P
ainting the Walk evolved during 2020 while walking, drawing and painting in two different environments. Cradle Mountain in Tasmania while I was Artist-in-Residence (AIR) at the Wilderness Gallery and Lake Cathie near Port Macquarie where I spent several months. It is through walking that I often find inspiration for my work, a reconnaissance of sorts; preliminary observations anchor a need to represent something of the places I traverse whether though en plein air painting, drawing on site or studio work. Watercolour, watercolour pencils and acrylics are my favoured mediums due to their versatility. I often work in watercolour when walking and drawing in the field. I return to a site with acrylics and my easel when working en plein air where the terrain permits. Some of the studio work I make is based on memories of walks I have taken. Other work is about the immersion and the sensations of walking in a particular place. I have recently taken up a studio at M16 Art Space in Canberra where I will be continuing my exploration of natural places as experiences, so lots of field work as well as studio work will continue.

ynne Flemons has held solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions in Australia and in Europe. She is a Fellow of Ballinglen Art Foundation, Co Mayo, Ireland, and has been AIR at Serlachius Museum in Finland, among others. Her work is held in corporate and private collections in Australia and Europe.
