In St. Petersburg more and more important events are held to expand business opportunities, promote international cooperation and facilitate the development of economic sectors. The Europe+Asia Event Forum taking place in the Northern capital of Russia is an effective communication platform for building a professional dialogue of the business community in the events industry. This event offers participants the opportunity to establish international contacts, and share experience and new ideas. The Europe+Asia Event Forum is held with the support and participation of the international associations UFI and ICCA, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation and the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs.
First Europe+Asia Event Forum was held in January 2012. The main players in the market showed a keen interest in this event, and the forum was a good starting point for the development of events industry in Russia. The Europe+Asia Event Forum in 2013 was attended by more than 300 professionals from 27 countries and 23 Russian regions. In 2013, an international status of the event was consolidated – the official partner was the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA). The Forum was highly appreciated by representatives of international associa-
tions ICCA and UFI, as well as heads of exhibition and meetings industry companies in the UK, Germany, India, Sweden, Finland, Poland and other countries. Regional economies grow faster, and market competition intensifies. Therefore, we need new effective methods to promote products and technology. Modern marketing means keeping a pro-active attitude, but not playing waiting games. World Trade Centres have the necessary infrastructure and resources to offer new opportunities for cooperation to the business community. SERGUEI TROFIMOV, President, World Trade Centre St. Petersburg (Russia, St. Petersburg)
World Trade Centres have the infrastructure and resources to open up new opportunities for business co-operation. And with WTC, we need to develop real tools to increase the investment attractiveness and competitiveness of Russian small and medium-sized businesses. This is important not only for the region but for the country as a whole. VLADIMIR KATENEV, President, The Saint-Petersburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Russia, St. Petersburg)
After Russia’s WTO accession, entrepreneurs now have ample opportunities for co-operation. But there’s not enough international trade specialists in the Russian market. Practical help to business may, in particular, be given with a new project of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation and the World Trade Centre Moscow – «Russia in the WTO». In addition, Russian entrepreneurs would benefit from a modern B2B platform. VLADIMIR SALAMATOV, General Director, WTC Moscow (Russia, Moscow)

Participants noted the influence of Russia’s entry into the WTO, and estimated market prospects for the near future. Experts noted encouraging trends in the industry, thanks to which we can predict its further sustainable growth. According to the experts, in terms of key indicators, the industry in Russia has returned to pre-crisis level: For a year, more than 1,060 exhibitions are held in the RF regions, with total exhibition space of more than 2 million sq m. 140 thousand companies take part in the events as exhibitors, and more that 8,000,000 people attend the exhibitions.

Patric Sjöberg (International Exhibition Centre Stockholmsmässan, Sweden) spoke of marketing of regions through the example of Sweden. The administration of the Plenipotentiary of the President of Russian Federation in the Northwestern Federal District pays constant attention to interaction of different business structures. For us, the work of successful operators in the exhibition and convention market is very important. Thanks to a strategic partnership in the Northwest region, we intend to join forces for the economic development of the Northwestern Federal District of Russia. And we will work to provide state support of exhibition and congress events. SERGEY ZIMIN, Deputy Plenipotentiary of the President of Russian Federation in the Northwestern Federal District (Russia, St. Petersburg)
Russia’s accession to the WTO is necessary for sustainable development of trade and economic relations. Anyone who wants to be successful should understand what are the trends of the market, what technologies are used today and how competitors operate. We have a great need for information sharing and discussions, as after Russia’s accession to the World Trade Organisation we are entering the global economy. According to the WTO rules, trade fair and exhibition industry can be provided necessary financial support. And I believe that the government, which monitors the latest trends closely will provide this support to the exhibition and meetings industry. EUROPE+ASIA EVENT FORUM Holding congress and exhibition events is a real impact on the development of the social and economic space in the region – and this must be explained to the government and the business community. The Europe+Asia Event Forum makes it possible to discuss the political and economic changes in the events industry market taking place against the background of Russia’s accession to the WTO. This event in St. Petersburg opens up new opportunities for the development of the events industry. SERGUEI TROFIMOV, President, RESTEC Group (Russia, St. Petersburg)
Significance of the Europe+Asia Event Forum is particularly important because the industry is currently in the process of forming a new model of economic regulation. The Europe+Asia Event Forum has been aimed at a comprehensive discussion of pressing issues of exhibition and meetings industry, business tourism, and destination marketing. The Forum showed a profound interest on the part of regions of Russia, attracted foreign experts, proved its efficiency, opened up new opportunities for commercial intercourse and had a positive impact on the development of the industry market. IGOR KOROTIN, Head of the Exhibitions and Fairs Department of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation (Russia, Moscow)

