автор додала до повсякденних речей і запропонувала носити це для виразності іміджу вболівальників. Загалом же дизайнер воліє працювати на поєднанні контрастів, наприклад, тканини та шкіри. «Українським жінкам на Євро не завадить до свого повсякденного одягу додати хоча б елемент «от кутюр», щоб показати свою індивідуальність яскравіше», – зауважила вона. Разом з тим, майстриня не сприймає арт, відірваний від життя. Тому її моделі, представлені на Lviv Euro 2012 Fashion Day, є своєрідним art-a-porte, тобто подіумні експонати можуть легко перетворюватися на цілком зручні речі. Розповідаючи про роботу над колекцією, Ольга зізналась, що мусіла спочатку закохатись у тему. Надихали автора і славна історія українського футболу, і зміни на краще у рідному місті під час підготовки до Євро-2012. У колекції навмисне були використані пуховики, щоб підкреслити, що Україна готується до Євро не один рік – за будь-якої погоди. Авторка переконана, що у такому стильному одязі львів’яни мають зустрічати гостей чемпіонату.

hat to put on for Euro? In what clothing should we support our national team? Young designer and winner of the Lviv Euro 2012 Fashion Day fashion contest Olha Romanova has taken care of this. Not many designers would have taken the risk of taking up this unusual theme. Almost all the creators out of the 12 who presented original solutions for EURO clothing put the emphasis on combining youth, sports and patriotism. Olha has added a feminine line to all this. A graduate of the Lviv National Arts Academy, she is convinced that the task of the contest mainly implied not sports uniform, but sporting spirit and enthusiasm. In her understanding, EURO style is primarily ardour and passion. The name of her collection is “GoalBall Fashion” (almost like “Global Fashion”), which literally means “fashion to score goals”. The combination of ball, goal and style is intended to inspire young people to win as a fashion. “I have used a football image as the key element of a football game, but also as a universal symbol which attracts all those who are not indifferent to sports, to movement and to victory: both sportsmen and fans,” Romanova noted. Black-and-white elements and variation on pentagon themes have been applied by the author to everyday items and offered for wearing them to make fans’ image more expressive. In general, the designer is willing to work on the basis of uniting contrasts, for example, of fabric and leather. “It will not be bad for Ukrainian women to add at least one ‘haute couture’ element to their casual clothing for EURO in order to express their individuality more vividly,” she noted. Meanwhile, the master does not accept art alienated from life. This is why the models presented at the Lviv Euro 2012 Fashion Day are a kind of art-a-porte, which means that exhibits from the podium can easily become absolutely comfortable things. The author was also inspired by glorious history of Ukrainian football and changes for the better in her home city during the preparations for EURO 2012. Down-padded coats have been intentionally used in the collection to emphasize that Ukraine had been preparing for EURO more than one year in any weather. а зміну південноафриканській вувузелі ЧС-2010 має прийти новий музичний атрибут фанів – український бубон Євро-2012. Так вважає працівник одного з рекламних агентств Дніпропетровська Сергій Ковтун. Він власноруч розробив концепцію та дизайн оригінального музичного інструменту, який має доповнювати вигуки футбольних вболівальників на стадіонах. Як зазначив Сергій Ковтун, якого УЄФА удостоїв звання Друга Євро-2012, ідея створення бубна виникла після того, як в Дніпропетровську на футбольних матчах заборонили використовувати дудки. «У мене виник задум замінити традиційний інструмент фанів якимось іншим. На мою думку, стилізований бубон тут найкраще підійшов», – ділиться автор. Він додав, що на виготовлення ударного інструмента він витратив більше доби, а також близько 100 гривень. «Спочатку в магазині придбав звичайнісінький пластмасовий бубон. У дизайн додав футбольну тематику – передню частину оздобив зображенням футбольного м’яча з прапорами України та Польщі. А вже готовий виріб прикрасив стрічками, знову ж таки виконаних у національних кольорах країн – організаторів чемпіонату», – розповів пан Ковтун. За його словами, бубон відображає ритм українського життя, показує нашу душу. «Україну можна асоціювати з піснями та танцями, а всі вони супроводжуються грою на бубні. Цей інструмент має два звуки – ударний та дзвінкий. Усі вони святкові, а футбол – це свято», – акцентує автор. Окрім ідеї зробити бубон постійним атрибутом українців на футболі, у Сергія Ковтуна є ще один задум – до Євро-2012 записати футбольні марші – звуки, які вболівальники вигукували б під час матчу, коли їхня команда атакує, захищається, забила гол тощо. «Потрібно підготувати 5-6 маршів, викласти їх в інтернет і влаштувати таку кампанію, щоб ці звуки знали усі українські фани. Таким чином, наспівуючи власні футбольні марші, ми зможемо підтримувати свою команду», – резюмує Друг Євро-2012. 22

This is the opinion of one employee of Dnipropetrovsk advertising agencies, Serhiy Kovtun. He has developed the concept and design of the original music instruments with his own hands: it is supposed to supplement football fans’ shouts in stadiums. Serhiy Kovtun who was awarded the title Friend of EURO 2012 by UEFA has noted that the idea of making a tambourine arose when the use of pipes at football matches was banned in Dnipropretrovsk. “I got the idea to replace the traditional fans instrument with something else. It my opinion, styled tambourine will fit best of all here,” the author told us. He has added that he had not spent more than one day and around 100 hryvnyas to make the percussion instrument. “First I bought an ordinary plastic tambourine in a shop. I added football themes to its design: the front part was decorated with a picture of football and flags of Ukraine and Poland. I decorated the finished item with ribbons, and they also had the national colours of the countries organizing the championship,” Mr Kovtun said. According to him, tambourine reflects the rhythm of Ukrainian life and reveals our soul. “Ukraine may be associated with songs and dances, and they all are accompanied by tambourine playing. This instrument has two sounds: impact and voice ones. They all are festive, and football is a holiday,” the author emphasized. Besides the idea of making tambourine a permanent attribute for Ukrainian football fans, Serhiy Kovtun has another idea: to record football marches for EURO 2012. These should be the sounds to be shouted by fans during a match when their team attacks, defends, scores a goal, etc. “It is necessary to prepare five or six marches, post them on the Internet and organize a campaign to familiarize all Ukrainian fans with these sounds. This, we shall be able to support our team by singing our own football marches,” the Friend of EURO 2012 sums up.

Нещодавно художниця взяла участь у зйомках рекламного ролика футбольної першості. 30-секундне фірмове «пісочне відео» під назвою «Зустрінемося в Україні» було випущено трьома мовами на замовлення Міністерства культури і туризму України з метою промоції єврочемпіонату. Ролик, який вже кілька місяців транслюється на центральних каналах Росії, Білорусі і Польщі, робить акцент на унікальності нашої країни. Теплий, сповнений любові до своєї землі, відеоряд розказує про головні місця країни: Київ – Крим – Карпати перетікають одне в одне. Окрім природних багатств, вважає Ксенія, Україна багата на добрих і гостинних людей, які також є найкращою рекламою для своєї країни. «Пісочна анімація – рідкісний вид мистецтва. Сподіваюсь, ролик, виконаний в оригінальній формі, викличе інтерес до нашої країни і притягне увагу наших сусідів», – підкреслює Ксенія. Між тим, «Зустрінемось…» – лише перша з трьох частин. Пісочна промокампанія побудована таким чином, що головна ідея реклами розкривається поступово. Мета першого ролика – схвилювати і викликати інтерес. Мова про футбол піде лише в останньому відео, яке заплановано запустити напередодні чемпіонату. Як розповідає Ксенія, вона з задоволенням включилась в проект, хоча раніше мало зналась на футболі. Тепер, дослідивши всю історію турніру, українську підготовку до Євро та навіть нюанси будівництва чотирьох стадіонів у приймаючих містах, полюбила футбол так само сильно, як і її трирічний син. Що можна сказати про Україну за 30 секунд? Для Ксенії Симонової рідна земля – це країна-казка. З казково чуйними, справжніми людьми, які спираються на тисячолітні цінності, з енергетично сильними місцями, з багатою розмаїтою культурою.

uro has been joined even by the winner of the first season of the “Ukraine has got talent!” show, Kseniya Simonova from Yevpatoriya. The artist recently took part in shooting an advertising video clip for the football championship. The 30-second-long stylish “sand video” entitled “We shall meet in Ukraine” has been released in three languages at the order of Ukraine’s Culture and Tourism Ministry for promotion of the European Championship. The clip, which is already being broadcast on central TV channels in Russia, Belarus and Poland, puts the emphasis on our country’s uniqueness. The video picture is warm and full of love towards the native country; it shows three major places in the country: Kyiv, Crimea and the Carpathians flow, transform into each other. In Kseniya’s opinion, in addition to natural resources, Ukraine also has plenty of kind and hospitable people, which is also the best advert for their country. “Sand animation is a rare kind of art. I hope the clip produced in original form will rouse interest towards our country and will attract the attention of our neighbours,” Kseniya emphasized. Meanwhile, “We shall meet…” is just the first part out of three. The sand promo campaign has been structured in such a way that will reveal the main idea gradually. The objective of the first clip is to excite and to arouse interest. Football will be touched upon only in the last video planned to be released on the eve of the championship. Kseniya says that she joined the project with pleasure, though previously she knew little about football. Now, having studied the entire history of the tournament, Ukraine’s preparation for the EURO and even nuances of construction of four stadiums in host cities, she loves football the same way as her three-year-old son. What can be said about Ukraine in 30 seconds? The native land is a fairy tale country for Kseniya Simonova. It has got incredibly responsive frank people guided by millennia-old values; it has got energetically powerful places and a rich and diverse culture.

Чотири міста – чотири фан-зони Матчі футбольного чемпіонату Євро2012 побачить кожний п’ятий мешканець планети. Найпалкіші вболівальники поїдуть за своїми командами спостерігати за матчами. Сотні тисяч гостей завітають до країни. Водночас вболіватимуть на Євро і мільйони українців.

раховуючи величезну конкуренцію на квитки, не всі зможуть потрапити на матчі. Багато хто надасть перевагу вболіванню у неформальній атмосфері фан-зони. Для цього кожне приймаюче місто спільно з УЄФА створює по одній офіційній фан-зоні. Майданчики, які розмістять у центрі міст-господарів, вміщатимуть від 35 тис. уболівальників (у Львові) до 90 тис. (у Києві). Вони запропонують своїм гостям увесь спектр послуг, необхідний для комфортного перегляду матчів й відпочинку вболівальників. Ігри транслюватимуть на великих екранах, які встановлять на сцені та по периметру. На території розмістять крамниці для продажу ліцензованої продукції, намети із їжею, напоями та сувенірами. 24

Для преси у фан-зонах облаштують медіа-центри, решта ж гостей зможе безкоштовно користуватися Wi-Fi доступом до Інтернету. Територію підключать до комунікацій, по периметру встановлять достатню кількість санітарних приміщень, відповідно до обсягів майданчика. Тут працюватимуть із уболівальниками здебільшого волонтери. Неподалік розташуються медики, правоохоронці, пожежники й інші спецслужби, відповідальні за безпеку. Периметр, внутрішнє коло, входи та виходи охоронятимуть стюарди та недержавні охоронці, а зовнішнє оточення фан-зони – міліціонери. За порядком по всій території стежитимуть відеокамери, які дозволять координаційному штабу швидко реагувати на події, надати допомогу чи попередити правопорушення.

