ACCESS PASS PROGRAM All 12 Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites locations are proud to participate in the Access Pass program. The program, which was started by The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis in 2004, brings together museums across the state of Indiana to make fun family learning available to more Hoosier families. The Access Pass program is open to Indiana residents who receive state assistance either through Hoosier Healthwise Insurance, Hoosier Works, SNAP or TANF assistance programs. SECOND FLOOR EXPERIENCES Contested Territory Learn about the turbulent time in Indiana’s history as it moved from frontier to statehood. Enter the scene as the Treaty of Greenville is negotiated and hear Little Turtle’s powerful speech spoken in the Miami language. 19th State Step into pioneer Indiana and be transported to a world of oxen, farm tools and log cabins. See rare artifacts from Abraham Lincoln’s family, and find spaces where you can practice chopping wood and sawing a log. The Hoosier Way Learn how Indiana forged its identity after the pioneer era by exploring real artifacts from this time of transformation. See artifacts from Indiana’s first African American settlements, objects from the Civil War and more. Crossroads of America Explore the technological advancements in the era of railroads and how those improvements – like Wooton desks and automobiles, along with the use of coal and gas – changed transportation and commerce in Indiana. IN OUR NEWEST EXPERIENCES THIRD FLOOR EXPERIENCES FIX: Heartbreak and Hope Inside Our Opioid Crisis (open through Aug. 1, 2021) The United States is in the middle of an opioid crisis – and the Indiana State Museum invites you to learn more about it. Explore the science and biology behind opioid use disorder, then discover true, personal stories from people affected. Walk inside a fabric brain, see artistic responses to the crisis and find hope in learning that recovery is possible as we all work together toward finding solutions.

Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood: A Grr-ific Exhibit (open through Jan. 3, 2021) Enter the world of Daniel Tiger and friends to explore the neighborhood. Through immersive experiences, visitors collaborate to solve problems, use their imaginations to transform their surroundings, and play along with Daniel’s singable strategies as they learn life’s little lessons. Become one of the characters and step on stage to act, express yourself through unusual instruments, or visit the Thank You Tree to leave your own thank-you note. Timed tickets required. 8


Celebration Crossing (open Wed. - Sun., Nov. 27, 2020 through Jan. 3, 2021) Celebrate the magic of the holidays at the Indiana State Museum’s holiday experience, Celebration Crossing. Explore a winter wonderland by visiting the redesigned Santa’s Front Yard and new Reindeer Barn where you’ll find a variety of hands-on activities and learn more about Santa’s reindeer team. Step into a winter scene for a photo with Santa and his sleigh (on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only) and hop aboard the Santa Claus Express train for a wintry ride.

TODDLER TIME

Even the littlest learner can find fun at the Indiana State Museum. In this special class just for toddlers, children enjoy circle time, stories, station explorations and movement time. Camp in a Box engages your child in learning through a variety of hands-on design challenges, step-by-step experiments and art creations. Each theme includes five activities, all the material needed and an activity guide for step-by-step instructions and ways to continue exploring. These kits are geared towards students in kindergarten - grade 6. The United States is in the middle of an opioid crisis, with Indiana at the epicenter. At this event, join Overdose Lifeline to get trained on the use and administration of naloxone, also known by brand name Narcan. Naloxone is a drug that can reverse the effect of an opioid overdose.