15 To ensure successful development of the events industry we need to find new ways and means to promote the services. At the events, it is necessary to use technological innovations – social networks, electronic databases, special mobile applications. The exhibitions and meetings must be efficient and modern and must meet market requirements in terms of quality and cost. JANOS BARABAS, CEO, Hungexpo Co Ltd; Vice-President, UFI (Hungary)
To create a healthsome environment and hold congress and exhibition events, we need to develop infrastructure, update venues, repair and build new facilities, and monitor the pricing. Exhibition and meetings industry have a positive effect on business, but also generate cash flow and enriche other industries. Three most effective ways to enter emerging markets: M&A, organic growth, partnership – which is the best?
In view of the recent trends towards globalisation and the desire of leading market players to reach the international scale, the desire of many international companies to strengthen their positions in emerging markets is especially palpable. At the session, the challenges of business expansion and development of new markets were discussed. Speakers were looking for answers to the question, «What is the secret of successful entry
into emerging markets and what is best to place stakes on?» The session was presented by Senior Advisor and Board Member of easyFairs Håkan Gershagen (Belgium). The discussion was attended by: Stephen Brooks (Mack Brooks Exhibitions, United Kingdom), Simon Foster (UBM Live, United Kingdom) and Edward Strachan (Primexpo Ltd., ITE Group, United Kingdom).

We analyse the market extensively, and hold events. In this area, we work together with RESTEC Group. In a partnership there are few points that we need to know. In particular, adaptation of brand to local conditions is necessary. We have to understand that we come to a country with a different structure, so we need a partnership. We want to enter the local business smoothly and become a partner that is trusted. SIMON FOSTER, CEO, UBM Live (United Kingdom)
The most important thing is to have a good relationship with the local fairgrounds. When we tried to enter the market, applying European business standards, ill luck pursued us. At that time, colleagues told me that we needed a local office. And from the very first minute, it was obvious that it worked. And if you decide to explore another market, make sure you have a nice office. This is very important. EDWARD STRACHAN, Director of International Development Department, Primexpo Ltd.; Board Member, ITE Group (United Kingdom)
Some time ago, we set a goal for the company – to double the profit. The company is now exploring the emerging markets, and we realize that trust is our primary strength. We are looking for best world’s places for exhibitions, we think globally. In Russia, we are working with RESTEC Group and trust experts who know the local market better than us. Mega-events: bright future or failed expectations
Participants of the session shared their experience of significant international events and tried to answer the question: «Do the international activities help to improve image of a city and how well is the events industry in different cities and countries developed?» Journalist and RBC TV presenter Igor Vittel (Moscow, Russia) was a moderator. Olympic Games, World Championships, APEC summits, highest-level meetings, the EXPO World’s fairs...
All these events require a specific approach to the organisation, but for any country it is a great honour to hold them. But what will stay behind the scenes? What is the result regions, event organisers and the country as a whole will obtain? Are the costs justifiable and how to use the new infrastructure? This was discussed in the session by Kevin Austin (The Greater London Authority, United Kingdom), Anna Gorska (Gdansk Convention Bureau, ICCA Central European Chapter, Poland), John Heeley (Best Destination Marketing, United Kingdom) and Vera Ionova (World Trade Centre, Russia, Moscow).

