Devastation September 11 , 7:00 , I woke up and had a cup of coffee. I was ready for my new job. Wow I can’t believe I got a job at the South Tower. All those fancy chandeliers to the fancy lift. Going to my office on the 57 floor, I watch the lift reaching floor 50 in less than a minute. Amazing, when I reached my floor. I found my office right next to the window facing the Statue of Liberty. I was amazed, I never believed it while decorating my office. 9:00 hit the clock, it was time to start working then something happened, I saw a plane hit the North Tower. I was scared. What happens if another plane hit the South Tower, that’s when one of the office workers said to evacuate. That what we did, “I hope we will survive, this is creepy.” Victor said “ I know, we will make it out safely.” I replied back to him. I watched as we were all running down the staircase, when we reached back down. Security started saying that the South Tower is safe. I didn’t believe them, I thought that this was a terrorist attack, that why I thought it will also hit the South Tower. We went up the staircase. I watched as some people took the lift. Are they insane, I wondered who would want to take the lift when there is a terrorist attack. Once I reached my office, the first thing I did was call my wife. “Hey, I am in the South Tower and a plane crashed into the North Tower.” “What are you talking about?” I watched as the phone slowly powered off. Thats when I saw the another plane heading my way, I knew this will happen, it was too late.
I couldn’t move so I just watched the plane slowly come closer and closer I warned other people and we all ducked under the table and chairs, thats when I heard a big rumble, the South Tower was hit. I knew the security guard was wrong. We started getting out cold towels and placing them on the door. Victor was getting cold towels and started giving them to people. I watched as the air was getting worse. I heard a banging sound on the window. Are you crazy ,I thought. Why are you banging on the glass. If you break it,it will let the smoke in and we are all going to die.I looked up the window. Thats when I saw a suit falling down, “Who in the world would throw their suit of, I looked down , I watched the suit fall down. Thats when I saw a mans head, Who in the world would jump of the World Trade Center. I watched as more people started falling. Then I saw pieces of glass falling down. I thought the people were breaking the glass for fresh air but slipped and fell down. I walked in front of the door and opened it. “Is anyone alive?” No reply. Then I heard a sound calling somewhere to my right. A woman was calling “Help” I knew that there was someone there, I ran over and found her under a rubble. I pulled her out, she was so happy. I watched her cry in joy. She ran over and hugged me and said “Thank you”. I led her into our room, Victor gave her some water and a cold towel. She was so sweating so hard it seems that she came out from a bath. “Hi, I’m Catherine, thanks. If I was there for more than 5 minutes, there is a big chance that I have died. My friend Beth is still out there, I am not sure if she’s still alive.” “I will go out and check, if I see her, I will bring her in.”
I told Victor to get ready the towels and water just in case. I ran out and quickly close the door, letting all the clean air stay in the room. I searched down the hallway, I saw a dead body, I was horrified, the body was crushed by a ceiling tile. I quickly moved the tile away,it wasn’t Beth. I slowly moved forward when I felt something soft on my leg. I quickly moved back, it was a hand. I slowly clear the rubble covering the hand. I checked the name tag, it said “Beth” , I quickly touched her neck to see if she is still alive. She was alive, I quickly called Victor to help me bring her inside the office. When I got back, Catherine was starring at me just like I just killed someone. She quickly leaped right to me and I wanted to hug back but she was hugging Beth. I felt jealous because I saved a friend and then I got nothing back. Afterwards , we heard a big rumble like an earthquake, the ceiling broke down and blocked the way to the staircase, I told my colleagues to clear out the way but some of them refused. They went the other way to the staircase across. I said it would be too dangerous. I watched as Sarah, John and Peter went the other way. When I watched them go out, I quickly asked the other people that are still in the room to push the debris of the wall. Then I heard a scream fro m the other side of the room, Sarah was running back in when I saw Peter on fire, just in front of Peter is John. Behind Peter was a humongous cloud of fire quickly spreading across the hallway. I quickly led Sarah in, she was horrified. I watched as the fire slowly crept closer and closer to John. He was getting close to the door when his foot was caught onto a piece of debris. He shouted “NOOO!!” and I told him to get your feet out of that piece of debris. The fire crept on top of him and he was gone. The fire slowly moved towards the office. I quickly closed the door. I nodded to Sarah.
“He’s gone, We must get out of here, the fire is coming. I don’t want to see more people die.” I quickly ran towards the rubble in front of the door, I told everyone to help me get the it out of the way. I watched as everyone pushed the broken computers and ceiling tiles. I quickly moved it out of the way. Oh My God I can’t believe we just push that tremendous debris out of the way. I quickly opened the door. Hundreds of people were terrified, I watched as they all ran down the staircase, Victor watched as the crowded staircase slowly moved towards the bottom. We then budged walked onto the staircase, it was full of stuff like bags, tissue and phones. Everyone didn’t care about their belongings, they just want to get out safely, I quickly walked down the staircase. When we reached the 41st floor, I heard a scream about 5 floors above, I looked up. The fire was reaching up, that’s when Beth woke up from her unconsciousness. She woke up screaming madly. I watched as she started to asking questions including “ Where am I?” I told her to just focus on running down the staircase. When we reached the 18th floor, the fire stopped and we lost some stress. I watched as floor by floor, I heard screaming, watching the numbers on the wall decreasing. I thought we will get out of here. I saw the number 3 on the wall I knew we are going to get out. When I was reaching the 2nd floor. There was a massive rumble and then the roof broke and crushed us. The South Tower fell down. I knew I would die I watched as it crushed me but I was lucky, we were in between a under a massive piece
of debris. The debris was too big so I can’t fall on the smaller fish. It was like we were in a bowl and being covered by a massive piece of debris. I saw about 11 people. They were all calling names. I called for Victor, Sarah, Catherine and Beth. They didn’t answer, until I heard Beth calling for help under me. I slowly lifted pieces of debris, I saw Beth and Victor both in the brace position, I watched as more and more people were found, I saw a bunch of firemen rescuing 2 ladies. I watched them in horror, when I heard them talking, I remember their voices so I ran forward and started calling Sarah and Catherine. They looked at me and started running to me. I hugged them, they hugged me back. Then the firemen asked everyone to come together and think of a plan. I asked for anyone kinds of tech. that can call the outside world. The fire man took a distress phone and started to call. When the fire men started to call, the debris on top of us is starting to fall, I was starting to think that I am going to die. I quickly told the fireman to help us but he was talking on the phone. The call ended and suddenly. The debris on top lifted higher and higher until we can see light. I watched as more and more firemen came down from the hole above. I can’t believe we survived, I was so happy to be alive and I felt sorry for all my friends in the world trade center. Then, a piece of debris fell on my leg. I was stuck. I asked for help but most of the people have escaped. Only a fireman was there helping me. I called for help but no one answered, I was frightened, scared and worried at the same time. I quickly asked the fireman to help me. He also struggled to get me out. So they called more and more firemen to come when there was about four firemen. I finally got my leg out of the piece of debris.
I came out looking at the demolished World Trade Center. I looked at all the people looking at me. I saw a dead body and told a fireman. The fireman looked at me in disbelief. I looked around. There were many bodies lying in the floor. I looked at the fireman and nodded to him. I can’t believe I survived but I know that next time we I would be ready for a next terrorist attack. What a first day of work. Diary entry September 13 9:57pm
