English Courses Our General English courses help you improve your English by focusing on grammatical, lexical and functional concepts in a variety of communicative contexts while utilising all four skills. The courses aim to give you confidence in communicating in an English speaking environment and enable you to deal with situations from the social and educational environment to the workplace. International Academic Year The 36 week Academic Year course consists of 15 hours a week of General English and 6 hours a week of Academic English. The course is designed for those who wish to study in the UK. The academic part of the course focuses on skills such as writing reports, giving presentations, listening to lectures and taking notes, attending meetings, and adopts a similar communicative, task-based approach to the General English course but with a focus on the type of English expected in colleges, universities and the international workplace.

Internships LILA* is pleased to be able to offer Internship programmes designed to meet the needs of students of all ages and backgrounds. We are working with a wide-range of companies in all sectors and professions to provide stimulating and challenging positions. Students on LILA* internship programmes will improve existing English language skills in a professional environment. Internships also enhance employment opportunities within an increasingly competitive employment market and increase awareness of international business and practical work experience. LILA* internships involve 4 weeks General English Plus at LILA* followed by a 3-9 month unpaid internship.

Cambridge Examinations At LILA* you can prepare for and sit the Cambridge First Certificate (FCE) and Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) exams. Students who are preparing for one of the Cambridge exams will follow a syllabus designed to maximise their classroom time. Mock exams are held periodically throughout the course and helps students focus on exam technique. Cambridge preparation courses and exams are not ‘closed’, which means that students can join the course at a later date if they are not able to attend for the full period. Accommodation During July and August students stay in university residential accommodation which offers high specification en-suite accommodation with on-site refectory. The rest of the year students stay in city centre Premium Accommodation and are cared and catered for by a full-time, live-in ‘mother’.

Culture Liverpool has more theatres, museums and galleries than any other city outside of London. Visit the Walker Art Gallery, the National Gallery of the North, The Museum Of Liverpool and the Tate Liverpool situated at the Albert Dock. Liverpool is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city achieved the status in 2004 because of its impressive waterfront and rich maritime history. Music Liverpool has a rich musical heritage and is officially the World Capital of Pop. This began with The Beatles, and many local attractions commemorate the story of the most successful band of all time. ‘The Beatles Story’ is a brilliant tour through the Beatles lives. Liverpool is host to many music festivals staged in the city throughout the year, as well as offering classical music at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall courtesy of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. The Liverpool Echo Arena is an awardwinning building located alongside the Grade I listed Albert Dock complex and World Heritage Site. Location LILA* is located in the heart of the city of Liverpool, close to many major transport links. FLIGHTS & TRANSFERS Liverpool John Lennon Airport is around eight miles from the city centre and offers flights from various parts of Europe. A low-cost bus service from the airport to the city centre is operated by Merseytravel. New worldwide flights from Liverpool John Lennon Airport are available with KLM. KLM now connects Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LPL) 650 destinations around the globe via Amsterdam’s Schipol Airport. Manchester Airport, is around 45 minutes from Liverpool. If you would like a stress free journey you can book a transfer with us at an additional cost. We have a great transfer team who collect you from the airport or train station and take you to your accommodation. They will make you feel comfortable and safe!
