WELCOME TO THE AUTUMN ISSUE OF FUTURE MOBILITY There has been no shortage of new launches in the mobile market since the last issue with new flagship devices from Samsung with the new Galaxy Note 9, from Sony with the Xperia XZ3, from Google with the Pixel 3, and also from Apple. There’s more still to come with the Nokia 9 soon to be released and Samsung’s Galaxy A9 to be launched in the coming weeks. It’s a changing landscape with Huawei claiming second spot from Apple in terms of global sales as noted in our news section. Of course, there are plenty of great Android phones out there to suit a range of budgets. In fact, choosing the right one for your customer can be a difficult decision. So, our evaluation scheme could be exactly what you are looking for. We take you through the process in our article on page 27. When it comes to decisions, we are all awaiting the outcome of Brexit. It has repercussions in a wide range of areas and just recently the topic of roaming has been raised. We have enjoyed free roaming in the EU for the last two years but deal or no deal, whether that continues is a moot point. Our article on page 28 looks at possible outcomes.
More and more consumers are taking to wearable devices. Whilst these are most associated with sport and fitness, there are many different types of wearables and even more use cases that can apply in the business world. We look at some of their applications in business and in industry and what this could mean for the market on page 22. If your customers are still using Windows 7 and there is plenty of evidence to suggest that many are, then now’s the time to start moving them to Windows 10. Microsoft ended mainstream support for Windows 7 on January 13th 2015 with extended support due to end on 14th January 2020. Whilst, customers can still use the product when it goes end of life, it’s a risky business as our article on page 18 points out. Don’t forget to take a look at the new product announcements and promotions in this issue as well as our regular features, especially our Hot Picks and top ten attach products that can make you more margin. Thanks for your continued support.

HUAWEI USURP APPLE IN SMARTPHONE Business SHARE
Previously, Tim has enjoyed a very successful career with Dell for more than a decade, most recently as CEO and general manager for Dell EMC UK & Ireland. Prior to that he was based in Asia Pacific responsible for growing and developing Dell business in that region.
According to IDC’s quarterly worldwide mobile phone tracker, Huawei took second spot with a record high market share of 15.8% for Q2 2018, the first quarter since Q2 2010 that Apple has not been number one or two smartphone company in terms of share. Samsung’s share was 20.9% with Apple’s at 12.1%. Overall the number of units shipped (342 million) was down by 1.8% on previous year. The combination of market saturation, increased smartphone penetration rates and climbing ASPs were factors in the decline

RUGGED CONFUSION According to a recent survey conducted by Opinion Matters, despite 88% of business buyers considering the ruggedness of their notebooks, tablets and handheld devices to be very or fairly important when considering new purchases, their understanding of these terms was somewhat mixed. Fewer than half of buyers were aware of Ingress Protection (IP) Ratings and two-thirds were unable to correctly identify that the rating was for protection against particles and liquid and the higher the rating the better the protection. Buyers were also confused by the meaning of the commonly quoted US Military Standard 810G, with more than 35% of respondents incorrectly believing it applied to battery life.

RETIREMENT AGE According to a report from telecoms regulator Ofcom, the number of voice calls made on mobile phones fell for the first time ever in 2017. However, that doesn’t mean people are necessarily talking less – just moving to different media like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. Indeed, Ofcom’s chart in figure 1 published by the BBC shows just how much mobile devices have changed the landscape and our habit. Some of the habits which include two in five adults checking their phone within five minutes of waking and a third just before falling asleep indicate how these devices are impacting daily life with 43% of the survey admitting to spending too much time online and more than a half indicating that these devices interrupt face-to-face conversations. Not just at meal times but also whilst watching TV with the vast majority, around 80%, of the younger age group (18 to 34) finding the latter perfectly acceptable. In fact, the smartphone (48%) has overtaken the TV (28%) as the most important device owned by respondents.
SONY LAUNCHES NEW FLAGSHIP PHONE AT IFA IFA isn’t normally known as a launchpad for smartphone but Sony’s new Xperia XZ3 flagship smartphone was one of the highlights. Here’s why it has been attracting so much interest: •
A stunning 6-inch 18:9 QHD+ HDR OLED display, powered by Sony’s award-winning BRAVIA® OLED TV technologies, to deliver deeper blacks, sharper images and more vibrant colours
•
Beautifully curved 3D glass design seamlessly blends the OLED display into the slim phone body for perfect hand fit
•
Side sense uses AI to cleverly predict the apps you need most and puts them in easy reach
•
Smart launch with AI ensures you never miss capturing a moment by launching the camera mode when the phone is lifted horizontally
•
19MP Motion Eye™ main camera and 13MP front camera provide unique capturing technologies, including 4K HDR Movie recording, Full HD 960FPS Super slow motion and advanced 3D Creator now with facial expressions
What is the optimised lifespan of a smartphone? With less device differentiation and higher purchase prices some organisations are extending the replacement time frame from 12 to 18 months to 24 to 36 months. According to a Tech Target article, smartphones can experience significant performance degradation with battery capacity for example running at only 35-50% of original capacity as they get older. Performance, productivity and security are reasons why an earlier retirement is preferable for business users.

