Texas is not just the land of cowboys and oil barons, it’s also home to thousands of surfers who are just as stoked and dedicated to their sport as any Californian or Hawaiian. The Texas Surf Museum, which opened in 2005 in Corpus Christi, explores the history of surfing in general and showcases the Lone Star State’s unique place in that history. The Texas Surf Museum is a must-see for anyone who ever surfed, and a delightful adventure for non-surfers as well. Relax on a bench made from surfboards, catch a surf film in the projection theater, and spot old buddies and young stars in the hundreds of photos scat-
tered throughout the museum. In June 2014, TSM transitioned from a privately-owned museum into a 501(c)(3) organization. This transition will allow the Museum to be an active part of the community, provide educational opportunities for local and surrounding schools, and for the community to be a part of the Museum. The Texas Surf Museum is on a mission to enlighten the world with the unique culture and history of Texas Surfing. Nicole More, Texas Surf Museum Director, strives to educate visitors on the healthy lifestyle of surfing, proper conservation

FISHING
COASTAL BEND Fishing in the Coastal Bend Bay area is excellent all year round. In the Coastal Bend, there are typically three kinds of fishing; Shallow Water, Deep Water and Fresh Water.
SHALLOW WATER Along the bays, Laguna Madre and the shores of Padre Island and Port Aransas is where you’ll catch speckled trout, redfish, whiting, drum and flounder. DEEP WATER Typically, off the shores of Port Aransas to Rockport are “where they bite everyday”. Whether you’re in a private or chartered boat, sport fishermen can try for amberjack, red snapper and tuna year round - if you’re searching for a big marlin and bill fish, you’re best bet is from May to September.

FRESH WATER Located 40 miles northwest of Corpus Christi in Mathis, at Lake Corpus Christi, there are 200 miles of shoreline with excellent fishing for bass, catfish and crappie. Annual fees for Out of State licenses range from $55-$65 - however one day licenses are only $15. For Texas residents, licenses range from $28-$38.
