PERRY HALL WHITE MARSH SC TRIP TO IRELAND
After a very successful spring touring season with sixteen Olympic Development Program, professional and college teams traveling, WorldStrides Excel’s first trip of the summer was kicked off with Perry Hall White Marsh Soccer Club’s (PWHM) ten day tour to Dublin and Galway Ireland. On June 23rd, 2016 PHWM departed Dulles International Airport where they would indulge in a new culture; enjoy sightseeing tours, and most of all, SOCCER! PHWM arrived at Dublin International Airport and shortly after getting settled in kicked off their soccer tour with a light practice session and attendance at a professional match between Shamrock Rovers and Cork City at Tallaght Stadium. In the blink of an eye, day three was already here and it was time for PHWM to lace up for their first international friendly game against Shelbourne LFC. It was a high scoring affair, ending in a 5-5 tie. Afterwards the team went out to lunch with Shelbourne LFC making it a great start to the trip! The Warriors had a fun day in the city which started off with a trip to the Dublin fanzone to watch France vs. Ireland in the UEFA Round of 16. Despite the end result, the Warriors had a great time with several thousand locals rooting and cheering for Ireland.
The next day the team enjoyed more cultural experiences by visiting St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the Dublin Castle. Their day concluded with their second friendly match vs. Peamont United. After falling behind 2-0 within the first 15 minutes, the Warriors recovered with 5 unanswered goals and walked away with a 5-2 victory! After spending four days in Dublin it was time for PHWM to depart for Galway, Ireland where they would stay for the remainder of the trip. Shortly after arriving, the team headed off to explore the city. Eyre Square, The Town Walls, Lynch Castle, the Collegiate Church of St. Nicholas, and The Spanish Arch were just some of the famous landmarks they came across. Following a day of traveling and sightseeing it was time for PHWM to participate in their third friendly match vs. Corrib Rangers. The Warriors came out victorious again with a 3-2 victory. With only a couple of days remaining on their trip, PHWM enjoyed a day full of activities and team bonding. In the morning they explored Ireland not from walking, biking, or driving but from kayaking on the River Suck. It was time to head back to the pitch where PHWM was playing in their fourth friendly match vs. Kilkerrin United at Father Lynch Park. It was a hard fought match but PHWM fell short losing 3-2.

The Warriors saved the best for last when they departed for the stunning Cliffs of Moher. Standing 700 feet at their highest point, the cliffs stretch for 5 miles along the Atlantic Coast of County Clare in the west of Ireland. The views were simply phenomenal. With the tour ending it was time for PHWM to say their goodbye to the country of Ireland, but the memories that they made together will last forever.