Our task was to transform London for the grand sporting event. We wanted to show a friendly face of London. We managed to create bright memorable events: various installation and live concerts were arranged. Such events like the Olympics undoubtedly improve the city and its surroundings. The event made it possible for us to show London to the world, as well as increase the level of service in the ďŹ eld of tourism. KEVIN AUSTIN, Head of Project London 2012, The Greater London Authority (United Kingdom)
Poland and Ukraine held the UEFA European Football Championship. First of all, we built a stadium and roads, and provided the airport with new terminals. In addition, we developed a new exhibition centre to run congresses and take up to two thousand participants of business meetings. Now the stadium has been expanded and transformed into a business centre; the sports complex has become a venue for concerts and various exhibitions. ANNA GORSKA, Chairperson of the ICCA Central European Chapter and Head of Gdansk Convention Bureau (Poland)
In Russia, we have not formulated the rules of the game yet. We have only a few congress bureaus which would help to promote and get a feel for the market. But it should be noted that the industry is evolving, and we are trying to combine our eorts and expertise. At this point it is necessary to keep statistics for venues, regions and cities in order to have an idea about the actual state of things in the convention and exhibition industry. Event tourism and business travel are most promising areas. It is in these segments where the greatest economic effect is seen. Business travel in the Russian Federation has an impetus for development: new venues are developed, various major international events are being held – the Olympic Games in Sochi, the Universiade in Kazan, the Expo-2020 in Yekaterinburg. Event tourism and business travel are developing. SERGEY KORNEYEV, Vice-President, Russian Union of Travel Industry; Director of Department in the Ministry of Culture of Russian Federation (Russia, Moscow)
In 2012, the turnover of the business travel industry was more than $2 trillion. Asia and America are the biggest players in the market. Europe is now experiencing some perturbations in the economy and this impacts the business travel industry. At the same time, the meetings industry market in Russia is still attractive for foreign companies. WINFRIED BARCZAITIS, Strategic Consultant, Associations of Corporate Travel Executives (Germany)
According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, the share of tourism in Russia will rise from 25.6% to 69.6% by 2022. Russia’s accession to the WTO will have a positive impact on business, correct the image of the country significantly and have a good impact on tourist flows. Russia should take all measures to support the development of infrastructure and business of operators, in which case we will create favourable competitive conditions in the country. Every year we implement about 250-270 exhibitions, including about 40 in Russia. As international exhibition organisers, German operators in Russia play a huge role – in fact, any large exhibition is organised at least in part by German companies. Some of them are very important for the economy of the Russian Federation. In recent years, the number of exhibitions in Russia has increased from 20 to 40 events per year. NATALJA WINGES, Manager for Eastern and Central Europe, AUMA (Germany)
St. Petersburg is attractive for investment. It is an important partner for international trade, including in Germany. Messe Düsseldorf works a lot with St. Petersburg. We hope that our partners will contribute to the promotion of new significant events such as the FIFA World Cup, the Olympics, and this will be helpful for Russia’s integration into the global economy. ERHARD WIENKAMP, Department Director, Messe Düsseldorf GmbH (Germany)
Industry-specific exhibitions help to get more opportunities for business expansion. In Russia, we hold events in Moscow, but thanks to the agreement signed with the RESTEC Group now we are entering the St. Petersburg market. I believe that the Russian market has enormous potential and our company is interested in developing business in regions. In exhibition and meetings industry the idea is important initially. For example, there might be funds and exhibition space available, and mutual understanding between business and government be reached, but there is no idea to promote. This is, in my view, the fundamental problem that we face. We need a bright image of Saint Petersburg, which would draw business to the region. And the comprehensive program of promotion of the city we see as strategic program. SERGEY MARKOV Deputy Chairman, Committee for External Relations St. Petersburg City Administration (Russia, St. Petersburg)
Irkutsk is situated at a main transport route that connects Europe and the Far East. This is why the city can become a centre of business communication to link Europe and Asia. To do this, the city has all necessary infrastructure. Business travel is of strategic importance for Irkutsk: if more than 25 events are held each year, the revenues in the industry will be doubled. ALEKSEY ALMUKHAMEDOV, Deputy Mayor of Irkutsk, Chairman of the Committee for Economics of the Irkutsk City Administration (Russia, Irkutsk)
Convention tourism aects the integrated development of the region. This area will help to smooth out the seasonality in St. Petersburg. The most prominent result can be achieved using a public-private partnership. There are indexes of territory attractiveness, according to which the city has a high position in the market. Education in the trade fair business. Best practice examples from Germany
At the moment the expo-business professionals comprehend the science of exhibitions organisation exclusively by trials and errors. Academic education stays far behind the industry development. Not everybody trusts the existing educational institutions preparing expo-industry professionals in Russia. Many people prefer to train the beginners at the job place and not to distract the staff from the performance of their daily duties by trainings. Those who still support the existing Russian educational school in the sphere of exhibitions, emphasize the necessity to supplement it with practical experience. In their opinion large exhibition organisations should be in close
contact with high schools and could accept students for probation works and thus prepare a staff reserve for their companies. At the session, representatives of the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA) gave an overview of the current situation of the education and further education system for the exhibition industry in Germany. Peter Neven (AUMA, Germany) was a moderator of the meeting. Bettina Rosenbach (AUMA) made a presentation of ÂŤEducation and further training in the exhibition and events industry in GermanyÂť.

