LEADING LUXURY BRANDS PARTNER WITH TRILBY TOUR

he Trilby Tour has continued to build towards its much-awaited return under new owners Darwin Escapes, by announcing partnerships with luxury brands Glenmuir, Motocaddy and Duca del Cosma. The agreements will see each partner brand providing prize incentives for the new-look Trilby Tour, which is returning to Sky Sports in 2022 and will see female amateurs dueling for the prize pots for the first time in the tour’s history. The prize value across the series, which culminates in The Grand Final at Dundonald Links in September, has increased to £10,000 following these partnerships. All championship competitors will receive a Glenmuir shirt, while championship winners receive a pair of Duca del Cosma shoes, a brandnew Motocaddy S1 electric trolley and a Glenmuir top-to-toe outfit. The winner of the Grand Final will also be fully kitted out by Glenmuir along with a Sunderland Golf Waterproof suit and weather wear, and receive two pairs of Duca del Cosma shoes – on and off course models - with Cabretta gloves, plus a Motocaddy M5 GPS electric trolley with a ProSeries cart bag and a Pro 3000 Laser Rangefinder. There will also be a Motocaddy PRO 3000 on offer at each event for the nearest-to-the-pin competition. A total of 60 players from the championship qualifiers will fight it out at The Grand Final where

FOXHILLS GEARS UP FOR RETURN OF PGA CUP

oxhills Club & Resort has cemented its standing as a prime venue for professional tournaments as it prepares to host the PGA Cup for the second time this September. After successfully holding the prestigious event in 2017, the Surrey resort becomes only the second Great Britain & Ireland venue in the PGA Cup’s 49-year history to be chosen twice, following the lead of 2006 Ryder Cup host venue, The K Club in Ireland (1992 and 2005).

Creek Resort in Austin, Texas, but the hosts produced a remarkable comeback to win 14-12. The PGA Cup will again be played on Foxhills’ esteemed Longcross course. Surrounded by Scots pine, beech and silver birch, it is renowned as one of Surrey’s top tree-lined layouts and consistently features in UK top 100 rankings.

The PGA Cup is a contest steeped in history between The PGA of Great Britain & Ireland and the PGA of America. The event is seen as the pinnacle for any PGA Professional as both teams go head-to-head in a Ryder Cup format to win The Llandudno International Trophy. Albert Mackenzie led Great Britain & Ireland to an emphatic 16-10 victory in 2017 as his team recorded back-to-back wins over the Americans for the very first time, marking a memorable event the last time Foxhills hosted. The 2022 competition will take place between 16 and 18 September and will be the 30th meeting of the two teams. Great Britain & Ireland will be looking to regain the title on home soil after the Americans were crowned winners last time out following a dramatic meeting in 2019. osta Navarino – Europe’s newest golf destination has been unveiled with the opening of the new 36-hole Navarino Hills golf development, marking a new era for Costa Navarino. The world’s first International Olympic Academy Golf Course and the neighboring Hills Course, as well as the new Hills Clubhouse, made their debut right at the start of the 2022 golf season. They provide the ideal complement to the destination’s existing signature golf courses, The Dunes Course and The Bay Course, and mean that players of all levels can now enjoy the challenge of four signature golf courses, within a 13km maximum distance. Designed by two-time Masters champion José María Olazábal and situated over 125 hectares overlooking the historic Bay of Navarino and the

Ionian Sea, the new layouts are set in a unique location affording views to the sea, mountains and valleys. Measuring 6,366m, the International Olympic Academy Golf Course received widespread acclaim when it was played for the first time at the fifth Messinia Pro-Am in November. The Hills Course is slightly shorter at 6,280m in length, with both courses featuring an average green size of 669m², a 60-bay driving range and a 15,000m² short game area. Olazábal said: “Costa Navarino ranks among the most beautiful places I have ever been to. Over the past five years, we have worked hard to shape two courses that not only respect the stunning surroundings but that also fit as naturally as possible into the terrain.

Golfers will find the International Olympic Academy Golf Course to be more polished in style and full of spectacular views across the Bay of Navarino while the Hills Course offers more of a rural feel, where we take you out through the gently rolling hills.

Opening alongside the two courses, will be the Hills Clubhouse. SIK’s “descending loft technology” features four one-degree loft increments on the face, starting at 4 degrees at the top of the putter descending down to 1 degree at the lowest part of the face.

Bryson’s yardage gains off the tee have been the talk of the game over recent seasons however, his performances with his putter have been just as impressive.

The science behind this is that players routinely produce inconsistent downward and upward paths to impact leading to different contact points.

