I believe that every design should follow a strong idea, which makes it unique and precise. However, it is the user and his sense of comfort that I regard as the primary aim of the architect’s work. I am deeply convinced that good architecture illustrates the interpretation of the place. Preceded by a profound analysis it respects ‘genius loci’. Moreover, I pay great attention to the detail, which, in my opinion, has a crucial impact on the final effect. All experience I have gained so far allowed me to introduce various approaches to the design process. The Polish school of architecture helped me acquire functional and technological attitude. I am combining it with a sensual and delicate way of thinking, with which I got acquainted in Spain. I think this sensitiveness had a significant impact on my further design perception. During internships in professional studios, I got the chance to learn about the practical aspects of the design process. I value greatly team work and regard cooperation as the inherent factor of success. I consider travelling to be my ultimate inspiration. I look forward to learning new styles, approaches and techniques with which I am not familiar. I am always enthusiastic about working with new people from whom I can learn and who can trigger my personal and professional growth. I hope to stay inspired and constantly develop my skills on this long architectural way.

Forgotten City Moat Cracow, Poland Revitalization of Planty Park and defensive walls of Cracow
Master Diploma Project Cracow University of Technology 2014 team work: Agnieszka Popielak, Ewelina Rachwał tutors: Andrzej Kadłuczka Jolanta Sroczyńska Institute of History of Architecture
“Royal city” of Cracow is a unique and significant place with rich history. Its characteristic rink Park, surrounding the whole Medieval Old Town makes the city centre even more unique and outstanding among other historical cities. The common question appears here: is the potential of the place fully used to make this place as exceptional as it should be? After the last modernization in 80s, it still remains the same inaccessible green monument admired only from the outside. Currently, Planty attracts passers-by the most with monotonous benches as the only activity offered. After all, Planty Park is very unique green spot full of forgotten historical values. Due to all those facts, the main objective of the project is to give new quality to Planty, basing on the philosophy of contemporary urban design and emphasizing the great historical values of the place at the same time. The case of study refers to the northern part of the Park, where the parts of medieval fortifications remain. The design starts on the west, where the medieval waterworks system used to exist and runs through the gardens to the Barbican. It constitutes clear division into three parts: ghost project of waterworks complex dedicated for children, preservation of Barbican with underground museum of Cracow fortifications and public space spread in between. All elements are designed with reference to the old city moat.

Cracow, today undoubtedly one of main tourist attractions in Poland, constituting a trademark of Poland abroad, has always been referred to as a “royal city”. The incorporation of Kraków took place in 1257. Fortification system of Medieval Kraków was highly developed, which constitutes the city as the best protected in Poland. Its double ring of defensive walls, traced down to 15th century, after modernization contained 31 turrets and 7 gates. The only remains of the whole system are in the north of the Old Town – the most advanced complex of Barbican and St. Florian’s Gate
Waterworks were supplying medieval Cracow with water. Pipes were put along the main streets. Machinery were relatively simple, wooden chests into which the water was pured through the hollow wooden poles with an outlet in the form of a small pipe

Basing on philosophy and trends in contemporary urban desin give the new quality to public space, corresponding to the needs and problems of modern society. Due to the fact that Planty Park replaced medieval fortifications one of the most important problems in the project is exposition and preservation of historical relicts.

1. Public Space
MIDDLE AGES
arranged in the old moat beds
First, linking part of the project is the public space. Taking into account the historical context of the site, the goal is to introduce new design but not to destroy existing order, at the same time. The quality of the place is to be improved by small interventions and rather “acupuncture” modification. Bringing back the notion of city moat in awareness of citizens, the division into two parts is clearly visible. In this this particular place, the moat used to be double. Due to this fact, the design consists of two riverbeds, main path and the sensitive reference to the second defensive wall. All intersts are spread along the main communication track. Although the first, smaller moat bed used to have the smaller role in the past, in the project it constitutes the main establishment to the river. This part, 7m wide is the line full off water attractions such as water ponds, fountains and paddles, which strongly attracts people’s attention.. The most of attractions in the second, wider riverbed are mostly related to cosy and comfortable places to sit and relax. Third part of moats complex is the small defensive wall, which past presence in the project is marked as long wooden bench spread along the main track. actual urban layout - lack of any signs of former waterworks
designed layout, form inspired by medieval waterworks, slightly modified to protect existing trees
new architecture - old city waterworks
Next part of the study is the problem of non-existent former city waterworks. In this case, the completely new architecture was designed, basing on historical materials and 3d reconstruction. This place, dedicated to young people and kids, is located to the north of the Old Town where the waterworks building used to be. Marking its presence, the ghost project, as transparent as possible was designed. To achieve this effect we decided to use transparent materials – glass. Double wall which layers are distant from each other around 60cm can allows to get the impression of disappearing among the trees. What is more, the whole construction system is from hardened laminated glass. According to the function of the building, It was very important for us to create a huge open space inside, without any supports.

