Sam the Sloth and his Many Talents
Cecelia Petrarca
Once, there was a sloth named Sam and he was the youngest one in his family.
1
His family all had different talents that made them very special. Except for Sam, the baby of the family, who was looking to have potential.
2
He did not think he had any talents or things that he did well. He was often sad and thought to himself, "Why can't I excel?
3
His sister Sarah was the smartest sloth in all the land.
Sam often said, "Why aren't I as smart as her? I just don't understand.
4
He cried to his mom and said, "How come I'm not smart like Sarah. She's the brightest sloth in this era.
5
His mom was calm and very gentle. He knew she'd never be judgmental.
She held him close in the most loving state. "You don't need her brain to be great.
6
He was fine and happy after this talk. But sooner than later it started to stop.
7
His brother Simon was very good at soccer, and for Sam that didn't come as a very big shocker. He was sad he wasn't as coordinated as his brother. "What's wrong with me? he said. "I need my mother. 8
"Mom, he said, "How can this be? Simon is much better at soccer than me.
9
His mom smiled politely and spoke very clearly. "My boy, don't you know that you're loved oh so dearly? You don't need sports to be great. There is so much in you to appreciate.
10
He stared at his mom with a face oh so blue. "I don't have any talents and you know it's true.
11
She looked at her son and said, "That is not true. Aren’t you aware of the things you can do?”
“You're the best musician I've ever seen. Your musical ability is quite pristine.”
12
“Trumpet, drums, and even the flute. Every time you play, your talent takes root.”
“You are kind and giving no matter the time. I'm so very glad that you are all mine.”
13
“So don't be caught up in what other people do.
No matter what your talents are, you're enough for me.
Focus on yourself and the things that make you, you.
I love you so much. That I can guarantee.