An event manager must be a skilled specialist, and in its knowledge it should rely on the academic basis. After high school, young people are not always ready for a highly specialised professional education, so a special programme was developed. Upon completion of training and successful examination at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and three years of work in this sector, students can receive additional training. At this stage, young professionals improve their skills, the level of assessment, and planning activities. Young people get a deeper knowledge of economics, accounting, marketing, law, business and corporate culture. Excellence can only be achieved through the practice. Therefore, AUMA students must demonstrate their ability to control all business processes related to the organisation of events. Today, the programme has proven to be eective not only in Germany but also abroad. BETTINA ROSENBACH, Manager for Education and Further Training, AUMA (Germany)
If you are an experienced organiser, you have to know your client. If you need to convince the company to participate in the fair, you have to be a high-skilled seller. You have to explain and assure that you have an arsenal of arguments that you can provide in order to have a good result. Events industry experts must think both as organisers and participants. You need to understand what this process is composed of. It is important to explain to the client how best to present the company at the event, regardless of whether it is a major exhibition or a local event. PETER NEVEN, Managing Director, AUMA (Germany)

Modern technologies for events: market potential and new opportunities
The results of research published by Market Media Research show that the market for virtual conferences and exhibitions has more than doubled over the past two years. According to the forecasts of some experts, based on the increase in the number of Internet users, by 2015 traditional events will be almost completely replaced by virtual technologies. During the discussion, speakers were trying to answer the question: «Will the development of Internet technologies have an impact on events industry?», and also: «How useful is the opportunity to attend events online?»
CEO of UBM Live Simon Foster (United Kingdom) was a moderator of the panel discussion. A presentation on hybrid events and features of their use was delivered in video conferencing format by Ruud Janssen (TNOC, Switzerland). Presentations were also delivered by Mikhail Peregudov (Webinar-Comdi, St. Petersburg, Russia) and Yevgeniy Fedulov (Media Group RESTEC MEDIA, Russia, St. Petersburg).

Conferences is not a platform for advertising and presenting products, but environment in which people can communicate. This is why virtual events are very important. The use of different media gives an opportunity to expand scope of the event, its marketing campaign, and information about the brand, and to engage participants in a live conversation. You can imagine what happened during an event even after it is finished. SIMON FOSTER, CEO, UBM Live (United Kingdom)
Since 2003, there has been a steady increase in the number of Internet users. Due to customer demand we can create local communities, and to use them to hold and support events. Internet portals are places for professionals to meet. It is for this reason that RESTEC Group developed the industry portals JUNWEX and Forest Club, as well as the new project Event LIVE – a social network for the meetings industry. YEVGENIY FEDULOV, Head of Internet Marketing Department, Media Group RESTEC MEDIA (Russia, St. Petersburg)
A hybrid event combines personal attendance and online attendance of participants, which may attend the event, while they are in a different place. Today it is a developing type of event. This format requires a very careful planning. It is important to think out everything: location of video cameras, quality of sound, and work of operators and spokespersons. But, of course, the benefits of hybrid events are clear and this is the future of the meetings industry. RUUD JANSSEN, CMM, CEO of TNOC (Switzerland)

