CONTRIBUTING WRITER: Mayor Robert E. Hoog City of Cape Canaveral Residents:

As we rejoice that 2020 has finally come to an end, we are reminded that the COVID-19 pandemic endures. 2021 brings an increasingly urgent and fresh hope that the global health crisis will come to an end. We remind residents and visitors to stay vigilant; as we are in what may be the worst part of it now, but the vaccination process is on the horizon.

As false (and arguably dangerous) information about COVID-19 vaccines begin to proliferate through our phones, feeds and screens - please ensure you rely on dependable, official sources such as:

• Department of Defense Operation Warp Speed: www.defense.gov/Explore/Spotlight/Coronavirus/Operation-Warp-Speed/

• Center for Disease Control: www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/index.html

• Florida Department of Health: www.floridahealth.gov/programs-and-services/immunization/index.html

This edition contains an important, up-to-date article on the vaccination process and expectations. The City will continue to provide updates about the ongoing efforts to distribute a COVID-19 vaccine as more developments occur. Updates can be found on our social media feeds or on our website: cityofcapecanaveral.org/coronavirus/

A warm welcome back to our snowbird residents and I hope to see you around town soon! A few last things to note: community events will hopefully be returning as soon as possible, please use the recreation facilities as much as possible and support our local small businesses in this trying times. Best wishes for a healthy and happy beginning to the New Year!

Mayor Hoog
