WELCOME FROM EXERTIS Welcome to the final edition of the year for Future Mobility magazine. It’s certainly been a challenging twelve months with slower growth in the smartphone market but signs of stabilisation in the computing world. Samsung continues to dominate the smartphone global sector and indeed increased its market share to 22.3% in Q3 according to IDC’s quarterly tracker. Gaming has made a positive impact on the desktop market, although notebooks continue to drive the PC sector. 2 in 1s are particularly in demand and you can read how these are being increasingly deployed in business in one of our features on page 35. The BYOD discussion has been on-going for some time as more employees look to use their own familiar devices in the workplace or at home but connected to the corporate network. The challenge is always about balancing productivity with security and the debate continues on page 14.

Naturally, we all like to be using the latest device, so extending the “as a service” model to hardware can have major benefits for companies. This could also be applied to smartphones. You can read about that in our DaaS article on page 31.

NEWS IN BRIEF

SECURITY FEARS AROUND IOT According to research from Gemalto, businesses (86%) and consumers (92%) want government to take charge of regulating the IoT sector. The survey maintained that sales or product use were directly linked with security. More than half of consumers in the survey claimed to own an IoT device but only 14% knew how to protect it. The report maintained that around (65%) of consumers fear that hackers will take control of their devices, more than data being leaked (60%) or personal information being accessed (54%).
ANOTHER USE CASE FOR LINX EXSPECT Wo Working with leading kiosk manufacturer, imageHolders, Exertis has found another ima ho home for its Linx Exspect Windows tablets. Already installed in Hollywood Bowl sites, Alr automotive service receptions and as aut recently reported used by FingoPay (one rec o the first commercial uses of finger vein of tec technology for POS deployed at Brunel Un University in collaboration with Costcutter), Linx Exspect is set to feature at ICE in Lin February 2018, a major event for gaming solution providers. Tablet kiosks at events provide exhibitors with opportunities to interact with customers and the Linx Exspect tablet is perfect and familiar for visitors with its Windows 10 operating system. Linx Exspect is a popular, cost-effective choice of tablet for many imageHOLDERS customers due to driver compatibility and great technical support. Exertis also offers an optional upgrade for Windows Professional and IoT Enterprise which offers kiosk lockdown. Linx Exspect tablets come in three sizes, 8”, 10” and 12” with further iterations in software capabilities. imageHOLDERS can securely enclose all available versions of the Linx Exspect tablets.
A RETRO LOOK WITH 3G IT GETS BUDGET BOOST The Autumn Budget has earmarked a further £500m investment into 5G, artificial intelligence, and full fibre broadband. Over a third (£160m) is committed to the development of, and security for, 5G networks across the UK. Electric cars received a huge £400m investment, followed by £100m for plug in infrastructure and £40m in charging research and development. The government is aiming to have driverless cars on roads by 2021. According to a report in Mobile News, Intel® said the announcement “marks the beginning of the global driving revolution”. Intel® claims the economy created by autonomous driving will grow from $800bn (£603bn) to $7tn (£5.27tn) globally, as fully autonomous vehicles become common. However, a report in the New Statesman said the lack of investment into driverless technology concerned many, with experts fearing that the UK may be left behind in the driverless race.
The Nokia 3310 now has an improved retro design, brand new colours and is 3G enabled. With new customisation options for rearranging icons and choosing colour themes, the Nokia 3310 3G maintains its iconic shaped design but now provides more spacing between the buttons, for easier dialling, texting and tweeting. It has up to 6.5 hours of talk time and an impressive up to 27 days of standby time to stay in touch. In keeping with the series’ bold and colourful heritage, the Nokia 3310 3G is available in four distinctive colours – the ever popular Yellow and Warm Red, and beautiful new Azure and Charcoal hues, all with a matte finish and new silver keypads. And yes, it still has Snake.