Поруч із майданчиками будуть фанпосольства, в яких гості Євро зможуть проконсультуватися, отримати карти, путівники, буклети, інформацію про турнір і місто. Стаціонарні посольства розмістять у будівлях поруч із єврооб’єктами, мобільні – в наметах чи авто біля місць скупчення фанів. Посольство кожного міста отримає власну емблему, а волонтерів одягнуть в яскраву форму, тож гості легко впізнають їх у натовпі. Безпеку, комфорт та відкритість майданчиків приймаючі міста забезпечать впродовж всіх днів турніру – з 8 червня до 1 липня. Українські фан-зони, хоча й відрізнятимуться одна від одної за кількістю гостей, місцем розташування, наповненням і програмою – всі відповідатимуть європейським стандартам.

four fan zones One in every five people living on our planet will watch matches of the EURO 2012 Football Championship. The most devoted fans will travel together with their teams to follow the matches. Hundreds of thousands guests will visit the country. At the same time, millions of Ukrainians will be Euro fans.

aking into account great competition for tickets, not everyone will be able to attend the matches. Many people will prefer to support their teams in informal atmosphere of a fan zone. For this purpose, each host city jointly with UEFA will establish one official fan zone. The grounds which will be located in the centre of host cities will have a capacity from 35,000 fans (in Lviv) to 90,000 (in Kyiv). They will offer their guests the complete scope of services necessary for fans to view matches and to enjoy themselves in comfort. The games will be broadcast on large screens which will be installed on a stage and along the perimeter. Shops selling licensed products, tents with food, drinks and souvenirs will be located on the territory. Media centres for the press will be equipped in fan zones, and the remaining

guests will be able to use Wi-Fi access to the Internet free of charge. The territory will be connected to communications, and the sufficient number of utility cores will be installed along the perimeter in accordance with the size of the ground. In the main it will be volunteers who will work with fans. Doctors, law-enforcers, fire-fighters and other special services in charge of security will be nearby. The perimeter, the internal circle, entrances and exits will be guarded by stewards and non-government security servicemen, while policemen will guard the fan zone from outside. Order in the whole territory will be monitored by video cameras which will enable the coordinating headquarters to rapidly react to the developments, to provide assistance or to prevent infringements of law.

There will be fan embassies beside the grounds where EURO guests will be able to get consultations and to receive maps, guidebooks, booklets, information about the tournament and the city. Stationary embassies will be placed in buildings beside EURO facilities, and mobile ones – in tents or vehicles near the places of fans’ gathering. Each city’s embassy will have its own emblem, and volunteers will be dressed in bright uniforms, so guests will easily recognize them in a crowd. Host cities will ensure security, comfort and openness in the grounds in the course of all tournament days: from 8 June till 1 July. Despite having differences from each other, all Ukrainian fan zones will comply with European standards in terms of the number of guests, place of location, capacity and programme. UKRAINE 2012 25

У Донецьку фан-зона Євро-2012 буде розташована на алеї перед стадіоном «Шахтар». Загальною площею в 9,34 га, вона зможе вмістити до 80 тис. фанів. Головну сцену розмістять перед будівлею стадіону. На ній встановлять основний екран для трансляції матчів чемпіонату (розміром близько 120 кв.м) та додаткові екрани (50 кв.м) по обидві сторони території. Також планують спорудити додаткову сцену – танцмайданчик для проведення конкурсів і караоке з екраном (30 кв.м). Більш комфортні умови перебування у фан-зоні забезпечить VIP-зона, розрахована на близько 280 гостей. До неї буде окремий вхід, а також паркінг на 44 автомобілі. Загальна зона паркування дозволить розмістити 20 автобусів і близько 150 легкових автомобілів. У фан-зону можна буде потрапити через два входи – один з вул. Стадіонної, другий – з боку парку ім. Щербакова. Евакуаційних виходів передбачено сім. У дні матчу донецька фан-зона запропонує гостям спортивні конкурси та розваги, концерт від національних та місцевих гуртів, артистів, співаків та виконавців музики – від етно та ретро до сучасної музики. А у міжматчеві дні – конкурс з феєрверків, лазерне шоу, конкурс малюнків на кращий фан-банер, змагання з настільного футболу, боді-арт та фейс-арт на футбольну тематику й танцювальні композиції серед фанатів. 26

The EURO 2012 fan zone in Donetsk will be lo-

cated in an alley in front of the Shakhtar stadium. It will be able to accommodate up to 80,000 fans as its area is 9.34 ha. The main stage will be placed in front of the stadium building. The major screen for broadcasting matches of the championship (approximately 120 sq.m. in size) and additional screens (50 sq.m. each) will be placed on it on both sides of the territory. It has been also planned to build an additional stage: a dancing ground for holding contests and karaoke with a screen (30 sq.m.). More comfortable conditions of staying in the fan zone will be ensured in the VIP zone with a capacity of around 280 guests. It will have a separate entrance, along with a parking area for 44 cars. It will be possible to enter the fan zone through two entrances: one from Stadionna Street, and the other from the side of Shcherbakov Park. Seven emergency exits have been envisaged: should an emergency arise, they will be opened and marked with signs. The coordinating headquarters which will take care of fans security will be placed in the athletic arena building. On match days the Donetsk fan zone will offer its guests sporting contests and entertainment, a concert of national and local bands, actors, singers and musicians: from ethno and retro to modern music. During those days between matches, there will be a firework competition, a laser show, drawing contest for the best banner, competitions in table football, body art and face art dedicated to football themes and dancing competitions among fans.

буде розташована в центральній частині міста – на Майдані Незалежності та вулиці Хрещатик. Загальною площею на 51 тис. кв.м, вона зможе вмістити 70 тис. уболівальників, а в день фінального матчу – до 90 тис. У фан-зоні встановлять сцену з великим екраном (8,2х14,6 м), а також два додаткових екрани (6,7х11,9 м), які дозволять дивитися матчі з будьякого боку. Також організують зону для осіб з обмеженими можливостями та VIP-зону на 350 кв.м зі своєю інфраструктурою, окремим входом і під’їздом. Тут облаштують санітарно-технічні зони, встановлять 200 туалетів, в тому числі 10 для осіб з особливими потребами, і контейнери для сміття. Ділянка, на якій створять фан-зону, має зручне транспортне сполучення, перебуває у безпосередній близькості до чотирьох станції метрополітену та зупинок громадського транспорту. До того ж, дістатися до неї від євроарени НСК «Олімпійський» можна пішки. Потрапити на майданчик можна буде через вісім загальних входів, а у разі необхідності тут на додачу до п’яти виходів відкриють ще 17 евакуаційних. Охоронятимуть фан-зону та прилеглу територію цілодобово. Розважати своїх гостей столична фан-зона буде рок та джаз фестивалями, концертами українських та світових зірок естради, а також численними конкурсами. Щодня тут визначатимуть найяскравішого вболівальника й щотижня – проводитимуть конкурс «Міс фан-зона».

will be located in the central part of the city: on Independence Square and Khreshchatyk Street. With a total area of 51,000 sq.m., it will be able to accommodate 70,000 fans, and 90,000 fans on the day of the final match. A stage with a large screen (8.2 x 14.76 m) will be placed in the fan zone, along with two additional screens (6.7 x 11.9 m each) which will make possible the viewing of matches from any side. A zone for people with restricted mobility and a VIP zone with an area of 350 sq.m., with its own infrastructure, a separate entrance and access, will be also organized. Technical and utility cores will be arranged there, 200 toilets will be placed, including 10 for people with special needs, and containers for garbage. The ground where the fan zone will be organized has convenient transport connections, is located in the immediate vicinity from four subway stations and public transport stops. Besides this, it will be possible to walk from the Olympic NSC arena to get there. It will be possible to enter the ground through eight public entrances, and should the necessity arise, 17 emergency exits will be opened in addition to five ones. The fan zone and the adjacent territory will be guarded 24 hours a day. Guests of the fan zone in the capital city will be entertained by rock and jazz festivals, concerts of Ukrainian and world pop stars, along with numerous contests. Львів організує фан-зону на найбільшій площі міста – проспекті Свободи, від вулиці Торгової до вулиці П.Дорошенка. Загальна площа майданчику у 20 тис. кв.м вмістить до 35 тис. уболівальників. У дні матчів фанзона працюватиме з 12:00 до 24:00, в інші дні – з 14:00 до 22:00. На території встановлять два великі екрани, а також сцену для перегляду матчів чемпіонату та розважальної програми. Крім того, тут буде ресторан, крамниця офіційного дистриб’ютора спортивних товарів, торгівельні намети й санітарна зона. Увійти на територію можна буде через два входи, які розташують поруч із місцями із найбільшим транспортирним сполученням. Також на території фан-зони будуть основні екстрені служби, МНС, МВС та пункт медичної допомоги. Щодня на гостей турніру чекатимуть змагання з міні-футболу, конкурси та забави. 28

Lviv will organize its fan zone in its largest square,

Prospekt Svobody, from Torhova Street to P. Doroshenka Street. The ground, with a total area of 20,000 sq.m, will accommodate up to 35,000 fans. It will operate from 12:00 till 24:00 on match days and from 14:00 till 22:00 on other days. Two large screens will be installed on the territory, along with a stage for viewing matches of the championship and an entertainment programme. Besides this, there will be a restaurant, an official sports items distributor’s shop, sales tents and utility cores here. It will be possible to enter the territory through two entrances which will be located near the places with the best transport connections. The territory of the fan zone will also have major emergency services, stations of the Emergencies Ministry and Interior Ministry and a medical post. Guests of the tournament can anticipate competitions in mini football, contests and entertainment every day.

У Харкові фан-зону Чемпіонату Європи розмістять на найбільшій площі Європи – площі Свободи. Вона посідає понад 22 тис. кв.м і зможе прийняти до 45 тис. уболівальників. Сцену зведуть поряд із готелем «Харків». Матчі транслюватимуть на 3 екранах, з яких 2 розташують по периметру. Поруч із сценою планують створити окремий майданчик для людей з обмеженими можливостями, розрахований на близько 100 осіб. Також на території організують VIP-зону на 250 осіб із окремою інфраструктурою. У фан-зоні буде п’ять входів та чотири евакуаційні виходи. Біля них встановлять камери схову, де гості зможуть лишити свої речі. На вході до майданчика проведуть перевірку вболівальників та інструктаж з поводження. Впродовж турніру фанів розважатимуть кращі ді-джеї, рок-групи і джаз-бенди, циркачі, фольклористи й колективи драматичних та лялькових театрів. У концертних програмах також використають сучасні проекційні шоу, водно-лазерні шоу та музичні феєрверки.

За рік до чемпіонату континенту в Україні і Польщі грандіозне свято спорту «Початок Євро-2012» відбулося в Канаді. Беспрецедентний футбольний турнір зібрав команди, які представляюь спортивні клуби чисельної української і польської діаспор.

а Торонто вибір припав не випадково. Саме столиця провінції Онтаріо є центром української і польської діаспор у Канаді. Наших співвітчизників тут проживає близько 200 тисяч, поляків – у півтора рази більше. Слід зазначити, що українці тут мають дуже великий вплив буквально в усіх галузях. Саме працьовитість і, зокрема, наших співвітчизників дозволила Торонто увійти до десятки міст з найкращою економікою в світі. Тут діють українські кредитні спілки, які історично сформувалися як своєрідні каси взаємодопомоги, і в процесі розвитку стали міцними фінансовими установами з широким асортиментом послуг. В місті багато дитячих садків й школ, де вивчають українську мову, нашу культуру та історію. Двоє етнічних українців засідають у місцевому парламенті. В центрі Торонто, у «Хай-парку» встановлено пам’ятник Лесі Українки. Є 21 українська церква, спортивні товариства «Україна», «Карпати» та багато інших. Спортом №1 у Торонто, безперечно, є хокей. Тут розташовано славетний Зал хокейної слави, в якому помітне місце займають вихідці з України. Окремими стендами відзначена трійка воротарів – Террі Савчук, Джонні Бовер і Уолтер Брода. Провідне місце займають форварди Уоллі Становський, Майк Боссі (Босий), Джонні Буцик і Бронко Хорват із знаменитої трійки «Бостон Брюїнз» UKR-LINE, Бернард Федерко та Дейл Хаверчук. Є там і ключка Білла Мосієнко разом з трьома шайбами, які він закинув 23 березня 1952 року у ворота «Нью-Йорк Рейнджерс» за 21 (!) секунду. Увіковічено й президента Федерації хокею України Олександра Хорозова, який, знаходячись на посаді 38 років, має сторінку навіть у Книзі рекордів Гіннеса. Футбол європейський в Торонто ще завойовує популярність. Чемпіонат Європи в Україні і Польщі, ймовірно, дасть поштовх до його розвитку в Канаді. В усякому разі фестиваль «Початок Євро-2012» привернув увагу багатьох наших співвітчизників. «Презентацією чемпіонату ми намагалися заохотити канадських уболівальників до відвідання наступного року приймаючих Євро країн, – каже генеральній консул України в Торонто Олександр Данилейко. – Через популяризацію українського і польського футболу організатори, а ними, окрім наших посольств у Канаді і консульств у Торонто, виступали діаспорні громадські та футбольні об’єднання, мали на меті надати підтримку розвитку українських і польських клубів у Канаді». Крім популяризації чемпіонату Європи, через урочисті заходи в Торонто організатори популяризували імідж України як цікавий і привабливий напрямок для туризму. Цікаво, що на початку страшенний буревій ледве не зірвав презентаційний брифінг. Негода залишила частини майже

