Cooktops and CombiSets

All bases covered...

Powerful, innovative and elegant The cooktop is the heart of the kitchen and Miele’s range of cooktops and CombiSets combine sleek looks with top technology. You are sure to receive quick heat-up times and a powerful performance delivery in a design package that not only looks great but provides you with easy access to the cooking zones and controls. Depending on model, automatic and programmable features add great convenience for a new dimension to the very interactive cooking on a cooktop. In addition, induction and HiLight cooktops feature smooth, perfectly flat, easy to clean surfaces, while our gas cooktops are designed to make operation safe and simple with their enamelled cast iron pan supports that allow pots to be easily transferred from one burner to another. We are confident that with Miele’s extensive range of cooktops and CombiSets you will find an ideal choice that helps you achieve perfect results in your kitchen!

Quality – Made in Germany For more than 30 years, we have been proving our competency in regard to engineering the perfect cooktop. Miele cooktops are highly reliable and are regularly tested in 7,000 hour endurance tests that they must pass without fault. Under average conditions, i.e. a family of four and 6.5 hours use per week, this equates to approx. 20 years of normal domestic use. 2

Wide choice of cooktop technology  Miele cooktops and CombiSets are available with a wide choice of cooking technologies, to suit your very individual requirements.

Induction The future of cooking. With an induction cooktop, the heat is created directly in the base of the pan. Using suitable cookware, the size of the pan will be automatically recognised so that there is virtually hardly any waste of energy. In addition, induction cooking is very safe, as the cooking zones stay relatively cool. Above all is their wide range of power output - with their Booster settings, induction cooktops outperform the most powerful gas wok burners, yet can be adjusted to the lowest of heat output, for a very gentle simmer. HiLight ceramic cooktops The modern way of cooking. Heat output is created through the red heat of the very efficient HiLight heater elements below the ceramic glass surface. Miele HiLight cooktops offer great convenience with an array of automatic and programmable functions.

Gas cooktops The traditional way of cooking. Miele’s renowned quality and attention to detail add to the energy efficiency of cooking with gas, making these models the best choice for budding chefs taking a traditional approach to achieving perfect results!

Design

Efficiency Design options The design of all of Miele’s induction cooktops is characterised by puristic and clear linear elegance. Across the range you can choose between different built-in widths, frame options, surface decors and even flush-mounted options. Induction cooking - the power of gas (and more) with the safety and convenience of electric HiLight cooktops.

Induction cooking principle Inductive heat transfer guarantees extremely short heat-up times and rapid response as the heat is induced directly in the pan base and therefore the ceramic glass itself only heats up from the reflected heat from the pan. The benefits are that induction cooking is fast and very efficient the future of cooking!

Cleaning and care Miele induction cooktops can be kept clean easily as the heat is created in the pan base and spilled food cannot bake onto the screen. Spillages and other soiling are easily cleaned off, adding a new level of convenience to your cooking.

Gas

HiLight

Induction

Induction cooking results in shorter heat-up times, reducing the time needed to bring 5 l of water to the boil by up to 50% and offering heat-up time savings amount to 30% compared to high-performance Miele HiLight cooktops. An investment that pays off!

4

User convenience

Flexible cooktop design Across the range, different size and types of cooking zones cater for all of your individual requirements. For example, select models offer cooking zones that are designed as extension zones to allow casserole dishes with up to 200 mm x 300 mm, such as the Miele KIB 5000 or KMB 5000 S to be used.

DirectSeletion controls These types of controls allow for intuitive and rapid control of the cooktop via a single centred, individually numbered range of sensor touch controls for all rings. Individual settings can be selected directly to achieve the desired power or programme the timer operation, without having to scroll through them using + or - buttons.

DirectSelection Plus controls With these types of controls, each cooking zones has its own numbered sensor touch pad for intuitive rapid control of the cooktop’s many features. Power settings and times are adjusted via a backlit number range for each ring, which is not only very convenient but also particularly elegant.

Pan/pan-size sensing Pan-size sensors are activated when a ferro-magnetic pan is placed on a ring. In addition, the size of the pan is recognised within the graphics on the ceramic screen and once pans are removed from the rings, energy output is interrupted. This translates as high operational safety and results in energy savings. Should no pan be detected, the energy output is automatically interrupted.

