Encore! is a word that has historically traveled the Harbor Playhouse walls. For more than 89 years, The Harbor Playhouse has been bringing magic to the Coastal Bend as a premiere live performance venue. Tracing its history back to 1925, the organization known now as Harbor Playhouse Company began with a newspaper advertisement for performers interested in being a part of the production Seventeen by Booth Tarkington. Since its roots as the “Little Theatre”, the Harbor Playhouse, has gone through a series of changes. All of great historical importance to the Corpus Christi community. In 1972, the Sam’s Foundation approached the Little Theatre board of directors with the offer to build a new community theatre in what would become Bayfront Plaza. The City of Corpus Christi provided the land and the Sam’s Foundation paid for construction of the facility, which was then given to the City of Corpus Christi as a

gift to the community. The Little Theatre Corpus Christi officially changed its name to Harbor Playhouse Company and moved into the new facility in 1976, opening the theatre with a production of 1776. The new facility included a proscenium theatre which seats 454 people, a shop connected to the backstage area, dressing rooms, an open and inviting lobby with a view of the Bayfront, and a concession stand. After continuous additions and enhancements to the Harbor Playhouse it is now located in the Arts District, the cultural heart of Corpus Christi, 1802 North Chaparral - Building #2, their home for the past 40 years. Annually there are more than 700 volunteers, actors, technicians, and support staff who give their time…100,000+ hours per season! Volunteers range in age from 5 to 80 and reflect the cultural diversity of the area. With a varied schedule of contemporary and classic musicals and plays for both

Audiences include patrons of all ages from communities near and far. With a rich history and a multitude of talented staff and volunteers, the Harbor Playhouse has had many successful productions. Some of the most recent successes include A Christmas Carol, You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown, Annie, Les Miserables, Shrek The Musical, Willy Wonka, and La Cage to name a few. The Corpus Christi community has spoken and Harbor Playhouse has listened. This year,

starting on November 20, 2015, Harbor Playhouse is bringing back A Christmas Carol for an encore every weekend through December 20th. This timeless classic is a spectacular musical, which tells the tale of Ebenezer Scrooge as he goes through a series of strange events after being warned by his former business partner Jacob Marley to change his ways. This brilliant musical follows Scrooge on Christmas Eve, as he is visited by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, which leads him to ultimately discover the true spirit of Christmas. A Christmas Carol is a great family classic that you do not want to miss. For more information visit www.harborplayhouse.com. NOVEMBER 2015

A BOAT NORTH & SOUTH JETTY The Port Aransas Jetties are some of the most popular places to fish in South Texas. Most popular catches include flounder, speckled trout and drum here.

FISHING

COASTAL BEND Fishing in the Coastal Bend Bay area is excellent all year round. In the Coastal Bend, there are typically three kinds of fishing; Shallow Water, Deep Water and Fresh Water.

SHALLOW WATER Along the bays, Laguna Madre and the shores of Padre Island and Port Aransas is where you’ll catch speckled trout, redfish, whiting, drum and flounder. DEEP WATER Typically, off the shores of Port Aransas to Rockport are “where they bite everyday”. Whether you’re in a private or chartered boat, sport fishermen can try for amberjack, red snapper and tuna year round - if you’re searching for a big marlin and bill fish, you’re best bet is from May to September.

24 COASTAL BEND VISITORS GUIDE

FRESH WATER Located 40 miles northwest of Corpus Christi in Mathis, at Lake Corpus Christi, there are 200 miles of shoreline with excellent fishing for bass, catfish and crappie.

FISHING LICENSES AND PRICES In order to go fresh or salt water fishing, you must have a Texas fishing license. Annual fees for Out of State licenses range from $55-$65 - however one day licenses are only $15. For Texas residents, licenses range from $28-$38. Licenses can be picked up at any local Stripes store and local sporting goods stores.
