Moving into Wisconsin’s outdoor growing season, homeowners may turn thoughts to the cultivation of beautiful gardens and planters on decks or patios. Annuals and perennials brighten yards and porches, with different colors, leaf shapes, and growing preferences allowing for a wide variety of combinations in most outdoor spaces.
Ebert’s Greenhouse Village, located at W1795 Fox Road in Ixonia, Wisconsin, is noted for their flourishing selection of flowers and plants, and has been voted “Best Green Thumb Paradise” by Milwaukee Magazine. Ebert’s officially opens for the new season on April 17 this year. Anne Adams, Marketing/Customer Service Specialist at Ebert’s, described the special qualities that Ebert’s Greenhouse Village offers customers. “The unique and rustic shopping environment nestled in the Ixonia countryside make it a ‘destination’ garden center. Our friendly and very knowledgeable staff share our guests’ passion for gardening. We have the most extensive selection of annuals, hanging baskets, combo containers, herbs and vegetables, perennials and nursery stock in Southeastern Wisconsin,” Adams explained.
Adams shared some of her customers’ favorite flowering plants. Top-sellers include geraniums, with their wide variety of colors and propensity for working nicely in hanging baskets; Gerbera daisies (Adams noted that they have “beautiful and cheery blooms that make you happy”); and Petunias, as they are both easy to grow and also well-suited to hanging plantings and containers of combined flowers.
Among perennials, Ebert’s customers tend to return to Hostas as a favorite. “Hostas are a garden staple that never goes out of style,” Adams explained. “These foliage plants ‘anchor’ garden beds and offer a wide variety of color and leaf presentations all through the growing season.” Other favorites in Wisconsin gardens include daylilies, coneflowers, and lavender. “Lavender is very fragrant, and the varied sizes and colors of the blooms on coneflowers and daylilies offer a multitude of design choices,” Adams explained.
Non-flowering plants are also popular among Ebert’s Greenhouse Village customers. “Our guests enjoy the varied textures, leaf shapes and sizes, and wide array of color choices that the foliage plant ‘Coleus’ offers. They continue to grow in popularity, and thus we have expanded our selection for 2020,” Adams said.
As thoughts turn to outdoor gardens, customers consider beautifying all aspects of their outdoor home and business growing spaces. Lammscapes! and Lamm Gardens (the retail and garden center sector) are located at 2708 Sherman Road in Jackson, Wisconsin. Lammscapes! provides homeowners and businesses with landscape design, landscape construction and installation, and year-round management of landscapes, including snow clearing. They are happy to help with spring cleanup and preparation for planting, and also help create hardscapes, working with patios, decks, pergolas, and fire pits. The team at Lammscapes! works with both new construction and renovation, and also works to design seasonal planters and displays, making them a vital link to garden enjoyment throughout the year.
They also provide seasonal, holiday, and wedding decorations, in addition to hosting weddings and children’s parties. A fun and well-planned series of workshops, many planting-based and held outdoors onsite at Lamm Gardens includes a variety of topics such as a nature- or garden-themed “Art in the Garden” series, “Planter Workshops,” and events themed to celebrate Mother’s and Father’s Day, for example.