Auto heat-up Auto heat-up initiates the cooking process with full output and continues cooking with reduced output. This feature is available on all cooking zones and takes out the step of reducing the power setting after the heat-up is complete which is particularly handy when bringing pasta water to the initial boil with the maximum setting and continue to cook it at a reduced setting.

Timer The timer allows cooking durations of up to 9.5 h to be selected. Once the time has elapsed, the cooking zone switches off automatically. The timer can also be used as a minute minder.

NB Features will vary depending on model

5

Miele technology highlights

Con@ctivity Con@ctivity allows a rangehood to communicate with a cooktop unit down below. Information is gathered directly from the cooktop and evaluated by the rangehood controls. The rangehood reacts automatically to settings made at the cooktop. • User convenience and a perfect kitchen micro-climate through automatic power control • High-level user convenience through automatic activation of the cooker hood • Removal of kitchen odours thanks to automatic fan run-on • No fingerprints on cooker hood

TwinBooster The TwinBooster setting allows operation at the maximum power output for 15 minutes and can be selected in 2 steps to a maximum load of 3,700 W. For you this means additional time saving due to extremely short heat-up times of large quantities of liquid. In particular, with the Twin Booster setting you get the benefit of choosing between dedicating the available electrical load to a single zone and thus deactivating the corresponding zone or choosing Booster setting I with an output slightly below the absolute maximum and still being able to use the corresponding cooking zone for continued cooking, for example.

‘Keeping warm’ function Rather than selecting the lowest setting, which could potentially cause food to burn on, this practical setting with an integrated temperature sensor allows foods (i.e. sauces or soups) to be kept at serving temperature, independent of quantities for optimum meal planning.

New feature, please check availability Stop & Go The Stop & Go function allows power to be reduced to Setting 1 on all rings at once. It is simple and fast, i.e. when the door bell rings or a telephone needs to be answered, so that food doesn’t burn, overcook or boil over. “Go” then reinstates all previously selected settings.

NB Features will vary depending on model

6

Safety

Residual heat indicator A three-stage residual heat indicator for each ring shows how hot rings are, as the heat reflected from the pan base may still cause the surface to heat up. High operational safety and optimum protection from injury and burns.

Programme lock function By touching the sensor control with the key symbol, functions and power settings are locked to protect against unauthorised or accidental alterations which could affect the desired cooking result.

System Lock Locks the controls of the appliance altogether and protects against tampering and unauthorised use of the cooktop, i.e. by children.

Fault monitoring A spillage or items placed on the controls results in the automatic switch-off of the entire cooktop and protects against inadvertent changes to programmes.

Safety switch-off The cooktop is automatically deactivated after a maximum number of operating hours to prevent operating errors, such as forgetting to switch off the cooktop.

Overheating protection Should the cooktop detect an overheating, such as by an empty pan boiling dry, it automatically switches off of the cooking zone to protect the induction coil and cooktop.

Flush-mount induction cooktops: Miele flush-mounted induction cooktops are ideal for creating perfectly smooth and stream-lined benchtop surfaces, without any raised frames or ceramic glass screens to disturb a clean visual appeal of the kitchen design. From a Miele engineering perspective, Miele flush-mount cooktops have been designed for and are thus deemed suitable for installation in granite, marble, tiled or solid wood benchtops. For all other types of benchtops, such as reconstituted stone or resin-based materials for example, please consult the benchtop manufacturer whether they can be used with a flush-fit cooktop.

Ceramic HiLight cooktops

Design Timeless and elegant Design The design of Miele’s ceramic cooktops is characterised by puristic and linear elegance. With their stainless steel frame and dark glass ceramic screen they are an elegant addition to any style of kitchen design. Due to the extremely short heat-up times of the HiLight elements, cooking times are considerably reduced while heat is evenly distributed.

NB Features will vary depending on model

11

Features & benefits

HiLight technology

HiLight heater elements HiLight heater elements create radiant heat with rapid heat-up of approx. 3 seconds which means that the cooktop is immediately ready for use. The design of the HiLight heater filaments ensures a very even distribution of heat.

Dual-circuit cooking zone A cooking zone extension enables a normal and a large cooking zone for increased flexibility as various sizes of pots and pans and/or casserole dishes can be used.

Casserole area Two 18 cm zones can be extended to provide a 41 cm long race-track cooking zone by engaging an additional heating element for increased flexibility as round pans or casserole dishes work on the same cooking zone.

