A NOTE FROM US Kathryn Tremblay, Co-Founder & CEO of AltisITR I’m proud to share this Canadian Black-Owned Business Guide for many reasons. Being an entrepreneur myself, I know the long hours and devotion that building an organization takes. I want to celebrate the ingenuity and the passion that the business owners included in this guide are bringing to their company, their customers, and their community. Secondly, and most importantly, I want to specifically honour Black excellence; these entrepreneurs are creating the future that Canada will live into. I’m encouraging business owners and purchasing professionals to bookmark these companies and include them in their upcoming acquisition needs. Black-owned business growth will propel our nation.
Barbara Yebuga, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Consultant Black Canadians have a history of overcoming systemic barriers, creating businesses that are innovative, growing our economy and creating jobs. From accounting services to grocery stores, these entrepreneurs are not only providing excellent services and products, they also continue to give back to the community. They are driving solutions to social determinants of health such as food insecurity and mental health. The people behind these businesses are not only creative entrepreneurs they are also inspiring community leaders: People like Issac Olowolafe Jr who recognized the diversity disparities in the tech space. He started Dream Maker Ventures - DMV , investing in early-stage tech companies founded by people of colour, women, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ+ professionals, immigrants, refugees, and indigenous entrepreneurs. 16 year old entrepreneur Marcus McGowan started Glovely, a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) supply company to help keep Canadians safe during these unprecedented times. Community leaders Camille and Roger Dundas who wanted to show the everyday excellence in the Black community by creating an award-winning publication, Byblacks.com. Making the purchasing decision to acquire products and services from Black owned businesses is one important step in creating economic security for marginalized groups.