FUTURE

ANDROID IS GOOD BUSINESS FOR EVERYONE The Android versus iOS has always been a hot topic. Of course, Android dominates the smartphone operating system market with more than 73 per cent market share compared to just under 25 per cent for iOS1 in Europe. Hardly surprising when you consider the number of different devices and manufacturers that use Android – nearly 1,300 brands have produced over 24,000 unique Android devices2. Whilst, there isn’t much difference in price for their flagship handsets between the two major brand adversaries (Samsung 20.9 per cent market share compared to Apple 12.1 per cent3), Android is responsible for an explosion of affordable mid-market smartphones that offer a range of good quality, feature rich devices that suit different budgets. Huawei is a great example, claiming second spot in Q2 with a 15.8 per cent share and an outstanding YOY growth of 40.9 per cent3. Choice plays an important part in the decision-making process and Android comes in all shapes and sizes with varying features that influence both the consumer and business user: battery life, look and feel, reliability, performance, storage, durability, security etc. Android as a platform scores heavily in terms of device cost and features. The latest version Android 94 delivers AI-powered tools, security enhancements, new features to promote digital well-being and support for a range of use cases. One of the great strengths of the Android operating system has been the ability to customise the handset. For business, it could be simply to have the company logo as the wallpaper or having a standard set of business apps on the home screen. With Android, it’s possible to add widgets and shortcuts and even change the entire user interface with launchers. The most widely popular apps are available for both iOS and Android and manufacturers can decide which apps to have pre-installed. However, even for basic functions users are never required to use Google software over third party apps they prefer, making it a truly open system. For developers, the Android source code is free for anyone to download, customise and distribute which creates a more innovative eco-system of apps. For companies that
require apps for specific needs, Android provides a lower, one-time, cost of entry and easier approval process to its Google Store. It even allows for alternative Android app stores other than Play Store. Apple is opposed to third-party app stores and is generally stricter about blocking certain types of apps which can provide more quality and security. New apps now tend to be available for both systems at the same time, so that’s no longer a big concern. Organising millions of apps and games isn’t an easy proposition for either platform. Of course, iOS is uniform across all devices. That often makes it the preferred choice for those who use a Mac rather than a PC as the user interface is familiar. In some ways that offers a more predictable upgrade path. Android can be slightly different on devices depending on the manufacturer. For instance, Samsung provides its Samsung Experience to create devices that are optimised for the hardware, providing even more functionality to the current stock operating system. These can often be implemented in later versions of the OS. Manufacturers can even offer a few of their own apps that offer a duplication of services found on Android, these apps can be more functional and better than the default Google apps. Mobile security is a growing concern and security updates are critical for enterprise adoption. Apple can push all of its operating system updates to its handsets at the same time whilst Android updates rely on the manufacturers. However, Google has a system in place that can remove bugs and even introduce new features just by updating Play Services. Similarly, many of the system apps that were once bundled as part of the operating system are now available in the Play Store, which means they’re maintained and updated this way. In addition, Android for Work5 offers some valuable features for business users. The ability to deploy an extensive range of policy controls on the device are extremely useful for managing employee devices in the field. Built in layers of security prevent intrusions and enhanced security features enable personal and work lives to be securely separated on one device. Content from old devices can easily be transferred to a new device. This has huge potential for deploying