DirectSelection Plus controls Each cooking zone features its own dedicated set of linear back-lit numerical sensor touch controls for intuitive rapid selection of power settings and cooking durations, so you don’t even have to pre-select the cooking zone.

Timer The timer allows for cooking duration of up to 9.5 hours. Once the time set has elapsed, the cooking zone switches off automatically. The timer can also be used as a minute minder.

Controls

DirectSelection controls The centrally located controls are designed for intuitive rapid selection of power settings and cooking durations for all cooking zones via linear numerical sensor touch pads, simply select the cooking zone, and what level you want to cook at, without having to repeatedly use the + or - buttons.

12

Convenience

Auto heat-up The very convenient Auto heat-up starts the cooking process up at full output followed by continued cooking at a reduced setting and is available on all cooking zones of the electronically controlled models. Boiling water for pasta is simplified as there is no manual intervention necessary to reduce the power setting to prevent water from boiling over.

Individual programming Sensor controls enable you to customise features such as the system lock, the buzzer and the power settings to suit your personal preferences.

Stop & Go The Stop & Go function allows power to be reduced to Setting 1 on all zones at once. This simple and fast reduction of power output comes in handy when answering the telephone or the door-bell rings. Food cannot burn, overcook or boil over while you leave the kitchen to briefly tend to other things.

Residual heat indicators An indicator for each zone shows whether it is still hot to touch and thus ensures optimum operational safety to protect from injury and burns.

Programme and system lock By touching the padlock sensor, the functions and power settings are locked to protect against tampering, e.g. by children, and thus an unwanted change of output which could result in a spoilt dish. Alternatively, the cooktop can be disabled altogether to prevent the cooktop being used unintentionally or unauthorised, e.g. by children.

Safety switch-off and fault monitoring Intelligent controls automatically switch the entire cooktop off in the event of a spillage or items being placed on the controls and thus protects against inadvertent changes to programmes, for example. Also, this feature automatically deactivates the cooktop after max. number of operating hours and prevents operating errors, such as forgetting to switch the cooktop off.

Gas cooktops

Sustainability Efficient and environmentally friendly Cooking with gas is a very traditional method and liked for its immediate control of the flame and professional appeal. However, with Miele, tradition doesn’t stand in the way of important topical issues, such as sustainability. Gas is a primary energy source and doesn’t produce any pollutants when being used in the process of creating heat energy. Cooking with gas is thus an important ecological and economical alternative. Select models even offer advanced electronic controls for added user convenience and safety benefits, taking tradition into the current millenium.

16

Choice of controls Only because cooking with gas is a traditional method does not mean that Miele gas cooktops have to be conventional. In addition to the modern design, you have the choice between mechanic controls or intelligent electronic controls. Gas cooktops with traditional controls These models have electro-mechanical controls with single-handed ignition. As an important safety feature, the thermoelectric flame failure feature, or in simple words an automatic gas stop, interrupts the gas supply should the flame be blown out by a draft.

Electronically controlled gas cooktops These intelligent controls add valuable benefits over and above the traditional controls. Rapid ignition makes lighting the flame so much easier by just turning the dial without pressing and holding it. In case of a flame failure, the automatic flame monitoring and reignition feature will reignite the flame and continue to monitor the process. For added peace of mind, there is a safety shut-off, preventing unlimited and uncontrolled operation of the cooktop.

17

Features & benefits

High quality design

Individual design Commercial look stainless steel or elegant black ceramic look - Miele offers a broad range of design options to suit your individual kitchen design.

Enamelled cast iron pot rest Miele gas cooktops feature enamelled cast iron pot rests, which underline the highquality appeal and make them easy to clean.

Front control panel Rather than favouring right-handed users with a control panel placed to the side, all Miele gas cooktops feature frontal controls for safe and simple control of the cooking process. Select models even feature solid metal dials for a heightened haptic experience every time you use your cooktop.

Thermo-electric ignition control Every Miele gas cooktop features thermoelectric ignition control which prevents any uncontrolled flow of gas should the flame be blown out by a draft, for example. By the same token, gas cannot flow uncontrolled, giving you complete peace of mind.

Wok burners Cooking with gas and wok cooking are synonymous. Every Miele gas cooktop features at least one wok burner in two variations. A mono wok burner with a single control circuit for both flame rings or a dual wok burner which allows for separate control of the two flame rings, giving it a greater range starting from a lower output for gentle simmering, for example.