WHEN IN ROAM, ROAM A new study from Juniper Research has found that the introduction of unlimited roaming will significantly drive usage by data roamers, leading to an average data usage exceeding 1GB by the end of 2020. Juniper forecasts that the global average roaming data usage per user per annum will increase from around 500MB in 2017 to almost 1.6GB by 2022. Whilst Silent Roamers, those that don’t use voice and data services at all while roaming, are expected to continue to decline to 53% by 2022, they still represent a significant part of the market and a more lucrative segment for operators to target to offset the loss of revenue as a result of Roam Like at Home packages.
MOBILE DEVICES ARE BECOMING A MORE IMPORTANT PART OF THE WAY PEOPLE SHOP Black Friday online sales hit an all-time high this year in the US says a news report from Fortune featured by Business Intelligence, growing 24% year-over-year (YoY), according to data from Salesforce’s retail intelligence unit and Adobe Analytics. Online spending totalled $5bn, up significantly from $3.34bn last year. This was the first year that computers generated less than half of all online orders, comprising only 49% of online sales on Black Friday. At the same time, purchases made on smartphones rose to make up 40% of sales, up 29% from last year. According to Shopify mobile purchases surpassed desktop throughout the entire weekend (Black Friday and Cyber Monday) perhaps due to improvements to the mobile shopping experience. Mobile sales accounted for 64% of orders overall, an increase of 10% year-over-year. The UK was one of three countries that saw the biggest increase in sales compared to an average day in November according to the Shopify blog.
Research author Nitin Bhas said: “There is very limited room for improvement on voice roaming in terms of increasing the scale of revenue. However, with data, alongside the potential to offer customised, contextual roaming bundles and services, the cost per MB is expected to fall significantly in most regions. This will encourage ‘non-data’ roamers to become active roamers.”

BALANCING SECURITY
AND PRODUCTIVITY
FOR MOBILE DEVICES BYOD MOMENTUM Striking the balance between security, productivity, employee motivation and expenditure still remains the major considerations on the deployment of BYOD in companies. Allowing employees to work with their own personally owned device, be it a laptop, tablet or smartphone, is gaining considerable momentum according to some analysts. Research from Tech Pro last year maintained that 59% of organisations in the US were already allowing employees to use their own device, with another 13% planning to adopt the same within a year. To put the growth into perspective, Global Market Insights forecast the BYOD market to be worth almost $367bn by 2022 at a CAGR of 15%. Whilst, no one can doubt the momentum, Gartner’s prediction in 2013 that half of companies globally would stop providing devices to their employees and expect them to use their own device by 2017 seems to have been somewhat optimistic. However, a Syntonic report (mid 2016) maintained that 87% of companies relied on their employees to access business apps from their personal devices. Whichever report or statistic you choose to believe, the challenge has always been around employees’ capability of protecting their devices, particularly in relation to company data.
Moreover, challenges around security aren’t just confined to the BYOD model. Research by Ipsos Mori highlighted the security risks of employees downloading personal software and applications onto company issued tablets (73%), smartphones (62%) and notebooks (45%). Even with company issued devices, the same survey reported that 52% of respondents admitted to storing, sharing and working on work documents on their personal smartphones, tablets and notebooks.
BENEFITS Of course, BYOD has many benefits. There are plenty of studies that point to how it can boost productivity by increasing employee satisfaction and motivation. People like to work with devices they are familiar with and by its very nature, it enables anytime, anywhere working. A CITO research report maintained that workers feel they are more productive when using their own device. A Samsung sponsored study by Frost and Sullivan maintained that using personal devices for work activities saves employees 58 minutes a day, providing a 34% increase in productivity. In addition, it can lead to more flexible working and the benefits that this provides in terms of work-life balance and productivity. Furthermore, employees are more likely to refresh their devices more often than a company, so invariably, they are working with the latest technology. Lastly, it has obvious cost savings on capital equipment for companies.