IT’S TIME TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE WINDOWS 7 OPPORTUNITY Every Windows product has a lifecycle. The lifecycle begins when a product is released and ends when it’s no longer supported. There are two phases of support: mainstream support and extended support. Microsoft ended mainstream support for Windows 7 on January 13th 2015 with extended support due to end on 14th January 2020. Whilst, customers can still use the product when it goes end of life, it’s a risky business.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WINDOWS MAINSTREAM SUPPORT AND EXTENDED SUPPORT? Mainstream support and extended support define the amount of time Microsoft gives for its Windows operating systems – essentially, expiration dates. When a computer’s operating system is within the mainstream support period, it means Microsoft is responsible for that version: providing security updates for any bugs that emerge or releasing design changes. Microsoft usually ends mainstream support five years after the release of an operating system, which then pushes it into extended support. This period usually runs for another five years but with less support. Essentially it means the company stops adding new features and ends complimentary support for that version of Windows. Whilst it still provides bug fixes and patches, security updates may no longer be available. This applies to Microsoft’s business, developer and desktop
However, end of support can be a significant challenge for companies. It requires planning and investment. Updating and upgrading computers can be a time-consuming and expensive business. Existing hardware may not be able to handle the system requirements of an upgrade and of course for productivity gains, training on a new system is also required. Furthermore, prior versions of Windows, including Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 have limited support when running on new processors and chipsets from manufacturers like Intel, AMD, NVidia, and Qualcomm. A device may not be able to run prior versions of Windows if the device hardware is incompatible, lacks current drivers, or is otherwise outside the original equipment manufacturers, (OEM) support period. On the other hand, not upgrading can be more expensive. For instance, the WannaCry cyberattack, which affected parts of the NHS, was down to organisations running legacy systems. Change usually takes time and Windows 7 was certainly a popular choice of operating system. Indeed, according to NetMarketShare’s latest 2018 data, whilst the gap is slowly closing, 41.23% are still using Windows 7 – compared to the 36.58% who have moved on to the latest operating system, Windows 10. It’s estimated by Microsoft that 46 million devices worldwide still run on Windows 7 using devices 4 or more years old, so it’s a big opportunity for the channel to exploit. Indeed 55 per cent of SMBs were either slightly aware or not aware of Windows 7 EOS, according to recent reports from Microsoft. As highlighted earlier, with under 18 months to go, companies need to start preparing and planning in order to ensure a smooth transition. This might include: • • •
Identifying machines that need to be upgraded or replaced Replacing legacy systems using older operating systems and/or software with updated technology Developing a timeline and budget for upgrades and replacements