The last part of the project is Barbican building with its surroundings. The main objective is to improve exposition of existing monuments and relicts, in a modern and attractive way. Execution of the idea constitutes a creation of a new space basing on the outline of a medieval moat. For those purposes underground museum was designed, devoted to history of Planty Park and city fortifications. The new part is entirely situated underground in order to not to disrupt existing urban order. Circulation in the museum is based on a set of footbridges, spread among the main hall and exhibition spaces. Half of the hall is covered by glass with floating water on the top. Water gives spectacular light effects and remind visitors that they are walking exactly in the channel of the former city moat. Water is accessible from the level of the street, people can touch it and seat on the grass, it improves the quality of the public space. Also because of the glass ceiling passers-by have visual contact with visitors of the museum, what makes the whole space and experience even more interesting. The underground ruins of the junction between the Barbican and the St. Florian’s Gate are uncovered to the sight of visitors, which is the final part of the concept.

La Ventana al Mar Valencia, Spain Modernization of the square close to Malvarossa Beach
academic project Universidad Politécnica de Valencia 2012 team work: Maria Giemza, Ewelina Rachwał Zuzanna Tarnowska tutor: Pablo Rafael Sedeño Pacios Faculty of Fine Arts
A small square next to La Malvarossa Beach in the north of Valencia city is a case of the study. This completely unarranged plot seems to be forgotten. It is just an open, empty space, mainly used as a parking lot now. There are few reasons why it is so neglected and unkempt. The place is located on the north of the city, far away from the center, what makes it hardly accessible for visitors. Poorer environment does not have any good influence either. Even though the proximity of the beach makes the place only “passed by”, the need of nice organized public space is visible. Children from neighborhood sit on the curb or stairs of surrounding buildings. Due to those facts, the square was designed as an interesting “passing by” space, with some spots for residents, as well. “Window” installation plays main the role in the project. It is a set of frames, growing towards the sea side. This significant path, spread along the square, leads citizens to the beach. Light frames create an opening to the sea, allowing better exploration of beautiful view. The impression of freshness and breeze constitutes a kind of springboard from grey and messy surroundings. The general layout was cut in varied directions, creating separated plots covered by different pavement textures. Striking lack of greenery was replaced by green oasis with plants and water spots. The place is arranged in the way to attract passers-by as well as to make residents feel comfortable in their quarter.
MODEL OF FEELINGS The biggest emphasis was placed on feelings analysis, what clearly explains the approach to the undertaken task. Model of feelings illustrates the first step of design process. All impressions and stimulus gathered during the site visit are exposed on it. Such exertion was carried out in order to understand the character of the site better. Senses stimulation helps with site interpretation. In the next step it results in definition which values should be enhanced as well as the defects, which should be eliminated. As the final effect a pleasant and cosy design was achieved, strictly connected to exactly this place.