typically used to steal valuable personal data from a phone, is highly recommended. The majority of security apps go beyond antivirus protection for Android and include a host of other tools from contact filtering to remote lock or wipe if the phone is lost or stolen. Some even include features that allow photos or audio recordings to be taken of the thieves or enable a contact message to be displayed on the screen if the phone has been mislaid. Installing a Virtual Private Network (VPN) adds further protection when using remote devices. Encryption of sensitive data also provides business with an added layer of protection. At the very least strong password protection should be maintained on all devices. Many smartphones have fingerprint scanners, which are seen as better protection than passwords. Some like Samsung’s new Galaxy 8 phone provide iris and facial recognition. The use of biometrics has also been extended to authenticating users based on vein recognition. As veins are internal and have a wealth of differentiating features, attempts to forge an identity are extremely difficult, thereby enabling a high level of security. If the quantity of devices or sensitivity of data requires a more robust approach, then the deployment of Mobile Device Management software, where the IT department monitors, manages and secures employees’ devices that are used in the workplace, may be the best solution. However, balancing security and privacy can be an obstacle as organisations can track and store user’s activities with most MDM solutions.
ACCESSORY PROTECTION Protection of data and devices can also be enhanced with a range of accessories. For those on the move, the Kingston DataTraveler Locker G3 drive secures personal data with hardware encryption and password protection with capacities from 8GB to 64GB. Available in standard, managed and anti-virus models, Kingston’s DataTraveler Vault Privacy 3.0 USB flash drive provides affordable business-grade security with 256-bit AES hardware-based encryption in XTS mode. It protects 100% of stored data and enforces complex password protection with minimum characteristics to prevent unauthorised access. For additional peace of mind, the drive locks down and reformats after 10 intrusion attempts.
MITIGATING RISK In reality, personal devices are often co-existing with company equipment rather than directly replacing it. Irrespective, employees want to connect to secure corporate networks and productivity gains and cost savings can only be realised if there are security measures in place. Protecting company data and preventing costly breaches are vitally important, even more so with the impending GDPR legislation. This requires the co-operation between the company and its employees to agree on a plan and procedure that mitigates the risks. Employees must be made aware of the procedures and provided with training where necessary so that they are aware of potential issues from phishing scams, downloading of certain apps, browsing questionable sites, ignoring patches and failing to update the latest versions of operating systems, and the use of public wi-fi. Employees are often unwittingly the weakest link in any security strategy and malware attacks are typically social engineered. Making sure that mobile security best practices are adhered to is vitally important. Every device: notebook, tablet and mobile will have its own vulnerabilities and may require different approaches to safeguarding important company data. Notebooks and tablets should always have anti-virus software installed to protect against malware and viruses. Smartphones are not immune either. Far from it as the Android operating system has had a history of security issues, so adding security software which provides protection from malware that is

WHAT TO EXPECT AT Of course, CES provides brands with the opportunity to launch new products or introduce prototypes, some of which never make it to market. Naturally, with an event of such significance, there is a great deal of anticipation and speculation surrounding who is going to be bringing out what. About this time of year, with just a few weeks until it goes live on January 9th , leaks start to trickle out picked up by the press, industry experts and those in the know. With more than 15 years’ experience within the service and repair network, their team of highly trained technicians offer a complete repair and refurbishment process including data cleansing and when required an environmentally friendly disposal service. All refurbished devices undergo a stringent testing programme before being resold ensuring that the device is indistinguishable from new. Stock is available for resale and distribution, from brand new multi carton stock to in house accredited refurbished devices.
HERE’S A LOOK AT WHAT YOU MIGHT EXPECT TO FIND The Consumer Electronics Show or CES as it’s more commonly known doesn’t need much of an introduction. After all, it celebrated 50 years of existence last January. What’s more it continues to go from strength to strength and generated a record number of visitors and exhibitors to Vegas: 180,000 to the event last year with more than 58,000 coming from outside of the US. All eager to find out what’s new from both global and start-up brands with products ranging from cars and robots to more conventional CE products. With more than 4,000 exhibitors, there’s plenty to see including a focus on Smart Cities, a sports zone which will highlight how technology is being used in this sector, a cybersecurity marketplace demonstrating advanced solutions like facial recognition and a Eureka park with more than 800 start-ups exhibiting, a third more than last year. The event also boasts more than 1,000 speaker opportunities from industry experts, meeting rooms and a number of hospitality events that provide networking opportunities.
Augmented Reality (AR) has already been touted as a key topic with applications in many areas including medical, educational and automotive. Equally, expect to see headsets (hopefully Windows 10 VR sets) and software heavily featured for VR. VR headsets powered by smartphones are also likely to be present. Cars are expected to be prominent again. Electric, self-driving and smart. Manufacturers like Ford, Toyota and Hyundai as well as less well-known brands like Fisker that compete with Tesla. The appearance of Emotion at CES, described as an all Electric, ultraluxury, fully autonomous sedan is expected to have a range of 400 miles with an energy density battery that can recharge in just nine minutes, has been widely reported. Nvidia is likely to feature and not for just for its high powered gaming processors but for its work with driverless cars’ software and other smart car technology development. Experts expect to also see more integration with smart speakers like Amazon Echo and digital assistants on mobile phones.

