ACROW LEADERSHIP
“
Acrow is founded upon three guiding principles: one; that we would be the bridge company that owners seek for solutions to both simple and complex bridging problems; two; that we would create supportive and
enduring relationships with our customers that takes each project from the preliminary design through the commissioning of a bridge — and beyond; and, three, that we supply bridges that are engineered and manufactured to the highest quality standards for material and manufacturing workmanship.”
William Killeen President
or more than forty years the Acrow Corporation has been building bridges all over the world, including all 50 states of the United States, all 13 provinces and territories of Canada, and from Australia to Zambia and every place in between. We approach each project as a design challenge to be met with a custom solution. Our experienced engineers assess a customer’s needs and then mix and match the correct components, creating a bridge from modular units that can be shipped quickly and assembled on site. From simple pedestrian bridges, to heavily-trafficked bridges

MODULAR TECHNOLOGY crow Panel Bridges are a contemporary version of the “Bailey Bridges” that were essential during WW II. Bailey Bridges were assembled quickly without machinery, and yet they were designed to carry heavy tanks and other military equipment. Acrow’s Panel Bridge trusses are lighter and stronger than the original Bailey Bridge components, and the unique Acrow orthotropic steel roadway deck panels distribute loads more efficiently across the width of a bridge. The Acrow designs use much higher grades of steel and are stronger. Acrow’s modular technology facilitates fast delivery of components and speed of assembly. By creatively combining modular pieces, we can construct the perfect bridge for your needs, and have it up and open within days to a few weeks.

Call Us When There’s an Emergency The California Department of Transportation (CALTRANS) faced dire circumstances when during a heavy January rain a major mud slide destroyed a portion of State Highway 96 and washed it into the Klamath River. Acrow was immediately contacted by CALTRANS to design and supply a 250 foot (76.2 meter) Acrow Bridge. During the assembly of the Acrow Bridge the weather continued to be uncooperative and washed away more of Highway 96. Acrow, working with CALTRANS made the decision overnight to increase the length of the clear span to 300 feet (91 meters). Acrow mobilized additional bridge parts and had them delivered within a few days so that CALTRANS could reopen Highway 96 very fast.
FROM THE SIMPLE TO COMPLEX
A
simple panel bridge is often the best solution. By doubling-up the panels, the modular units can expand the reach of the bridge and add to its weight carrying capacity — making a perfect fit for your particular project. Acrow has also designed and built lift bridges that raise and lower, much like an elevator or lift in a building, to accommodate ship traffic on a river, and helped our clients build multi-use bridges that accommodate vehicles, trains and pedestrians.

Engineering. With Authority.
Quality Assurance Quality workmanship and materials are vital elements of all Acrow Bridges. Customers are assured of this high quality because Acrow has incorporated quality assurance systems throughout the entire process. First, Acrow's Bridges have been full scale tested in the laboratory at Lehigh University located in Pennsylvania, by the Government of Colombia, and by the US Army for load carrying capability. Second, Acrow's Bridges are manufactured in compliance with some of the highest quality assurance standards available throughout the world. Two manufacturing quality standards that Acrow's Bridges are certified to be compliant with are ISO9001, and AISC for Simple Bridges (American Institute of Steel Construction). Acrow’s Bridges are also compliant to the applicable bridge design codes used around the globe.

