CDNIS Has To Have The Programs For Disabled Children! If you had a disabled child, would you want them to go to a good school? Of course you would! Ask every parent with a disabled child and they will tell you that they want their child to go to an amazing school. If you search for schools in Hong Kong that accept disabled students, there aren’t many. However, most ESF schools in Hong Kong do accept disabled students, because they have the resources, but CDNIS doesn’t. I find this unbelievable mostly because CDNIS uses the PYP (Primary Years Program) program! Also, these children are children, they can make as many friends as anybody else. CDNIS should be more accepting to disabled students. ESF schools in Hong Kong accept disabled children, they have the programs to accept them. If some schools in Hong Kong can accept them, why can’t CDNIS accept disabled students? If CDNIS wants to continue to be Number 2 in the International Schools Competition, they should do what other schools are doing, maybe even have more resources then any other school. HKIS (Hong Kong International School) is number one, and do they accept disabled children? I don’t think so. Also, many colleges around the United States accept disabled students, there are even special colleges only for disabled young adults. If CDNIS gets the materials for physically disabled students, like a lift to the pool, or, a lift to the library, even that would help. If CDNIS has teachers that can work with mentally, and physically disabled students, that would help even more! What about the fact that CDNIS uses the PYP program, doesn’t it? Well, the PYP program is all about encouraging students to use certain attributes and attitudes. To give the students a better understanding, the school itself might want to demonstrate it, and, I mean, what better way of demonstrating the attitudes & attributes then accepting disabled students? You could easily demonstrate Empathy, Commitment, Respect & Tolerance by accepting them. By showing the Learner Profile, the school can show many different examples. The school can show: Empathy Compassion & Respect, by being Caring and by being Caring the school can show some respect to the disabled children by thinking about how they feel. Also, the school community can be more principled by being fair to the disabled children. Lastly, these children are children, when they get accepted to schools, they can make friendships with students who already are in CDNIS. But hey, don’t they have rights to go to amazing schools? students will be able to make unique friendships and be prepared for the big world. The Lower School will be able not only to also make unique friendships, but also have more experience about different lives and ways of living. Although I think that CDNIS should accept disabled students, I don’t think it will be suitable for younger grades. Maybe if there will be these opportunities (for disabled children) only from around Grade 5, it will be suitable enough. I think that I have shown a few good examples to why CDNIS should accept disabled students, and don’t forget, would you want your child to go to a bad school (if he/she were disabled)?