box and on most devices. In fact, the minimum hardware requirements to run Windows 10 are the same as those required for Windows 7. Most hardware drivers that functioned in Windows 8.1, Windows 8, or Windows 7 will continue to function in Windows 10. With Windows 10, companies will need to change the way they approach deploying updates. There are two release types: feature updates that add new functionality twice per year, and quality updates that provide security and reliability fixes at least once a month. Because feature updates are delivered more frequently than previous versions, changes will be in bite-sized chunks rather than all at once, thereby reducing the end user readiness time. Monthly updates in previous Windows versions were often overwhelming because of the sheer number of updates available each month. Many organisations selectively chose which updates they wanted to install and which they didn’t, and this created countless scenarios in which organisations deployed essential security updates but picked only a subset of nonsecurity fixes. • •
Implementing security controls to separate critical systems from Windows 7 machines that cannot be upgraded or removed Planning for employee training to learn the new system
WINDOWS 10 REQUIRES A DIFFERENT APPROACH The good news moving forward is that with the introduction of Windows 10, Microsoft announced a new procedure known as Windows-as-a-service replacing the traditional upgrade path for new versions. This provides for continuous upgrades and support. Businesses deploying Windows 10 will automatically remain up-to-date with the latest fixes and upgrades. Prior to Windows 10, Microsoft released new versions of Windows every few years, imposing a training burden on users because the feature revisions were often significant. That schedule also meant waiting long periods without new features which according to Microsoft is “a scenario that doesn’t work in today’s rapidly changing world, a world in which new security, management, and deployment capabilities are necessary to address challenges”. Now Windows 10 will deliver smaller feature updates two times per year, around March and September, to help address these issues. Deployment of Windows 10 is simpler than with previous versions of Windows and the process can be used to automatically preserve apps, settings and data. One of the biggest challenges for organisations when it comes to deploying a new version of Windows is compatibility testing. Whereas this was previously a concern for organisations upgrading to a new version of Windows, Windows 10 is compatible with most hardware and software capable of running on Windows 7 or later. Because of this high level of compatibility, an app testing process can be greatly simplified. Microsoft maintains that most Windows 7 compatible applications will run with Windows 10 straight out of the
018-019_FutureMobility_Issue13.indd 19
FEATURE AND QUALITY UPDATES In Windows 10, rather than receiving several updates each month and trying to figure out what the organisation needs, administrators will see one cumulative monthly update that supersedes the previous month’s update, containing both security and non-security fixes. This approach makes patching simpler and ensures that customers’ devices are more closely aligned with the testing done at Microsoft, reducing unexpected issues resulting from patching. To align with the new method of delivering feature updates and quality updates in Windows 10, Microsoft introduced the concept of servicing channels to allow customers to designate how frequently their individual devices are updated. For example, an organisation may have test devices that the IT department can update with new features as soon as possible, and then specialised devices that require a longer feature update cycle to ensure continuity. Windows 10 offers 3 servicing channels. The Windows Insider Program provides organisations with the opportunity to test and provide feedback on features that will be shipped in the next feature update. The Semi-Annual Channel provides new functionality with twice-peryear feature update releases. Organisations can choose when to deploy updates from the Semi-Annual Channel. The Long Term Servicing Channel, which is designed to be used only for specialised devices, receives new feature releases every two to three years. With Windows 7 approaching its end of life, resellers should be urging their customers to migrate to Windows 10 with the opportunity to provide higher end devices that will last longer. Exertis has a wide portfolio of PC brands, all with Windows 10 installed, from Dell, Lenovo, Fujitsu, Acer, ASUS and Toshiba. Speak to your account manager for further information. WEARABLES FAD OR FORTUNE?
should be of great interest not only to Galaxy users but Android users in general.
The market for wearable technology has been mainly driven by gadgets that are associated with fitness. Analysts Canalys1 reported that wearable band shipments grew 35 per cent year on year to 20.5 million units in Q1 2018. Smartwatches accounted for 80 per cent of wearable band revenue and 43 per cent of units shipped. Consumers have become increasingly aware of these devices in a market which has been dominated by Apple followed by Xiaomi, Fitbit, Garmin and Huawei. Of course, the Apple Watch has been popular shipping 7.3 million watches in the first half of this year. That hasn’t gone unnoticed and the recent launch of the Samsung Galaxy Watch is a serious attempt to compete in this market. The new watches (available in two sizes and different colours) promise lengthy battery life, cellular connectivity, advanced fitness features, on-board music storage and their rounded face and beautiful design make them a great fashion item. Certainly, they
However, there is more to wearables than watches and wristbands. Indeed, wearables are being developed for all parts of the body with the opportunity for new markets and applications. Fashion houses are also keen to get in on the act as consumers demand wearables such as jewellery and clothing that look good as well as performing a task. Back in 2016, i-scoop2 predicted different uses of wearables on the human body would be evident by 2026. Certainly, they are no longer just seen as consumer products because they also have an increasing presence in industry. Immersive entertainment and infotainment using headsets with VR and AR capabilities. Medical smart wear that can be applied to different parts of the body and even smart clothing that can be worn with varying uses. Wearables have always had great appeal for the healthcare industry because they can track a wide range of health metrics including: step counts, heart rate, blood pressure, sweat, movement, body posture and sleep patterns. There are also examples of sensors that are already in use that allow diabetics to continuously track their glucose levels with implants under their skin. Smart clothing such as hats and socks have also been used to monitor babies. But the next generation of lifestyle wearables could provide users with insight

into their everyday lives that could not only help them stay healthy but predict problems before they arise. For instance, by monitoring weight people can avoid the risk of diabetes – a condition that eats into a tenth of the NHS budget. Making good use of technological innovations not only helps people to manage their health and stay out of hospital; it also helps deliver seamless care and effective treatment plans. It also eases the burden on medical staff, reduces the need for hospital visits and creates better insights on patient care for doctors. The use of wearables to maintain a healthy lifestyle needs to become less of a trend and more of a routine. This requires trust in the transfer and use of data, and its security – something that the channel can help to provide. The advantage of wearables is their size, weight and convenience that enable users to perform tasks handsfree (something you can’t do with a tablet or smartphone) which increases productivity as workers can receive and review data on-the-go as well as sending data back to the company. Wearables such as smart watches, glasses, VR headsets and clothing are becoming more commonplace. For instance, construction or oil rig workers benefit from a handsfree existence with access to instructions, measurements or blueprints using smart glasses or an AR application. For emergency personnel, search and rescue teams and mobile warehouse workers, wearables can provide high-tech mobility and tracking features. Indeed, applications can apply to any