The St. Petersburg City Administration supports exhibition and meetings industry, considering them to be a promising trend to increase the attractiveness of the region, strengthen cooperation and grow investment. It is important to be able to present ourselves and to arouse partners’ interest. The exhibition and meetings industry provides an opportunity to develop new contacts and establish long-term business relationship. ALEXANDER PROKHORENKO, Chairman, St. Petersburg Committee for External Relations (Russia, St. Petersburg)
Exhibition and meetings industry contribute to the development of the economy and attract investment. Potentials and attractiveness of Moscow and Saint Petersburg are highly appreciated by international experts. To hold the largest events, cities should improve the physical infrastructure of exhibition centres, and boost the level of service. EVGENIY ROMASKEVICH, Deputy General Director for Exhibition Events, All-Russian Exhibition Centre (Russia, Moscow)
St. Petersburg has a great geopolitical importance for Russia. It is a scientific and industrial, transportation and cultural centre. That is why exhibition and meetings industry is particularly significant for the region. More than 200 exhibitions and 600 events are held in St. Petersburg each year. Nearly 90 percent of those are highly specialised events, others are aimed at a wider audience. IGOR KIRSANOV, General Director, RESTEC Exhibition Company (Russia, St. Petersburg)

Education and certification in the meetings industry
At the session, the issues related to the capacity of vocational education in the meetings industry were discussed. The panellists described the specifics of the market and discussed the problems of training personnel for the industry. Speakers answered to the question, «Do degrees and staff ranks guarantee that companies will provide high quality services?» The session was presented by Senior Lecturer of University of Greenwich Rob Davidson (United Kingdom).
Julia Sakharova (HeadHunter Group, Russia, St. Petersburg), Elena Frolova (Higher School of Economics and Management of the Ural Federal University, Russia, Yekaterinburg), Galina Ivanova (Centre for Testing and Certification St. Petersburg, Russia, St. Petersburg), Nikolay Popov (Baltic Academy of Tourism And Business, Russia, St. Petersburg), Elena Vasilyeva (St. Petersburg State University of Telecommunications, Russia, St. Petersburg) took part in the discussion.

The St. Petersburg branch of HeadHunter analysed curricula vitae of experts and employment vacancies in exhibition and convention companies. It was found that brand awareness is important for managers when they choose a job. Participation in major, well-known and interesting projects is equally important for applicants. The salary level oered by employers corresponds to applicant expectations. JULIA SAKHAROVA, Director, St. Petersburg branch of HeadHunter Group (Russia, St. Petersburg)
At present, the region is developing exhibition and meetings industry infrastructure, but the problem of training personnel for the events industry remains unsolved. In Yekaterinburg, the system of training professionals in the industry has been formulated. The university developed a training course and a new specialisation. ELENA FROLOVA, Professor, Higher School of Economics and Management of the Ural Federal University (Russia, Yekaterinburg)
Further education courses for business travel experts have been organised under the auspices of the St. Petersburg State University of Telecommunications. For the formation of the courses, we paid attention to market demands, interviewed representatives of companies and found that basic knowledge of management is not enough for experts, as they need to master law and Internet marketing. PANEL DISCUSSION January 25
Venue ownership and venue management – is it the same thing? The current state of infrastructure in Russia and the CIS
Interest of business event management professional and venue owners are frequently diametrically opposed. However there are many companies that are venue owners and event organisers rolled into one in the events industry market. Panellists were looking for answers to the question, «How to effectively organise the activities of the company which is a venue owner and an event organiser rolled into one?» Deputy General Director for Exhibition Activities of State Joint-Stock Company All-Russian Exhibition Centre Evgeny Romaskevich (Russia, Moscow) and Managing Director of the Finnish Fair Corporation
Christer Haglund (Finland) played the role of moderators at the meeting. Exhibition centres, their opportunities and projects were presented by Sergey Selivanov (JSC All-Russian Exhibition Centre, Russia, Moscow), Christer Haglund (the Finnish Fair Corporation, Finland), Sergey Alexeev (JSC ExpoForum, RUEF, Russia, St. Petersburg), Mikhail Davydov (Exhibition Centre Permskaya Yarmarka, Russia, Perm). Presentation of «Exhibition complex as an investment project. Venue management practice» was delivered by Maxim Chereshnev (International Exhibition Complex Novosibirsk Expocentre, Russia, Novosibirsk).