п’ятимільйонного міста без світла, а учні чотирьох шкіл були евакуйовані через неможливость продовжувати заняття. Ледь не постраждали і члени польської делегації – президент польської федерації футболу Гжегож Лято, тренер національної збірної Францішек Смуда та генеральний секретар польської футбольної асоціації Здзислав Кречина. Вранці вони вирушили на оглядини Ніагарського водоспаду, який знаходиться наподалік Торонто, і не змогли вчасно повернутися до міста. Сильний вітер змусив поліцію закрити міст, через який йде найкоротший шлях до Торонто, і нашим польским колегам довелося зробити 200-кілометровий гак, аби добратися до польського консульства. Врешті брифінг почали без польських друзів, які підключилися до розмови трохи згодом. Примітно, що всі заходи висвітлювалися в українських газетах та на телебаченні. Великий сюжет про цю подію та інтерв’ю з членами української делегації на всю країну було показано на монокультурному телевізійному каналі OMNI, на якому свій час мають громади багатьох національностей Канади. Журналісти, до речі, зуміли передати всі емоції, які вирували не тільки під час матчів, а й навіть коли наші представники, відомі в недалекому минулому футболісти Ігор Яворський та Анатолій Цибрій, давали майстер-класи учасникам турніру. Гадаю, ці уроки майстерності запам’ятаються дітлахам на все життя. В пресі висвітлювали найрізноманітніші теми: як купити квитки на Євро, якщо не пощастило в лотереї, чи насправді Україна взмозі добудувати всі об’єкти до Чемпіонату і чи взагалі можливо за рік звести все, що не було зроблено за

три роки. Цікавило навіть те, з якого матеріалу виготовлятимуться крісла на нових стадіонах, наскільки збільшиться пропускна спроможність нових терміналів аеропортів, чи

можна буде під час Євро в Києві недорого похарчуватися і безпечно обміняти гроші, чи зможуть вболівальники з Канади користуватися своїми мобільними телефонами... Презентаційні заходи завершувалися двома футбольними матчами між збірними клубів української та польської діаспор. Ветеранські збірні діаспор розійшлися миром – 2:2, а ось молодіжна команда Польщі зуміла взяти гору над українськими однолітками – 6:1. Напередодні змагань за участю посла України в Канаді Ігора Осташа та Генерального консула в Торонто Олександра Данилейка в українському клубі-ресторані «Золотий лев» члени громадської організації «Четверта хвиля» організували зустріч гостей з України з численними представниками різних спортивних та громадських організацій українців Торонто. Під час неї в одного з керівників «Четвертої хвилі» Івана Бокого народилася ідея проводити в Україні щорічний кубок серед футбольних команд української діаспори Північноі Америки. Велике захоплення у присутніх викликали журнали, що видає інформаційний центр «Ukraine 2012» і альбом дитячих малюнків і творів «Євро очима українських школярів». Крім того, з’явилася ідея провести конкурс малюнків на тему Євро серед дітей української громади Торонто і провінції Онтаріо, яка відразу була з ентузіазмом підтримана як українськими дипломатами так і, звичайно, нашим центром «Україна-2012». Примітно, що майже всі, з ким я спілкувався в Торонто, мають намір обов’язково поїхати на чемпіонат і підтримати українську збірну. З огляду на це двох на тиждень прямих авіарейсів компанії «АероСвіт», єдиного перевізника на лінії Торонто-Київ, може виявитися замало. Залишається сподіватися, що авіакомпанія та українська авіаційна влада зможуть переконати канадську сторону у потребі збільшення частотності польотів між країнами хоча б до трьох на тиждень. Не

менш серйозною є й проблема з квитками на матчі, і як її можна вирішити – поки не зрозуміло. Але зважаючи на те, що численна українська громада за кордоном буде вболівати на Євро не тільки біля екранів своїх телевізорів, можливо Федерації футболу України треба зі своєї квоти виділити частину квитків для українців, що мешкають за кордоном? На завершувальному гала-бенкеті в польському культурному центрі лунало дуже багато промов, але найбільше оплесків зірвали побажання до присутніх зустрітися ще раз в такому ж складі на фінальному матчі Євро-2012 між збірними Польщі та України. Звичайно, всі були тільки за такий фінал. The grand sports feast “Euro 2012 Start” was held in Canada a year before the continental championship in Ukraine and Poland begins. The unprecedented football tournament has brought together the teams representing numerous sports clubs of the Ukrainian and Polish Diasporas.

t is not accident that Toronto was chosen as the venue of the tournament. The capital of Ontario Province is actually the centre of Ukrainian and Polish Diasporas in Canada. There are around 200,000 of our compatriots living here, and the number of Poles is 1.5 times higher. It should be noted that Ukrainians actually have great influence here in all spheres. Among other factors, precisely the diligence of our compatriots enabled Toronto to join the group of 10 cities in the world with the best economy. Ukrainian credit unions operate here; they were established historically as sort of loan-societies and became strong financial institutions in the course of development, providing broad spectrum of services. There are many kindergartens and schools in the city where the Ukrainian language, our culture and history are taught. Two ethnic Ukrainians are local parliament members. A monument to Lesya Ukrainka has been erected in High Park in downtown Toronto. There are 21 Ukrainian churches, Ukraine and Karpaty sports associations and many others. Undoubtedly, hockey is the number one sport in Canada. The renowned hall of sports glory is located here, and people originating from Ukraine have got notable position in it. Special stands are dedicated to three goalkeepers: Terry Sawchuk, Johnny Bower and Walter Broda. Forwards Wally Stanowski, Mike Bossy (Bosyy), Johnny Buczyk and Bronko Horvat from the Boston Bruins UKR-LINE three, Bernard Federko and Dale Hawerchuk have got first place here. There is also Bill Mosienko’s hockey stick here, with three pucks scored against New York Rangers on 23 March 1952 in 21 (!) seconds. The President of the Ukrainian Hockey Federation, Oleksandr Khorozov, has been also perpetuated here: having held his post for 38 years, he even has a personal page in the Guinness Book of Records. European football is still gaining popularity in Toronto. The European Championship in Ukraine and Poland is likely to give an impulse to its development in Canada. Anyway, the EURO 2012 Start festival attracted the attention of numerous of our compatriots. “By presenting the championship, we tried to encourage Canadian fans to visit EURO host countries next year,” the Ukrainian Consul-General in Toronto, Oleksandr Danyleyko, said. “The organizers, not only our Embassy and Canada and Consulate in Toronto, but also diaspora public and football associations, were aiming at providing support to Ukrainian and Polish clubs in Canada through popularization of Ukrainian and Polish football.” During the festivities in Toronto, in addition to popularization of the European Championship, organizers also popularized Ukraine’s image as an interesting and attractive direction for tourism It is interesting to note that a terrible storm almost foiled the presentation briefing at the very beginning. Bad weather left some parts of the city with a population of five million without electricity, and pupils of four schools were evacuated because continuation of classes was impossible. Members of the Polish delegation, President of the Polish Football Federation Grzegorz Lato, coach of the national team Franciszek Smuda and Secretary-General of the Polish Football Association Zbigniew Krecina escaped an accident. They headed for the Niagara Falls located not far from Toronto in the morning, but did not manage to return to the city in time. Strong wind forced the police to close the bridge, which is the shortest way to Toronto, and our Polish colleagues had to make a 200-kilometre trek to reach the Polish Consulate. The briefing began at last without the Polish friends, and they joined the conversation some time later. It is notable that all events were highlighted in Ukrainian newspapers and on TV. A sizable report on this event and an interview with members of the Ukrainian delegation was broadcast for the whole country on the mono-cultural TV channel OMNI where communities of many Canadian ethnic groups have their own air time. and Anatoliy Tsybriy, well known in the recent past, gave master classes to participants of the tournament. I think children will remember these lessons for all their lives. The media highlighted different subjects: how people can buy tickets to EURO if they had bad luck in a lottery, whether Ukraine is able to complete the construction of all objects for the championship, indeed, and whether it is really possible to complete everything in one year that had not been built in three years. They were even interested in the materials of which chairs in new stadiums would be made, the extent to which the throughput capacity of new airport terminals would be increased, whether it would be possible to get affordable meals and safely exchange money in Kyiv during the Euro, whether Canadian fans would be able to use their mobile phones… The presentation events were completed with two football matches between combined teams from the Ukrainian and Polish Diasporas. The Veteran Diaspora teams ended in a draw – 2:2, while the youth Polish team managed to gain a victory over Ukrainians of the same age: 6:1. Members of the Fourth Wave public organization organized a meeting for Ukrainian guests with numerous representatives of different Ukrainians’ sports and public organizations of Toronto at the Golden Lion restaurant, in which Ukraine’s Ambassador to Canada Ihor Ostash and Consul-General in Toronto Oleksandr Danyleyko took part. During this meeting, one of the Fourth Wave leaders Ivan Bokiy initiated the idea of holding an annual cup among football teams of the Ukrainian North American Diaspora in Ukraine. The journals published by the Information Centre Ukraine-2012 and the album of children’s drawings and literary works “EURO through the eyes of Ukrainian school pupils” were enthusiastically accepted by those present. Besides this, the initiative was put forward to hold a drawing contest dedicated to EURO among children from the Ukrainian community of Toronto and Ontario Province; it was enthusiastically supported at once both by the Ukrainian diplomats and, of course, by the Information Centre Ukraine-2012. It is notable that almost everyone with whom I spoke in Toronto, have a firm intention to visit the championship and to support the Ukrainian national team. Taking into consideration the two direct Aerosvit flights per week by the sole carrier on the Toronto-Kyiv route, this may turn out to be insufficient. It remains to be hoped that the airline and the Ukrainian aviation authorities will be able to convince the Canadian side of the need to increase the number of flights between the countries to at least three per week. No less serious is the problem with match tickets, and the ways of resolving it are not clear yet. But in view of

the fact that the large Ukrainian community abroad will support EURO participants not only at their TV screens, could it be worth the Football Federation of Ukraine allocating some of the tickets from their quota to Ukrainians living abroad? Many speeches were made at the final gala banquet at the Polish cultural centre, but the wish to everyone present to meet again in the same composition at the EURO 2012 final match between Polish and Ukrainian national teams won a round of applause. Our company is a Ukrainian-Polish one, so we always support the various activities held by representatives of the Ukrainian and Polish communities in Toronto, says John. It’s not necessarily sports, he adds. We often support the arts and cultural events, everything that will help further establish good relations between the Ukrainian and Polish communities. Events in Toronto are dedicated to EURO 2012, which will take place on the football fields of our two countries next year. If we talk about Ukraine then, in your view, what will staging the European Championship give it? It will give, but it is already giving! Ukraine could only dream about getting free advertising for the whole wide world! Of course, such large-scale events will enable Ukraine to build its national infrastructure. New airports, hotels, roads, great stadiums - everything is now under construction, and without these things it would be impossible today to even imagine a modern, civilized country impossible. Hundreds of thousands of tourists from around the world who will come to Ukraine and really learn about the culture and traditions of our beautiful homeland. I say our homeland as, despite the fact that I’ve been living in Canada for a long time now, I feel that I am Ukrainian. Will you visit EURO 2012? Definitely! We and our partners and friends are planning to see as many matches as we can, but we have a problem as none of us won the ticket lottery ... However, I hope that we can resolve this problem somehow. Не тому, що ціль недосяжна, – навпаки, як показала збірна Греції сім років тому, щасливий квиток може витягнути навіть записний середнячок. Проте подібних випадків історія континентальних чемпіонатів знає лише два: 1992 року темною конячкою до переможного фінішу також прискакали данці. В решті випадків неодмінно перемагали явні фаворити, причому їх коло на фінальних змаганнях, як правило, обмежувалося чотирма-п‘ятьма провідними збірними.