Top level equipment

Optimum burner configuration Miele gas cooktops offer a wide choice of burner types, ranging from simmer burners for slow and gentle cooking to maximum heat output with single or dual circuit wok burners for heating up large quantities of liquid or Asian-style wok cooking.

18

Added value of electronic controls

Rapid ignition No more pressing down and holding the dial until the flame is established - electronically controlled cooktops feature rapid ignition and are particularly easy to start up.

Automatic reignition When a flame is blown out by a draft, the electronically controlled cooktops monitor the flame and initiate automatic reignition. Should this not be successful, the electronic controls will interrupt the gas supply for complete peace of mind.

Safety switch-off In the interest of added operational safety, electronically controlled cooktops switch off automatically when they are in operation for an extensive period of time

High quality materials Just like you wouldn’t accept anything less than the best ingredients in your cooking, Miele only ever utilises the highest-grade materials and components. Starting with the stainless steel to electronic controls designed and made in-house to the cast iron grates, you will find that it complements your very high standards.

Metal dials Solid metal dials underline the high-end appeal and support the professional approach to cooking.

Angled fascia The inclinded fascia isn’t just a design feature but adds ergonomical benefits.

Display elements Select models offer a display with up to three display modes, such as in operation or residual heat indicators for example.

27

CombiSet highlights

Induction wok Traditional wok cooking meets modern high-tech: Miele’s wok sits in a precisely shaped wok mould for optimum heat distribution and intelligent sensor technology prevents that food or oils over-heat and protects the anti-stick coating in the wok pan from deterioration. Additional features such as the intelligent Booster technology will truly add a modern touch to the tried and tested benefits of cooking in a wok.

Salamander A Salamander is a tool that professional restaurants know as the heat lamps in the passe station, the area between kitchen and service, to keep food warm. Miele’s Salamander has plenty more uses, for example you can caramelise, melt, bake, or brown with its halogen heater element producing ample infra-red heat. And as an impressive show-stopper at every dinner party, by the flick of the dial, you can activate its electrical motor to lower it into and raise it from the benchtop!

28

TepanYaki Cooking inspired by Japanese cuisine where food is cooked directly on the hot stainless steel surface. Two separate heater circuits front and back allow cooking with two different temperatures or keeping one dish warm while another is created. A stainless steel channel collects any juices for easy cleaning.

Barbecue grill The all-year alternative to traditional outdoor barbecuing, independent of the seasons and the weather. Fish, meat, vegetable receive their unique barbecued flavours when they are prepared onthe Miele barbecue CombiSet with its two independent heater circuits for different temeprature settings. To vary the flavour characteristics, you also have a choice of grilling over lava rocks and water for smoky results, or just water for succulent results!

Installation notes

Please note Installation notes and diagrams in this brochure should be used as a planning guide only and must be read in conjunction with the more comprehensive operating and/or installation instructions supplied with each product which can be accessed on-line in advance for your planning purposes via www.miele.com.au or www.miele.co.nz. Gas installation Connection to the gas supply, or conversion from one type of gas to another should only be undertaken by an approved gas fitter, who is responsible for correct functioning of the appliance when installed. Every appliance should have its own isolating valve. The gas connection must be installed so that connection can be made either from inside or outside the kitchen unit, and the isolating valve must be easily accessible and visible (by opening one of the kitchen unit doors, if necessary). Check with your local gas supplier about the type of gas and its calorific value, and compare this information with the type of gas quoted on the cooktop data plate. Electrical connection All electrical work should be carried out by a suitably qualified and competent person in strict accordance with national and local safety regulations. Induction cooktops For people fitted with a heart pacemaker: Please note that when in operation the area immediately surrounding the cooktop is electromagnetically charged, and under certain conditions, this could affect the proper functioning of a pacemaker. If in any doubt, please consult the manufacturer of the pacemaker or your health care professional. Installation of two or more CombiSet appliances in a run When installing two or more appliances next to each other a CSZL 1000 spacer bar needs to be fitted between each one and the worktop cut-out calculated as follows: Worktop cut-out – two appliances

Worktop cut-out – three appliances

When installing two appliances, the width of the cut-out required D is calculated by adding the widths of appliances A and C and deducting 16 mm from this figure.

When installing three appliances, the width of the cut-out required D is calculated by adding the widths of appliances A, B and C and deducting 16 mm from this figure.