When running an exhibition and meetings business, you should take into account the fact that competition in the market will increase in future. Also, you should think: can you stay the course without a good programme for development? There is always a risk of losing large customers – that’s the way business works. Therefore, you should always think about investments and how to use them, and carry out active sales. CHRISTER HAGLUND, Managing Director, Finnish Fair Corporation (Finland)
To develop exhibition venue, we should develop our own exhibition programmes and interact with event organisers and guest exhibitions, for building the most effective management model. We plan to develop service provision and establish efficient international cooperation. SERGEY SELIVANOV, Deputy Head of the Exhibition and Congress Department, SJSC All-Russian Exhibition Centre (Russia, Moscow)
Currently, newsworthy events gain advantages in the exhibition and meeting market, and the venue management is dependent on tenants. Perm Expo runs about 25 exhibitions each year. Most of these are accompanied by convention programmes. We believe that in the regions, the exhibition format B2B is most promising. MIKHAIL DAVYDOV, First Deputy Managing Director, Exhibition Centre Permskaya Yarmarka (Russia, Perm)

SESSION January 25
Events industry statistics: trust or disorientation?
Complete and objective collection of data is an important condition for the development of the events industry market. Thanks to the initiative of market participants and the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs, currently a relatively complete industry statistics is available. Participants of the session recognised the need for exhibition audit, and counting the area occupied and the number of exhibitors and visitors. Head of the Exhibitions and Fairs Department of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian
Federation Igor Korotin (Russia, Moscow) was a moderator of the session. Presentations on the topic of the session were made by Peter Neven (AUMA, Germany), Liudmila Smorodova (RUEF, Russia, Nizhny Novgorod), Olga Mugatina (R&C Market Research Company, Russia, St. Petersburg), Andrej Gross (Deutsche Messe AG, Germany), Vladimir Ovcharek (Exhibition Federation of Ukraine), and John Heeley (Best Destination Marketing, United Kingdom).

An exhibition should be a convenient and a useful marketing tool. When market players make decisions about investments, it is important to know the statistics. This is why AUMA does the necessary research. As part of the Association, a special auditing oďŹƒce operates to provide statistical information for the press and pr-agencies. The information is available in four languages. PETER NEVEN, Managing Director, Association of the German Trade Fair Industry AUMA (Germany)
I believe that statistics is very important, but we need to understand the content of the product and use it properly. Exhibitions which are opened in Germany get audited. The main indicators of the event are data on the number of exhibitors and visitors. It is necessary to report the information correctly, to analyse performance properly and to provide transparent data only. ANDREJ GROSS, Director of Governmental Aairs, Deutsche Messe AG (Germany)
In Europe, the statistics on events is collected by convention bureaus. Experts measure the number of days and nights spent by delegates at the event, as well as the costs incurred by them. Statistics is particularly important for companies that want to track the return on investment. It is necessary to correlate all the indicators that can be demonstrated to politicians, economists and industry experts. JOHN HEELEY, Director, Best Destination Marketing (United Kingdom)

MASTER CLASS January 25
Social Media and mobile apps: usage recipes
During the interactive master-class, mobile applications and social networks which have been actively utilised in the exhibition and meetings industry were demonstrated. Chairperson of the ICCA Central European Chapter and Head of Gdansk Convention Bureau Anna Gorska (Poland) was a master-class moderator. The presentation of «Revolution of mobile applications for conferences: the extra service today – the main component of digital events tomorrow» was presented by Anna Barysheva (Omyconf!, Russia, Moscow).
The presentation of «Mobile exhibition catalogue. What? Where? When?» was delivered by Svetlana Amirkhanyan (SV Softlab!, Russia, Moscow). Vadim Korzhov (ExpoGlobus, Germany) spoke of the ecosystem of mobile services for events. Anna Spirina (Media Group RESTEC MEDIA, Russia, St. Petersburg) and Tatyana Sotnikova (Event LIVE, Russia, St. Petersburg) presented a social network for meetings industry professionals.
EUROPE+ASIA EVENT FORUM
39
A survey taken among participants and organisers of business events found that 53% of respondents consider it necessary to have mobile access to the programme and the content of the conference. However, the participants are not yet ready to use mobile applications at trade shows and conferences. So one of the tasks for event organisers would be to tell how the new technologies can be used. ANNA BARYSHEVA, Partnership Manager, Omyconf! (Russia, Moscow)
A web page of an exhibition or a congress is a picture of the event; try not to prettify it, but provide more useful information. The words like ‘registration’, ‘online catalogue of exhibitors’, ‘pavilion plans’, ‘exhibition opening hours’, ‘participation fee’ should be highlighted so that your partner could found them easily. Also remember that people do not read long texts and train your employees working in social networks. VADIM KORZHOV, General Manager, ExpoGlobus (Germany)
The Event LIVE social network was developed specifically for meetings industry experts and professionals. In Russia, the number of Internet users is growing rapidly; especially those Internet users who prefer getting information from colleagues, friends and companies. In 2014, the Russian Internet audience will increase to 80 million people. That is why we decided that an industry social network for the meetings industry is so necessary and important. ANNA SPIRINA, Head of Promotion Department, Media Group RESTEC MEDIA (Russia, Moscow)

