İzmit Clock Tower The clock tower has been an inseparable part of the history of İzmit throughout the 20th century, and has become the symbol of the city. It was built by the Kocaeli Governor Musa Kazım Bey of the period to commemorate the 25th year of 2. Abdulhamit Han's acceding to the throne. The tower which is one of the first work of art of Architecture Vedat Tekin, was constructed in neo-classical style. In its construction travertine stones were used that are unique to Hereke and Tavşancıl regions. Its clock was re-manufactured in 1929 by Mustafa Semi. In the bottom floor of the tower there are 3 fountains in 3 directions. There are stone epigraphs on pediments of the fountains and over the gate of the towel. In these epigraphs, words “Municipality built this tower and the fountains for Seyit Kamari in 1318” are written in Arabic alphabet. There is the signature of 2. Abdulhamit in the cartridge with a circle shape on the middle floor. In the epigraph written in Latin alphabet, written later, next to the entrance gate of the clock tower, it is mentioned that it was repaired by SEKA in 1970's. The tower adds a different harmony to the city with its lead covered roof, with its unique high cone, as if it just walked out of an ancient fairy tale.
İzmit Palace , Kasr-ı Hûmayun İzmit Palace, Kasr-ı Hûmayun, and with its other name hunting seat of Sultan Abdülaziz, is located in the North of the railroad, next to Clock Tower. *Conclusion During the project ''Maths Around Us '' aiming at improving Maths skills by perceiving Math issues in our students’ surrounding world, by encouraging them to try their best to solve Math tasks, by finding similarities and differences between different environments of the five participated schools. , numerous activities and events were organised. All Math actions and communication between students was carried on in English which made students more aware of the importance of learning foreign languages and developed their language skills. In our project Math teachers from five different countries in Europe had the opportunity to exchange opinions and experiences, to observe different methods of teaching for three years. Taking part in activities pupils developed their social and cooperative skills communicating and coping with the tasks in international teams. Our project gave our students the possibility to meet, compare their skills, to solve tasks in international groups. Working via computer and Internet students developed their ICT abilities. TeacherS exchanged the international experience in teaching and learning of various subject from Maths to English or ICT . All of the evaluated areas of the project, both those at the level of working groups and on the level of their outputs, were very well received and positively evaluated from the perspective of the project group members as well as from the perspective of external participants of the project activities. We can conclude, that the project was very succesful from the aspect of management and work of working groups, as well as in terms of acceptance of the results formed during the project.