Кожен з них мав бажання очолити першу команду, навіть Яковенко – вмовити його могли, адже перед ним на кін поставили не лише Євро-2012, а й потенційні Олімпійські ігри, право на участь в яких сам же Павло Олександрович сподівається здобути на континентальній першості в Данії з молодіжною збірною. На Виконкомі, де вирішувалася доля головного футбольного керманича, він, як і конкуренти, також мав слово, проте вирішив подякувати за довіру і відмовитися. Врешті з двох кандидатів функціонери поставили на Блохіна – за нього віддали голоси 19 членів з 27. Отже, в Чистий четвер за рік до Євро національна збірна нарешті отримала головного тренера. Працювати доведеться під шаленим тиском

Пікантності ситуації додає те, що в понеділок Олег Володимирович був у нас в гостях в Інформаційному центрі «Україна-2012» і запевняв, що його ніхто нікуди не запрошує. Про роботу попередників новий головний тренер розповідає стримано, але віддає їм належне, адже, за його словами, всі роблять одну справу – працюють на спільний результат. Хто краще, хто гірше, але, в підсумку, дивіденди отримує країна. Чим вони більші, тим вище реноме українського футболу. «Я з повагою ставлюся до роботи інших людей, – аналізує гру збірної тренер. – Але в мене своє бачення, тож будуватиму команду за своїми ідеями. На мій погляд, треба зміцнювати захист. Від нього залежить підсумковий результат. Необхідно також налагодити зв’язки між ланками, бо розриви між лініями приводять до поганих наслідків. Через це я вирішив переглянути коло кандидатів. Воно не складатиметься з 50-ти футболістів, проте декого я запрошу навіть з лави запасних провідних клубів. Реалії такі, що на поле в складі «Шахтаря», «Динамо» або «Дніпра» здебільшого виходять легіонери, а українці вимушені обмежуватися тренувальним процесом з ігровою практикою в дублюючому складі. Та якщо нам цей гравець потрібний, він обов’язково отримає шанс. Можливо – два. Не більше. На даному етапі цього буде достатньо, щоб побачити, хоче людина грати в національній команді, чи ні». Кандидатів до збірної Олег Блохін проглядатиме вже в найближчих матчах з Узбекистаном та Францією. Є, щоправда, одна перешкода. В цей час молодіжна команда готуватиметься до Євро-2012. Тож Ярмоленка, Коноплянку, Ракицького, Степанека та Кравця на ці товариські зустрічі не викликатимуть. «Я прекрасно розумію, що команді Павла Яковенка поставили не менш вагоме завдання, – розмірковує керманич. – Виграти молодіжну першість континенту й потрапити на Олімпіаду теж хочеться. Тут треба шукати компроміс. В будь-якому випадку, за національною командою має залишатися останнє слово».

Минуле, коли перед відбірним циклом чемпіонату світу в Німеччині тренер заявив про вихід з групи з першого місця, зараз він згадує з гордовитою посмішкою. Тоді, врешті, і легше було, хоча зі свого шляху довелося прибрати чемпіонів Європи греків та дуже непоступливих Туреччину і Данію. Йому тоді самому набридло, що українська команда на шляху до фіналу традиційно зупинялася на стадії плейофф. Аби більше не гратися з долею в стикових зустрічах, вихід був один – виграти груповий турнір. Нині ж завдання дещо інше, хоча тренер його трохи й підкорегував. «Можна поставити будь-яку ціль. Врешті, так треба й робити, – корегує завдання тренер. – Втім, на таких турнірах є багато складових. Згадайте збірну СРСР моїх часів. Сильно грали, але з 1976 року до 1988-го у фінальних частинах участі не брали. Або подивіться на статистику збірної Англії. Вони навіть чемпіонами світу були, а на Євро жодного разу навіть у фінал не виходили. Завдання виграти чемпіонат Європи я прийняв, але в перспективі. На Євро-2012 поставлена конкретна ціль – вийти з групи. Це обов’язкова програма. Від цієї печі й будемо танцювати. А далі видно буде. Йтимемо до мети поетапно». Блохін вже знає, за яким принципом комплектуватиме команду. Розшифровуючи феномен київського «Динамо» зразка 1975 року, він згадує, який наплив молодих футболістів був тоді, і як їм вдалося показувати не за віком зрілу гру. «Тоді нас в команду прийшло п’ятеро гравців-однолітків. Самі, звичайно, ми б такого успіху не досігли, – каже наставник збірної. – Досвіду набували поруч з ветеранами, які зуби з’їли у великому футболі. При цьому ніхто не тягнув простирадло на себе. Була команда, націлена на загальний результат. Врешті ми його й досягли, вигравши Суперкубок Європи. Схожа ситуація проглядається й зараз. Є дуже цікава молодь, проте не факт, що вони зможуть вирішувати завдання без аксакалів. Тому кістяк моєї збірної складатиметься з досвідчених футболістів. Є Шевченко, Тимощук, Шовковський, Воронін. Навколо них згуртовуватиметься вся команда». Складність комплектації збірної полягає також у тому, що в порівнянні з провідними футбольними країнами вибір гравців у нас не дуже великий. Коли є по 2-3 кандидатури на місце, тоді легше відбувається зміна поколінь. Хоча й у наших реаліях оновлення збірної йде за планом. «Подивіться, наприклад, на збірну Франції, – порівнює Блохін. – Провалилися на чемпіонаті світу – нічого страшного. Роблять нову команду. І, повірте, на Євро2012 вона змагатиметься за перші місця. Те ж саме можна сказати про Італію. На жаль, з 2006 року у нас не змінилася ситуація з лімітом на легіонерів. До того ж, чотири клуби, які є базовими для збірної, грають різними стилями. Наше завдання зробити з них монолітний колектив. Гадаю, нам це вдасться. Як і завершити оновлення першої команди, яке розпочалося одразу після чемпіонату світу в Німеччині. На Євро збірна має виглядати гідно. The task to win the European Championship that was set the chief coach of the national team seems likely to discourage anyone from queuing up for the vacant position left after Myron Markevych. This is not for the reason that the goal is unattainable: on the contrary, the Greek national team demonstrated seven years ago that even a team regarded as a middling one could have a run of luck.

owever, there are only two cases of this kind known in the history of continental championships: the Danish team was also the dark horse which reached the victorious finish back in 1992. Obvious favourites were the ones to gain victory in all other cases, and as a rule, their circle during the final competitions was limited to four or five leading national teams. The number of teams of this kind presently approaches 10, and three of them had reached the semi-final during the recent World Cup (Germany, Holland and Spain), while three others had reached the Mundiale semi-final in Germany (Portugal, France and Italy). Speaking frankly, reaching the top through this solid wall presently seems to be hardly possible for our national team. Meanwhile, there were volunteers wishing to man the breach on their own will. The Football Federation does not disclose their number, but now it already seems unnecessary. Three people have reached the home stretch: Yuriy Kalytvyntsev, Pavlo Yakovenko and Oleh Blokhin. Each of them was willing to head the first team, even Yakovenko: he could be persuaded, as not only EURO 2012, but also the potential Olympic Games were placed as his stake, and Pavlo Yakovenko himself hopes to get the right to take part in them in some more than a month at the continental championship in Denmark with the youth team. At the Executive Committee meeting where the decision on the future chief football supervisor was due to be taken, he was given the floor, the same way as his competitors, but he decided to thank for the confidence put in him and to refuse. Finally, the officials staked on Blokhin from among the two candidates, and 19 members out of 27 cast their votes for him. Thus, the national team finally got its chief coach on Easter Thursday, a year before the Euro. It will be necessary to work under incredible pressure

Zest has been added to the situation by the fact that Oleh Blokhin visited the Information Centre Ukraine-2012 on Monday and assured us that nobody had invited him anywhere. He got the proposal from the Ukrainian Football Federation the next day and received congratulations two days after that. The parties even did not manage to discuss the terms of the contract, its financial provisions and seemingly the final goal of the national team and the coach for EURO. These issues were already agreed as a matter of procedure. “All responsibility presently lies on me,” the newly appointed old chief coach says, sharing his impressions. “When UKRAINE 2012 41

I spoke to Executive Committee members, it was even easier. Now, when some time has passed, I begin feeling pressure from the side of the news media. I am convinced that it will grow every day. Due to the fact that the Golden Ball winner received an invitation to take part in the contest for the post of the coach at the last moment, he even did not manage to ultimately form the coaches’ council. “Of course, I had certain people in view, and I was looking forward to working with the national team together with them,” Blokhin said. “But in order to take the final decision on those with whom I shall advance shoulder-to-shoulder in the near future, I had first to speak to the coaches of the previous team. Giving preference to a particular person with a certain name is not of crucial importance for me. The higher they are, the better the reputation of Ukrainian football. “I treat other people’s work with respect,” the coach analyzes the national team’s play. “But I have got my own vision, and therefore I shall build the team in line with my ideas. In my opinion, defence should be intensified. The final result depends on it. It is also necessary to establish relations between the segments, as gaps between the lines lead to bad results. This is why I have decided to review the circle of candidates. It will not consist of 50 football players, but I shall invite some of them even to the reserves of the leading clubs. The reality is that there are mainly foreign players coming onto the field as Shakhtar, Dynamo or Dnipro players, while Ukrainians are forced to limit themselves to the training process with playing practice as alternate players. But if we need this player, he will get a chance for sure, or maybe even two, but not more. This will be enough at the present stage to see whether a man wants to play in the national team or not.” Oleh Blokhin will already be looking for candidates to the national team during the coming matches with Uzbekistan and France. Blokhin already knows the principle in line with which he will staff the team. The whole team will be united around them.” The difficulty of staffing the national team also lies in the fact that, compared to the leading football countries, we do not have a very big choice of players. Alternation of generations passes more smoothly when there are two or three contenders for each position. However, renewal of the national team is carried out in line with the schedule in our realities. “For example, look at the French national team,” Blokhin compares. “They failed at the World Cup, but nothing terrible happened. They form a new team. Believe me: it will compete for the first places during EURO 2012. The same can be also said about Italy. Unfortunately, the situation over the limit on foreign players has not changed here since 2006. Besides this, the four clubs which are the main ones making up the national team, play in different styles. Our task is to make a monolithic team out of them. I think we shall succeed in this, the same way as in the renewal of the first team which began immediately after the World Cup in Germany. The national team should look worthy at the EURO. It has been planned for the Bulgarian national football team to hold two friendly matches with the Ukrainian team. This was announced by the President of the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU), Borislav Mikhailov. According to him, the first match will be held in October this year (the most likely date is 7 October) on the field of the Vasil Levski Stadium in Sofia, and the other one in Ukraine in 2013. Колоритний екс-капітан збірної Франції Патріс Евра в житті не дуже примітний. Емоціїї завжди приховує. Волю їм може дати лише коли його слабкість ніхто не побачить. Або серед вірних товаришів. Так трапилося одного разу – на останньому чемпіонаті світу. Коли Анелька, Рібері, Тулалан і Абідаль висловили невдоволення роботою тренера, до бойкоту проти Раймона Доменека приєднався й тодішній капітан. Евра дискваліфікували на 5 матчів, здебільшого за те, що гравець з лідерською пов’язкою на руці має бути на боці тренера. Патріс гідно прийняв вирок, але принципами не поступився. The colourful former captain of the French national team, Patrice Evra, in not very noticeable in life. He always conceals his emotions. He can give way to them only when no-one can see his weakness, or among devoted friends. That happened once: at the most recent World Cup. When Anelka, Rib ry, Toulalan and Abidal expressed their dissatisfaction with the coach’s work, the captain joined boycotting Raymond Domenech. Evra was disqualified for five matches, mainly for the reason that the player with the leader’s armband should have been on the coach’s side. Patrice accepted the sentence with dignity, but he did not yield his principles. When everyone asked forgiveness, the world’s best left back kept an eloquent silence. much about the incident at the World Championship. We might have gone too far, indeed. But the problem was not only in the conflict. It could have been resolved within the team without outside help. But there was a leak of information. It was done by the person who bore us ill will. The point is not in Anelka, but in a traitor among us.” Newspapermen are known to have blown up the conflict to the level when fans are still unwilling to see the initiators of the scandal in the French national team. Even the transferring of funds from sponsors’ contracts for charity organized by the football players did not help the team to restore its positive image. Fans’ attitude became somewhat warmer when the tricolor team’s new coach Laurent Blanc personally proposed to bury the hatchet. But the captain’s band was not returned to Evra: the national team is presently led out to the field by Samir Nasri.