With multiple worldwide victories including the US Open to his name, US Ryder Cup star DeChambeau – referred to as ‘The Scientist’ because of his analytical approach to the game took full advantage of SIK’s game-changing technology which has given him way more consistency and allowed him to make more putts with optimal launch angle and a better roll. “It’s my secret weapon, I guess you could say,” DeChambeau said, “It was not a strength of mine coming out on Tour. I wasn’t a great putter, and I was still trying to find a way that would be consistent for me to play the game, and I stumbled upon it. I have been a great putter and improved every single year.”

Loft changes on the putter face are designed to match up with contact points. A higher face impact is the result of a downward stroke path or delofting motion, so extra loft counteracts that stroke’s effect. A lower face impact is from an upward stroke path that adds loft so that area of the face has the least loft. SIK’s aim is to produce a consistent launch angle for better roll consistency and distance control.

The stats back up his assertion that his SIK putter has become his secret weapon. In DeChambeau’s first season on the PGA Tour in 2017, he ranked 145th in Putting Strokes Gained. Since then, he’s made rapid improvements ranking 32nd, 28th and 10th over recent seasons.

BRYSON DECHAMBEAU ON HIS PUTTING TECHNIQUE Instead of using a standard putting form, DeChambeau opts for an arm-lock putting technique on the green. “I struggled really badly for a while,” says DeChambeau, “Nothing can bother me under pressure now. I am super smooth and super controlled.” Bryson uses SIK’s Arm-Lock putter WHICH STYLE ARE YOU? WHAT IS ARMLOCK PUTTING? This style of putting gets its name from the fact that the putter remains “locked” to your lead forearm. Your grip is pressed into the inner part of your lead arm. By keeping this contact for the duration of your putting stroke golfers can keep the putter head from rotating too much through impact which helps to promote consistency and rhythm. “Because I have something to brace the putter against and lock it in, this allows me to be more repeatable,” DeChambeau says. “Then I also get really stiff and what people call robotic looking. This allows me to repeat motion on a higher level.”

SIK’S ARMLOCK PUTTER Due to the forward lean of the putter in the arm-lock position, golfers need a higher-lofted putter. While a traditional putter may have a loft of around 3.5 degrees, arm-lock putters can have a loft as high as 12 degrees. “You have to add more loft. With however much you deloft it, you have to add that loft back on,” DeChambeau says. “For me, my loft is around 7 to 7.5 degrees depending on the surface type.” Most arm-lock putters measure between 40 and 43 inches in length. New flight routes to boost tourism

he popularity of Madeira as a holiday destination for European golfers is set to soar even further this year with the launch of five new flight routes to the sunshine island – from Ireland, France, Belgium and Italy. The islands will be more accessible than ever to golfers from this spring following Ryanair’s announcement that they will be operating new flights to Madeira’s capital Funchal from five airports: Dublin, Paris Beauvais and Marseille in France, Brussels Charleroi and MilanBergamo. The twice-weekly services are part of a new schedule revealed by the low-cost airline. Adding capacity to already serviced cities such as Manchester, London Stansted and Nuremberg, Ryanair’s introduction of 10 routes will connect Madeira with mainland Portugal and six other European countries, helping to strengthen the archipelago’s position as one of the continent’s leading tourism destinations.

At just 277 grams, the AIR-X driver delivers a new level of lightweight performance to improve feel and maximize clubhead speed and distance for players with moderate swing speeds.

COBRA’s AIR-X line is anchored by new and improved metalwoods that have been re-engineered with new weight saving technologies. The AIR-X drivers now feature a lighter and thinner ply carbon crown that is 30% thinner than the previous generation (F-MAX).

EQUIPMENT The new thin-ply carbon fiber saves a total of 5 additional grams compared to last year’s carbon fiber construction, allowing COBRA engineers to reduce the clubhead weight by 2 grams (190g total) while maintaining a high MOI of 5,000 for maximum stability and forgiveness. To add to the weight saving technologies, the driver now utilizes a standard size 37g Lamkin grip, which is 4 grams lighter than last year’s model, and a sub-50-gram ULTRALITE shaft. Together, the lighter grip (-4g), lighter head (-2g), and lighter shaft (-2g) combine to bring the total overall weight to an unbelievably light 277 grams - 8 grams lighter than its predecessor. In addition, the AIR-X Drivers feature heel-biased weighting and an offset hosel design to help correct a slice and make it easier to hit straighter drives down the fairway. Updated for 2022 is an offset that is increased by 20% delivering even more slice correction for those who need it. For players who prefer a traditional, square setup at address, the AIR-X Drivers are also available in a straight neck model. COBRA’s new AIR-X Fairways employ similar weight-saving innovations as the driver, including the updated lighter weight carbon crown, and a 6-gram lighter 41g Lamkin grip.
