The Kotor Region was inscribed on the World Heritage List among the first 60 sites, back in 1979. At the time of inscription of the Region on the World Heritage List, there had been six criteria defined, of which the property had to meet at least one in order to be accepted as a part of the World Heritage3. The Region of Kotor met four criteria on the basis of which it became a property of importance for humanity. The Kotor Region is recognized as a World Heritage site due to its outstanding universal value, which is reflected in “the quality of the architecture in its fortified and open cities, settlements, palaces and monastic ensembles, and their harmonious integration to the cultivated terraced landscape on the slopes of high rocky hills”4.