When you feel bad, recall your childhood. “I also happen to have

had hard times. Sometimes everything inside happens to boil up, and I wish to respond to rudeness. I find strength to restrain myself, as I am not alone in the field, and I am responsible for the result together with my partners. When I am already at home and unpleasant moments and offensive shouts come back to my memory, I recall my childhood. I say to myself: ‘Pat, recall the way you grew up. Do you feel worse now, indeed?’” Patrice is probably the only football player in the world who has 15 brothers and sisters (two of them died). He was born in Dakar to a diplomat’s family. Then the family moved to Belgium, and later on

settled in a Paris suburb. The district where they lived is famous because the star of the French national team forward, Thierry Henry, rose there. However, football was played outdoors there not more often than games with knives. It was thousand times easier to get behind the bars there than to Manchester United’s training facilities. When Evra wrote a composition about the future at school, he described his dream and … became a laughing stock for some months. Everything is forgiven to parents! “Do not think that my brothers

and sisters were born by the same mother. We are the children of my father’s three wives. He presently lives in Senegal and does not watch football. However, when he visited me in Manchester, I was in seventh heaven. But it so happened that I remained on the bench, and I could hardly hold back my tears.” Then, when Evra returned hope, he threw his boots into the wall and broke a picture. Then he bought a TV for his father, but he does not know whether the latter watches him. He bears no grudge against him, and helps him on different occasions. He does not visit him because he forever remembered their trip at the age of three when the family decided to return to the historic homeland. Later on, it influenced his decision to play for France, but not for Senegal.

Invent a goal and advance towards it every day. “My elder

brother believed in my liking for football. He assured mother that I would become a good player. Later on, he brought me to one of the children’s tournaments where the best ones were selected to youth teams. That was the end of my childhood.” Then Patrice was less than 17 years of age. When the Paris Saint-Germain

youth team ended the game, an agent came to him and offered him to try himself in Torino. After 10 days of monitoring, Evra was offered to remain in the youth team, but scouts from Sicilian Marsala were already watching near the field; the team was already playing in the Italian third division. It was the first time the fullback felt like a star. It was not for the reason that he played well: there was just not a single dark-skinned resident in the town. He was nicknamed “Black Gazelle” since then there. If you do not succeed, work twice as hard. “I happened to play in

different positions: first as a midfielderal, and then behind the forwards. I was made left midfielder at Monza. I had to read just myself and to master new skills. But I excited most of all after the transfer to Manchester United. I went out to the field, but was replaced after the first half when we lost 0:2. I thought the fairy tale had ended.” Evra was not bored for long. He knew that everything in life depended only on him. He confesses that, when everyone had rest during the holiday, he worked twice as hard as usual. When he was entrusted the position in the starting line-up, he did not give it back anymore, even when his foot was torn to the bone during one of the matches. He was playing for a month with… a chicken in a boot: he bought a breast and applied uncooked meat to the wound. He says it healed quickly. For becoming a legend, one has to play for a single club.

“I came to United having the Champions league final in Monaco behind my shoulders, along with a number of matches for the national team. I felt uneasy: I imagined the way the stadium would shout at me for inaccurate passing. Then, having got acquainted with the people, I understood that it was my team. There were offers to leave for Inter, there were attempts to interest me with money, but it is not worth trading good for better.” “During my seven years at Manchester United, I have got accustomed to the Old Trafford atmosphere to the extent that for the future I saw myself in the club’s museum beside Cantona, Giggs and Scholes. Their career is a model to be followed.” He is also willing to become a legend of Manchester, and in its turn, the club does not object. It punctiliously renews contracts, and also regularly increases salary. According to the new contract, Evra receives 100,000 pounds a week.

There is no future without history. “I shall write a book some time , and

I have even got its working name: “My Way to Old Trafford”. It began in Dakar, passed through Belgium, France and Italy and ended in England. The first thing I did in Manchester was visit a church. However, when I asked Gary Neville after my first training where a temple was located there, he was so surprised that he could not even remember.” Having visited the church, Evra vent to a bookshop and bought all literature about Manchester United. However, he soon understood that he would not cope with them until his old age because of his reading speed. He had to come back for cassettes. The electronic library of the world’s best left halfback presently contains complete material about the team. While studying it, Patrice imbues his mind with the spirit of the team and becomes an integral part of it.

Value relations, there are never too many friends. “I speak five lan-

guages. Life has forced me. I began improving my English when I failed to understand the coach’s instruction before the game that I was due to go out in the starting line-up and went to warm up with reserve players.” Patrice currently studies Korean. The reason is that he values friendship with Park Chu-Young. He got acquainted with the Korean back in Monaco when the latter painfully kicked the leg of the Frenchman playing for Paris Saint-Germain. But they became so close in Manchester United that sometimes use each other’s flats, their wives have the same name Patricia, and Patrice calls Chu-Young father “dad”.

BESIDES... Manchester United paid Monaco 5.5 million pounds for Evra. This transfer, along with the acquisition of Cristiano Ronaldo, is among the best ones carried out by Alex Ferguson. Eight of Evra’s brothers and sisters out of 25 were born by his mother. Evra received 150 dollars per month in Marsala, the first professional club where he played. His first car was a Volkswagen Golf. Evra presently drives a sports model Ferrari worth 200,000 pounds. Besides “Black Gazelle”, Evra has the nickname of “Cannibal”. Louis Saha called him this way because he always ate up everything and never left food on a plate.

Відомий своєю невгамовною енергією та ентузіазмом керівник італійської федерації Артеміо Франкі, який очолив УЄФА напередодні її 25-річного ювілею, взявся за справу, засукавши рукава. Незважаючи на те, що спадщина йому дісталася збиткова (турнір у Югославії фінішував із дефіцитом у 200 тисяч швейцарських франків), Артеміо і його команда досягли багато чого.

Саме Франкі наполіг, щоб жеребкування проводилося, виходячи з результатів ЧЄ-76, а не чемпіонату світу-78. Фактично всі пропозиції були спрямовані на те, щоб провести «міні-чемпіонат світу». Цей турнір по праву ввійшов до історії світового футболу як чудово організований, де були зняті всі питання щодо доцільності й самостійності європейських чемпіонатів. 20 вересня 1977 р. у Варшаві виконком УЄФА остаточно затвердив новий регламент європейської першості. Спочатку, як і раніше, були зіграні відбірні матчі в групах, а потім вісім кращих команд зустрілися в Італії, де боролися за чемпіонське звання. Причому, команда господарів уперше звільнялася від участі у відбірних матчах. Зміни торкнулися не лише формули розіграшу. Уперше у чемпіонату Європи з’явилися власні спонсори: «Соса», «Canon», «JVC» і «Seiko». Під керівництвом Франкі УЄФА стала не тільки однією з найшанованіших спортивних організацій, а й перетворилася на могутню фінансову структуру. Її річний обіг «стрибнув» за 8,5 мільйона швейцарських франків. У престижному кварталі Берна корпорація збудувала власний 16поверховий особняк «UEFA House», який розмістився майже на 8 тисячах квадратних метрів.

Крім того, вперше оргкомітет турніру провів конкурс на талісман та логотип чемпіонату Європи. Символіка чемпіонату набула цілком практичного значення. Гроші від продажу різноманітних речей і товарів з символікою склали левову частку доходів організаторів турніру. З безлічі варіантів журі вибрало проект міланського графіка П’єтро Граттона. Він запропонував як талісман чемпіонату Європи одного з найвідоміших у всьому світі італійців – персонаж казки Карло Коллоді Піноккіо. Італійський прапор був зображений у нього... на носі. Один недолік організаторів – їм не вдалося «підігріти» інтерес до окремих матчів. Ця проблема рельєфно виявилася під час фінального поєдинку. Вирішальний матч проводився в столиці Римі, на стадіоні «Стадіо Олімпіко» (86 500 глядачів). Однак арена виявилася заповненою лише на половину. А під час групового турніру на тому ж стадіоні матч між збірними Греції й Чехословаччини відвідало трохи більше чотирьох тисяч. Та найбільшим розчаруванням для А.Франкі стало те, що його команда не виграла чемпіонат і не зіграла навіть у фіналі.

Напередодні фінального турніру в Італії спалахнув гучний скандал, до якого був причетний нападаючий Паоло Россі – головна надія італійців. Скандал був пов’язаний із договірними іграми і підпільним тоталізатором. Італійська федерація дискваліфікувала Россі на три роки. Пізніше цей термін скоротили до двох років. У першому ж матчі фінального турніру групи «А» зійшлися ФРН і ЧССР – своєрідне дежа-вю фіналу чотирирічної давнини. Щоправда, виконавці головних ролей змінилися «за віком». Єдиний гол у матчі був забитий після нестандартно розіграної комбінації. Хансі Мюллер дістав м’яч, що виходив за бокову і з лівого флангу прокреслив діагональ до штанги, де передачу головою завершив Карл-Хайнц Румменіге. Реванш за бєлградську поразку відбувся. Два найяскравіших представники тотального футболу – збірна ФРН і Голландії – показали вибухову, атакуючу і динамічну гру. Однак західні німці діяли настирливіше й агресивніше у передній лінії. Яскраву й зрілу гру продемонстрував Бернд Шустер, за безпосередньої участі котрого було забито всі три м’ячі збірної ФРН. І якщо півзахисник «Кельна» роздавав передачі, то Клаус Аллофс – нападаючий дюссельдорфської «Фортуни» – забивав. Він став першим футболістом в історії фінальних турнірів європейських чемпіонатів, кому вдалося зробити «хет-трік». Безнадійно програючи 0:3, голландці змогли на деякий час відродити інтригу. Перший м’яч забив із пенальті Джонні Реп – у своїй штрафній проти Бена Вейнстекерса сфолив Лотар Маттеус. З’явившись на полі на 74-й хвилині, Маттеус дебютував у фінальних змаганнях великих міжнародних турнірів. Навряд чи тоді хтось міг передбачити, що він затримається у футболі такого високого рівня на двадцять років. І що саме Маттеус побуває на п’яти чемпіонатах світу, стане капітаном збірної і на цій «посаді» приведе її до перемоги на мундіалі. У другій групі був піднесений найбільший сюрприз: до фіналу вийшла збірна Бельгії, а команди Італії, Іспанії й Англії не змогли підкріпити

високі амбіції надійною й результативною грою. Не лише футболом запам’яталася боротьба. Саме з чемпіонату Європи-80 почалися безчинства англійських футбольних фанатів на міжнародному рівні. Коли до початку матчу Англія – Бельгія, розгромивши в Турині низку магазинів і кафе, поранивши кількох поліцейських, «гості» загрозливим натовпом вирушили в напрямку стадіону, влада, нарешті, прозріла. Багатьох заарештували, після бельгійського голу поліцейським довелося застосовувати сльозогінний газ – гумові палиці не допомогли. Вітер поніс пари газу з трибун на поле. Матч довелося зупинити. Допомогу надавали і футболістам, і арбітрові. УЄФА оштрафувала Англійську футбольну асоціацію на 13 тисяч швейцарських франків. Британська королева Єлизавета саме перебувала в Італії і, розповідають, спостерігала за ходом матчу по телевізору у Венеції. Королева публічно, в різкій форм, засудила дії своїх підданих. Те ж саме зробили англійський тренер Рон Грінвуд, самі футболісти. Завершальним акордом стала зустріч італійців і бельгійців. Господарям потрібна була лише перемога, бельгійців влаштовувала і нічия. «Скуадра адзурра» мала безліч моментів, але успіх цього дня був не на її боці. Разом із удачею відвернувся від італійців і португальський арбітр Гарріду, що не призначив стовідсотковий пенальті за гру рукою. Гідними фіналу, звичайно ж, були італійці, але потрапили туди бельгійці. У матчі за третє місце Чехословаччина й Італія зіграли внічию основний і додатковий час, а потім пробивали пенальті. З рахунком 9:8 виграла чехословацька команда. Головний матч чемпіонату очікувань не виправдав. Переміг фаворит, а сама гра була не дуже захоплюючою. Перший м’яч забили вже на десятій хвилині. Після майстерної передачі Шустера в лівий від Пфаффа кут забив Хорст Хрубеш. Йому судився й вирішальний гол на 89-й хвилині, після того, як бельгійці зрівняли з пенальті. Famous for his ever-active energy and enthusiasm, Italian Federation chief Artemio Franchi who came to head UEFA on the eve of its 25th jubilee rolled up his sleeves and got down to work. Despite the fact that the heritage he had got was loss-making (the tournament in Yugoslavia finished with a shortfall of 200,000 Swiss francs), Artemio and his team achieved much.