Naturally, there will be more products for the connected home. In the last issue of Future Business, we focused on the growing influence of Voice Personal Assistants, particularly Amazon’s Echo. The increasing capabilities of Alexa are driving a more compelling Smart Tech experience for consumers as support for security, comfort, convenience, safety, entertainment and energy consumption comes under Alexa’s growing umbrella of control. There will undoubtedly be a number of copycat voice products at CES but the industry is most likely to settle with one of the major players and Amazon is in pole position. Expect also to see a move to voice assistants with video screens, with Amazon again leading the way with Amazon Echo Show and FireTV integrating Smart Cameras into the Alexa experience. Also, voice assistants will become more integrated into entertainment systems. Sonos has already launched an Alexa compatible product with Google Assistant to come and select Sony Bravia TVs are now supported by Alexa as well. Expect other vendors to follow. Security is a key category in the connected home and Honeywell will be showing off their voice enabled Smart Security systems and showcasing their growing evohome and lyric product families. Honeywell is also a key developer of industrial scale machine learning and machine vision linked to AI and will be bringing those capabilities and experience to their consumer smart tech platforms. Others to look out for in the smart tech market include: Netgear with their Arlo range of wireless and AC powered security cameras and of course their home networking solutions: Nest with its Secure home alarm system and Cam IQ security cameras which feature facial recognition and Tile with their Tile Sport a rugged and waterproof blue tooth tracker or the more fashionable Tile Style. Both keep track of your most valuable items (could be useful at CES). From quirky to mainstream, products often succeed and fail in equal proportions. However, CES never fails to excite nor to interest the trade. Don’t forget Exertis has a great range of computing, mobile and smart tech products. CES always provides an abundance of new laptops, 2 in 1s and computing accessories. Dell has already provided a sneak preview of its next XPS 13 laptop, an incredibly thin 13 inch laptop that comes in alpine white and rose gold colours and provides 3 USB-C ports, and a Micro SD card slot. Acer, Asus, Lenovo and Samsung will also be showcasing their new products on their stands. Well worth a visit. Televisions are difficult to miss at CES. It would be surprising not to see all the big names present: Samsung, Sony, LG and Panasonic plus many others. More 4k OLED screens, improved picture quality and perhaps, one year on, the appearance of marketable 8K TVs. In any event High Dynamic Range (HDR) TVs are likely to have a high profile with manufacturers and content creators extolling the virtues of better colour and contrast that it provides. Whilst CES isn’t known for phones with most manufacturers either launching their flagship products at the Mobile World Conference which follow CES a month or so later, or at their own events, there will be plenty of smartphones around from lesser well-known names. However, rumours circulating in the press have suggested that the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus will be previewed at CES. The Galaxy S9 Plus, for instance, is rumoured to have more RAM and a dual-camera in addition to a bigger display. This is different from the current S8 and S8 Plus, which only differ in size. The phones are also expected to have Snapdragon 845 chipset, expandable memory, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a better location for the fingerprint sensor, according to an article from Venture Beat. Other rumours suggest Samsung will show a foldable smartphone: Galaxy X. Likewise, there is speculation that Sony might introduce a new phone. Some industry watchers have speculated that Google’s larger exhibition presence may well take in their recently launched Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones. Of course, it remains to be seen. Wearables including smart clothing are expected to feature. Drones and robots were out in force last year and there is no reason to think it will be much different in 2018.