user who needs instant access to important data - sales teams, real estate agents, lawyers, rural doctors, emergency services, military personnel and more - can benefit from using wearables in the workplace. Furthermore, they can also increase health and safety by remotely managing equipment, such as machinery on an assembly line, making the workplace safer for employees. Companies are investing in apps specifically for their business needs as they see the benefits wearables can bring. The likelihood is that wearables will follow the same path as mobiles when it comes to BYOD, entering the enterprise workplace, so companies will need to take appropriate security measures. Fad or fortune? According to analyst CCS Insight3, the number of wearables sold globally, both consumer and business, is expected to grow from 96 million devices in 2017 to 185 million by 2021 with revenues equally spiralling from $10.8bn to $16.9bn. IDC also predicts similar optimism for the market4. HOW TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OUR EVALUATION SCHEME Choosing a mobile handset can be a tough choice for your customers. Of course, they can be influenced by brand advertising, by reviews from industry experts and the like. However, nothing can beat the opportunity of a try before you buy offering. Evaluation schemes are a great way for customers to really experience a product, hands-on, before deciding what suits them best. Are the features as good as they say, does the battery last that long and do the features meet the price performance your customers are looking for? Brands that offer that opportunity are more likely to end up with a sale and a happy customer.
EXERTIS OFFERS A FREE MOBILE EVALUATION SCHEME This is a service that is not readily available in the market place. The scheme enables you to provide your end customers with the facility to trial various mobile devices, tablets and some accompanying accessories. This provides a great way for your customer to fully evaluate the device and make the right purchasing decision for their company. It also provides you with an added value service that you can use to win the business. The following manufacturers support our scheme: Samsung, Sony, LG, Huawei, Nokia, STK, Alcatel, ZTE and Exspect. Naturally, devices are constantly changing but your account manager can provide a current list of those that are eligible.
WE HAVE MADE OUR EVALUATION SCHEME AS SIMPLE AND THOROUGH AS POSSIBLE As you would expect, there are some terms and conditions that are required to be met but the rules are straightforward. Once you have signed your agreement to these, you need to complete a standard request form. Both the T&Cs and request form are available from your account manager or by emailing mobileevalscheme@exertis.co.uk. Both forms can be submitted using the aforementioned emailing address.
REQUESTS ARE REVIEWED WITHIN TWO WORKING DAYS You will then receive confirmation of stock availability and if applicable an approximate time of despatch. The number of devices available for evaluation is dependent on the size of the opportunity. For example, one device is available for up to 20 potential users, two for 21 to 70 users, three for 71 to 150 and a maximum of 4 for more than 150. Trials are available for up to 4 weeks, although some flexibility on duration may be possible. On some occasions, we may not have evaluation stock available in which case, we can

either put you on a waiting list or suggest a suitable, alternative device. All devices are dispatched with covering paperwork confirming when and where the device is to be returned to, together with a box-contents checklist for your information. Once dispatched, a reseller will receive an email with an IMEI number, tracking details and the expected date of return. An email reminder is automatically sent out one week in advance of the return date. Once we have received the returned device, it is checked for any damage and completeness against the original box contents – you will be advised of any discrepancies or issues within two working days of the return. If there are no problems, the device is then wiped (reset to factory settings) before going back into live evaluation stock.
HELP US IMPROVE Following your trial, we will also ask you to complete a quick online survey so that we can gain valuable feedback from you and your customer. This will allow us to continuously improve our evaluation service and provide feedback to our relevant manufacturers. The link to the online survey will be sent by email shortly after your evaluation device has been returned.
MANX TELECOM - CARL STUBBS “The evaluation scheme has been invaluable for testing the devices prior to purchase.”
NASH MANAGEMENT CONSULTANCY LTD.- BILLY NASH “Very handy, as a developer and a company that are developing apps for multiple devices, it is very useful to have the devices to hold and physically test on, without having to spend out on potentially unwanted devices. It gives us the ability to spec out a wide range of devices which we wouldn’t be able to do otherwise.”
ABICA LTD - SCOTT BRAYNION “Evaluation trial is a great way to enhance the client’s experience as they were unsure what devices to go for and having a trial handset really helped to make up the client’s mind.”
MERSEYGRID LTD- IMRAN KHAN “Quick and simple to use.”

