Ashley McDonald Ashley McDonald, Chief Meteorologist at CBS 8, traces her career roots to space camp nearly 20 years ago. As a student, I was introduced to the science of meteorology. I returned home from that trip anxious to tell my parents I was going to be a Meteorologist when I grew up. That ambition carried me into college where I majored in Aerospace Engineering at Auburn University. In between graduation from Auburn and my first day as a graduate student, I spent the summer learning the art of broadcast meteorology as an intern in Lincoln, Nebraska. I finished graduate school at Mississippi State with a Masters in Geosciences, with a concentration in Meteorology. In addition to a full time academics load, I was the research assistant to the State of Mississippi’s Climatologist and worked as the weekend Meteorologist at WTOK in Meridian, Mississippi. I landed my first job right here in Montgomery at CBS 8. I worked as both the weekend and morning meteorologist. The phone rang, and the call took me to Atlanta for a year to be a meteorologist for WXIA 11Alive News. After only a year, God had different plans and brought me back to Montgomery to fill the role of Chief Meteorologist. Along the road I had to make big moves, face challenges, and ultimately align myself with people in my field who are smarter than I am. After all, that is what life is about.