HOW TO INCREASE THE
CUSTOMER
EXPERIENCE
WITH MPOS
With the almost ubiquitous use of smartphones and other computing devices combined with ever increasing broadband availability, consumers not only want to be able to buy but also pay for products or services as easily and quickly as possible. Whilst most retailers have developed an omnichannel strategy to capture the consumer, payment for those purchases made on site need to be flexible to ensure a positive customer experience. Mobile point of sale systems (mPOS) can meet that need by acting as payment terminals, in addition to providing other considerable benefits for the retailer by integrating the system with their backend processes for accounting or inventory. As well as replacing traditional cash registers, they can therefore provide much better control, reporting and analytics for the company whilst improving the customer experience. With retailers under constant pressure to cut costs and maintain profitability, often assistants are tied to the counter serving customers. Long queues at the check-out, out of stock items, a lack of shop assistants on the floor to help with enquiries, inadequate product selection and unclear pricing are said to be the main reasons why consumers leave a store without making a purchase. An mPOS system can help address most of these issues. By providing staff with mobile POS devices that can: take a payment anywhere in the store; reduce waiting times at the till; allow assistants to engage the customer in conversation that could lead to an upsell or cross sell opportunity and enable an out of stock item to be ordered there and then for the customer with a home delivery arranged, can only lead to a better all-round experience.
BUSINESS ASSET By enabling assistants to become more mobile around the store, the devices can become a valuable business asset as opposed to a cost by driving up revenue. Engaging the customer, wherever they are in the store, can help the decision making for the customer by offering additional knowledge or opinion about their intended purchase and then being able to immediately capture the sale. Queries over price and availability can be handled on the spot with the ability to quickly look up the item on the system. A timely response and a helping hand means there is less time for customers to change their mind. Whilst paper receipts can be provided, they can also be emailed digitally to the customer. This has two advantages. One to support green initiatives and the other to capture the customer’s e-mail address. The latter provides the opportunity to subsequently send promotions and offers to the customer, something that can be achieved through an on-line purchase but not previously in-store.
For those retailers or other establishments like mobile food outlets, mPOS also provides the opportunity to take the business off-site to anywhere that has an internet connection and still continue to trade easily. More importantly, mPOS improves security. Data and payment security are always top of mind for business owners. Card data isn’t stored on the mPOS device. mPOS systems incorporate point-topoint encryption between the retailer and the banking merchant eliminating the risk of a security breach and making it easier to comply with PCI DSS regulations. Most mPOS systems are also compatible with EMV technology. Increasingly consumers are wanting to use mobile wallets instead of taking cash or credit cards. mPOS can also accommodate payment from Android, Apple or Samsung Pay. mPOS is certainly a market that’s growing. Juniper Research forecasted that smartphone and tablet-based mobile point of sale terminals will handle 20 per cent of all retail transactions by 2021, up from around 4 per cent last year and that these systems will account for more than 1 in 3 POS terminals by 2021 driven by large retailers and SMBs. Exertis can offer the Enterprise Sled, a retail solution that securely connects with the Ingenico Link 2500 PED to quickly establish a full, out of the box, mobile point-of-sale system for businesses of any size. We also provide POS to GO an out-of-the box solution that provides all the benefits of Epos Now’s complete solution with the flexibility of a tablet. Epos Now has solutions specifically tailored for the retail and hospitality markets. Ask your Exertis account manager for details.

EXTENDING DEVICE-AS-A-SERVICE TO SMARTPHONES BENEFITS OF THE MODEL Whether a business is large or small, the as-a-Service model has much to recommend it. Perhaps, more noted in the software arena, where it has become common practice, it has also extended into the computing hardware market for desktops and notebooks. Equally the same option can be extended into the smartphone market. First, let’s look at some of the benefits of the Device-as-a-Service (DaaS) model. Firstly, it streamlines the way a company buys, deploys and manages its hardware. One of its advantages is that it can also combine hardware, software and services into one single contract, making the whole purchasing decision much simpler. In terms of costs, it moves the purchasing from a capex to an opex model. DaaS enables companies to set a monthly fee, with no upfront costs, to effectively lease the hardware based on a needs basis, providing scalabilty and flexibility. According to an IDC survey in 2016, as-aservice bundles can save approximately 25% for businesses. Equally important, it ensures the hardware is maintained, updated and repaired as necessary. The hardware can be refreshed on a regular basis but all of that responsibility is no longer with the company, enabling more efficient deployment of IT resource. It also eliminates the need for en-masse roll-outs enabling rolling, on-going migrations instead. The IDC survey referenced above also maintained that respondents estimated that managing devices took up 14% of their time. Moreover, DaaS can also contribute to greater security providing better control of inventory, updates, device location, condition and when necessary end of life disposal. DaaS can also proactively monitor devices, ensuring adherence to data security policies and the use of approved apps. Lastly, some experts point to how a DaaS model can both attract and retain employees who want to be using the latest technology.
BENEFITS ARE APPLICABLE TO SMARTPHONES As mentioned earlier, DaaS can equally be applicable to smartphones. According to GfK the average street price of SIM free mobile phones has increased by 15% over the last two years and this trend is likely to continue as there is always going to be a cost associated with having the latest technologies. The growing capabilities of top-tier handsets with fingerprint scanners, fast charging technology, increased memory, better audio, faster processing, great displays and better build quality come at a cost. The acquisition of mobile devices has generally been a model where the customer pays a lump sum upfront to purchase the device or the reseller pays the lump sum and then recovers the amount from the customer through monthly service payments. The launch of
devices like the iPhone X (RRP £999 for the 64GB variant) and Note8 (RRP £869) makes this acquisition model increasingly unattractive as businesses are unable to afford to equip their workforces with these devices in a way that isn’t damaging to their cashflow. DaaS provides the solution as it enables resellers and customers to access the latest technology but at a cost which is more affordable and doesn’t impact capital expenditure.
THE BASIC ELEMENTS ARE AS FOLLOWS: • • • • • • •
Single monthly payment over a 2 or 3 year period; Device provided; Software licences included; Initial set up or configuration; In-life management of hardware; Repair / replacement of damaged devices; End of contract management (device recovery, data wipe, disposal).
All of these items are delivered through a contract that the end customer signs subject to standard business credit checks. Once the device has been delivered, funds are released to repay the reseller improving their working capital.
BENEFITS FOR THE END CUSTOMER: • • • • •
Single monthly payment; Device management becomes outsourced freeing up company resource for other projects; Tax efficient as the monthly payments can be offset against corporation tax; No risk of being stuck with obsolete hardware that is too expensive to exchange; Compliance with data protection laws as all data is wiped from the handset using certified software at the end of the contract.
BENEFITS FOR THE RESELLER: • • • •
Handset costs are reimbursed at the start of the agreement improving working capital; Device credit risk for non-payment eliminated; Additional devices or services can be added into the agreement over the term; The Reseller can support their end customer’s device upgrade process.