Among the ideas that have been floated are a bilateral agreement between Brussels and London governing roaming, separate from any free trade arrangement. However, EU commissioner Günther Oettinger, told the European Parliament that a standalone UK-EU roaming agreement would be in breach of World Trade Organisation rules3.
According to speculation in the industry and national press, there are doubts as to whether the current free roaming on mobile usage will continue post Brexit. Whilst the Brexit situation itself is no clearer, there are implications should the UK continue on its path to leaving the European Union (EU) in Spring 2019. Back in June 2017, the EU scrapped additional charges for roaming on smartphones when travelling in another EU country. Of course, this was warmly applauded particularly as there had been plenty of embarrassing stories of people returning home from holiday to face an unexpected huge bill However, it is entirely possible that Roam-Like-at-Home will become just a memory. Earlier this year, Theresa May announced that “the UK will not be part of the EU’s Digital Single Market, which will continue to develop after our withdrawal from the EU.” While the announcement doesn’t guarantee any negative impact on the UK mobile market, it could result in the removal of the legislation banning additional roaming charges in the EU, for British citizens. So that means that the European regulation that prohibits roaming charges will not automatically be part of UK law. Consequently, UK mobile operators might want to reintroduce the charges. However, any changes wouldn’t apply straightaway. All EU rules and regulations will continue to be upheld until the end of the transition period on 31 December 2020. The government’s Brexit White Paper1 says: Digital services trade between the UK and the EU will continue to be important, as both try to capitalise on the growth of digital technologies globally. While the UK will not be a part of the EU’s Digital Single Market, the UK wants to develop an ambitious policy on digital trade with the EU, as well as globally. The UK therefore proposes a digital relationship that covers: a. digital trade and e-commerce; b. telecommunications and digital infrastructure; c. digital technology; and d. broadcasting.
Importantly, the mobile operators have been quick to dispel rumours about changing their current policy on roaming as widely reported in the BBC, Computer Weekly and TechRadar4 amongst others. Three has committed to maintain the availability of roaming in the EU at no additional cost following Brexit saying, “We’re passionate about improving our customers’ experience when travelling abroad, so they can stay connected and use their phones just as they do at home.” Vodafone said it was too soon to assess the implications of Brexit on roaming regulation, but added it expected competition to continue to drive good value for customers and that it currently had no plans to change its roaming charges. EE also said it had no plans to introduce charging and called on the government “to put consumers at the top of their agenda in the Brexit negotiations to help ensure that UK operators can continue to offer low prices to our customers”. O2 said: “We currently have no plans to change our roaming services across Europe. We’re engaged with the government with regards to what may happen once the UK officially leaves the EU.” Of course, much will depend on the final agreement with the EU on Brexit and with no precedent for any country to have ever left the EU before, the speculation will remain. The Paper proposes a “digital relationship” but there is no specific mention of mobile roaming: The UK and the EU have a joint history of regulatory innovation in telecommunications in areas such as competition reform and net neutrality. This shared regulatory vision has promoted consumer benefits, competition and investment. The UK therefore proposes joint commitments to an open and liberalised electronic communications sector allowing for fair, equal and competitive access for UK and EU businesses to public telecoms services and networks. To avoid the possibility of the return of roaming charges, the government will need to strike a special deal with the EU after Brexit. The situation could be equally difficult if there is a no-deal Brexit. Indeed, Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab was widely reported as saying that the government couldn’t give a “cast iron guarantee” that roaming charges would not resurface. Instead he maintained the government would put a limit on the charges should they be reintroduced. An anti-Brexit Best for Britain group has calculated that the financial hit for business travellers based on the prices returning to the same level as before roaming charges were abolished would cost anything between £195 to £778 per month according to a report in the Independent newspaper2. According to a committee of MPs, it would be very difficult for mobile operators not to reimpose fees as their operating costs would be considerably higher.