Within the Vineyards Requena, Spain Winery and Hotel Complex in Requena
academic project Universidad PolitĂŠcnica de Valencia 2012 individual work tutor: Pascual SellĂŠs Cantos Faculty of Architecture
Requena is a small Spanish town, located at the Magro riverside in province of Valencia. The complex of winery and hotel is designed in the rural area, known from its picturesque landscape of vines. Due to all natural values of the site, the main goal of the design was to achieve possibly the biggest cohesion with this beautiful landscape. Wood is the prime material used, which helps to get this effect. It also gives the space cozy and calm feel. The second skin of wooden panels ensures welcome play of light and shadow, what institutes pleasant atmosphere while walking around the complex. What is more, mobile panels make the space more flexible. It can make one open space thus all users can be together as the part of the landscape. If it is preferred, each object can be enclosed, constituting independent structure. Winery is the main object of the complex. The whole building is clearly divided into two parts: one concerns wine production and the second id devoted to visitors. The production space is partly underground, so as better microclimate conditions can be obtained. To detach those two different functions, the main access to the technological part is designed from lower level. It also ensues from shape of the terrain and ease of use. The upper levels are entirely dedicated to guests and visitors. This part represents the example of public space buildings. Few boxes grows from underground level and offer varied activities and functions. The biggest one is an entrance area and plays a representative role. The next one with tasting room is the continuation of wine production process. Enclosed space with the view at the barrels create a perfect place for tasting and contemplation. In other boxes are SPA, conference area and sanitary facilities. All terraces in between works as communication but also as a view point, from which the breathtaking views can be admired. The hotel is designed as separated units scattered within the landscape in order to ensure privacy and tranquility. Each unit consists of two apartments on two levels. Terrace system offers an attractive private space with the extraordinary view of the landscape. Such a space creates perfect conditions for spending leasure time playing or resting surrounded by nature. The general structure is very simple so as not to disturb into the raw character of nature

Mine of Knowledge Wieliczka, Poland Educational Centre arranged in “Margielnik” chamber in “Wieliczka” Salt Mine Bachelor Diploma Project Cracow University of Technology 2013 individual work tutors: Andrzej Kadłuczka Barbara Zin Institute of History of Architecture and Preservation of Monuments
Wieliczka is a small mining town with more than 700 years of history. Located in South of Poland in the neighbourhood of Cracow, is famous for Salt Mine, which is one of the biggest and the most beautiful in the world. In the 1996 the salt was stopped to be extracted in Wieliczka and nowadays the mine constitutes a priceless monument as well as tourist and healing destination. “Margielnik” chamber is one of the biggest, beautiful and accessible chambers in the mine. It is around 100m long and 36 m wide. In 19th century the salt was extracted from this strongly undulating salt deposit board by hands. Currently, protection works are carried out here, strengthening the ceiling, sidewalls and salt pillars. The project was designed to create space friendly for children and youth. Great scenery and air conditions substantially influence intellectual work of young people. The main idea of the project was to hang glassy cuboids like salt crystals, in the dim interior of the chamber. White, luminous shapes outstand among the darkness. Different levels of whole composition expose cristalline shape of salt cubes, what was the main inspiration for this concept. All forms have different measures and proportions, emphasizing the diversity of functions. Used materials are completely safe for corrosion, due to the special microclimate of the mine. The whole composition illustrates contrast between raw character of nature and sensitive simplicity of architecture.

Green Lake Wuhan, China Arrangement of European site at China International Garden Expo
Creative Garden Competition of the 10th China International Garden EXPO in Wuhan - honorable mention internship at Bud Cud, Cracow 2014 BudCud team work: Mateusz Adamczyk, Agata Woźniczka, Bartosz Girek, Agata Kowalska, Ewelina Rachwał, Małgorzata Rączka, Wojciech Szydłowski
Site number 1590, belonging to the European exhibition space on the Garden Expo in Wuhan, is densified and intensified representation of recreational outdoor areas of Europe. It applies the most characteristic formats of spatial composition, plants’ arrangement, pavement, urban furniture and functional scheme into an exhibition space, providing expo visitors with genius loci of European green spaces. We chose the form of a park instead of a garden, because a park is an urban garden. Park can contain garden’s composition and structure, but also gives the opportunity for active recreation. We wanted the visitors to get an extended memories from our exhibition site – not only passive panoramas, but also active experience of using the green spaces in European way. Composition of the park is based on typical and one of most characteristic historical public parks from Europe – Leopold Park in Brussels, Belgium, where the pond is surrounded by differentiated green space – from grass lawns to shady park. We transformed the given scheme, reinterpreted it with trans positioned materials, specific elements from other famous parks and contemporary approach.