Namely Franchi was the one who insisted on conducting the draw based on the results of the 1976 European Championship, but not the ones of the 1978 World Cup. All proposals were actually aimed at holding a “mini world championship”. This tournament is rightfully remembered in the world football history as a well-organized one, during which all questions related to feasibility and selfdependency of European championships were removed. The UEFA Executive Committee ultimately approved the new European championships regulation on 20 September 1977 in Warsaw. The same way as previously, qualifying matches in groups were played first, and then eight best teams met in Italy to fight for the champion’s title. Meanwhile, that was the first case when the hosts’ team was exempted from participation in qualifying matches. Changes were applied not only to the tournament formula. The European Championship got its own sponsors for the first time: Cola, Canon, JVC and Seiko. Headed by Franchi, UEFA became not only one of the most respected sports organizations, but was also transformed into a strong financial entity. Its annual turnover “leaped” over 8.5 million Swiss francs. The corporation has built its own 16-storey UEFA House mansion in a prestigious area of Bern, located on the area of almost 8,000 square meters. Besides this, that was the first time when the organizing committee held a

contest for the best mascot and logo of the European championship. Symbols of the championship have acquired completely practical importance. Money earned from sales of different items and goods with symbols made up the lion’s share of tournament organizers’ revenues. The jury has chosen the design of graphic artist Pietro Gratton from Milan out of a multitude of versions. He had proposed one of the most famous Italians in the world, the character of fairy tale Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi, as the mascot of the European championship. The Italian flag was drawn on his… nose. The only organizer’s drawback was their failure to “stir up” interest in individual matches. This problem boldly revealed itself during the final match. The decisive match was held in the capital city of Rome on the Stadio Olimpico stadium (86,500 spectators). But the arena turned out to be only half full. The number of people who visited the match between the national teams of Greece and Czechoslovalia in the same stadium during the group tournament was slightly more than 4,000. But the major disappointment for A. Franchi was his team’s failure to win in the championship and even to play in the final.

“BELGIANS ARE THE MAJOR SURPRISE!”

Based on the qualifying tournament results, all the strongest teams reached the final part, except for the national teams of France and the Soviet Union which had failed to pass the qualifying “sieve”.

A juicy scandal arose in Italy on the eve of the final tournament, and Paolo Rossi, Italian’s main hope, was involved in it. The scandal was related to contracted games and clandestine sweepstakes. The Italian federation disqualified Rossi for three years. This term was later reduced to two years. The FRG and the CSSR met in the very first match in the A group: that was a kind of four-year-old déjà vu. However, performers of the leading roles changed “in age”… The only goal in the match was scored after a combination played in a non-standard way. Hansi Müller reached the ball mowing beyond the touch line and kicked diagonally in the direction of the post from the left flank, where the pass was finalized with the head of Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. The revenge for the Belgrade defeat had taken place. The two brightest total football representatives, national teams of the FRG and Holland, demonstrated explosive, attacking and dynamic playing. But the West Germans acted more persistently and aggressively at the front line. Impressive and mature playing was demonstrated by Bernd Schuster: all three goals of the FRG national team were scored with direct participation. While the Köln midfielder made passes, forward Klaus Allofs from Fortuna, Düsseldorf, scored goals. He was the first football player in the history of European championships’ final tournaments having managed to make a “hat trick”. The Dutchmen who were hopelessly losing with a score of 0:3 managed to make an intrigue for some time. The first penalty goal was scored by Johnny Rep: Lothar Matthäus fouled against Ben Wijnstekers in his penalty area. Having appeared on the field in the 74th minute, Matthäus made his debut in final competitions of major international tournaments. No-one was likely to predict at that time that he would remain in highlevel football of this kind for 20 years, than namely Matthäus would take part in five World Cups, would become the captain of the national team and, being the one, would lead it to a victory in the Mundial. The major surprise was given in the second group: Belgian national team reached the final, while teams from Italy, Spain and England failed to support their high ambitions with reliable and efficient play. The fighting was memorable

not only for football. English football fans’ outrage at international level began namely during the 1980 European Championship. The authorities finally opened their eyes when a menacing crowd of “guests” smashed up a number of shops and cafes and injured some policemen in Turin before the beginning of the match between England and Belgium, and then headed for the stadium. Many people were arrested, but policemen had to use tear gas after the Belgian goal, as blackjacks did not help. The wind drove gas evaporation from the stands to the field. The match had to be stopped. Aid was provided both to football players and the referee. UEFA fined the English Football Association 13,000 Swiss francs. Queen Elizabeth of Great Britain was in Italy namely at that time and reportedly followed the match on TV in Venice. The Queen condemned her citizens in public using sharp words. The same was done by English coach Ron Greenwood and the football players themselves. The match between the Italians and the Belgians became the final chord. The host needed only victory, while the Belgians could be satisfied with a draw. Squadra Azzura had a number of chances but success was not on their side that day. The same way as good luck, Portuguese referee Garrido also turned down the Italians, having not giving a 100-per-cent penalty for handball. Of course, the Italians deserved the final, but the Belgians were the ones who reached it. Czechoslovakia and Italy played in a draw in the match for the third place during ordinary and additional time, and then they took penalties. The Czechoslovak team won 9:8. The main match of the championship failed to live up to expectations. The favourite gained victory, and the play itself was not very captivating. The FRG national team gained victory in the European championship for the second time (after 1972).

За рік до Євро-2012 почали вимальовуватися контури майбутніх об’єктів. За кілька місяців здадуть в експлуатацію стадіон у Львові, перших відвідувачів зустріне НСК «Олімпійський», аеропорти Києва й Донецька готуються приймати літаки будь-яких категорій, а вболівальники зможуть розраховувати на комфортні номери в привабливих готелях. Причипурюється вся країна, лад наводиться не лише в містах, де проводитимуться матчі чемпіонату. Наплив туристів очікують Одеса і Ялта, Ужгород і Тернопіль, Чернігів і Полтава. Серед тих, хто не просто спостерігає осторонь, а безпосередньо переживає за здобутки на фронті будівництва країни до Євро, - заслужений майстер спорту Олена Говорова. Як і на Олімпіаді в Сіднеї, в звичайному житті її стрибок виявився настільки потужним, що у неї не залишилося конкурентів і в спортивній журналістиці.

ані Олена, ви є найчарівнішою ведучою в національному телепросторі. Як би, якщо трапиться така нагода, сприйняли пропозицію вести церемонію відкриття НСК «Олімпійський»? Дякую за комплімент. Звісно, погодилась би. Адже така нагода трапляється раз у житті. «Олімпійський» стане обличчям українського спорту в світі. Для мене це дуже відповідальна і почесна місія. Нині дуже багато розмов про те, що на об’єкти Євро використовується чимало коштів, і їх можна було б використати на інші потреби. Ви поділяєте таку точку зору? Це питання треба розглядати дещо з іншого боку. Я багато виступала за кордоном і бачила, в яких умовах живуть люди. Аеропорт, наприклад, це – обличчя країни в будь-якому її місті, Донецьку, Харкові, Сімферополі чи Одесі. Якщо ми хочемо викоренити комплекс меншовартості, то маємо на рівних почуватися з представниками Західної Європи. У нас так само мають бігати швидкісні потяги, дороги бути безпечними, а рівень сервісу піднятий на такий рівень, щоб не відбивалося бажання подорожувати країною. Не наша провина, що інфраструктура нам залишилася від радянського минулого. Але нам її вдосконалювати. За лопати необхідно було давно братися. А чемпіонат Європи з футболу став поштовхом до кардинальних змін.

Але ж це суто спортивне свято. Я б так не сказала. Спорт – це не тількі спортивні результати. На виступи спортсменів ходять як на виступи акторів або співаків. Спорт об’єднує людей. Чемпіонат Європи дивитимуться мільйони. За останні чотири роки ставлення до нас дуже змінилося. Місяц тому Донецьк приймав юніорський чемпіонат світу з хокею, незабаром там відбудеться світова першість з легкої атлетики, якої місто не бачило кілька десятків років. Київ виборов право провести дорослий чемпіонат світу серед хокеїстів, у чергу на проведення в нас турнірів високого рівня стають інші спортивні федерації. Нам повірили, і тепер від нас залежатиме, наскільки ця довіра закріпиться в очах світової спільноти. Якщо вдасться все робити так, як належить, то згодом зможемо розраховувати на проведення будь-яких змагань. Такі великі форуми, як правило, віддають країнам, які диктують моду в спорті. У нас же, скажімо, в зимових видах лише в біатлоні пробиваються перші паростки перемог. Їх і не буде, якщо не забезпечити спортсменів тренувальними майданчиками. На «Олімпійському» не лише в футбол гратимуть. Це буде сучасний комплекс, де можна проводити й легкоатлетичні змагання. Існує проблема заповнення арени, адже популярність королеви спорту у нас пока що не така, як у провідних країнах. Але для початку можна й одноденні турніри UKRAINE 2012 71

У нас немає центрів, які б відповідали необхідним умовам, ані в сноуборді, ані в лижних гонках, ані в біатлоні. Якщо побудувати в Карпатах сучасний центр зимових видів спорту, то й кількість бажаючих на них займатися істотно збільшиться. А чим вище конкуренція, тим кращі результати. Взагалі спорт треба розвивати не ситуативно, а в комплексі, щоб в кожному регіоні бажаючі реалізувати себе в спорті мали таку нагоду. Пані Олено, ви відвідали багато країн, кожна з них має свій колорит, відмінність. З чим, на ваш погляд, Україна асоціюється в іноземців? На жаль, цей набір не змінюється роками. Нас знають по перемогах братів Кличків, Сергія Бубки, Андрія Шевченка. І, на жаль, по трагедії в Чорнобилі. Це трохи образливо, адже нам є що показати, у нас живуть розумні й красиві люди, тільки про наші позитивні риси мало хто знає. Імідж треба створювати роками. Спортивні змагання в нашій країні – це вагома частка в популяризації нас як гарних і доброзичливих господарів.

Які б місця ви особисто порадили б вболівальникам відвідати в Києві зокрема і в Україні вцілому? Безумовно, це Києво-Печерська Лавра, Володимирський собор. Та я б рекомендувала обов’язково прогулятися Дніпром – через могутність цієї річки можна відчути справжній дух нашої країни. Відвідати мальовничі Карпати – влітку там просто неможливо надихатися. І радила б відвідати Одесу. Гадаю, через місцевий колорит час, проведений у Південній Пальмірі, запам’ятається назавжди. Взагалі, кожному українському місту є чим похвалитися. Якщо правильно розробити екскурсійні маршрути, то за місяць, протягом якого відбуватиметься чемпіонат, можна встигнути відвідати безліч історичних і культурних місць – в Кам’янці-Подільському, Івано-Франківську, Чернігові, БілгородДністровському чи Батурині. Хто, на ваш погляд, переможе на Євро-2012? Звичайно, бажаю успіху українській команді. Наша збірна, хоча й дебютант турніру, але нерви може попсувати будь-кому. A year before EUROÂ 2012 the contours of future facilities are beginning to show up. In a few months they will commission the stadium in Lviv, the Olympic NSC will receive its first visitors, Kyiv and Donetsk airports will be able to take aircraft of any category, and fans will be able to count on comfortable rooms in attractive hotels. The whole country adorns itself, order is being put not only in cities where matches of the championship will be held. Influx of tourists is expected to Odessa and Yalta, Uzhhorod and Ternopil, Chernihiv and Poltava. Among those who are not just watching from the sidelines, but directly care for construction achievements at the front of building up the country for the EURO is Honoured Master of Sports Olena Hovorova. Like at the Olympics in Sydney, in the ordinary life her jump was so powerful that she has no more competitors in sports journalism either.

s. Olena, you are the most charming anchor in national TV. How would you react to a proposal to host the opening ceremony of the Olympic NSC, if such an opportunity presented itself? Thanks for the compliment. Of course I would agree to this. For this is once in a lifetime opportunity. The Olympic Stadium will become the face of Ukrainian sport in the world. For me this is very important and honourable mission. Now there is a lot of talk about a lot of money is used for the EURO facilities and it can be used for other needs. Do you share this view? This question must be considered from a somewhat different angle. I performed abroad a lot and saw the conditions in which people live. Airport, for example, is the face of the country in any of its cities, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Simferopol or Odessa. If we want to eradicate the inferiority complex, we have to feel on a par with representatives of Western Europe. We also need high-speed trains to run, roads to be safe, and the level of service to be raised to such a level that the desire to travel the country would not disappear. It is not our fault that we got infrastructure from the Soviet past. But it is we who are to improve it. We should have taken up shovels a long time ago. And the European Football Championship has become an impetus for radical change.