Exhibition and meetings industry as a tool to support and manage the social and economic development of the region / country
During the session, experts discussed the eect of exhibitions and meetings on the economic development of regions and the country as a whole. Speakers shared their experience of private-public partnership, and the prospects for development of the events industry in Russia and Asia. The participants discussed the exhibition and meetings cluster as an innovative format of events industry development.
President of RESTEC Group Serguei Trofimov (Russia, St. Petersburg) was a moderator of the session. Assessment of the situation in the events industry market was presented by: Mikhail Bondarenko (Trade Representative of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Korea, Russia), Supawan Teerarat (Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, Thailand), Galina Karpova (St. Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance, Russia, St. Petersburg), Lev Semenov (Kazanskaya Yarmarka, Russia, Kazan).

During the meetings with the Governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko, we discussed the development of the events industry and the need to establish the exhibition and meetings cluster. A special exhibition and meetings department has been established within the St. Petersburg Committee for Tourism. Now we should take care of training, safety of the events, and develop a system to work with exhibitors. SERGUEI TROFIMOV, President, RESTEC Group (Russia, St. Petersburg)
Exhibitions is a platform for development of the regional economy and modern infrastructure. Numerous conventions, conferences and exhibitions for manufacturing industry, energy sector, education, culture and tourism are held in Thailand. The exhibition activities are largely supported by government agencies, and event organisers can also count on capital assistance. SUPAWAN TEERARAT, Director of Exhibition Department, Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Thailand)
Exhibition and meetings industries aect the economy and development of infrastructure, logistics, urban development, and promote foreign economic relations. Unfortunately, there is a lack of information about the opportunities the events industry can provide. Privatepublic partnership will help to implement a more eective promotion of projects and services of the industry. EVENT TALENTS – the contest for young events industry professionals
In the framework of the Europe+Asia Event Forum, on January 25, 2013, the contest for young professionals of the events industry EVENT TALENTS «The future of the events industry as viewed by the young professionals» was held. The basic idea of the competition was to give the floor to young professionals who voice their own views on the future of the events industry, express their opinions on its potentials, prospects and growth strategies, and make predictions of further changes in the events market.
Contestants presented their ideas in the form of a presentation on «The future of the events industry in Russia up to 2020». The presentations were delivered in PechaKucha format. Communication agency MediaBuzz, the PechaKucha Curator in St. Petersburg, presented this format to events industry professionals. In February 2013, 600 cities participating in the global movement PechaKucha that had been started in Japan celebrated its 10th anniversary. The feature of PechaKucha is that presenter can show 20 slides for 20 seconds each. Thus, any PechaKucha presentation lasts 6 minutes and 40 seconds, and presenter must

speak concisely and succinctly. After this presentation, the audience can ask questions without limitation in time. During the final session of the Europe+Asia Event Forum, PechaKucha presentations were delivered by the finalists of the Event Talents contest: Alexander Mikhailov, Tatyana Sotnikova, Daria Yakovleva, Charlotte and Karen Gershagen. The jury consisted of international industry experts, including: Anna Gorska, Chairperson, ICCA Central European Chapter, CEO, Gdansk Convention Bureau (Poland); Rob Davidson, Senior Lecturer, University of Greenwich (UK); Bettina
Rosenbach, Manager for Education and Further Training, AUMA (Germany); Serguei Trofimov, President, RESTEC Group (Russia, St. Petersburg).