After the Acrow Bridge has been completely assembled, our customer service does not stop. We remain available for consultations as far into the future as may be required.
ARMY STRONG
A
crow’s prefabricated modular bridge system is a mainstay in the arsenal of many military organizations around the world. The U.S. Army, the Australian Army, the Canadian Army, and U N Peace Keeping Missions have adopted Acrow Bridges as a Line of Communication Bridge system for logistical support in hostile and disaster rebuilding theatres. Additionally, Acrow Bridge systems have also been procured by a number of other military organizations in Latin America, Africa, and Asia for a diverse list of requirements. The typical Acrow Military Bridge will have the capability to support very heavy armored track vehicles, very heavy trucks and other regular vehicles. The Acrow bridge system is readily portable and quickly erected or disassembled.
Humanitarian Assistance Acrow has exported its prefabricated modular bridges to over 50 countries around the world. In some developing countries there are many segments of the population that do not have access to adequate and safe food and water, medical support services and facilities, schools, and delivery routes for farm and other local products. Restrictions are as simple as a river that cannot be crossed or a topography gap too dangerous to navigate.
City of New Orleans, Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana USA
The transportability of the Acrow Bridge system is a major advantage in regions of the world where access is the primary problem. Governmental agencies have delivered and erected Acrow Bridges into remote locations resulting in the opening of new routes of ingress and egress for significant groups of the population. Accessibility is first and foremost a health maintenance issue and the opening of new routes permits the delivery of medications for the prevention of diseases and allows the local residents the ability to travel to medical facilities. Secondly, new routes of passage can make it possible to deliver safe food and water, provide access to schools, and be a major boost to local commerce, which expands individual prosperity. Developing country political leaders are installing Acrow Bridges because it is recognized how critical reliable infrastructure is to a sustainable economic expansion.
Liberia UN Mission to Liberia constructs one of many Acrow Bridges in Liberia as part of a road development plan to reconnect villages and cities.
Rental Bridges
Many of the states and provinces maintain their own inventory of Acrow Bridges and will use this equipment on selected projects. In addition, states and provinces will direct contractors to procure and use temporary rental bridges during replacement or rehabilitation of an existing bridge project. A temporary rental bridge: • Enhances worker safety on a project site • Keeps traffic flowing so that commerce can expand • Reduces inconveniences to the general public • Results in shorter construction timetables and lower costs • Reduces impact on the environment The number of Transportation agencies adopting the temporary bridge concept in lieu of “lane phasing” for bridge projects has increased significantly over the last ten years. Acrow maintains a very large stock of rental bridge equipment for all sizes of bridges that are one, two and three lanes wide at its primary storage yard in New Jersey and elsewhere. Acrow’s temporary bridge package offering includes quick delivery to most points in North America, engineering drawings in compliance with specifications, technical advisors during erection, and delivery return upon completion of the project.

Throughout the United States and Canada there are a significant number of bridges being replaced or rehabilitated all the time. Government transportation agencies have increasingly recognized the benefits of using temporary bridges to optimize construction issues during the project work schedule.
SUPPORTING AN EXISTING STRUCTURE
A
crow’s prefabricated modular bridge system is often used to support existing structures such as buildings, bridges and deep earthen cuts. A typical Acrow support system would likely be rented and might support an existing concrete bridge that is experiencing some distress. Alternatively, the Acrow support system may be comprised of Acrow Bridge trusses standing on end to make up a tower used to support another structure. Very common uses for an Acrow support system would be supporting a railroad or highway bridge when a deficiency in the existing bridge was discovered. Or, a set of vertical towers used to lift a roof truss into place for a new building. Part of the Acrow support system product range includes the Acrow SuperpropŽ. This very unique product can support upwards of 250 tons on a structure that is only 500 mm in diameter and freestanding with no braces to heights of 12 meters. With appropriate bracing, the height is not limited. Call us and let an Acrow engineer provide a modular support structure solution tailored to the requirements of your project.

PEDESTRIAN BRIDGES
N
othing adds more charm to a private garden or public park than an ornamental pedestrian bridge. Acrow uses modular components in weather-resistant materials, that fit into the natural environment. They are durable and attractive, constructed with decks of weathering steel, wood or concrete.
Rugged pedestrian bridges span rivers and ravines, aiding trade and travel in less-than-hospitable environments, and introducing isolated communities to the world beyond their natural boundaries.
EXPERIENCE AND EXPERTISE
A
crow’s experienced, licensed engineering staff is available for design, on-going supervision and on-site consultations. From the initial meeting through the completion of a project, Acrow is committed to making your bridge-building experience a problem-free operation. Acrow can offer you the benefit of our experience and expertise — in design, engineering, shipping and construction. From start to finish, the Acrow advantage is bridges that work.
The Bridge Builder An old man, going a lone highway, Came, at the evening, cold and gray, To a chasm, vast, and deep, and wide, Through which was flowing a sullen tide. The old man crossed in the twilight dim; The sullen stream had no fears for him; But he turned, when safe on the other side, And built a bridge to span the tide. "Old man," said a fellow pilgrim, near, "You are wasting strength with building here; Your journey will end with the ending day; You never again must pass this way; You have crossed the chasm, deep and wide — Why build you the bridge at the eventide?" The builder lifted his old gray head: "Good friend, in the path I have come," he said, "There followeth after me today A youth, whose feet must pass this way. This chasm, that has been naught to me, To that fair-haired youth may a pitfall be. He, too, must cross in the twilight dim; Good friend, I am building the bridge for him." — Will Allen Dromgoole
