GW Men’s Soccer Team Trip to Spain Trip Organized by Excel International Sports
GW Men’s soccer team invades Barcelona…… George Washington University Men’s soccer team recently took a trip to Barcelona, Spain where they immersed themselves in the culture, and took in all that Barcelona had to offer. Highlights of their trip were playing three competitive games against some of Barcelona’s top football teams, a beach cleanup in the city of Santa Susanna, and they topped off their trip with a visit to Camp Nou to watch a match between Barcelona FC and Rayo Vallecan. The team was lucky enough to witness Lionel Messi score an amazing hat-trick. Q&A with Senior Matthew Scott: Q) How was your overall experience of the trip? I had a great time in Spain. The soccer, the food, touring new places, everything worked very smoothly and helped give us an unforgettable experience. We were treated brilliantly from the moment we arrived at Dulles airport and it helped our team cohesiveness. Q) What was your main highlight(s) of the trip? For me, seeing Lionel Messi score a hat trick has to be the main highlight. He is a player that will be talked about forever as one of the great's of the sport, so to witness him do that was an excellent feeling. I'm sure that all of us that were there will talk about that moment for a long time to come. Q) Did you individually or as a team learn anything from this experience? As a team I think we took a lot out of the trip. It is sometimes hard for us to spend that much time together as people usually have other commitments like school work, but we were able to get to know each other a lot better on this trip. We were exposed to new playing styles from our Spanish opponents and we were able to adapt quickly and put up a valiant effort. I think this can only improve us heading into next Spring.