FUTURE
ARE HYBRIDS/CONVERTIBLES
SET TO BECOME THE
BUSINESS COMPUTING DEVICE? HYBRIDS OFFER THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS The notebook market has certainly undergone major changes over recent years in design, size and weight. From ultra thin, featherweight devices to more thicker, heavyweight laptops and everything in between. Besides the more obvious changes to size and weight, the biggest change has perhaps been in design. The standard clamshell offering has morphed into a hybrid design that promises to provide the user with the best of both worlds: a laptop and a tablet. Hybrid systems are capable of functioning as a laptop or a tablet depending on what you want to use them for. There are two types of these products termed 2 in 1s by Intel®. One is termed as a convertible hybrid which essentially is a laptop first product which changes from a laptop to a tablet by rotating the device on hinges that bend and fold so that the screen is rotated or flipped to just expose the screen. Here you can also stand the device in a tent mode. The other is called a detachable hybrid, primarily a tablet which can dock with an accessory keyboard for laptop-like functionality. Certainly, to accommodate a physical keyboard and the peripheral ports required, a laptop first design tends to be larger and heavier than a traditional tablet.
MARKET TRENDS Whilst large screen smartphones have contributed to the decline in tablet sales amongst consumers, the diversity offered by 2 in 1s has been driving that segment’s growth according to a Forrester report in 2017. Indeed, these devices are finding a growing audience in corporations. According to IDC’s Computing Device Tracker, they were growing at 46% worldwide year-over-year at the beginning of 2017. Over the next four years, detachables are expected to grow at 21.2% CAGR, IDC said. Whilst Gartner maintained that desktops remained the most popular corporate device among business, with more than 50% still using these as their computing device in 2016, the tide has definitely turned. Over a third of workers received laptops, including convertible laptops and Gartner forecasted that convertibles would continue to increase over the next few years. Of course, the desktop PC market has been in decline for some years but the move away from the PC is much easier for most SMEs than the cash strapped public sector. Context which tracks sales through distribution has witnessed consecutive quarterly growth for business detachables throughout 2017 with Q3 showing a spectacular 49% year on year
Source: Context growth with unit sales of approximately 400,000. While the Apple iPad Pro dominates, the Microsoft Surface Pro has also witnessed higher commercial deployment and Lenovo has moved up to third place in the vendor rankings with a 15% market share. Both employees and businesses are taking advantage of the flexibility, portability and productivity provided by 2 in 1s. Whilst tablets were popular due to their size, weight and flexibility, they lacked the productivity that can be gained from a laptop. Manufacturers have since focused on providing thin, light, touch sensitive hybrids that focus on ensuring productivity isn’t lost through a lack of processing power, storage, battery life or ports. Desktop PCs have their place in certain functions in an organisation and are cheaper and longer lasting but they don’t provide the mobility and embrace the collaboration capabilities often required in today’s business. One thing is certain, technology is constantly evolving and changing the workplace. If convertibles are making in-roads today, maybe it’s the smartphone tomorrow. Exertis offers a range of 2 in 1 hybrids from its computing portfolio. For further information, contact your account manager. Sources and Acknowledgements: Context, Computerworld.