But this is a purely sporting event. I would not say so. Sport is not only sports results. On the performances of athletes people go as to the performances of actors or singers. Sport unites people. Millions will watch the European Championship. Over the past four years the attitude towards us has changed a lot. A month ago Donetsk received the Hockey Junior World Cup, soon there will be World Championships in Athletics, which the city have not seen for several decades. Kyiv won the right to host the World Cup among adult hockey players, other sports federations are forming a queue to hold high level tournaments here. We are believed to, and now it will depend on us whether this credibility will consolidate in eyes of the world community. If we manage to do everything in a proper way, then later we can count on holding tournaments. They tend to give such big forums to countries that dictate the fashion in sports. While for us the first beginnings of victories in winter sports are in the biathlon. They will not be unless you provide athletes with training grounds. At the Olympic Stadium they will not only play football. It will be a modern complex, where you can hold athletics competitions as well. There is a problem in filling the arena, as the popularity of the Queen of sports in our coun-

try is still not the same as in leading countries. But at first we can hold oneday tournaments. Serhiy Bubka talked about them at the “Person of sports year” award ceremony. The same is true of other sports. There are no centres that meet the required conditions nor in snowboarding nor in ski races nor in biathlon here. If you build modern winter sports centre in the Carpathians, then the number of applicants to do them will increase significantly. And the higher the competition is, the better the results are. In general, sport should not be developed situational, but in complex, so that in each region those who want to realize themselves in sports had that opportunity. Ms. Olena, you visited many countries, each with its local colour and difference. With what, in your opinion, is Ukraine associated by foreigners? Unfortunately, this collection has not changed for years. We are known for victories of the Klytschko brothers, Serhiy Bubka, Andriy Shevchenko. And, unfortunately, for the tragedy in Chernobyl. It is a little sad, as we have something to show, smart and beautiful people live here, it is just that very few people know about our positive features. Image should be established in years. Sports competitions in our country are a significant part in promoting us as good and friendly hosts.

What places would you personally recommend fans to visit in Kyiv in particular and in Ukraine at all? Undoubtedly, it is Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, St. Volodymyr Cathedral. And I would recommend taking a walk along the Dnipro River – through the power of this river you can feel the true spirit of our country. Visit the picturesque Carpathian Mountains – in the summer you just cannot breathe enough there. I would also advise visiting Odessa. I think because of local colour the time spent in the South Palmyra will be remembered forever. In general, every Ukrainian city has something to boast about. If you develop excursion routes properly, then in the space of the month during which the championship will take place, you can visit lots of historical and cultural places – in Kamianets-Podilskyi, IvanoFrankivsk, Chernihiv, Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi or Baturyn.

They should qualify from their group, and then will fall apart. There are a few favourites, primarily Spain, but something tells me that fortune will smile on Germany or the Netherlands. айонному центру, який розкинувся на затоці Дніпра в 100 кілометрах від Києва, є що показати гостям Євро-2012. Місто відоме тим, що на 30 тисяч мешканців тут функціонують 30 музеїв. І в кожному з них допитливий турист, не напружуючись, знайде справжні раритети. У Переяславі-Хмельницькому можна торкнутися справжньої шаблі Богдана Хмельницького, тут же більше 200 років зберігалася національна святиня Пересопницьке Євангеліє. Тут Шевченко написав свій «Заповіт», а Григорій Сковорода дивував студентів філософськими трактатами. Незважаючи на багату історію, визнанням місто зобов’язане одній людині. Більш ніж півстоліття тому, 1954 року, планували відсвяткувати 300-річчя Переяславської Ради. За три роки до цієї події сюди направили за розподілом випускника історичного факультету КНУ імені Тараса Шевченка Михайла Сікорського. Йому до приїзду високих гостей доручили ушляхетнити експозицію єдиного на той момент Історичного музею. Справ-то було усього як кіт наплакав. Експонатів налічувалося тільки 32. Але новий директор засів тут надовго. Вже через три роки музейна колекція налічувала 22 тисячі екземплярів. За словами працівників музею, Михайло Сікорський був настільки відданий своїй роботі, що довгих 15 років у буквальному розумінні слова жив у музеї. Кожен співробітник мав план по

знахідках. За рік необхідно було знайти 120 історичних цінностей. Причому про копії не йшлося, виключно про оригінали. Історики вирушали в експедиції по селах Київщини, Полтавщини, Чернігівщини, їх відряджали в Москву і Санкт-Петербург, нерідко і за кордон – в Польщу, Угорщину. Музеї Переяслава тим і цінуються, що тут майже не зустрінеш копій. Хіба що Пересопницьке Євангеліє – факсимільне видання. Оригінал зберігається у фондах Національної бібліотеки імені Вернадського. Але понад 200 років воно перебувало саме в Переяславі. До речі, і факсимільне видання дуже цінне. Папір на нього замовляли в Німеччині, а сканували на спеціальному устаткуванні цілий рік. Сікорський у кожному старовинному будинку бачив музей. Заповзятливий історик пристосував під свої дітища немало приміщень. Приміром, будівлю для Музею Сковороди він «відвоював» у військової частини, яка розташовувалася в приміщенні колишнього колегіуму, де викладав український філософ. Заразом Сікорський придбав у військових гармату для майбутнього музею-діорами «Битва за Дніпро в районі ПереяславаХмельницького восени 1943 року». Діораму він, до речі, розмістив у Вознесенському соборі, гроші на зведення якого виділив Іван Мазепа. Через роки Сікорський говорив, що саме

ім’я Сковороди врятувало храм від руйнування. На музей перетворили і будинок архітектора Верховної Ради Володимира Заболотного після смерті останнього. Згодом з’явилася експозиція про Миколу Бернадосе – винахідника дугового електрозварювання. Так крок за кроком маленьке місто перетворилося на місто-музей. У музеї «Заповіт Шевченка» є кабінет доктора Козачковського, у якого жив Тарас Григорович, коли приїжджав в Переяслав-Хмельницький. Відновлена кімната, в якій оселився сам поет і де він написав свій знаменитий «Заповіт». Зберігся і «Кобзар», надісланий поетом дружині Козачковського. Подейкують, що в поета був з нею роман, через що друзі навіть посварилися. У цьому ж музеї в козацькому залі можна побачити єдиний у своєму роді написаний за життя портрет Богдана Хмельницького. А також справжню шаблю гетьмана. Вона не прикрашена коштовним камінням, але як бойова зброя мала високу ціну, оскільки зроблена із справжньої дамаської сталі. Шабля була подарована польським королем Яном ІІ Казимиром незадовго до Переяславської Ради. На ній вигравійований провокаційний напис: «Що придбав під Зборовом, то втратив під Берестечком». Це був натяк на те, що королівське військо у битві під Берестечком повернуло собі території, які відступили Хмельницькому у битві під Зборовом. Відомо, що довгий час реліквія зберігалася в сховищах Московської Збройової палати, і що директорові переяславского музею довелося докласти немало зусиль, щоб повернути її місту. В Археологічному музеї можна побачити справжню чашу скіфських царів. Історія появи цього експонату справді дивовижна. Якось співробітник музею побачив у дворі однієї з мешканок міста дивний казан на трьох ніжках. Жінка в ньому готувала їжу для худоби. Посуд був дивної форми. Заінтригований фахівець купив новий таз і обміняв його на старовинний казан. Виявилось, що це унікальний скіфський литурій – предмет культового призначення. Його опис зустрічається в творах античних авторів, але знайти його досі не вдавалося. Сікорському насилу вдалося добитися того, щоб скіфська чаша залишилася в Переяславі. Довелося також відбиватися від принадних пропо-

зицій зарубіжних колекціонерів, що пропонували за чашу чималі гроші. Ще один цікавий експонат – черняхівські шашки Археологічного музею. Під час розкопок переяславского могильника в похованні знатної людини знайшли незвичайні речі із скла – вазу і шашки. Останні були 22-ма плоскими кружечками з непрозорого скла чорного і білого кольору. Можливо, вони були призначені для гри. Подібні шашки експонуються в музеях Риму і Парижу. Але там їх всього по одній, а тут – 22.

Український скансен

Найбільшим досягненням Михайла Сікорського є Музей народної архітектури і побуту середньої Наддніпрянщини. Чи, як його ще називають, український скансен – парк-музей на кшталт відомого на весь світ Стокгольмського скансена (ландшафтний музей на горі. – Авт.). Розмістився він просто неба на кручах Тарасовой гори і посідає площу в 30 га. Виник на 15 років раніше київського музею «Пирогово». Окрім хат, шинку, корчми, поштового відділення, вітряків, на території заповідника є безліч церков. У кожної з них унікальна історія. Приміром, в одній з церков за радянських часів розташувався музей… атеїзму. Є тут і церква Святого великомученика Георгія, яку малював Тарас Шевченко. Ця церква – єдина згадка про село Андрушки, затоплене водами Канівського моря. Правда, іконостас довелося привезти з іншої церкви, оскільки автентичний не зберігся. На території скансена чимало експозицій сучасних досягнень. ● У Музеї сухопутного транспорту можна побачити копію античної колісниці, яка використовувалася під час відкриття Олімпійських ігор 1980 р. в Москві. ● У Музеї космосу – справжній скафандр і парашут Юрія Гагаріна. ● У музеї «Поштова станція» – копії подорожных листів Шевченка, Гоголя, Максимовича. ● У Музеї хліба ви дізнаєтеся, що київські паляниці свого часу вважалися найсмачнішими в Європі. Їх везли в подарунок європейським вельможам. ● У Музеї рушника побачите твори кролевецьких майстрів, які вважалися царськими. PereyaslavKhmelnytsky museum town

There are not many people who know that the first mention of Ukraine is related to a small town on the outskirts of Kyiv Region. Reporting about the death of one Pereyaslav duke, Volodymyr Glebovich, the chronicler has mentioned that â&#x20AC;&#x153;all Ukraine mournedâ&#x20AC;? for him. 80

he district town located in a Dnieper creek at a distance of 100 km from Kyiv has something to show guests of Euro-2012. The town with a population of 30,000 people is known for having 30 operational museums in it. An inquisitive tourist will find real rarities here without any difficulty. One can touch a genuine sword of Bohdan Khmelnytsky here, and the national sacred object, the Peresopnytsia Gospel, has been kept here for more than 200 years. Shevchenko wrote his “Testament” here, and Hryhoriy Skovoroda astonished students with philosophical treatises. Despite its rich history, the town is obliged just to one person for its recognition. More than 50 years ago, in 1954, it was planned to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Council of Pereyaslav. A graduate of the Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, Mykhaylo Sikorsky, got a placement here three years earlier. He was warranted to refine the exposition of the then only Historical Museum for the arrival of high guests. There was next to nothing to do. The number of exhibits was only 32. But the new director settled here for a long time. There were already 22,000 exhibits in the museum collection three years later. According to museum workers, Mykhaylo Sikorsky was so dedicated to his work that he had actually lived in the museum for as long as 15 years. Each worker had a plan for making discoveries. It was necessary to find 120 historical items over a year. This did not include copies: only originals were needed. Historians headed for expeditions in the Kyiv, Poltava and Chernihiv Regions, were sent to Moscow and St Petersburg, and sometimes even abroad: to Poland and Hungary. “Museums in Pereyaslav are so valuable because one can hardly encounter copies here. The Peresopnytsia Gospel is the only facsimile edition. Its original is kept in the holdings of the Vernadsky National Library. But it was kept precisely in Pereyaslav for more than 200 years. By the way, the facsimile edition is also very valuable. The paper for it was ordered from Germany, and it was scanned with special equipment for a whole year,” Valentyna Nikitina said. Sikorsky saw a museum in each old building. The enthusiastic historian adjusted a number of premises for his children. For example, he “won over” the building for the Skovoroda Museum from the UKRAINE 2012 81

military unit placed in the premises of the former college where the Ukrainian philosopher was teaching. At the same time, Sikorsky bought a cannon for the future diorama museum “Battle for the Dnieper in Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyy area in autumn 1943” from the military. By the way, he placed the diorama in the Ascension Cathedral which had been built for money allocated by Ivan Mazepa. Sikorsky said that Skovoroda’s name itself had rescued the church from destruction. After the death of the architect of the Supreme Council building, Volodymyr Zabolotny, his house was also made into a museum. Later on, an exposition about Nikolai Bernados, the inventor of electric arc welding, appeared. Thus, the small town was transformed into a museum town. There is the study of Dr Kozachkovsky in Shevchenko’s “Testament” Museum; Taras Shevchenko lived in the latter’s place during his visits to Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky. The room where the poet stayed and where he had written his famous “Testament” has been restored. A copy of Kobzar sent by the poet to Kozachkovsky’s wife has been preserved as well. There was speculation that the poet allegedly had a romance with her, and the friends even quarreled because of this.

One can also see a unique Bohdan Khmelnytsky lifetime portrait of its kind in the Cossack hall of the same museum, along with a sabre belonging to the Hetman. It is not decorated with precious stones, but it was of high value as a fighting weapon, as it was made of authentic Damascene steel. The sabre was presented by King John II Casimir of Poland shortly before the Council of Pereyaslav. It has got a provocative engraving: “What had been acquired at Zborov, has been lost at Berestechko”. This hint implied that the royal troops regained at the Berestechko battle the lands that had been yielded to Khmelnytsky during the battle at Zborov. The relic is known to have been kept for a long time in the depository of the Moscow Armoury, and the director of the Pereyaslav museum had to exert every effort to return it to the town. One can see an authentic Scythian kings bowl in the Archeological Museum. The story of this exhibit’s appearance is really amazing. A museum worker once saw an unusual cauldron with three legs in one of town resident’s yard. The woman cooked feed for cattle in it. The vessel had an unusual shape. Intrigued, the expert bought a new pan and changed it for the antique cauldron. It turned out to be a unique Scythi-

an liturgical vessel used for religious purposes. Its description can be encountered in antique authors works, but no-one had managed to find it earlier. Sikorsky has managed to assure leaving this Scythian bowl in Pereyaslav. He also had to fend off attractive proposals from foreign collectors offering immense money for the bowl. Chernyakhiv draughts are another interesting exhibit in the Archeological Museum. Unusual glass items, a vase and draughts, were found during excavations in a grave of a noble person in the Pereyaslav burial ground. The latter were 22 flat circles of black and white opaque glass. They were probably made for playing. Draughts of this kind are exhibited in museums in Rome and Paris. But each of them has got just one item, while there are 22 of them here.

Ukrainian Skansen

The Central Dnieper Region Folk Architecture and Everyday Life Museum is Mykhaylo Sikorsky’s greatest achievement. It is also named Ukrainian Skansen: a museum park of the kind of the worldfamous Skansen in Stockholm (landscape museum on a hill – author’s note). It is located in the open air on the slopes of the Taras Hill and is 30 ha in size. It was created 15 years earlier before the Pyrohove Museum in Kyiv. Besides huts, a tavern, an inn, a post office and windmills, there are also a

great number of churches on the territory of the conservation area. Each of them has its own unique history. For example, there was a museum of… atheism in one of the churches during the Soviet period. Holy Martyr George Church, which was painted by Taras Shevchenko, is also here. This church is the only reminiscence of village Andrushky that had been flooded with the waters of the Kaniv storage lake. However, it was necessary to bring the iconostasis from another church because the original one had not been preserved. There are numerous expositions dedicated to modern-time achievements on the territory of Skansen. ● A copy of the antique chariot that was used at the opening ceremony of the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow can be seen in the Land Transport Museum. ● Yuriy Gagarin’s original space suit and parachute are exhibited at the Space Museum. ● Copies of Shevchenko’s,Gogol’s and Maksymovych’s route sheets are exhibited in the Post Office Museum. ● You will learn in the Bread Museum that palyanytsya bread was once considered to be the most tasty in Europe. It was sent as a present to European noblemen. ● In the Embroidered Towel Museum you will see the works of masters from Krolevets considered to be royal ones. Embroiderers from Krolevets weaved an embroidered towel for the Great Bard, and his coffin was covered with it.

The town was ruled in different periods by Volodymyr Monomakh, Yuriy Dolgorukiy and Alexander Nevsky. Pereyaslav was the last step to the Kyiv throne for many princes. Pereyaslav was once the third most important city in Kyivan Rus after Kyiv and Chernihiv.

Кожен футболіст потребує моральної підтримки. Не дарма вболівальники створили окрему культуру, яка дозволяє згуртовуватися навколо улюблених команд, об’єднувати голосові зусилля під час ігор, разом переживати перемоги й поразки. На Заході публіку «розігрівають» ще й енергійні дівчата із груп підтримки. Є спроби, переважно під час баскетбольних матчів, перейняти цей досвід і в нас. На аренах під час Євро2012 наші дівчата також могли б милувати око глядачів.

ершопрохідцями в організації масової підтримки спортсменів прийнято вважати жителів древньої Еллади, які влаштовували подібні заходи під час Олімпійських ігор. Щоправда, за стародавніми законами жінки не могли як брати участь в Іграх, так і вболівати на трибунах. Ролі груп підтримки були розписані серед чоловіків: вони співали, грали на арфі та читали вірші. Ближче до нашого часу черлідинг (групи підтримки – одна з його складових) у сучасному спорті відродився у багатоповерховій Америці. Істотно, що на нинішньому етапі черлідинг асоціюється з жіночими виступами, проте пальма першості тут належать чоловікам. 1884 року студенти Мічиганського університету на одній з ігор розважали публіку синхронними танцями та декламацією віршів. За 20 років, 1906-го, до черлідингу почали залучати представниць слабкої статі. Цьому спортивному руху в Америці присвячено три суперпопулярних фільми «Цукор і перець», «Досягти успіху» та «Краса по-американськи». І це не дивно. Адже у США черлідинг вважається президентським видом спорту. Черлідерами свого часу були перші особи країни: Франклін Рузвельт, Дуайт Ейзенхауер та Джордж Буш-старший. В Україні створення груп підтримки ініціював легендарний в минулому баскетболіст, президент БК «Київ» Олександр Волков. Повернувшись із США, він, створюючи новий клуб, не забув про американський досвід створення шоу під час ігор. Так при «Вовках» виникла перша вітчизняна група підтримки. Яскраві костюми, плакати, прапори та помпони – це лише частина перфомансу. Виступи дівчат створюють сприятливий психологічний клімат під час матчів, пом’якшують агресивний настрій уболівальників, іноді навіть керують емоціями глядачів. Втім, черлідинг – це не тільки розважальний супровід у спорті. Він розвивається самостійно і згодом претендуватиме на місце в олімпійській програмі. З 1995-го черлідинг має Європейську асоціацію, 2004-го в Мемфісі (США) відкрили Всесвітню штаб-квартиру. Збірна України була створена в серпні 2005 року заслуженим журналістом України Юрієм Крикуном, котрий зараз і очолює Всеукраїнську національну федерацію черлідингу. А вже за два сезони наша команда виграла Європейські ігри-2007. Згодом прийшли і перемоги на відкритих першостях Австралії, Фінляндії, Польщі, Росії та Швеції. І це не дивно. Адже на щорічних чемпіонатах країни за звання UKRAINE 2012 85

чемпіонів змагаються понад тисячі спортсменів з 16 регіонів України. Тож тренерам збірної є з кого вибирати. Зазначимо, що черлідинг перебуває в постійному пошуку. Не випадково Виконком Міжнародного черлідингового союзу започаткував нові види змагальної програми, притамані спортсменам різних континентів. Наприклад, європейці привнесли до офіційної програми континентальних та світових чемпіонатів парні змагання, які стали знаковими для наших дівчат. Ольга Коробенко та Катерина Сівковська, майстри спорту України міжнародного класу, під керівництвом заслуженого тренера України Анни Андрієнко 2009-го підкорили континент, вигравши три золоті та дві срібні медалі. Після цього, на світовому чемпіонаті 2010 року у США наш зірковий дует здобув два «золота» в джазі та фрістайлі, і «бронзу» в командному джазі разом зі своїми досвідченими подругами по команді, віце-чемпіонками світу-2009 Світланою Юрків, Анастасією Марченко, Світланою Тимошенко та Ма рією Хохловою. Наступного тріумфу наша збірна досягла на вересневому чемпіонаті Європи 2010-го у Парижі, де здобула дві золоті та одну срібну нагороду. На прес-конференції, присвяченій підсумкам сезону 2010, Президент Міжнародного черлідингового союзу Джеф Вебб відзначив результати нашої команди: «На чемпіонаті світу у США збірна України виборола дві золоті нагороди. Такого успіху досягли лише родоначальники черлідингу – американці. Звісно, тепер будь-яке інше місце, крім першого, українок не влаштує». Найкращі черлідерки Європи та світу вже мріють про нові висоти. Адже наступна світова першість відбудеться незабаром – у квітні 2011 року. Наші дівчата будуть на ній головними фаворитами. Тож, сподіваємося, що в знаменитому Екпот-центрі в Орландо глядачі знову почують гімн нашої держави. А організаторам нашої континентальної першості слід звернути увагу на дівчат – від цього наше Євро тільки виграє. Світлана Малікова

Each football player needs moral support. It is not in vain that fans have created a special culture which enables people to unite around their favourite teams, unite efforts of their voices during the games and experience victories and defeats together. The public in the West is also “warmed up” by energetic girls from support groups. We also attempted to borrow this experience here, mainly during basketball matches. Though during EURO 2012 our girls could gladden the fans’ eyes.

esidents of ancient Greece are traditionally considered to be the pioneers of organizing mass support for sportsmen: they organized events of this kind during the Olympic Games. However, according to ancient laws, women were not allowed to take part in the Games, the same way as support sportsmen from the stands. Roles in support groups were distributed among men: they sang, played the harp and recited poems. Coming closer to our time, cheerleading (support groups being one of its components) in modern sports was reborn in multi-storey America. At the present stage cheerleading is mainly associated with performances by women, but the palm in this activity belongs to men. Students from the Michigan University entertained the public with synchronic dances and recital of poems during one of its games in 1884. Involvement of representatives of the fairer sex in cheerleading began some 20 years later, in 1906. Three super-popular films, “Sugar and Pepper”, “Reach Success” and “American Beauty”, were dedicated to this sporting movement in America. It is not surprising, as cheerleading is regarded as a presidential kind of sports in the USA. The country’s top officials were once cheerleaders: Franklin Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower and George Bush Sr. Formation of support groups in Ukraine was initiated by once legendary basketball player, President of Kyiv Basketball Club, Oleksandr Volkov. Having returned from the USA, he did not forget the US experience of making shows during games while forming a new club. This is how the first national support group appeared under “Wolf” Volkov.

Ukraine national cheerleading team

Bright-coloured clothing, placards, banners and pompons are just a part of a performance. The performances of girls form a favourable psychological climate during matches, calm down the aggressive sentiments of fans and sometimes even guide the emotions of spectators. However, cheerleading is not just entertainment support in sports. It develops on its own and will contend for a place in the Olympic programme in the course of time. Cheerleading has had a European association since 1995, and its world headquarters were opened in Memphis (USA) in 2004. The Ukrainian national team was formed in August 2005 by Yuriy Krykun, famous Ukrainian journalist, who presently heads the Ukrainian National Cheerleading Federation. Two seasons later our team gained a victory in the 2007 European Games. Later on it also gained victories in open competitions in Austria, Finland, Poland, Russia and Sweden. It is not surprising, as thousands of sportsmen from 16 Ukrainian regions contend for champions’ titles at the annual national championships. Therefore, coaches of the national team have a choice. Let us note that cheerleading is a state of permanent search. It is no surprise that the Executive Committee of the International Cheerleading Union has initiated new kinds of competition programme, which are inherent to sportsmen from different continents. For example, Europeans have introduced pair competitions which became indicative for our girls in the official programmes of continental and world championships. Olha Korobenko and Kateryna Sivkovska,

International Class Masters of Sports, supervised by Honorary Coach of Ukraine Anna Andriyenko, conquered the continent in 2009, having won three gold and two silver medals. Then, at the 2010 World Championship in the USA, our star duet won two medals in jazz and freestyle and a bronze medal in team jazz together with their experienced fellow team members, world runners-up in 2009 Svitlana Yurkiv, Anastasiya Marchenko, Svitlana Tymoshenko and Mariya Khokhlova. Our national team achieved its next triumph in September 2010 at the European Championship in Paris, where it won two gold and one silver awards. At the press conference dedicated to the results of the 2010 season, the President of the International Cheerleading Union, Jeff Webb, noted our team’s results: “The Ukrainian national team won two gold awards at the World Championship in the USA. Only the founders of cheerleading, the Americans, managed to achieve this success. Of course, no other place than first will suit Ukrainian girls from now on.” The best cheerleaders in Europe and in the world are already dreaming about new heights, as the next world contest will take place in a month’s time: in April 2011. Our girls will be the main favourites there. Therefore, we hope that spectators at the famous Expo Centre in Orlando will hear our country’s anthem again. And the organizers of continental championship should turn their attention to these ladies: our EURO will only benefit from this. Svitlana Malikova UKRAINE 2012 89
